Author links[edit]

Historically, for books in the lore section, we've linked to Books by Author in the author parameter, and then link to the individual's gamespace page there if they appear in-game. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 20:06, 22 February 2014 (GMT)

Yeah, I'm going to create a redirect for Cirantille. The other ones that I changed were all in the Online namespace. Jeancey (talk) 20:09, 22 February 2014 (GMT)
That's fair, though also against past practice. Pages like Morrowind:The Battle of Red Mountain still link to Books by Author. Anyways, I misread the RC list. :P Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 20:22, 22 February 2014 (GMT)
We actually talked a bit on IRC about changing it. Making lore redirects for all the authors and using Lore Link everywhere. There are occasions where the author has their own lore page and the reader might actually be better served if that was linked, rather than the Books by Author page (such as Vivec, or Mankar Camoran). In this case, we would simply link the Books by Author page from the author's main lore page. We haven't worked out all the details yet though, so we hadn't posted the suggestion on the Lore talk page yet. Jeancey (talk) 20:28, 22 February 2014 (GMT)

Through a Nightmare, Darkly Reference Revision[edit]

Jeancey, I noticed that you undid my revision of Through A Nightmare, Darkly on the Oblivion:Easter Egg page. I understand the removal of the sentence about it being referenced elsewhere. However, I was thinking that it may be best if the line from Corinthians "We are looking through a glass, darkly" is mentioned instead of just a link that leads to a broader page about 1 Corinthians. All the other references are explained on-page, so I figure why not this one?--Auburn (talk) 15:06, 23 February 2014 (GMT)

It does appear to be the only reference that doesn't have any explanatory verbage. I support adding some sort of expansion back, as readers will wonder what it is. However, there is the question of which version of the bible would be used (KJV, New International Version, etc.), as many of them translate this phrase differently. It may be best to just state that it is 1 corinthians 13, and link that to wikipedia. --Xyzzy Talk 15:59, 23 February 2014 (GMT)

Authors in ESO[edit]

I didn't know. Just trying to help. --Jimeee (talk) 18:13, 24 February 2014 (GMT)

It's not an issue with you. If the author didn't appear in game, then your link works fine. We are still trying to figure out how to do authors. The vast majority of the authors in previous games didn't appear in the game itself. It was the exception rather than the rule. However, it seems that a large number of the authors in ESO actually do appear in the game. It is uncharted territory for us in some ways. Jeancey (talk) 18:30, 24 February 2014 (GMT)

Confused[edit]

With the animal lore links. First I did {{Lore Link|sabre cat}} and you changed it to {{Lore Link|Sabre Cat|sabre cat}} [1]. I tried to follow that in the next book and did {{Lore Link|Deer|deer}} and you changed it to {{Lore Link|deer}}[2]? Now I'm just confused. What's the standard notation? --Jimeee (talk) 18:33, 26 February 2014 (GMT)

Lore Link doesn't recognize a link if the caps are off, except for the first letter. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 18:37, 26 February 2014 (GMT)
(edit conflict) MediaWiki software auto-capitalizes the first letter of a page. So if you link to deer or Deer, you'll get to the same place, so using {{Lore Link|Deer|deer}} is redundant. However, since it only auto-capitalizes the first letter, technically Sabre cat and Sabre Cat are two different pages, hence the need to specify Sabre Cat as the page in the template, otherwise it won't actually get to the intended page. Jeancey (talk) 18:39, 26 February 2014 (GMT)
Ah, ok I understand now. Cheers.--Jimeee (talk) 18:42, 26 February 2014 (GMT)

Arena Locales[edit]

Hi, I got your message about adding Arena to lore pages about locations that appeared in that game. I understand that red links are generally unwanted and that it's unlikely that the arena namespace will be filled out anytime soon considering the game's age and relative obscurity, but I think every game each location appeared in should be listed for completeness, suggestions?--Sithis be with you! 01:29, 5 March 2014 (GMT)

Feel free to make those pages yourself :) That would be a good way to fix the issue. Jeancey (talk) 01:32, 5 March 2014 (GMT)
As a side note, your signature doesn't appear to be linked when it should be. This can be fixed by going into your Preferences and unchecking the box in the Signature that says "Treat the above as wiki markup". Thanks! :) •WoahBro►talk 01:53, 5 March 2014 (GMT)
Two things why the location pages weren't created so far:
  1. Can we document cities at all? Arena:Places say they are generated randomly. But that is not my experience, and this forum thread reaches the same conclusion. So once it is confirmed they are fixed, we can put maps (annotated with shop/service locations) on the city pages.
  2. Map creation: We certainly can take several screenshots of the in-game map and paste them together. Considering the number of towns a better solution would be to create them automatically. I'm currently working a bit on Arena file format, one place to look for maps would be "CITYDATA.65" (with CITYDATA.#savegame probably saving the player annotations to the maps). --Alfwyn (talk) 14:50, 5 March 2014 (GMT)

Mass file renames[edit]

Just a tip - next time you see me (or another admin) upload a bunch of improperly named images like that, and I'm clearly still around, just tell us. I can rename files without creating a redirect and save a step. It ends up being about the same amount of work for me as deleting all the redirects, and it'll save you a bunch of work. And it also would've saved me from uploading a bunch more bad ones before I noticed you were doing that. (Good catch though, I'm usually pretty good with my spelling, but that's one particular mistake I keep making...) — TheRealLurlock (talk) 02:50, 5 March 2014 (GMT)

Yeah, I know, but we were having a ton of wiki connection issues at the time, and I was already halfway through moving them. Made sense at the time to just push through. Hopefully we won't need to do that again. Jeancey (talk) 03:04, 5 March 2014 (GMT)

Skyshard clues[edit]

Since the skyshards are listed by zone, I think it makes more sense for the clues to be listed on the zone pages. If you're trying to decipher the clues to find the skyshard, you wouldn't know what location to look at if they were only on the individual location pages. --Enodoc (talk) 19:23, 7 March 2014 (GMT)

Fair enough. I was slightly (more than slightly) drunk when I did that. Feel free to add it back. For auridon, all the clues for all the skyshards are on the online map if you want to know where they are located. Jeancey (talk) 19:24, 7 March 2014 (GMT)

ESO Q&A[edit]

Hi. If you're interested, A few ESO devs will be hosting a Q&A on Reddit at 2:00pm Eastern Time today. --Jimeee (talk) 12:34, 20 March 2014 (GMT)

Possibly. I usually use my own sources for things, but it would be interesting to see their answers on things. Jeancey (talk) 12:35, 20 March 2014 (GMT)

Public Dungeons + PoIs[edit]

Just so you know, the lists I was using were directly from the data files Daveh extracted from the game, specifically the Achievements section. So they should have been complete already. Not sure where you're getting your data from, but the ones I list should be the only ones required for the relevant Achievements, which was why I was keeping them separate from other locations. It's possible this may all change at release, however, so we can update then if necessary. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 19:54, 22 March 2014 (GMT)

I was taking data from maps I have gathered during the betas, and I was basing the dungeons/areas of interest on the icons, since that's how they are listed on the map, that's probably how we should be sorting them on the wiki, not based on achievements which may or may not be accurate at this point. All the locations have actual names, so it is likely that the achievements are wrong, not the maps I have given many of the achievements use generic names for the locations. I figure that it is much easier for them to change achievements than locations, so I decided the maps are the more accurate source here. Jeancey (talk) 19:56, 22 March 2014 (GMT)

User:Damon/Ayem - Ordinator project[edit]

As one of the more active and involved Morrowind NS editors, you're a fairly natural choice to ask. Do you mind giving my 'box a looking over? And, anything noteworthy you think should be added that I've missed? Or, if anything is unimportant enough to go? Thanks. -damon  talkcontribs 20:20, 22 March 2014 (GMT)

My namespace. MINE! Umm.... The infoboxes are a little awkward, but there isn't really any getting around it, I would remove the TOC, the first sentence of the behavior section seems contradictory (do you get attacked on sight, or when you interact with them), you can completely remove the RefID and BaseID as that doesn't apply to the Morrowind namespace (like, don't even have N/A), You should be using the Faction template in the infoboxes, gender should be capitalized, you'll need alarm and fight, and you should be linking the actual class. That's it though :) Jeancey (talk) 20:26, 22 March 2014 (GMT)
The infobox is because sandboxes think they are in the Skyrim namespace. The things should work in the Morrowind namespace, and I do use the faction template. You can always hit the "edit" button and look at the source, you lazy bum. :p
As for that first sentence: "If you interact with an Ordinator while wearing either the Indoril Helmet or Cuirass, you'll be perpetually attacked on sight by the Ordinators, because the Indoril armor is sacred to the Order and only an Ordinator is permitted to wear it."
I think that sentence is correct. If you interact with an Ordinator (initiate dialogue), the scripts, globals, or whatever are going to activate, and they will always attack you from that point on. If that doesn't make sense (it does to me, but of course, I wrote it), how would you think I change it? And, thanks for the help, I never threw out. I am not one to do article work, so I often still need a second opinion on my work :p -damon  talkcontribs 05:39, 23 March 2014 (GMT)
I fixed the two different infobox issues. Robin Hood  (talk) 17:56, 23 March 2014 (GMT)

Keepers of the Grove[edit]

I was planning ahead with the disambig, as there will likely be a faction in the lorespace with the same name as the book. --Jimeee (talk) 16:22, 25 March 2014 (GMT)

Long Lost Lore Location[edit]

Recently I removed the reference to Online:Long Lost Lore from Vulkhel Guard, saying that it wasn't there. Indeed, footage of the Aldmeri Dominion version of the quest from the most recent beta (shown here) shows that the books and Shalidor are in Ondil, rather than Vulkhel Guard. However I noticed that you recently reverted the edit, saying that this was in fact where Shalidor was stationed. Are you sure about this? Is it possible that they changed it in a recent beta? Or perhaps we're just now discovering that there are multiple locations for a quest? -Thunderforge (talk) 05:27, 26 March 2014 (GMT)

The quest starts in Vulkhel Guard. That's where the next quest, with Shalidor as the quest giver, is based. You really shouldn't be using Youtube videos as the sources. I actually played the beta, so I am 100% sure that the quest starts in Vulkhel Guard. Jeancey (talk) 05:33, 26 March 2014 (GMT)
It seems that there has been some confusion; for whatever reason I had thought we were just listing the destinations of the quests, rather than the cities in which they were issued. Kind of a "duh" moment for me that "related quests" would encompass both, so that's my mistake. Just to clarify, Long Lost Lore begins with Valaste as the quest giver, rather than Shalidor (although he does continue part of the quest later on once you summon him and he sends you to the Shivering Isles), and she resides in Vulkhel Guard. You said "the next quest" had Shalidor as the quest giver, so perhaps you're thinking of Mages Guild quest #2, which I don't believe we have up yet? Also, I too played the beta, but since my memory is fallible and we can't play the game at the moment, I use YouTube videos of other people who recorded footage of the same stuff I saw to help jog my memory. You don't have to like it, but it's been effective for me thus far. -Thunderforge (talk) 05:53, 26 March 2014 (GMT)

Location info[edit]

Can you tell me where, specifically, you're getting your location info from? I see you keep correcting the location names for things, and I want to know what your source is (mainly so I can stop uploading things with the wrong names and save us both the trouble of correcting things afterwards). — TheRealLurlock (talk) 19:30, 26 March 2014 (GMT)

I'm getting the info from the zone names. The easiest place to see the zone names is on ESOHead, but you could also get the names directly from the data if you want. Jeancey (talk) 19:32, 26 March 2014 (GMT)

Thanks for your response regarding place pages, but...[edit]

I think you've misunderstood me on the portal talk page. The first list is what I think is the correct ordering/naming of subheaders on place pages is supposed to be, while the second list is what I have found different pages current have as the subheader before the start of the actual details of what can be found there. (where I have put ??? on the first list). Sorry for any confusion. Biffa (talk) 03:24, 27 March 2014 (GMT)

Hey[edit]

I noticed you undid my edit on imperials and you said that it was an opinion and POV, I do agree, however I believe the section I put it in was quite a bit of an opinion section and also I would say they are best at fighting and persuading like the knight class. Anything else just let me know <3 77.102.254.180

That's just comparing the skills needed for the knight class to the skills boosted by being an Imperial, I believe. The Imperial skill set is most similar to the Knight class, which would be subjective, not opinion. Jeancey (talk) 18:38, 12 April 2014 (GMT)

Book icons[edit]

Hi, I notice you are adding all the book icons. Since I'm still in the process of creating the Eidetic Memory, is there somewhere (other than the game) that I can see what icons correspond to what books to save you the hassle? --Jimeee (talk) 10:18, 15 April 2014 (GMT)

If you have access to someones game data you can. Other than that, not really. They aren't on ESOHead or any of the other sites. Jeancey (talk) 15:55, 15 April 2014 (GMT)

Both were intentional[edit]

Just thought I'd drop in and say why I'd not given a level to the Cyrodiil intro quests and why I classed them as Alliance quests. The level we're displaying on the quest pages is the level that appears in the journal; these three quests' levels are the same as the level you are when you take the quest, rather than always 50, since everything/nothing in Cyrodiil is the same level due to being battle-levelled (eg for me, the quests' level was 14). I think not displaying a level is more accurate since they can be done at any level. I'd set their type as Alliance because I wanted them trailed to the Alliance page as they introduce the Alliance story of Cyrodiil; also they are themselves PvE quests rather than PvP quests. --Enodoc (talk) 14:28, 17 April 2014 (GMT)

Both fair reasons. I'm okay with you reverting me :P Jeancey (talk) 15:39, 17 April 2014 (GMT)

Maren The Seal On Eastern Island In Peryite's Realm[edit]

Please double check the article as I corrected it and it was undone. It is Maren the Seal's soul who is on the island in the eastern portion of Peryite's Realm and not Mirie's. If you read the entire article as well, you will see this contradiction. Also watch YouTube videos which clearly show this. I went to correct this error and it was once again incorrectly undone.

Edit: You won't need anyone else to double check. Watch this YouTube video from 16:30 on: http://youtu.be/rdGB7aE4b7s?t=16m30s You can clearly see from the video Maren is on the island by the "exit" to Sightless Grotto and the ruined tower.

Not trying to be a jerk, btw. Just want to update and provide correct information.

Images[edit]

Hey, thanks for putting the images up. Have to go to bed here (well, have been needing to for hours) now and was dreading trying to remember to place them after work tomorrow. You would not believe the frustration trying to get that Phaer shot. =P likelolwhat talk lulzy to me 09:19, 20 April 2014 (GMT)

I bet. Also, just remember than the zenimage licensing is only for images from the website. In-game screenshots are just uespimage licensing. Jeancey (talk) 09:21, 20 April 2014 (GMT)
Sure thing. Thanks. likelolwhat talk lulzy to me 03:59, 21 April 2014 (GMT)
Actually, that's not correct. "esimage" is for artwork copyrighted by Bethesda, e.g. Elder Scrolls I-V and some of the side games. Elder Scrolls Online is NOT created by Bethesda, but by its parent company Zenimax, so it is indeed correct to use "zenimage" on any images from ESO, whether from the website or the game. We may need to change the wording on that, as it was written when there was no game yet (at least not publicly), so the website was at the time the only (legal) source of images. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 11:46, 21 April 2014 (GMT)
I've just posted a thread on the AN about this. It turns out we don't actually have an easy way to license ESO screenshots at the moment... — TheRealLurlock (talk) 11:57, 21 April 2014 (GMT)
TRL, I wasn't suggesting we use esimage, but rather uespimage, which specifies that the image was taken as a screenshot from one of the games. You can use a second parameter to specify the company, but the general one should cover everything published by Bethesda Softworks (which ESO is). zenimage specifies that the image in question came from zenimax themselves and was not altered by us, so that doesn't really apply to screenshots. Jeancey (talk) 16:15, 21 April 2014 (GMT)
Yeah, uespimage was what I meant to say. Even so, it doesn't really cover ESO unless you add an extra parameter, which requires a second edit after uploading. Anyhow, I brought it up on AN, so we can just leave the discussion there. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 18:02, 21 April 2014 (GMT)
