Your versus you're[edit]

I check all my pages through Microsoft word although I caught that myself, feel free to check it with word yourself but because it is your hand to hand and not their hand to hand it is a possessive word.

English wasn't my strongest point in school but I was very good using programs if you still feel like its wrong that fine, but I have never known word to lie to me before. Maybe I write them and tell them about, that is if you can prove me wrong. — Unsigned comment by Militarysmoker (talkcontribs) on 1 June 2009

Microsoft Word checks for spelling and grammar mechanics. It does not check for contextual agreements. Although your're is a word, it is not the correct form. --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 02:54, 1 June 2009 (EDT)
I don't think "your're" is going to be the correct form of anything. :p "You're" is a contraction of "you are" (and on a wiki article page, we shouldn't use contractions at all, it's a question of style -- discussion pages are another matter since they're discussion). "Your" is the possessive form of "you".
--Gez 10:57, 1 June 2009 (EDT)
He was describing the possessive your, but used you're instead. That is why I said it was wrong. --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 15:46, 1 June 2009 (EDT)

Camonna Tong Thug Page[edit]

sorry. i tried to search the comonna tong thug on here but i didn't see it. so i thought of making my own. i don't care about it. you can delete it.— Unsigned comment by Juicman117 (talkcontribs)

Not a problem! I took care of it. –Eshetalk 21:21, 9 June 2009 (EDT)
Thanks Eshe! --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 21:22, 9 June 2009 (EDT)

Edits[edit]

"there is a sic tag, stop editing it out) " You act like I've done this multiple times >_>....... — Unsigned comment by Underboss (talkcontribs) on 10 June 2009

You did it twice in a row, even after I undid it. Don't get offended, just research the templates before you take it out. --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 22:48, 10 June 2009 (EDT)

Adding internal links[edit]

i'm just starting editing, and im trying to add a link to another page in an article im editing. when i try to add the link, it doesn't appear. am i not supposed to use the internal link button?

also, i feel im pretty good at finding easter eggs in oblivion, but i can't edit the page because it's semi-protected. what do i have to do to be allowed to edit those semi-protected pages?

NJDThanatos Oblivion isn't fun until you have at least 200 acrobatics! 00:22, 11 June 2009 (EDT)

Whenever you want to add a link to another page within the site, you use [[Oblivion:Oblivion|Oblivion]]. The first Oblivion is the NAMESPACE. These are the titles within the URLs that keep things clean. Namespaces include Oblivion, Morowind, Daggerfall, UESPWiki, User_talk (such as this page), and others. The second Oblivion is the title of the page. This one's is Mr. Oblivion. The one of Easter Eggs would be just that, Easter Eggs. The final one is what you want to appear as the link. This can be practically anything. So I wanted to make a link to my user page, I would use this: [[User:Mr. Oblivion|My User Page]] which results in My User Page. Does that help? And semi-protected pages can only be edited by registered users. :) --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 00:30, 11 June 2009 (EDT)
Is there any way for me to become a registered user? I spend almost all my time in Oblivion glitching and looking for easter eggs, so i think i could really contribute.— Unsigned comment by NJDThanatos (talkcontribs)
Actually, since you have a username, you're already registered. Semi-protected pages can only be edited by established registered users, so after a while you'll be able to edit those pages as long as you're signed into your account. –Eshetalk 00:45, 11 June 2009 (EDT)
Thanks for the clarification Eshe, I knew something was a little off. ^_^ --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 00:47, 11 June 2009 (EDT)

A bit overdue, but hasn't lost its flavour![edit]

Thanks for all the work you have been doing, especially the motherlode of patrolling Recent Changes. Well done for trying to decifer 'Template code'; it took me a while too! I'm suprised it took me so long to notice, oh well, better late then never! --SerCenKing Talk 14:21, 12 June 2009 (EDT)
Thanks! I think I got the template thing down now! :) --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 14:28, 12 June 2009 (EDT)

Editing an existing Place[edit]

Hey thanks for the heads up on the edit.

Present Subjunctive[edit]

I just noticed the mini-debate on the present subjunctive on the Torbern talk page. Since this is utterly irrelevant to Torbern, I thought I'd bring it here instead.

While you are techically correct that the phrasing of that sentence is valid and is indeed the present subjunctive, you also have to factor in the common usage issue. Most speakers of modern English would probably find that usage...ugly <g>...and think it's incorrect, even as they turn around and use phrases like "It is imperative that he be killed by the mountain lion." without batting an eye. In a grammar article on Wikipedia, it would probably work fine. Here, you're likely to get a lot of people who speak "common" English who will want to edit that sentence only to have it reverted (or worse, not reverted, with an incorrect construct in place instead). For the simple reason of not encountering that issue on a million & one articles, I would say that it's probably best to use phrasing like:

  • It is possible that he will have been killed by the mountain lion.
  • It is possible that the mountain lion will have killed him.
  • He may (possibly) have been killed by the mountain lion. (Possibly being redundant in this case, but still common.)
  • He's dead, Jim!

...all of which, especially that last one <g>, are more common in modern English. --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 00:24, 14 June 2009 (EDT)

However, the problem is that I use this form when speaking. So which should supersede? What's right and less common, or what's semi-wrong and more common? I guess I can leave that to other people. But I still think it is the best option for said sentence. But then again, I usually speak formal English 24/7. --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 00:29, 14 June 2009 (EDT)
Depends if you're in a democracy or not. If you are, majority wins...even when they use invalid grammatical constructs or invent words like "flammable" or "irregardless". :) --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 04:31, 14 June 2009 (EDT)

Noinclude Tags[edit]

Thanks for the Noinclude tags on the two prodded templates. I don't modify templates much and wasn't thinking of that. --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 15:03, 14 June 2009 (EDT)

No problem! :) --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 15:03, 14 June 2009 (EDT)

Editing an existing Place 2[edit]

I noticed that my edit on Vivic St' Olm's entry had been deleted. The reason for this was "generic magic weapon". I have seen this particular "edit" of mine at least twice now. I have asked Eshe about this and this was her reply:

It would probably make more sense to add that kind of information to the NPC's article instead of the location page. We're actually working on a project for the Oblivion NPCs right now that includes inventories for every character, so I don't see any problem with including similar information for Morrowind NPCs. Morrowind has so many NPCs that the non-relevant ones do not have their own page, but as long as you stick to adding useful information to existing articles, I think you're fine! And don't worry about asking permission to edit articles. There's no need unless you're proposing a major project or rewrite. There are several other users (Patrollers, for example) who watch the Recent Changes page and monitor any edits that are made to the site. I hope that answers your question! Let me know if you need anything else. –Eshetalk 18:49, 12 June 2009 (EDT)

Since the NPC in Question doesn't have their own page I thought it would be nice to add this to the notes section. It does appear (for reference) on the Ashinabi page under the Gadasu Serothan entry. Also, as you can see I am new to the whole wiki thing so the above quote is in the wrong format; I believe. Hahaha very wrong. — Unsigned comment by Junebug1138 (talkcontribs) on 16 June 2009

It is generic magic apparel. There is no reason to add it to the page. If you look here, you will see that it holds no importance. It is a random item on the character, and even if it is not, it is generic and doesn't warrant a note on the page. --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 19:07, 16 June 2009 (EDT)
Thank you for answering part of the question. Now, should I edit out the Glass Jinkblade for Ashinabi and others I come across for a more clear wiki entry? Or just not include them as a link? Is the Glass Jinkblade random as well? If it is, shouldn't it be annotated or removed all together? This is very important to me as I wish to get this correct for future reference. It would seem to me that you and Eshe are at a disagreement and I really would like to clear this up before continuing. I am playing the Xbox version so it may make some difference.-- Junebug1138 19:44, 16 June 2009 (EDT)
It seems the Glass Jinkblade is also pretty generic and should be removed. I'm not sure why it was added in the first place. If there's a really interesting or unique item carried by a particular NPC, it may be worth mentioning on the location page if the NPC carrying it for some reason does not have its own page. Thanks for pointing it out! –Eshetalk 20:11, 16 June 2009 (EDT)
Indeed. That should be removed as well. I only think unique items should be listed on the page, and only then should it be added if the NPC does not have its own page. --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 03:53, 17 June 2009 (EDT)
Glass Jinkblades are not unique, but they are pretty rare and pretty valuable and I'd guess that is why it was added. It might also be because its effect (Paralyze for 10s) is a particularly dangerous one that's worth knowing about before going up against the NPC. –RpehTCE 03:59, 17 June 2009 (EDT)
Hmmmm, I guess we could count that as a threat category, where, obviously, an item is a high threat to the character. I assume that would be logical. However, the Viperscythe that was added didn't fit any relevant reason to keep it. I wouldn't be opposed to keeping the Glass Jinkblade on the Ashinabi list, or any other case that somehow fits this mold. --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 04:08, 17 June 2009 (EDT)
I really didn't want to create a firestorm here. Although I agree that the Glass Jinkblade is more expensive and of a higher threat; it is still a generic weapon, which is the reason given for removing my Steel_Viperscythe. The wiki should remain consistent in it's postings and if a generic weapon is not to be listed then I will abide by that rule:
It seems the Glass Jinkblade is also pretty generic and should be removed. –Eshetalk
My intent was to allow players a heads up on NPC weaponry. Maybe instead of a specific listing, something in the notes saying "random magic weapon" (although I don't see how that would be helpful). I didn't add anything to the page that was listed on an NPC page:
I only think unique items should be listed on the page, and only then should it be added if the NPC does not have its own page. --Mr. Oblivion
"Unique" would also imply "one of a kind" and this is clearly not one of a kind. As to threat level I almost got my ace handed to me by that Viperscythe so I would say it all depends on your level of nubeness and I will follow Eshe's advice and just delist the item. I am starting to understand the editing process and will try to keep the advice of the older members in mind when doing my editing.--Junebug1138 11:50, 17 June 2009 (EDT)

(outdent) Very true, we should strive to remain consistent. Just use common sense when editing and no one will yell at you for doing something they think is wrong. :) --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 15:49, 17 June 2009 (EDT)

Congratulations![edit]

You have been given a gold star!

Congratulations on becoming a Patroller! Well, almost ;). The sea of unpatrolled edits will be haunting you before you know it! –Eshetalk 14:28, 21 June 2009 (EDT)

Thanks, I can't wait for the nightmares! --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 15:06, 21 June 2009 (EDT)

TOCRight[edit]

adding TOCright, sorry RobinHood! :))

I'm not sure whether to grumble or laugh. ;) --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 13:16, 22 June 2009 (EDT)

Haha, I was really hating the massive space on the top created by the regular TOC and the inputbox I put in (well... button). I will add archives as well when it gets there. :) --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 13:18, 22 June 2009 (EDT)

Patrolling Talk Pages[edit]

Hey there! Thanks for all the patrolling you've been doing :). It really is a big help. However, it's generally appreciated if you don't mark talk page edits as patrolled until the question has actually been answered. When other patrollers/admins see a talk page edit has been patrolled, they might mistakenly assume the question has already been answered, which means there could be a very delayed response or no response at all. I know it feels good to make the red marks disappear, but sometimes it's better if you don't get them all ;). Thanks! –Eshetalk 17:23, 22 June 2009 (EDT)

I had a feeling... I think I try not to patrol them, but sometimes I guess I get on a roll. :) I will make sure I don't do it from now on. I assume it is the same if I reply without an exact answer? :) --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 17:25, 22 June 2009 (EDT)
Yeah, probably a good idea to leave it unpatrolled even then. If the question is eventually answered and the original edit is never marked as patrolled, it's not the end of the world ;). –Eshetalk 17:52, 22 June 2009 (EDT)
Well, I am just now using the Patrol page that we can use, which makes it easier. But yes, it truly isn't the end of the world. --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 17:54, 22 June 2009 (EDT)
Being one of the "bottom of the list" people, I tend to patrol any questions that have been answered by the time they make it there. I'll also patrol questions near the top of the list if I've answered them and I know the answer is definitive and that it's unlikely any other contributors would add anything significant to my answer. But as Eshe says, if other patrollers/admins might want to contribute to the answer, it's definitely best to leave it unpatrolled.
Oh, another big one is never to patrol or revert Patrollers'/Admins' talk pages at all, except in clear-cut cases of vandalism. Usually best to leave them to do that. --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 17:51, 23 June 2009 (EDT)

"Verification Needed"[edit]

Hello, you recently placed a "verification needed" tag on an edit I made to the Morrowind Glitches page (specifically the soul trap glitch). I was wondering how I could verify this information. Unfortunately I do not have the ability to load photos/videos of my experiance, so all I can offer is a detailed description. Please let me know. P.S. If this is the incorrect place in which to pose my question, could you let me know. Dlarsh 07:07, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Verification from another editor. If we can prove two people have seen the same thing, then we can show it as a an actual problem, not a slip up of one person's game. --Elliot(T-C) 17:17, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Leave A Comment[edit]

You need to fix the button at the top of your page - it's directing people to your old account's page. –RpehTCE 07:32, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Thanks! It's fixed now. --Elliot(T-C) 17:15, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

cookies?[edit]

What are Cookies, and how do i earn them? I have TES:Morrowind for the xbox, it isn't the GOTY edition though. — Unsigned comment by The Dark Dunmer (talkcontribs) on 27 June 2009

What do you mean? The cookies that are given out for good from editors? --Elliot(T-C) 20:10, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Userboxes[edit]

You probably already noticed yourself, but the userboxes you created (this and this) are no longer proposed for deletion since this morning. Since no-one objected, I think you are free to use them again, if you want to. Wolok gro-Barok 22:16, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Yes I have noticed. I will eventually get around to add them. And I wasn't prohibited from using them, rpeh just felt that they didn't need to be categorized. --Elliot(T-C) 22:18, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Confusion in mages guild ranks[edit]
