The Garland Ring[edit]

After you free Tanlorin from an ice trap, they ask you to accompany them to Monkey's Rest, where they were to meet with Oleander and Wisteria. However, when you arrive at the ruin, no one is there and there are signs they may have been captured by the group they were hunting.

At this, Tanlorin will attempt to get in contact with Hyacinth about this. They walk over to a clear space and take out a glowing sack:

Tanlorin: "Hyacinth is an accomplished mage, loves poking around in old ruins. This little bit of spellcraft is his work."
<Tanlorin places the sack on the ground and opens it. A blurred blue image of an elf appears and turns around.>
Hyacinth: "Bogcup? I can't see you. Did you crack the magicka lattice sitting on it again?"
Tanlorin: "I didn't … Hah. I've never done that. The ice trap must have messed with the spell. You talk to him while I try to fix it."

You can then attempt to talk to Hyacinth:

"Another lattice broken, Bogcup? Those aren't easy to weave together, you know.
Are you with Wisteria and Oleander? No one has checked in. We need to make our move now, before we lose our quarry."
No one else is here.
"Bogcup, what's wrong with your voice? It sounds ghastly. And why are you at Monkey's Rest?
Wisteria and Oleander were headed for the old mine, Toothmaul Gully. That's where the hidden base is. Did the others not tell you?"
A hidden base in Toothmaul Gully?
"Yes. Didn't you read the brief? No, you never read the brief. Why do I even bother?
Look, find the others. They can't be far. And no, before you ask, you cannot bring back any of those monkeys."
All right. I'll tell Tanlorin.

As he realises the case of mistaken identity, the conversation will end:

Hyacinth: "Wait, what? Who is this?"
<His image flickers out.>
Tanlorin: "Toothmaul Gully? That wasn't …. Never mind."

Speaking with Tanlorin, they will get the idea of using the Tracker Fly Hyacinth created to track down their friends. But you will first need to find some reagents around Auridon to create the Reasonating Fluid needed to make the device work. Eventually you and Tanlorin will find yourselves in Toothmaul Gully following the Tracker Fly to a hidden side chamber. Inside you will find a small encampment of Ceythalmor, and Wisteria and Oleander. Unfortunately, Oleander is dead and Wisteria is found injured after being interrogated.

Once Wisteria is rescued, Tanlorin will be worried about Hyacinth and asks you to meet them near Serpent's Grotto in Greenshade to check on him. Hyacinth's Greenhouse is nearby, and you find the place ransacked and Hyacinth missing. While looking for clues, you find the Ceythalmor Mission Orders on the body of a dead operative. These orders say Hyacinth was to be captured and taken to the nearby Rulanyil's Fall for interrogation.

You and Tanlorin enter Rulanyil's Fall and find the Ceythalmor Hideout, where you will find Hyacinth restrained in a magical device slowly freezing him alive. Before you reach him, you have defeat Interrogator Cainthel and the Ceythalmor agents. Once they are slain, Tanlorin will run up to the device Hyacinth is being held in:

Hyacinth: "Bogcup, help me. I'm so cold."
Tanlorin: "I can weaken the ward holding Hyacinth, but I need you to deactivate the control pillars!"
<Tanlorin begins channeling magic at the ward.>

Once you press the buttons on the pillars, the device will deactivate and Hyacinth will be freed:

Hyacinth: "I'm free! Thank you. Thank you both."
<Hyacinth slowly walks away from the machine.>
Tanlorin: "I could never have saved you without my friend here. You've, um, already met."
Hyacinth: "Yes, your friend. We met through the lattice. Please, let's talk a moment."

You can speak with Hyacinth and see what he knows:

"These Ceythalmor are ruthless foes. I am grateful that you arrived in time. I'm not sure how much longer I would have lasted. Thank you.
Bogcup has found a capable ally in you."
What were they trying to learn by capturing you and the other Garland Ring members?
"It would be shorter to list what they weren't interested in. Their questions were numerous and far too specific. I can still feel their magics crawling under my skin. Extremely uncomfortable.
This must all seem so strange. What has Bogcup told you?"
That you're all part of a spy ring.
"Spies? Hmm. Reductive. An oversimplification. I'll let Bogcup explain in greater detail.
You know, I may have ruptured a lung. I should rest. Thank you again for your aid. Your assistance will not be forgotten."

After you talk with him, he will speak to Tanlorin:

Hyacinth: "Bogcup, you may tell your friend anything and everything. I wholeheartedly approve."

You can then speak with Tanlorin and complete the quest. Afterwards there will be a conversation:

Hyacinth: "Bogcup, we should return to the Greenhouse. I need to recover and bolster my wards."
Tanlorin: "Of course. Oh, I hope Wisteria made it back all right."
Tanlorin: "And friend, remember what I said. Call on me anytime. I owe you and it would be fun!"
<Tanlorin then runs towards the side exit and leaves.>

Before you leave, you can ask Hyacinth some questions:

"There is much to understand about what went wrong today. How were the Ceythalmor able to find us? There's much to consider.
The Garland Ring will take its time before we make a move again."
Can I ask you a few questions?
"Yes. I can answer a few questions. Although for my sake, let's keep it brief.
I worry without a salve of some kind I may lose a toe or two."
Are you the leader of the Garland Ring?
"The leader? No. Nor am I its founder. That would be the Gardener. Perhaps you will meet him some day. I am certain you will have piqued his curiosity after today.
My role is magical craftsman and researcher. Builder of tools, solver of problems."
You made the tracker fly Tanlorin used?
"That's correct. I have a love for all things magical, with a focus on the constructs of the Dwarves.
I have a hunger for innovation and iteration rivaled only by Bogcup's skill at testing their limits."
Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
"I'm not sure what you want me to say. I work for the Garland Ring as toolmaker and researcher. I enjoy reading Investigator Vale novels while sipping wine in the evenings.
What more would you like to know?"
How did you come to join the Garland Ring?
"My father smuggled clockwork creations. One day he was caught and I was left orphaned. I traded small constructs for gold, food, and shelter.
One day I built a mechanical bird for the Gardener, our founder. He took me in. End of story."

Thorns and Blossoms[edit]

When you reach Friendly Rapport with Tanlorin, they will show you the invitation they received from the Gardener and asks you to accompany them to the new Greenhouse. After following a set of riddles around Malabal Tor, you soon find the entrance to the Gardener's Greenhouse near the Ritual Mundus Stone.

Once inside, Tanlorin will have you speak with the Gardener, who can be found with Hyacinth:

The Gardener: "Welcome, Bogcup. And you must be their curious new friend."
Hyacinth: "Hmm. I see you managed to solve his riddles."
The Gardener: "Pardon the mess. I'm still unpacking."

Speaking with Hyacinth before the Gardener:

"The Gardener will see you now."

Talking with the Gardener, you learn that after the outcome of the last mission, he had been contacting Ring members—past and present to check on them. Snapdragon, an ex-member had not responded to any of his messages and he asks you and Tanlorin to check on her in Skywatch. After agreeing to help:

Tanlorin: "You get to meet Snapdragon! Oh, I miss her. This is going to be great."
Hyacinth: "The Ceythalmor will almost certainly be watching. Tread carefully."

Before you leave, you can talk with Hyacinth to see how he is going:

"Thank you again. For saving me. It was quite the sight, you and Bogcup dealing with my captors.
Thrilling, even. I imagine your adventures with Bogcup are similarly exhilarating."
Have you recovered from the attack?
"Well enough. And nothing in the greenhouse was permanently damaged. There are a few experiments I'll have to start again, but such is life.
I understand the Ceythalmor's goal was to capture me. But why disturb my collections? Infuriating."
I meant, have you recovered from your wounds?
"My wounds? You were asking after my health. Ah. I am completely healed, thanks to restorative magics.
I considered fashioning a back brace from brassilisk parts. Unfortunately, by the time I worked out the design, I no longer needed the contraption."

When in Skywatch, you learn from some Mage Adepts that Snapdragon was arrested by the guard. Checking Reeve Nardarmor's office, you find proof that Snapdragon was taken to Sunhold. Tanlorin will suggest that you reach out to Hyacinth for help:

<Tanlorin walks to corner of room and places the communication lattice.>
Tanlorin: "I can contact Hyacinth through my lattice, but I'll need you to talk to him. Just be a moment."
<The projection of Hyacinth appears.>
Hyacinth: "Ah, Bogcup. Have you located Snapdragon?"

Talk to Hyacinth to tell him what happened:

"I can't help but notice the drab interior behind you. The office of some minor functionary, I presume? Bogcup certainly loves to burgle.
Were you able to procure any information as to the whereabouts of Snapdragon?"
Snapdragon was arrested. We believe they sent her to Sunhold.
"Sunhold? That's not good. I assume Bogcup wants to storm the fortress and rescue her?
The trick will be getting you to Sunhold without alerting the Summerset authorities or the Sea Elf pirates currently in control of the city."
Tanlorin thought you might have some suggestions.
"I am a font of suggestions and brilliant ideas. The question is, will any of them work? The answer? Indubitably.
Head to South Beacon. There's a spot along the beach just south of the lighthouse. That should do nicely, yes. Meet me there."
All right, we'll meet you on the beach.

The conversation ends:

Hyacinth: "South Beacon, southwest of the lighthouse. And Bogcup, don't stop to feed any monkeys along the way."
<The projection disappears.>
Tanlorin: "Heh, that Hyacinth. Let's get moving."

Head to South Beacon, and you will find Hyacinth on the beach in front of an intricate ritual circle:

Hyacinth: "Take care not to disturb the sand, if you please."
Tanlorin: "I recognize a few of these runes. What are you planning, Hyacinth?"
Hyacinth: "Everything will be fine, Bogcup. Friend of Bogcup, a word."

Speak with Hyacinth to learn about his plan:

"Transposing conduits of magicka like this was not easy. But I never shy away from a challenge.
Your goal is to reach Sunhold. The magic circle I created will aid you in this venture."
Is that some sort of teleportation circle?
"Not at all. Sunhold features significant protections against unwanted portals. No, you must sail there in the small boat I procured.
However, without magical aid, you will never avoid the Sea Elf raiders or the Dominion navy patrolling the bay."
Maybe you should explain this plan of yours to me in simple terms.
"Of course. Bogcup will use their soul magic to enchant the boat.
I see that horrified face they are making behind you, but they are more than capable. Soul magic deals with connections. This circle will amplify Bogcup's spell and those connections."
Connections? How will that help us get to Sunhold?
"Everything is connected. People, objects, the sea. Despite the best efforts of their close-minded relatives, Bogcup's affinity to soul magic is quite exceptional.
The spell will enhance these connections to speed your voyage and hide you at sea."
All right. I'll wait for Tanlorin to cast their spell.

Tanlorin walks up to the circle and Hyacinth:

Tanlorin: "I am so mad at you right now, Hyacinth."
Hyacinth: "Of course you are. Take this portal curio for a quick return exit when you're done. Now, into the circle. And focus."
<Tanlorin walks into the circle and begins focusing on the sail boat. They glow with blue and gold light and the sail boat glows blue as well.>
Tanlorin: "Focus. I can feel the ship. And there! Hah! Hyacinth, you were right! I am exceptional!"

Talking to Hyacinth before leaving:

"As I said, Bogcup is more capable than they realize. The portal curio I provided should open a doorway from Sunhold to the Gardener's greenhouse in Malabal Tor. Sunhold's protections deter portals in, not out.
Good luck. For Snapdragon's sake."

After you rescue Snapdragon from the Ceythalmor Prison, you can use one of Hyacinth's Portal curios to return to the Greenhouse. If you talk to Hyacinth before Snapdragon:

"You and Bogcup performed admirably, as expected. Well done. I never doubted young Bogcup for a moment.
You, I'm coming to appreciate as well."

Speaking with Snapdragon, she will explain why she originally left the ground and tells you about her belief that the Garland Ring is compromised. Afterwards you can talk to Hyacinth to see his reaction:

"A traitor? An informant? Impossible. Unthinkable.
Though if there is, perhaps a spellcraft of some kind could ferret them out. Hmm. Much to consider."

Once you have spoken with Tanlorin and completed the quest, you can talk to Hyacinth:

"A weed among the flowers? How appropriate. Destructive growths, choking out all around them with no remorse.
How best to root out this pest? Hmm."

Uprooted[edit]

When you reach Close rapport with Tanlorin, they will have received a letter from Hyacinth. It advises that Snapdragon wants Tanlorin and you to meet with her at Firsthold, and collect her research into the Garland Ring traitor. Once you arrive at Snapdragon's Cottage, you find it has been ransacked, but Snapdragon was able to hide a letter for Tanlorin in plain sight. The letter tells you she noticed Ceythalmor agents in the area, and that she had received a letter from Hycanith to meet him at the Bone Orchard. She did not trust him fully, so she left the letter as a warning.

After you arrive at the meeting place, you find signs of a fight with the Ceythalmor with Snapdragon and Hyacinth nowhere to be found. Tracking a blood trail, you find the dying Snapdragon who says Hyacinth was with Ceythalmor agents when she arrived and she barely got away. With her final words, she tells you to search the Smuggler's Tunnels beneath Southpoint and deal with the traitor Hyacinth.

As you and Tanlorin search the tunnels for Hyacinth, you are told by the injured Agent Firinn to check the Captain's Quarters. In the makeshift torture chamber, you find a Etched Metal Disk and the Ceythalmor Captain's Journal. Tanlorin will recognize the disk as an invention of Hyacinth's that records memories, and by throwing it in a fire, you can force them to play.

When you throw the Etched Metal Disk into the nearby brazier, a scene between a bound Hyacinth and Captain Cynoric will play out:

Captain Cynoric: "Didn't you hear me? I said, try anything clever again and I'll gut you where you stand."
Hyacinth: "Technically I am never not doing something clever. Where are you taking me?"
Captain Cynoric: "Our insider finally wants to properly introduce themselves. We're headed to Crimson Cove, tinkerer."
<The memory stops playing.>

You can then go to the Crimson Cove where you find the Ceythalmor Base behind a hidden passage. Once inside, you will Hyacinth trapped in a magical torture device as the traitor Wisteria talks to him. Captain Cynoric and some agents will be watching the show. When Tanlorin confronts Wisteria, she will have Captain Cynoric and the Ceythalmor fight you.

Once Captain Cynoric and the other agents are dead, Wisteria will escape:

Wisteria: "I did this for us, Tan. You'll see. This is all for us."
<She leaves through a portal.>
Hyacinth: "Tanlorin … the levers."
<Tanlorin runs up to the magical torture device.>
Tanlorin: "Pull the control levers, friend!"

After the machine is turned of, Hyacinth will stagger down:

Tanlorin: "That did it! Hyacinth, are you all right?"
Hyacinth: "Thank you, both. I would not have lasted much longer. We should speak outside."

When you go outside, Hyacinth will despondently sitting on a rock while Tanlorin stands to the side:

Hyacinth: "Oh, Wisteria. You showed so much promise."

You can then speak with Hyacinth and learn what happened:

"Wisteria is the traitor. I suppose I should have seen it sooner. Talented. Self-determined. A natural leader. Blast.
What is the Garland Ring now? Just childish dreams and dead friends."
What happened in there?
"After Snapdragon and I were tricked into meeting at the Bone Orchard, the Ceythalmor captured me and took me to those tunnels. I assume you found my disk? Ingenious, if I do say so.
Then they brought me here, to meet with the traitor. Wisteria."
Why was she torturing you?
"She seeks the Ring's innermost secrets. Names of allies, informants. Even the Gardener's true identity. I may have given her the impression that all exists in a journal, hidden in my greenhouse in Greenshade.
You and Bogcup must go there, quickly."
Where's the real journal hidden?
"There is no journal. All our deepest secrets, those are all in my head.
Regardless, you need to confront Wisteria. Stop her. For Bogcup."
All right, we'll head back to your greenhouse.

Afterwards you will hear the following:

Tanlorin: "Wisteria has gone to your greenhouse? Good. She and I need to have a word."
Hyacinth: "Careful, Bogcup. Wisteria is not who we thought she was."
Tanlorin: "Get to the Gardener, Hyacinth. We can handle Wisteria."

Talking to Hyacinth before leaving:

"Go carefully. Wisteria is a powerful mage. Diplomacy is likely out of the question, but perhaps Bogcup can reason with her.
In the meantime, I will make my way to the Gardener's greenhouse."

Of Crown and Flowers[edit]

When you reach Allied rapport with Tanlorin, will have received an inheritance of a safebox from Snapdragon and is informed via a letter from the Marbruk Bank to come and collect it. This coffer had been given to the bank a week before her death, so with no other leads regarding the Ceythalmor and Wisteria, you and Tanlorin decide to look into this. Inside the safebox, you find Snapdragon's Research Journal which has Snapdragon's suspicions of the various Garland Ring members and their movements.

While searching the places Wisteria visited in Greenshade, Tanlorin is able to use their connection with Wisteria and Soul Magic to conjure spectral memories of the traitor. From this you learn that the Ceythalmor are amassing at Dusk Keep in Summerset, to launch their plan to assassinate Proxy Queen Alwinarwe. At this, Tanlorin will want to meet with the Gardener and Hyacinth to tell them what is going on, as well as attempt to use their soul connections with Wisteria to create a portal.

You can then head to Hyacinth's Greenhouse where you find Hyacinth and the Gardener, Tanlorin will burst in with the news:

Tanlorin: "Gardener! Hyacinth! We know Wisteria's plan! And I know how to get to her. But we need your help!"
Hyacinth: "Bogcup? Calm yourself and start from the beginning."
Tanlorin: "No time! I need to focus. My friend can explain everything."

Speaking with Hyacinth before the Gardener:

"I have rarely seen Bogcup so animated. Outside of a tavern, anyway. The Gardener and I have had no luck in tracking Wisteria. She went to great lengths to hide her movements.
Speak with the Gardener. I am eager to hear what has Bogcup so excited."

After you have spoken with the Gardener, he will agree to the plan and asks Tanlorin what they need to do:

The Gardener: "All right, Bogcup. What would you have us do?"
<Blue magic gathers around Tanlorin.>
Tanlorin: "Everyone think about Wisteria. Strengthen my connection. I'll push out and bridge the space between us."
<Hyacinth and the Gardener join and the blue magic spreads to them.>
Tanlorin: "It's working! Friend, reach out with us. Dusk Keep, here we come!"

You and Tanlorin will be successfully teleported to Dusk Keep, where you cut your way through Ceythalmor forces to reach Wisteria. While you are unable to stop her from teleporting to the Alinor Palace, you are able to follow her. The main hall of the royal palaces will be covered in ice, and the remaining guards will be defending the Proxy Queen from the Ceythalmor. You and Tanlorin will disrupt the assassination attempt and will fight Wisteria and her forces to the death.

After you have slain Wisteria and saved the Proxy Queen, Talorin will awkwardly introduce themselves before the Gardener arrives and reveals himself to be her uncle. You have the option of talking to the Proxy Queen before entering a portal back to the Gardener's Greenhouse. Once back at the greenhouse, Tanlorin will greet Hyacinth:

Tanlorin: "Hyacinth! Look, we're alive!"
Hyacinth: "Yes. I can see that. I presume everything turned out well?"
The Gardener: "Most extraordinary! Bogcup and their friend stopped Wisteria and saved the Proxy Queen."
Tanlorin: "After everything we've been through, can we stop with the flower names. Why am I a Bogcup, anyway?"
The Gardener: "Oh, Bog—Tanlorin. The name was never meant as an insult. The bogcup blossom flourishes in the harshest of environments. Just like you."
Tanlorin: "Oh, that's … that's sweet, actually. Thank you."

Speaking with Hyacinth before the Gardener:

"To say I am impressed would be an understatement. Since the beginning, you have proven yourself time and time again.
Enough pleasantries. The Gardener would like a word."

Talking to the Gardener, he will talk about the future of the Garland Ring and asks you participate in a ceremony to remember the fallen. Talking to him after picking up the Bouquet of Ceremonial Flowers:

"Interesting fact. These flowers bloom across the Dominion. From Summerset to the deserts of Elsweyr. In a way, they represent the great beauty this part of the world shares in common. United.
Ah, well. Into the fire with them."

The Gardener will give a speech and then you can place the flowers on a nearby brazier. Afterwards, you can talk to Hyacinth before Tanlorin:

"Your time with us was brief, but impactful. For whatever it is worth, I think fondly of our time together. Well done.
If Tanlorin continues to travel at your side, I wish you the best. Just. Please ensure they stay well. They are … unique."

When you talk to Tanlorin, they will have decided it is time to leave the Garland Ring and will want to keep adventuring with you. At the completion of the quest, Tanlorin will talk to the Gardener and formally resign from the Garland Ring:

Tanlorin: "Gardener, I understand what you're doing. But I think my time with the Garland Ring has come to an end. It's been an honor."
The Gardener: "Tanlorin, the honor was all mine. Of course, you should do what you think is right for you. I wish you only the best."
Hyacinth: "Do not forget us, Tanlorin. Though I suppose that is highly unlikely. I am quite memorable. Do come visit when you can."
Tanlorin: "Oh I will. I'll still drag you out to get drinks every now and then, Hyacinth. Thank you. Both of you."

You can speak with Hyacinth again before leaving:

"I briefly imagined you would join our ranks. I even started a design on your armor. Alas, it was not meant to be. Perhaps our paths will cross again.
Until then, enjoy your adventures with Tanlorin. The Gardener and I will see to the rest."
What will you do next?
"It appears I have some spare time. No doubt the Gardener will call me back to my workshop soon enough. But not today.
Perhaps I will do some traveling. You and Tanlorin seem to enjoy that lifestyle. Perhaps it would suit me, as well."
Where would you go?
"It has been some time since I did a thorough scavenging run into a Dwemer construct. Or perhaps I will once again try to find the entrance to the fabled Clockwork City.
I have learned so much from the scraps. Imagine what I could learn firsthand."
