Reproposing these Easter Eggs[edit]

I am re-proposing these easter eggs since I feel the page didn't get enough attention since it got so massively bloated with content, and they got significant support. See Archive 3 to see what I am talking about. Comments are to see what people previously said.

Titanic

Justin, Scott, and Speigel

- Zebendal (talk) 10:55, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

I don't think there's any need to repropose these, looks like there was sufficient support to add them to the page at the time. —Legoless (talk) 11:07, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

Goldilocks and the Three Bears[edit]

The Goldenback Spider Lackey's default name, "Goldielegs" is a reference to Goldilocks from Goldilocks and the Three Bears. -Dcsg (talk) 19:33, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

100%, there's nothing else it could be referencing. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 23:36, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
The default name of the Goldenback Spider Lackey, Goldielegs, is an overt reference to Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Don't know if we want to include that here, but the etymology seems pretty cut and dry to me. -MolagBallet (talk) 01:17, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
It's a reference. - Analeah Oaksong (talk) 03:26, 10 March 2024 (UTC)

Dark Souls[edit]

In the Forgotten Cells area right where the player starts off in the Isle of Balfiera tutorial, before going through the door with Norianwe after you choose your weapon, to the right within a cell, you can find a knight's spirit around a bonfire with an Ancestral High Elf Style sword in it. This is an obvious reference to Dark Soul's bonfire mechanic, and a quick google search will show this in images. Additionally, the Nighthollow Style worn by the ghostly knight resembles armor from the Dark Souls series.

This is just in PTS right now, but I propose that if this goes live when the chapter launches next month, this should qualify in the easter eggs page.

Zebendal (talk) 22:13, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

No doubt a reference, should be fine to add to the page if its still around in the live server. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 23:03, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
Pretty obvious reference, support adding this. Imperialbattlespire (talk) 06:31, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
Definitely a reference, ye. Jacksol (talk) 02:47, 6 May 2021 (UTC)

Cut Content[edit]

The Cut Content entry directly references a previous Elder Scrolls game. Given that Easter Eggs are supposed to be things outside other Elder Scrolls games, shouldn't this entry be removed? The Blackcaster Mages are already mentioned on the Historical References page. — Wolfborn(Howl) 02:34, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

Agreed. I have no qualms with this entry being removed. -MolagBallet (talk) 02:50, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
Done. — Wolfborn(Howl) 03:02, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
...and I just saw that Zeb deleted the same thing earlier and I reverted it, thinking I was removing it when instead I just edited it back in. Which wasn't what I meant to do. <facepalm> Imma stop editing now... — Wolfborn(Howl) 03:08, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

The Incredible Hulk[edit]

In ESO Live: 6/24 Update 11 Preview Special #1 it is mentioned that animations, attacks, dialogue etc. of Xal-Nur the Slaver is based of Hulk from Marvel Comics. They speak very similarly ie "Smash the rats! Smash!" to "Hulk smash!" and "Xal-Nur crush puny wamasu!" to "Puny god!" etc, and they even mention getting Fred Tatasciore to voice him, as he often voices Hulk in Marvel cartoons. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 00:06, 6 June 2021 (UTC)

If this was stated by the devs, this does not require discussion as it is already confirmed.Zebendal (talk) 01:30, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
I went ahead and added it. Zebendal (talk) 23:46, 17 June 2021 (UTC)

Easter Egg Removal: Sabrina the Teenage Witch[edit]

I propose the removal of this easter egg from the list. according to in the esolog entry, the Black Cat's default name is "Mimi", not "Salem". The cat hasn't been called Salem since at least 2018, as is evident by this revision to the pet's furnishing image, wherein Lurlock adds "Mimi" to the nickname field in the furnishing summary template. This edit to Online:Pets suggests the name "Salem" was datamined in 2016, but never made it to the live release.

Since the easter egg was never present in-game, we should remove it. -MolagBallet (talk) 22:54, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

This is incorrect. The Black Cat pet was available to Japanese players at release on June 23, 2016. It was later made available via the Crown Store in February 2017. When the Salem name was datamined, the pet was already in-game. I will update the Easter egg to note that the default name has since been removed, but the fact that it was ever in-game should be grounds enough to keep it on the page. —Legoless (talk) 09:20, 24 September 2021 (UTC)

TamrielTogether[edit]

I have added the Tamriel Together contest winners since their books are already ingame. This doesn't need a talk page, due to it being written and official. Zebendal (talk) 15:09, 17 June 2021 (UTC)

Belle[edit]

Belle and the default name for the Great Daenian Hound are references to Rich Lambert's dog Belle which passed away. Citation https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1117524434 2:39:40.Zebendal (talk) 18:57, 14 August 2021 (UTC)

This is confirmed, so I've added it to the page. —Legoless (talk) 10:02, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

Agra Crun is a Easter egg reference to the Jedi Order.[edit]

Agra Crun are an interesting group of people, introduced in the Orsinium Dlc. But there is evidence to suggest there could be a direct easter egg to the Jedi Order and the path they follow along with a reference to Yoda's famous line that is unmistakable. "The Blood Shields? To most, we are shadows. But for a precious few, we are a beacon of light. Light gets brought up quite a bit in Azraths dialogue. "Go to the residential district and find the house where the light of Malacath shrines. Follow the light. It will guide you to Kroma. Give the scroll that contains the sacred words to her and only to her. In Star Wars Light is the path of the force that is the good side of the force. This is the reference that backs up this being an Easter egg towards the Jedi and Yoda. "One does not become Agra Crun. One is or is not. I was raised by the faith, trained since birth to complete the tasks Malacath wishes of me. One does not become Agra Crun, One is or is Not, is a reference to Do or do not, there is no try. As well as being raised from birth or a young age, is a reference to how the Jedi take people that young to train them.

Now go, and may Malacath protect you." May Malacath Protect you, I think is very similar to the catch praise in Star Wars. May the Force be with you. So there is underlining Star Wars tones with his dialogue.TheVampKnight (talk) 01:20, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

All of these are "references" to monastic orders, which both the Jedi and the Agra Crun are based off of. There is no Easter Egg here. -Dcsg (talk) 01:27, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
I don't see any obvious connection. —Legoless (talk) 09:56, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
The "One is or is not" phrase is very similar to "Do or do not, there is no try" and the light is similar to the Force but everything else seems like a reach. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 23:36, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
I don't really see an obvious connection either.Analeah Oaksong (talk) 03:32, 10 March 2024 (UTC)

Vitruvian Man[edit]

The icon for Character Creation depicts the Vitruvian Man. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 04:39, 23 March 2022 (UTC)

True. Seems clear-cut, I'll add it to the page. —Legoless (talk) 09:34, 23 March 2022 (UTC)

I Should Buy a Boat Cat[edit]

The khajiit Sea-Dreamer depicts the I Should Buy a Boat Cat, as evident by him reading and his talk about buying a boat. This should be added.Zebendal (talk) 00:15, 27 May 2022 (UTC)

Agreed. I have added it. —Legoless (talk) 15:57, 27 May 2022 (UTC)

The Little Mermaid[edit]

ON-misc-The Little Mermaid.jpg

The Little Mermaid is referenced in the isle of Galen, northeast on a rock by Llashana's docks. — Unsigned comment by Zebendal (talkcontribs) at 14:13 on 12 December 2022‎

The pose is convincing enough but the two clamshells from the bra are a dead giveaway, certainly a reference. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 17:54, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
Added. —Legoless (talk) 20:35, 12 December 2022 (UTC)

Iron Man[edit]

The Dwemervamidium Mirage bears a heavy resemblance to Iron Man's suit, having a glowing center where the Arc Reactor would be. While this isn't enough to warrant a reference alone, the icon for this memento is literally "memento_iron man x form_01", referencing the Mark X suit he wears in Iron Man 3, confirming the reference. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 07:04, 30 January 2023 (UTC)

Seems very clear, should be added. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 07:28, 30 January 2023 (UTC)

Neither a borrower nor a lender be[edit]

Th famous famous quote "Neither a borrower nor a lender be" is from Hamlet. It is prominently used by a banker in Daggerfall, and has gained a bit of an infamous reputation in the community. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 18:06, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Support. —Legoless (talk) 18:10, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Oh yea totally a reference The Rim of the Sky (talk) 22:49, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Plagiarism Reference[edit]

The character Relan Daevath is named after artist Relan Daevath, who was the author of the original texture of Mercymother's Body Art, which was directly lifted from fanart drawn by them that was published in July 2020.Relan Daevath on Twitter (April 9, 2023) Following this revelation, the official Twitter posted a statement saying it was never their intention to include any community fan art without proper credit, and that they are in contact with the artist and will work with them to make sure that there is a proper resolution. The Elder Scrolls Online on Twitter (April 10, 2023) Zebendal (talk) 23:08, 12 June 2023 (UTC)

This should be added. —Legoless (talk) 17:53, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
Agreed. -MolagBallet (talk) 17:32, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
A confirmed reference, we could word it differently once we add it. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 23:22, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

Spider-Man 2[edit]

The description of the Oakensoul Ring reads "The might of the druids, in the palm of your hand.", a reference to Doctor Octopus' famous quote "The power of the sun, in the palm of my hand." from Spider-Man 2. This quote also pops up again a number of time in No Way Home. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 18:04, 21 July 2022 (UTC)

Wikiquote suggests there are numerous quotes that use the phrase "in the palm of your hand" or "in the palm of my hand". I would need to see more evidence in favor of it before supporting this. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 18:20, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
I considered that but what solidifies this a reference for me is the first part of "might of the druids", both follow "The ____ of the ____, in the palm of my hand", which none of the wikiquote examples you linked do. Without that first part I wouldn't have suggested it otherwise. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 18:24, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
There is "the quantity of an hazel-nut, in the palm of my hand", which while it doesn't match the exact pattern, is fairly close. I will say this is a fairly popular version of this idiom, but I think the overall commonality of different variations overcomes this without some other connection. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 18:32, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
The fact that "of an" is the closest you could find to "of the" (which only led to the aforementioned Spider-Man film wikiquotes from what I saw) further supports my point. Barring that, "might" is literally a synonym of power, in fact two definitions of might are "superior power or strength; force:" and "power or ability to do or accomplish; capacity:" so they are effectively interchangeable ("power of the druids" or "might of the sun"). The Rim of the Sky (talk) 18:53, 21 July 2022 (UTC)

Skill issue[edit]

Sharp-as-Night uses this phrase occasionally after defeating an enemy. "Skill issue" is gaming slang that implies a player's failure is due to a lack of skill at the game (sometimes used ironically). —Legoless (talk) 18:29, 8 August 2023 (UTC)

I think this one's a pretty cut and dry reference. -MolagBallet (talk) 17:32, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
I agree with this.Zebendal (talk) 04:24, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
Agreed, its very on the nose The Rim of the Sky (talk) 23:22, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

Henrietta Pussycat[edit]

The default name of the Chaotic Creatia Cub, "Helrietta Pussycat" seems to be a reference to Henrietta Pussycat from Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood. -MolagBallet (talk) 17:32, 20 October 2023 (UTC)

Is that why I know so many cats called Henrietta?? Looks like an obvious one. —Legoless (talk) 17:48, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
Sounds like it to me, I agree with this being added.Zebendal (talk) 04:24, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
Agreed, super obvious reference The Rim of the Sky (talk) 23:22, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

Consistency[edit]

There are currently three references to the plays of William Shakespeare included on the page. The first two reference the play Hamlet and are found under the heading Hamlet. The third references the play The Merchant of Venice and is found under the heading William Shakespeare. For consistency, I believe either:

  1. The heading of the third reference should be changed from "William Shakespeare" to "The Merchant of Venice", or
  2. All three references should be grouped together under the heading "William Shakespeare".

Is there a standard for this? Do people have strong opinions either way? Personally, I would go with option 2, but I'm fine with option 1 if that's the standard/community consensus. Thoughts? Comments? Concerns? — Wolfborn(Howl) 20:05, 20 October 2023 (UTC)

There's not really a standard, but I feel like all three could be grouped together under "William Shakespeare". Jeancey (talk) 20:31, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
Done. —Legoless (talk) 00:34, 21 October 2023 (UTC)

Hungry Hungry Hippos[edit]

ON-misc-Hungry Hungry Hippos.jpg

The Glyptodon group under Khenarthi's Arch in Southern Elsweyr are oriented in a way that resembles the hungry hungry hippos game.Zebendal (talk) 06:02, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

Yep, I believe this is accurate. A ton of people I showed it to without any prompting made the exact same observation that it was hungry hungry hippos. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 00:13, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
100% a reference. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 23:22, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
Absolutely a reference indeed.Tarponpet (talk) 4:37 PM, February 29th, 2024 (EST)

Alcibiades/Al-Cybiades[edit]

Azandar Al-Cybiades shares his name with a famous Greek statesman (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcibiades) who also appears in several writings by Plato (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Alcibiades). Not sure if this counts as an easter egg or not since the two seem to share little in common except their ambitious nature. 73.133.44.231 18:35, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

Agreed. They referenced Cybiades for the first time in years just to make it work. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 23:22, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
Also notable that al-Cybiades is actually a moniker. Azandar's real name is al-Kozanset, which he has to awkwardly explain away when you return to his hometown with him. Why would the writers bother pretending he is from an obscure island province when this has to be contradicted as part of the story? Seems like deliberate wordplay. —Legoless (talk) 13:29, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
After hearing Legoless' argument, I agree with it being included.Analeah Oaksong (talk) 16:07, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
