Online:Crafting

In Elder Scrolls Online, there are seven crafting professions. Skill points are needed to fully develop crafting skills, but you are not limited to a single profession, and can choose to dabble in all of them, or specialize in a few professions. To craft, a crafting station of appropriate kind must be found.

Crafting materials can be gathered from the world, such as plants or ore, or looted from enemies. The primary use is to create items, however several crafting skills allow extracting of materials from items or researching traits they possess, which destroys those items. Some even let you improve existing items.

Professions[edit]

The table below shows the amount of skill points required in order to max out each profession skill line.

Crafting Stations[edit]

Crafting Stations are places at which you can partake in the crafting professions. Each type of crafting station is most commonly found at a particular type of store: alchemy stations are found at apothecaries, blacksmithing stations are found at smithies, clothing stations are found at smithies and clothiers, enchanting stations are found at chironasia, and woodworking stations are found at carpentries and some smithies. Cooking fires for provisioning are most commonly found in inns and camps. Jewelry crafting writs are inconsistently placed, but can usually be found in major cities. Besides that, special Crafting Sites are always equipped with blacksmithing, clothing, jewelry, and woodworking stations for crafting items in specific Sets.

Refinement[edit]

After being harvested from resource nodes, raw materials for four different crafting professions (blacksmithing, clothing, jewelry crafting, and woodworking) may be refined, 10 at a time, into 7-10 refined craftable items, averaging an 85% recovery rate. For instance, if a player were to refine 10,000 raw blacksmithing ores, they could expect to get an average of 8,500 refined items. In addition to craftable items, refining raw materials will also yield trait items and upgrading items, which can improve the quality crafted items (such as armor, weapons, or jewelry). At the maximum skill level of the "extraction" skill for each profession, the likelihood is as follows (the same between all professions):

Temper/Tannin/Plating/Resin quality % chance per raw material
Extraction 0 Extraction 1 Extraction 2 Extraction 3 Ext 3 +
Meticulous Disassembly
Fine 1.00%(?) 1.15%(?) 1.31%(?) 1.50% 1.69%
Superior 0% 0.96%(?) 1.09%(?) 1.25% 1.41%
Epic 0% 0% 0.66%(?) 0.75% 0.84%
Legendary 0% 0% 0% 0.50% 0.56%

Each increased level of the relevant extraction skill (Metal Extraction, Unraveling, Jewelry Extraction, and Wood Extraction) as well as the Champion Craft perk Meticulous Disassembly seem to increase the chance of getting improvement materials by 12.5% past the previous skill/perk level. These appear interchangeable; for instance, if a player had Extraction 2 and Meticulous Disassembly, it would be equivalent to having Extraction 3.

Note that this is not the chance of getting a single upgrading material or the chance of getting any number of upgrading materials, but an averaged drop rate over a long period of time. For instance, if a player with fully leveled Extraction skills, but without Meticulous Disassembly, were to refine 10,000 raw blacksmithing ores, they could expect to get an average of 150 Honing Stone, 125 Dwarven Oil, 75 Grain Solvent, and 50 Tempering Alloy.

Certification[edit]

Seven skills in ESO are eligible for Certification. When you reach level six a new notice will appear on the noticeboards in all major cities. The notice states that master crafters are willing to share their knowledge on crafting for free, which will allow you to complete writs. There are two master crafters, Millenith and Danel Telleno, who can certify you in three professions each.

With the Summerset chapter, the seventh skill - Jewelry Crafting - was added. It can only be learned from Felarian and his associated quest in Alinor, which requires the chapter to visit.

Inspiration[edit]

All seven crafting professions use ON-icon-Inspiration.png Inspiration for leveling purposes. Each profession uses the same amount of inspiration for all ranks as shown in the below table. Higher crafting ranks allow you to create higher level products and unlock more passive abilities in each profession. Inspiration is gained from performing crafting activities, such as creation, improvement, extraction, and refinement, as well as by completing writs. You gain more inspiration by crafting or deconstructing higher quality products. You can increase the amount of inspiration you earn in a few ways. 45 Champion Points can be allocated in the Craft skill tree towards the Inspiration Boost passive perk, increasing gains by 30%. Playing as an Orc also grants you a natural 10% boost to inspiration via their innate Craftsman skill.

Bugs[edit]

  • While crafting, the server can sometimes time out because it sees you as not moving. Initially, this may take a while, but the times can become quite short after repeated logins. ?
    • Regularly exit the crafting station and move around, then resume your crafting.
