Senchal Palace is the seat of power for not just the city of Senchal but for the southern kingdom of Pellitine. It sits at the center of town, where all parts of Senchal, from the southern streets to the northern harbor, meet in the middle. When it was the seat of a kingdom, the monarch and their royal family lived in Senchal Palace, but after the Knahaten Flu killed nobles of the Pellitine bloodline, it was the home of the Senchal City Council and briefly its military protectors, the Shields of Senchal.[1][2]
History[edit]
It is unknown when the Senchal Palace was built, but it hosted the Senchal royal family as early as the late First Era. One of its priceless treasures is a tapestry called the Khajiit of the Moons, a symbol of Senchal's status.[3] King Dro'Zel and Queen Hasaama hosted a party for every Heart's Day and at the end of most days, King Dro'Zel danced with guests in the ballroom. But in 1E 2920, after hearing the Legend of the Lovers from a Bosmer bard from Gil-Var-Delle, King Dro'Zel summoned Molag Bal to destroy the town.[4][5]
Dro'Zel was later appointed as one of Emperor Reman III's advisors[6] and one of several aspects of how much foreign influence has helped Senchal recover from the Thrassian Plague. In time, the Akaviri Potentate, Versidue-Shaie took up residence in Senchal Palace.[7] In 2E 324, Versidue-Shaie was assassinated in Senchal Palace by an unknown assassin,[5] with the words "MORAG TONG" sprawled on the wall with his blood. This moment was important in history for a few reasons. This attack was considered the Morag Tong's first known murder in history,[8] even when they have been active for years, with their most famous assassination being Reman III.[9]
It was also monumental in the province's history as it marked the Elsweyr Confederacy's decline, followed by the royal family's death at the hands of rebels and the old capital's sacking.[5][10] By the sixth century of the Second Era, Senchal was ruled by Governor Z'har Tasluz, a vassal to the Anequina royal family.[1] In 2E 561, he made a speech in front of Senchal Palace. A small part of it was about Tideholm, an island off the coast, east of South Guard.[11]
After the Knahaten Flu killed Z'har Tasluz and the rest of the royal Pellitine bloodline, Senchal fell into chaos and was essentially ruled by criminals and outlaws. When the Thirteenth Legion, led by General Meric Renmus came in at Emperor Varen Aquilarios' request, they re-established order, even when the Emperor disappeared and Cyrodiil itself became lawless. With the help of locals, the Senchal City Council was formed, and without the Empire, the Thirteenth Legion became the city's protectors, the Shields of Senchal, and used Senchal Palace as their headquarters.[1][2]
In 2E 582, Southern Elsweyr dealt with the return of Dragons and their new order, the New Moon Cult. With help from the reformed Dragonguard, the threat was over and Elsweyr was saved. The newly named Queen of Anequina, Khamira held a ceremony to celebrate the heroes that saved them and formally restore the Elsweyr Confederacy by accepting Senchal and Meric Renmus' warriors. Whether he joined Khamira or returned to Cyrodiil with the Shields is unknown, but peace was restored.[12]
Under the Third Empire, the city of Senchal, and by extension, Senchal Palace was the seat of power for the eponymous kingdom in Elsweyr.[8] During the Imperial Simulacrum in the late Third Era, Senchal Palace was occupied by King Huskir,[13] who would often give out quests to any adventurer that approached the court.[14]
