Oblivion:Count
A Count or Countess is a ruler of one of the eight counties of Cyrodiil, and reside in the castles of their respective cities. The nobility of Cyrodiil have limited authority, since most power lies in the Imperial City in the hands of High Chancellor Ocato and the Elder Council. All of the rulers have their own staff, including bodyguards, stewards and many servants. Some also have a castle mage in their service, while a captain of the guard commands the city watch and castle guard.
The game begins with seven ruling counts and countesses, with Ormellius Goldwine having perished in the Daedra attack on Kvatch. Most rulers provide quests, and will offer to sell a house within their city provided their disposition is high enough. The counts and countesses are also involved in the main quest Allies for Bruma, during which they will send aid to Bruma once the Oblivion Gate in their county has been closed. Each of the rulers can also be asked for their own varying opinions about the ongoing Oblivion Crisis, and Ocato's stewardship of Tamriel following the death of Emperor Uriel Septim VII and his heirs.
In the absence of the hereditary count it appears that their spouse inherits the title in their own right, as seen with Millona Umbranox of Anvil, and Arriana Valga of Chorrol. Two of the counts have known heirs who reside with them; Gellius Terentius is the son of the Count of Bravil, while Farwil Indarys is the son of the Count of Cheydinhal. Additionally, the recently wedded Alessia Caro of Leyawiin is the daughter of the Countess of Chorrol.

Notes[edit]
- All the counts and countesses are marked as Essential, with the exception of Regulus Terentius, and Ormellius Goldwine who is already deceased.
- Janus Hassildor is the only ruler to lack the prefix of "Count" in his displayed in-game name.
- Skingrad lacks a court mage, possibly due to the count's own noted abilities as a "master sorcerer", as well as his status as a vampire.
- Janus Hassildor and Millona Umbranox are the only rulers to have the correct rank of "Count/Countess" in the Nobility faction. All others only hold the rank of "Knight".
