Eye Color[edit]

There seems to be a debate about the eye color of reanimated victims. I go with blue-black: see these examples...
Example #1Example #2Example #3

That's all with a fully-patched, UOP-ed version. Can someone give details of their red-eyed versions? –RpehTCE 10:22, 2 November 2008 (EST)

I can remember that in my game (360) all reanimated eyes are red. Perhaps this is a side-effect of the UOP?--LordDagonT|C 10:42, 2 November 2008 (EST)
In my 360 version of the game, eye colors are reddish-pink as described in the article. I don't know it it's a mod or the UOP on pc versions, but every reanimated character in my version has reddish-pink eyes.--penguin0719 10:49, 2 November 2008 (EST)
I'm rocking the PC version (the most recent patch being the one that fixed that ID problem after Shivering Isles' release) over here and have the black/blue eyes as well. Are you sure this isn't an issue with the 360 version as opposed to the PC version? I've checked in the construction set and the eyes are definitely supposed to be that colour based on the image files I've found. --KatzMotel 15:48, 29 December 2008 (EST)
PC Version here and I get blue-black eyes too. I've added tge Good Question tag to see if we can get more concrete information for the XBox 360 (and the PS3). So far we have one "reddish-pink" and one remembrance. Any more definite info? Dr Jones 16:54, 29 December 2008 (EST)
XBOX 360 has Pink eyes. I believe it's the UOP that changes the eye color. DaedryonTCE 21:27, 29 December 2008 (EST)
Wait, is Reanimate the spell that the Staff of Worms uses? Because when using the Staff of Worms, eye color is Pink (360) DaedryonTCE 21:30, 29 December 2008 (EST)

In my xbox game some get like red or pink eyes.

(outdent) It's nothing to do with the UOP. I just tried in a vanilla game and still got the blue-black eyes. –RpehTCE 15:24, 30 December 2008 (EST)

Well then maybe it's a console difference? PC has blue-black, and 360 has Red. Try installing Oblivion, KotN, SI, and all the official plugins, then doing it again and see what colour the eyes are, because that's what XBOX 360 is like. All official stuff only, no UOP patches. DaedryonTCE 18:42, 30 December 2008 (EST)
I have the xbox game and mine is reddish. I will be getting the pc game in a few days so i'll mension if its blue or red

hmm...being a xbox user the eyes are pink so i don't know?--GUM!!! 01:00, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

PS3 GOTY verison: blue. Mikeyboy52 05:25, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

hmm...i just noticed something...the eyes where blue for like one milisecond before turning pink...--GUM!!! 15:33, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
I re-tested and noticed everytime i reanimate imperials its blue, most others go pinkish Mikeyboy52 17:05, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Little late, but I wanted to contribute. I'm on Xbox, and on all of my characters when I reanimate they have purple eyes. 68.150.5.60 19:38, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

PS3 here and mine are blue black. It looks like everyone is blue black except for 360, but I've yet to see an actual picture of red eyes.

Attacking?[edit]

There's some conflicting information on the page: "Revived characters will never attack you no matter how many times they are hit by you" " A reanimated guard may help other guards if they are attacking you."

82.95.155.246 11:03, 6 January 2009 (EST)

I see where you were confused, but it means that, unlike summons and followers, there's no three-hit rule, that is to say, if you strike your follower or summoner 3 times, in or out of combat, they will turn on you and strike. However, reanimated characters won't do this. Although, if they would help others, then that is seen as "assisting allies", instead of "attacking controller". If you'd like, I'll change it to something more understandable (than what I said myself, too).Lovless510 03:51, 11 January 2009 (EST)
I can't hit my follower. Spells and Weapons pass through them like they're not there. --Darkheart 20:35, 18 June 2009 (EDT)

spellmaking.[edit]

So am I right in thinking its impossible to create a "Reanimate" spell at a spellmaking Altar?--Repeater 14:00, 18 April 2009 (EDT)

Yes. That would be why the article states: "Even if you obtain the Risen Flesh power, it is not possible to create custom spells or enchantments using this effect." --NepheleTalk 14:53, 18 April 2009 (EDT)
Both- if you're on a PC you can use your TES construction set. Load the Oblivion master file, select Magic Effects from the Gameplay menu. Type "rean" to scroll through and get the reanimate effect. Click the box for spellmaking and/or enchanting. — Unsigned comment by 70.176.71.45 (talk) on 31 July 2009
If you change the game, then of course you can make it possible. The article is talking about an unmodded game. –rpehTCE 08:10, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Does this bug exist?[edit]

The article says that all of the items on a reanimated NPC's corpse respawn when the effect expires. Suppose, for a minute, that I initially kill Umbra without her dropping her sword (or some other NPC with a powerful weapon), so it's still technically on her corpse when she dies. Will this this weapon respawn every time I reanimate her?

No. It says that items that are created when a character dies are recreated. Umbra had Umbra before she died, so it was not created when she died, so it will not be re-created. --24.128.153.192 22:43, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

Beyond the call of Duty[edit]

Has anyone ever had it where a resurrected guard would suddenly start running and checking all the bodies you just made from a massacre, and then attempt to arrest you? I think it happened when my bounty was high enough for him to run up and arrest me. --65.87.242.28 02:38, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

I've had this happen to me. I resurrected the guard, and as he was floating upwards, he proceeded to arrest me, but kept floating. I left the dialogue there for a few minutes until he was about 100 feet above ground. I resisted arrest, and he fell and died again... I tried to get this to happen again but it appeared to be a one time thing. --Mptrj 02:44, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
Well, if you read the article...
For example, if you are fighting off Imperial Guards, kill one, and reanimate it with your Staff of Worms, it may begin attacking you, because it's helping its fellow faction members.
...you find out why. --Elliot(T-C) 09:44, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
No no no. He didn't attack me. He arrested me. As in "STOP! YOU VIOLATED THE LAW!" And to the second guy, the exact same thing happened to me, except he got caght on a roof, so he didn't fall and die. --65.87.242.28 06:13, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

getting them to talk?[edit]

i find this quete werid cause they aren't really supposed to talk but you're probly wondering how you get them to talk?put on the grey cowl and they'll say "it's the grey fox!"or something like that(if this is already listed on the article sorry i don't have the time to read it right now--GUM!!! 01:06, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

I tried a ton of stuff, no talking basically, as far as i have seen. There may have been something I overlooked (and probably likely). Mikeyboy52 22:04, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
no like they don't ttalk to you they just say "it's ther gray fox!" like any other NPC but you don't go to face to face talk--GUM!!! 23:16, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Oh I thought you meant press X (on the ps3) to enter chat.. Mikeyboy52 05:19, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Infinite Items[edit]

(moved from the article)
  • Any resurrected NPC can not be over-encumbered and can be used to store an infinite amount of items.
How does this work? How can you add items to a resurrected NPC, and what's the point given that they just die again after a few seconds? rpeh •TCE 13:27, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
what it means is you can put lets say you put 500 ebony currsias on a dead NPC and it can still move if you use the staff of worms on it i'm pretty sure i've done this before and it makes moving stuff alot easer — Unsigned comment by GUM!!! (talkcontribs) on 10 May 2010
Even having to reanimate somebody every 30s? rpeh •TCE 13:43, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
i guess but it's faster then moving each item individuly plus if you have SI you can get risen flesh wich is 60 seconds--GUM!!! 13:48, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
But that only works once per day. rpeh •TCE 14:20, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
but after you use it you can use the staff of worms wich is easyer then dragging a corpse around(and faster)--GUM!!! 14:25, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
Look, this is ridiculous. How many filled soul gems are you going to have to lug around to keep it charged? Why not just use a spell like this and save yourself the trouble? I simply don't believe anybody really uses this technique to head from dungeon after dungeon, filling up the NPC each time while using soul gem after soul gem to keep them moving. rpeh •TCE 14:29, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
yeah i guess you're right...but i never said to put it back...--GUM!!! 19:53, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
Lol, Varla stones and fast travel. dupe glitches help a lot, sorry I couldnt respond to the question, i live in china so odd hours. if you reanimate untill you have a corpse on the ground (or SoC glitch) outsite the dungeon, fast travel back and forth from house to dungeon. With some of the larger dungeons this could come in really usefull, especially if you have a low amount of strength. I've been using this technique for a little over three months, mostly for those huge dungeons. Although theres more applications. Its a fairly small note and overall I think it would be worth mentioning, but would like to know what Rpeh and GUM have to say, and any other person that sees this :D Mikeyboy52 20:22, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Using Varla Stones to recharge a single item is a colossal waste of a finite resource. By the time you have enough to make it practical, you'll have enough money anyway. If people really want this on the page then they can add it, but I think it's a damn silly idea. rpeh •TCE 11:18, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
If you dont mind duping, this is a good way to get more daedric armour pieces (i cant seem to dupe them any way, searching clonese is a little hard since you have to have perfect timing)varla stones can be duped, daedric armour, cant. if you enchant a lot, especially daedric armour, this could help quite a bit. Mikeyboy52 22:00, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

I've just read about this "dead NPC pack mule" recently and was suprised that it's not up somewhere. The 30 sec limit is annoying but the SoW isn't hard to keep charged, summon spells and Azuras star work well. Regardless of whether or not this is practical to implement it should be listed, as it is an exploit. Any argument along the lines of "but what about.." shouldnt matter. Is this up on a different page or what?Datacaust 20:41, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Just a note: Shadowmere can be used for this without the need for reanimate, although only outside cities. More info: Oblivion:Containers#Alive. --Wizy (Talk/Contribs) 21:16, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
Uh yeah, this can be done in dungeons though. I think that new players should have the right to decide for themselves if they want to use this function of game mechanics. What does everybody think about the following wording.Datacaust 08:01, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
  • A dead NPC can be used as a container and then reanimated. This is one way of transporting loot as the NPC can not become over encumbered.

I want to know what makes something "impractical" or not. Since that was your reason for deleting this "stupid" note. Moving loot out of dungeons once they're cleared using this method wouldn't require using the staff more than 3 or 4 times. Then once your outside use that.

Exploit

1. to utilize, esp. for profit; turn to practical account.

2. to use selfishly for one's own ends.

3. to advance or further through exploitation; promote.

1. a notable deed or feat, esp one that is noble or heroic.

2. to take advantage of (a person, situation, etc), esp unethically or unjustly for one's own ends

3. to make the best use of: to exploit natural resources

Moving Out of Cities[edit]

How do I get NPCs who have died inside cities to follow me outside of the city? I can't get Agarmir, for example, to leave the Palace District. Any solution to this? Ariseth 23:38, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Reanimated Character Behavior[edit]

While playing on PC I found a few odd traits from the reanimated. Two of the dead I reanimated were Uriel Septim and Umbra. In both of these cases I attempted to get them to follow me into the Imperial City but they would not. They would follow me into caves, mines, etc but not the city. When I saw that they were not there with me I immediately turned around and left the city and as soon as I appeared outside they were right there waiting, but died instantly (regardless of how long the reanimate spell had left). Even stranger, on inspection the corpses were now no longer "<Character>'s Uriel Septim" and "<Character>'s Umbra", they were simply "Uriel Septim" and "Umbra" again. In Umbra's case, when I first killed her (before reanimating) I swapped her armor for mine. I gave her several pieces of daedric armor and a sword, thinking that she might equip them. When we first encountered an enemy, she equipped the sword, but stayed naked. When she died as a result of me entering and exiting the city, she'd seemed to had equipped the armor while I was inside the city. Ghost Host 17:48, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

It crashed.[edit]

I recently got the Staff of Worms and decided to experiment with it, but just when I used it on a corpse, the game suddenly crashed. Is anyone else experiencing this bug? And if so, what should I do? Nikofeelan 16:13, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
