Locations

Storm Call is a shout that summons a storm of thunder and lightning. The lightning hits targets randomly and may hit friendly NPCs, who may be killed by the strikes, but will not hit you. The more words of the shout used, the longer the storm and the more powerful the lightning bolts. The third word also increases the area of effect. This shout only works outside, but does work in Blackreach.

Notes[edit]

  • This Shout has the longest cooldown period.
  • This, along with the Throw Voice shout, are the only shouts to have every word wall dungeon guarded by a dragon priest. making them the most challenging to learn. However, the Forelhost word can be acquired without actually fighting the priest, by climbing and careful jumping on the battlements to reach the word wall. The Whirlwind Sprint may also assist to attain the word for this shout.
  • In terms of raw damage potential, this is the most powerful Shout. With all three words, it deals 17.8 shock damage per second on average to each target in range.
  • The word wall for the first word, Strun, was first displayed at Bethesda's booth at E3 2011.
  • This is the only shout in the game where one of the word walls is located in a place you can only visit once and never return to; if you do not obtain the word on your first trip through the temple, you can never get it again without console commands.
  • This shout is ineffective against circling dragons as they are out of the area of effect when not engaging you.
  • This shout works in outdoor areas of Apocrypha.
  • This shout works exceptionally well during the Civil War battles, in forts.
  • The shout is more or less applied to you like an effect, like a cloak or armor spell. This can easily be seen in the Active Effects submenu, which will show what word (or group of words) that you've shouted (i.e., "Storm Call - Strun") and a short description of its effects and how long the storm will last, in remaining seconds. In addition to (or perhaps because of) this particular effect, wherever you go, the shout's effect follows you, as well, meaning that the storm will not be in one, stationary place but rather move along with you if you don't stay in one place.
  • Although enemies and friends are both hit by the lightning bolts, no actual bolts of lightning are seen coming out of the sky and hitting them. Instead, they are hit with the effect usually seen when a projectile Shock spell (Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning, Thunderbolt) hits them: a ball of shock where the projectile hits and the electrical crackling effect. However, random, actual lightning bolts might strike the ground, though not any viable target. Lightning also flashes in the sky and thunder can be heard afterwards.
  • The rain that comes down from the sky is far harder than the ambient weather rain that happens in the more temperate climates of Skyrim. In addition, it slowly stops after the effect wears off, rather than stopping suddenly. The weather also may remain cloudy after the storm ceases. If there had been a blizzard or even just some snowflakes falling before the shout was used, they will resume as soon as Storm Call's effects end.
  • The shout has a rather large stagger radius (about the size of the storm effect field) when you use the shout, staggering all viable targets with heavy stagger (about as much as a two-word Unrelenting Force shout). If you're surrounded and out in the open, use of even one word will give you time to get away.
