Souls[edit]

The Oblivion map is large, and the compass arrows don't help much (since you can't fly over the lava). I tried to note where the five souls are, but I'm blamed if I can tell you their relative location.

  1. Near the bridges you start out at; some corpses on huge skewers are prominent landmarks.
  2. Next to the entrance to the Blood Well (the huge tower). (The tower has a Blood Fountain and Magickal Essences at the top.)
  3. By one of the doors of the Sightless Grotto.
  4. By some enormous clawed spikes.
  5. On a little island you have to jump over to.

If you haven't been to Oblivion before, note that Fleshy Pods are the equivalent of treasure chests, Blood Fountains heal you, and Magickal Essences replenish magicka. Zompist 01:40, 24 July 2006 (EDT)

Bug Warning[edit]

WARNING This quest is known to have a bug where you may not have a portal opened upon capturing all the souls. Make sure you make a save point before you start this quest!

This note was added to the article; I moved it here. Can anyone provide more details on this bug? For example, what actions trigger the bug, what to do or what not to do? Given that nobody has posted anything about this before, I doubt this is a really common problem, so it's not clear that such a dramatic and uninformative warning is appropriate. --Nephele 00:30, 18 February 2007 (EST)

Well, recently I encountered a bug where the game wouldn't recognize that I saved Kewan, so even after I saved all five souls, the portal wouldn't show up, and even if I skipped the stages with the console to open said portal, it wouldn't let me go through. The only way I was able to complete the quest was to revert to a previous save from before I went into the realm, skip to quest stage 90, then talk to Peryite to hear his message and get Spell Breaker that way. I've seen this happen with at least two characters I've played. Anyway, I only pointed that out because it sounds somewhat similar to that warning. --Chill02 05:48, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

I've had this problem too. After collecting all five souls I was unable to enter the blue portal. Anyone found a way around this?70.27.32.39 19:00, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

It also happened to me. One of the souls died in the lava but I was able to release his dead body anyway. After the last soul there was no portal so I had to use an old savegame. 87.176.172.141 20:00, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

same problem here. the fifth soul ran for cover and ran straight into the lava. i tried to reach him several times and couldn't. i began searching for ingredients to make health potions to survive a lava bath! then i received a message saying i captured the soul i was trying to reach. now i'm stuck with no portal and the quest seems to be unable to progress. phil.

Planes of Oblivion - Peryite's Realm[edit]

Does anyone fine it odd that Peryite's worshippers seem to be stuck in Mehrunes Dagon's plane of Oblivion instead of Peryite's? I could extrapolate that since it is said that Peryite’s pits are inaccessable to mortals that those attempting to reach their got stuck in another plane instead. The actual plane of Oblivion that you end up in is actually called Peryite's Realm though, it's all a bit confusing. Grandmaster z0b 20:03, 11 April 2007 (EDT)

It's called developer laziness. Either that or they wanted to save the revelation of an entire daedric plane for an expansion instead of a small shrine quest. --193.71.103.180 21:30, 23 July 2007 (EDT)
Considering the amount of work that went into Oblivion already, this is hardly surprising. The same goes for Boethia's plane. --Twentyfists 15:16, 1 May 2008 (EDT)
It's not his realm to begin with it's a realm in between his and nirn, and this was discussed in the peryite talk page.

Peryite's worshippers[edit]

does anyone else find them great to train on? they are paralyzed and invincible so smack them around all day long, i maxed out my hand-to-hand skill when i discovered this (of course they revert back after you're done) — Unsigned comment by 90.196.8.66 (talk)

Umm... yeah. Perhaps that's why it's mentioned in the quest notes. And in general strategies for increasing combat skills. Not exactly a new idea, I'm sorry to say. --NepheleTalk 01:10, 16 October 2007 (EDT)

Just Curious[edit]

If lighting the Dragon Fires is supposed to seal the barriers between the rest of Oblivion and Tamriel, shouldnt this quest be impossible to do if you have completed the main quest?

Peryite's realm isn't the same as Mehrunes Dagon's realm (Oblivion). Likely the designers simply reused the existing Oblivion items and landscape as it was easier than recreating an entire environment for a single quest. There is a similar situation with Boethia's daedric quest, where you are ostensibly sent to Boethia's plane, although in-game it is indistinguishable from Oblivion. --Saruuk 03:15, 23 May 2008 (EDT)

Mehrunes Dagon does not own Oblivion. He owns a realm of it, the "Deadlands".

The Dragonfires don't completely seal the barriers between Nirn and Oblivion. All they do is prevent the Daedra from coming into Tamriel uninvited. They can still be summoned, and and mortals can still pass into Oblivion at will (otherwise you wouldn't be able to do the Shivering Isles quests either). --Gaebrial 03:29, 23 May 2008 (EDT)
Just a picky but rather the barrier only prevents Daedra from entering in uninvited. Aside from being summoned, portals could be opened before the Oblivion crisis for short durations and presumably still can afterwards. See liminal bridges. 62.251.15.186 06:47, 10 August 2008 (EDT) Proweler
The Dragonfires remain unlit and the Amulet of Kings no longer exists at the end of the Main Quest. Nothing suggests that the barriers have been re-established. Oh, there's talk that Tamriel is free from the threat of Dagon forever, but that may simply be a result of that particular Prince's banishment by the avatar of Akatosh. —Dark Spark 01:31, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
The barrier is restored because all portals are closed. Liminal Bridges notes something about how the portals duration is limited by the strength of the barrier. 62.251.15.186 06:47, 10 August 2008 (EDT) Proweler

Dungeon/wilderness music bug?[edit]

I just completed the quest and noticed that when I went into the tower, instead of hearing the dungeon music, the wilderness music was playing. Has anyone else experienced this? Just making sure before I add it. — Unsigned comment by Blue deep (talkcontribs) on 29 June 2009

I checked, and the tower interior is indeed set to play Wilderness music (instead of Dungeon music). I don't think it's noteworthy enough to put it here, but I'm working on rewriting all articles on Oblivion Worlds so I'll remember to add the glitch to the Peryite Oblivion World article instead. --Timenn < talk > 19:23, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Incorporeal Peryite Statue[edit]

When I attempted to speak to the statue I was unable to and as I walked toward it I went through it. If you have this problem then don't worry. You just have to save, exit and restart the game and the problem should sort itself. — Unsigned comment by 78.111.204.67 (talk) on 22 July 2009

Sounds like a one-off bug. I don't expect this to be widespread. --Elliot(T-C) 06:44, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

Training Dummies[edit]

The article states

If you attack the worshipers excessively, your game may be become unstable due to all the unreported, zero-bounty assaults.

But I wonder, how many times do you have to attack them for the game to become unstable? You can track how many times you have attacked them using the assault statistics in the journal, so far I've hit them around 250 times before getting myself caught by a guard to reset the bounty. But is it possible to hit them more? Like over a 1000 times? I don't like my game getting unstable, though I don't feel like returning every 250 hits. Omnislash449 16:46, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

Wandering Followers[edit]

moved from article: If you hit Er-Teeus too often while he is still in trance, he may suddenly act like a normal NPC and walk around the shrine with his Eyes still closed.

I was unable to replicate this exact behaviour in testing. If I hit someone enough to kill them, they would stand up, but there was no wandering at all. The eyes seemed to be open or closed randomly, even just from re-loading. Robin Hoodtalk 18:36, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Mudcrabs...[edit]

While Peryite was talking to me, a mudcrab appeared near the shrine and started attacking the frozen followers. It was amusing, the mudcrab was trying to kill them but they regenerated health. The mudcrab totally ignored. It was still there when I returned. The followers killed it. :( --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 19:53, 25 December 2010 (UTC)

followers[edit]

in the realm of oblivion i had one of her followers die but all i had to do was search her corpse and it said i saved her and the level went fine (Eddie the head 15:13, 9 January 2011 (UTC))

Peryite evil?[edit]

Why he is included in the 5 troublesome princes? I find he's rather nice in this quest. He wanted to restore order, return his followers, he called his followers's action is prideful and foolish. that's mean he angry but also proud of their actions right? He does care about his followers, just like Azura.117.4.244.176 11:06, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

Adj. 1. prideful - having or showing arrogant superiority to and disdain of those one views as unworthy. Guts-87 02:55, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
In Layman's terms unlike most other Daedric Princes, he views them like we view insects. Just vessels for his diseases that needs to be spread every now and then to maintain the natural order. — Unsigned comment by 24.84.85.33 (talk) at 06:21 on 7 December 2011

Moved notes[edit]

  • The Sightless Grotto contains a boss-level fleshy pod.
  • Next to one of the souls is the single-room Bloodwell tower containing two leveled monsters. At the top of the tower are two wells. A blood well will restore your Health, and a magicka well will refill your Magicka (which is quite handy for players with the Atronach birthsign).

I've been pruning notes from the quest pages. Feel free to re-add these with just cause. --AKB Talk 16:57, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Maren The Seal bug[edit]

Whenever I try to catch her, she detects me, and then she dives in the lava. Now I have no idea where she is and I think she's dead.— Unsigned comment by Leveler (talkcontribs) at 15:55 on 29 December 2012 (GMT)

Maren The Seal bug-Overcome[edit]

I encountered the same problem where Maren The Seal ran into the lava, died and sunk to the bottom. I decided that would not stop me and jumped into the lava, swam out a ways and to the bottom where the dead "spirit" corpse was. And was able to capture the soul and get back to land and finish the quest. Note that I was only able to do so because I was high level with high health and was using many health potions in the process.73.20.66.163 13:51, 17 July 2015 (UTC)Elkrum
