Always seems to be locked...[edit]

Ever since I installed the Battlehorn Castle plugin, there seems to be a glitch of some sort which keeps the Mystic Emporium locked on a Hard lock, night and day. Can anyone else confirm this?

Regards,

Artemis 17:45, 18 October 2007 (EDT)

Yep, seems to be happening to me to, on Xbox 360 with all plugins installed. All that I've done so far is install the plugin; I haven't started to play it at all. It's possible to unlock the door still, at which point is OK to enter (the red door symbol for trespassing disappears), although at 8 pm the door will relock. Also unusual is that once inside, everything in the store can freely be taken without it being considered stealing.
Checking the construction set, the ownership of the cell has been set to "None" whereas without the mod Calindil is the owner. So apparently now that Calindil doesn't own the cell he's not allowed to unlock the front door in the morning any more (normally Calindil's AI package is responsible for unlocking the door). I don't know enough about the mod to have any idea why it would be messing with the ownership of Mystic Emporium... although I'm guessing it's probably a developer mistake. --NepheleTalk 23:46, 19 October 2007 (EDT)
Hey, this is my first post so bear with me. I just decided to install practically all the plugins in one go and I'm 95% sure I installed Fighter's Stronghold first and then had Frostcrag Spire installed and I went to the Mystic Emporium and it wasn't locked or anything. I'm not sure why mine works fine, but I am able to take whatever I want and they don't seem to care. Any comments? — Unsigned comment by Piercethetruth (talkcontribs)
It depends on your load order, not your install order. If Frostcrag is after Battlehorn in your load order, the ownership changes Frostcrag makes to the door of the Mystic Emporium will override the ownership changes Battlehorn makes. However, because Frostcrag doesn't change the ownership of the items inside the Mystic Emporium, you can legally take them.
If you're on the PC, your best bet is to download the Unofficial Official Mods Patch from Baldurdash (and get the UOP and USIP as well if you haven't already), as this fixes both the 'locked door' and 'unowned items' bugs, amongst others.--Gaebrial 02:51, 8 November 2007 (EST)
→I have both the Frostcrag and Battlehorn plugins for Xbox 360. At a little after 10:00 a.m. (Sun's Dusk 4), the door opened. I wouldn't have known, except that Ontus Vanin had been waiting outside for a few days, then disappeared as though he had entered the Emporium. All of the items inside the Emporium are unowned now, as was previously stated, but I never had to pick the lock. Sorry to be anonymous, but I'm having trouble getting the wiki to load reliably. :) 75.70.47.205 19:40, 3 December 2007 (EST)
I'm on the 360 with all official DLC. The door here is always unlocked when I first get out of the sewers, but everything is "public property". --DavehoekstTalk 16:35, 11 April 2008 (EDT)

Just stumbled across this for everyone still having issues. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12745 is a WORKING fix, I too had trouble with the door and used the UOMP to no avail. The fix from that link worked perfectly first time. Just make sure to follow the instructions (have it load AFTER the afflicted plug-ins) I just put mine after all of them. — Unsigned comment by 24.63.122.144 (talk) at 21:23 on 8 April 2011

→Sorry for being anonymous; I don't have a membership here. I just wanted to say that I was having this issue a moment ago. The Mystic Emporium door said 'Open Door to Mystic Emporium [HARD]' and lo and behold, it was unlocked even though it seemed like it was locked at the door symbol was red. So I purchased my illusion spell and left. Turned round, the door was back to normal, was unlocked and the subtitle read as it were unlocked and there wasn't any red door symbol. Try giving that a go and see if it helps! :) 22:55, 11 August 2011 (EDT)

The door becomes permanently locked when you enter the market after visiting Frostcrag Spire if you have `DLCFrostcrag - Unofficial Patch.esp` installed. The bug is introduced by the unofficial patch, and there is no way to uninstall the change it makes. I loaded a game saved just before I first entered the market, and if `DLCFrostcrag - Unofficial Patch.esp` is enabled, the store is locked; if disabled, it's unlocked; if the plugin is disabled after first loading the market area, the door remains locked.

Not locked, but everything is free[edit]

A strange one. On my save (xbox 360), the shop isn't locked, but I am free to pick everything up. On my girlfriend's save, the door is always locked. People have mentioned the load order. What determines the load order, considering that we are both using the same Live profile, just different saves? --195.166.151.212 13:42, 15 January 2008 (EST)

Locked Door[edit]

Okay, so is there a way to change the ownership of the door back to how it's supposed to be? And moreover, would this change be permanent or would you have to re-enter the command every time you load? I hesitate just to install the Unofficial Patch, as I rather enjoy a few of the other bugs' effects. -- 72.52.66.10 05:54, 8 December 2008 (EST)

Notes on the new "page"[edit]

I just added complete in-game descriptions to all three areas of Mystic Emporium. However, these descriptions are based on the game without any of the plug-ins described at the bottom of the page. If any of these (and the inclusion of a new inhabitant) changes any of the interior, please make the necessary additions when doing the CS-check. Krusty 16:53, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

There are a few invisible tweaks (ownership of doors, a new chest for the Tower items, but it's underground so can't be accessed) but the only major change is the one I just added - a bed and the chest moves. –rpehTCE 17:44, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Xbox 360 Mystic Emporium Locked Door Bug Work Around[edit]

Temporary Workaround: I found that if the door was locked during business hours, I would save game then quit to the Main Menu, re-load the game and wait 1 hour. The door would then be unlocked. ComaDivine 04:53, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

The temporary workaround bugs the stealing inside the store so all items laying around are there to take without bounty. I'm not sure if this works with the permanent workaround though your welcome to edit this and tell me if you can. 71.184.121.114 17:22, 10 February 2010 (UTC)Assassinator971

You can also try this (lengthier, but permanent) workaround: 65.101.17.129 04:04, 20 December 2009 (UTC)KTempesT

This work around assumes:

  • The Fighter's Stronghold official plug-in is installed on a hard drive.
  • You have a removable memory unit available.
  • You know how to move files on the Xbox 360.
  • You have not done anything with the Fighter's Stronghold quests or area.

Do the following steps:

  1. Move the Fighter's Stronghold official plug-in file to a memory unit.
  2. Remove the memory unit.
  3. Start the game. You may get a message about content not being availible. Ignore it.
  4. If your character is in the Imperial City's Market District, move your character to another area.
  5. Wait 73 games hours.
  6. Travel to Mystic Emporium so that your character is there between 8 am and 8 pm game time.
  7. Enter the Mystic Emporium. The door should be unlocked now.
  8. Go upstairs to the private quarters.
  9. Unlock the private quarter doors. This lock may be leveled. My character was at level 1 and the lock was Very Easy.
  10. Exit the private quarters.
  11. Exit the Mystic Emporium.
  12. Save your game. Exiting the Mystic Emporium may do an auto-save.
  13. Quit the game.
  14. Insert the memory unit.
  15. Move the Fighter's Stronghold official plug-in file to the hard drive.
  16. Restart the game.

When you restart the game you will get the first Fighter's Stronghold quest message.

This work around will not fix all parts of the bug. It will just allow you to get into the Mystic Emporium without requiring you to unlock the frount door during normal business hours. It may have to be done for every character you are playing.

As mentioned previously in other sections of this page, sometimes the door is unlocked without using this workaround. I got it to be unlocked some times by moving the Fighter's Stronghold official plug-in file around without taking it off line, but I was not able to make it a repeatable process. I suspect the door being locked depends on the order in which the Battlehorn Castle and Frostcrag Spire plug-ins are loaded. On the Xbox 360, there is no way to directly set the order the plug-ins are loaded. It may be random, but more likely it depends on where the plug-in files are located, your Xbox 360 profile is located and which save file is loaded. As I stated, I could not find a process where the door is always unlocked without taking the Fighter's Stronghold official plug-in offline first and then unlocking the private quarters door.

This work around has only been tested on a character who never visited the Fighter's Stronghold although the Fighter's Stronghold plug-in was installed when the character was created and finished the tutorial quest.

(Guest)i found a alternate path that gets rid of bug and takes a minute really simple all you must do is steal the key from one of the owners dont get caught the woman is pretty blind just saying lol after u got the key go in store wait 13hours

and have a friendly chat with owners doesnt matter what its about then walk out of door the mystic door should be unlocked forever now — Unsigned comment by 74.229.128.206 (talk) on 1 June 2010

I have confirmed that the above method does fix this glitch permanently. As although one would think that after acquiring the key you would have to unlock the door every time you wished to enter. This does not seem to be the case and that just stealing the key resets the shop and solves the conflict that normally would cause the glitch. No bounty is also placed on your head for entering the shop outside of its normal times due to this glitch even after it has been reset. No side-effects have been found doing this either. (Darkcaptain3 17:39, 9 October 2010 (UTC))

(Guest 2) I also seemed to have fixed the glitch this way. I stole the key the just so I wouldn't have to keep unlocking it, but it seems to have fixed the glitch entirely. I stole it from Calindil, who presumably locks the door at night. Perhaps without the key he can't do that? (PC player please verify that this a parameter necessary to lock a door)

Actually... I don't know if this has happened to anyone else before on the 360, but I was able to take the items without anything to do with any plugin... as if they were loot... (Cookies... lots and lots of cookies!!! 03:58, 24 September 2011 (UTC))

UOMP doesn't fix the bug?[edit]

Hey everyone. I too have run into the rather annoying glitch where the door to the Mystic Emporium is always locked, with that poor retired guy in the white mage robes hanging around out front constantly (I'm not sure how to spell his name, blush). I have both Frostcrag and Battlehorn installed, obviously, but I also have the Unofficial Official Mod Patch and it doesn't seem to be fixing the problem. I tried swapping my load order with OBMM but the door's still locked regardless of whether Frostcrag or Battlehorn loads first.

It's becoming an issue because I'm a realism\immersion player and I'm using the Living Economy mod, so there's pretty much no where else in the IC I can go to sell useless magic loot. For some reason Edgar of Discount Spells fame isn't selling items in his shop, only spells... not sure if that's due to a glitch, one of the mods I have installed, or if it's normal for the PC game -- I used to be a PS3 player, just started the PC version recently, and in my other game on the PS3, Edgar is definitely selling (and buying) magic paraphernalia along with spells. In the PC game he doesn't have a normal merchant barter menu where I can select my own inventory and sell him stuff; he's only got the buy-spells menu.

Anyway, aside from my Edgar issues, any advice on getting the damn Mystic Emporium open? It's gonna be awhile before I can pick hard locks. I have no idea why the Unofficial Official Patch isn't fixing this... it's definitely loaded and activated, I've checked several times whilst scratching my head. Do I have an outdated version of the UOMP or something?

Failing all else, is there a console command I can use to unlock the door, even temporarily?

Try this console code click on the door and type "unlock" — Unsigned comment by 174.22.172.22 (talk) on 9 December 2009

[ Mystic Emporium door locked during business hours ][edit]

The best way I think around this bug, was to just pick-pocket a key off one of them - problem solved .— Unsigned comment by 174.148.207.148 (talk) on 15 January 2010

Or you could simply unlock it once, and it stayed unlocked forever. (in my experiance)--Arch-Mage Matt 03:50, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

I find it's locked every time I go back, unless I've already unlocked it that day. I just sneak and pick it when no one is watching. Snorkel.maiden 15:47, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

The only way the shop's openning hours return to normal (without having the door locked over and over again) is to unlock the door upstairs. That way the shop's services hours return to normal, but even so, Calindil will lock it again at 8pm, when he's supposed to close. --S'drassa T2M 01:37, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

I have found an interesting way to get into the ME without having to pick the lock. I was just messing around, and with a bit of luck I found out a way around it for the first time. There is a small bandit camp just north of the North Sewers Gate. Rest until it is Tirdas 8:00am. Go there and kill the two bandits and their wolf pet. Now fast travel to the Market District, and sprint to the ME. The mage who usually stands outside of the store will be gone, and the door will be unlocked. I have tried it several times, and on four different characters and worked on each one. You may steal the key once inside. Pr0jctsh4d0wi0n

Bug Section Wrong?[edit]

I've got both frostcrag and battlehorn plugins and by an accident when i first installed them frostcrag was after Battlehorn on the load list and i never expirianced this bug so curious about the comment on this page i used OMM to swap the load orders and sure enough the bug appeared. However as soon as i swapped them back around the buig vanished. I didn't even expiriance the perma loked door issue that the bugs section says i should. Furthermore a look through the CS suggests that putting Frostcrag last in the load order SHOULD completly fix the issue (assumming this opage is correct and the ownership change is the sole cuase), since Frostcrag also changes the shops ownership and thus frostcrag if placed last will overide Battlehorn and change the ownership to the normal frostcrag one. Has any9ne else expirianced this and can anyone confirm the behaviour described in the bugs section as it seemt o me at least that that behaviour should be impossibble without an outside mod interfering.— Unsigned comment by 80.225.72.186 (talk) on 22 January 2010

I can. I play on the xbox and every time I start a new game this bug always appears. It is probably caused by problem you described in the load order, but since you cannot swap them on the xbox (at least not that I know), then this bug always occurs. --S'drassa T2M 01:33, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

Is this even true?[edit]

moved from article
Im not sure --Arny 20:59, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
It's not because of SI, but rather because of Fighter's Stronghold, and is already covered in detail under Bugs. --NepheleTalk 16:04, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

The spire wont even open...[edit]

I bought all the items for the spire, every single one, it even said so in my quest journal. It told me to travel there and I did. However when I went inside the spire, however, the main revolving stone door never opened. This is my 3rd time playing through the game with the spire and this has never happened before. To make things WORSE, I went back and attempted to resell the items for the spire to the women (Her name is to complex for me to remember at the moment)so I could re-buy them and maybe then the spire door would open. However that made the things disappear. Now I not only dont have any of the items for the spire in my inventory but the door still wont open... Help... Oh yeah and this is for the 360 so consol commands wont work... — Unsigned comment by 69.205.243.154 (talk) at 01:01 on 29 August 2010

That happened to me once too on the PC. The only solution I ever found was to reload from prior to entering Frostcrag. Robin Hoodtalk 16:55, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
  • If you move the Wizard's Tower content off of your hard drive, load your save and ignore the warning about missing content then save the game and put the dlc back on your hard drive and load up the game again - your game should reset both the contents of the Tower and Aurelinwae's (sp?) inventory of Frostrcrag upgrades.

"Mod load order" bug disproven?[edit]

Not sure what to make of this, but I seem to be suffering from the mod load order bug described in the article. Mystic Emporium is always locked, and Aurelinwae won't sell me anything. However, not only did I buy Frostcrag Spire LONG before I bought Battlehorn Castle, no other character of mine has ever experienced this bug before. Anyone know what's up with this?   -- Moses 01:04, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Also, come to think of it, this happened to me MID GAME (or between saves or whatever), because I successfully bought the two Magetallow Candles (The shop was still locked though, I believe), but now I can't buy anything else (She doesn't even have the barter option).   -- Moses 01:06, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
Argh, I waited until 8AM and now I can buy stuff from her again. I checked the ingame time as I was trying to buy from her before, it was 6PM. According to her article, Aurelinwae offers her services from 8AM-8PM. This, combined with the fact that she offered the "Buy Spell" option but not the "Barter" option led me to believe she wouldn't barter at all. However, something is still screwy here, both in my game and possibly on the Aurelinwae page (with her listed 8-8 schedule).   -- Moses 01:13, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
Her schedule is very simple, so I'm not sure why it would do what you're describing. It's probably just a one-off glitch, though we've seen some odd behaviour from NPCs when they're moving from one place to another, so it might be something like that. If she was moving, see if the problem still manifests once she stops. If that's not it, I don't know what to tell you. If you're on a PC and you wanna send me your saved game, I can have a look at it - just send me an e-mail and I'll reply from my real address so you can send an attachment. Robin Hoodtalk 02:32, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
Sadly, I'm on the 360, and she wasn't moving. Oh well. I was unaware that there were one-of type unreproducable glitches in this game. That's kind of disappointing :/   -- Moses 02:37, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, there are a lot of one-off glitches. It's not definite that that's what's happening here, but I can't think of anything that would cause the barter menu to disappear while still leaving the spell menu in place. Robin Hoodtalk 03:09, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
Actually, this is a glitch that I have permanently with the characters in Deepscorn Hollow. If they are not in a proper spot in a proper orientation, then I am unable to barter with them. It's hard to say if it was the result of me messing around with the console and the characters back when I first installed it, but either way this glitch definitely isn't a one-time thing. --173.181.104.160 10:09, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

No greetings[edit]

The door is lock, the characters inside the shop no have greetings (I Don't Have Greetings) and i can't buy nothing, how can i fix this bug? (PC) --Fargothur666 02:55, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

I found a way that fixed mine. I simply bought another Plug in. The old man with the white robe has gone and the shop is not locked any more. Hope this helps guys. — Unsigned comment by LordBreton (talkcontribs) at 22:32 on 20 December 2010

CS Solution[edit]

(originally posted in #Always seems to be locked... above)

Hello, I found this section and I found a fix. Simply open up your construction set and open the data file Battlehorn Castle and nothing else. Then, go to the Mystic Emporium Cell it will look kind of like ICMysticEmporium. Change the owner to Calindil same with the Quarters of the Mystic Emporium and the basement. Save and your done. If the store is still locked, Simply lock pick the door open AND the quarters, leave the place and your done. Now Only do this if my first solution did not work. My first solution however, Does make it so you cant randomly steal the shops items and not get punished so do my first solution first then on top of that do my second solution if my first solution alone wont do it. — Unsigned comment by 72.185.51.184 (talk) on 6 February 2011

Fix For The Locked Door Glitch (360)[edit]

To get rid of this glitch, i simply deleted battlehorn castle, and then re-installed it. I've tried many times installing battlehorn castle first and it always creates this glitch. With the spire installed first, the glitch wont show up. — Unsigned comment by 184.13.212.201 (talk) at 19:02 on 8 September 2011 (GMT)

I suspect this has something to do with changing the load order, as mentioned on the article. Looking at the bugs section, it's in need of some serious cleanup. --Legoless 20:28, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

Always get thrown out of store[edit]

I was handling the situation with the permanently locked door by unlocking it in the console, but after doing that for a while, the two people inside there decided they hated me! I am treated as a trespasser, and they both attack me very quickly, even during business hours. This of course makes the store impossible to use. Oddly, when I meet either one of them outside the store, for instance in the Merchant's Inn, they are friendly as usual. All official DLC and plug-ins installed; playing on PC. 174.6.51.17 07:56, 12 February 2013 (GMT)

Got in but barter option still not present - Solution[edit]

If you've gotten in to the shop and they still won't offer the barter option, make sure the merchants are down stairs. I personally had to push the woman down the stairs in order to buy parts for the add-on. — Unsigned comment by 68.62.142.20 (talk) at 20:04 on 15 March 2013

Reversion[edit]

I've reverted this, because the mod clearly works for some unless the patch notes have specifically removed this fix or something. —Legoless (talk) 18:14, 18 May 2016 (UTC)

You can see from this link that issue still persists and I have yet to see latest patch work with the dlc.

uop lock bug fix[edit]

I don't know if anybody knows this, but I believe I have figured out why the uomp for frostcraig might not work for some people. First off, I have all dlcs and the uop fixes to patch them and uop for vanilla. I also clean all of the dlcs with tes4edit. I still had the locked door bug. I made sure frostcraig, the dlc and the uop for it, loaded after battlehorn and I still had the bug. I even looked at all 4 files (battlehorn, frostcraig and their respective uops) in the construction set. I didn't see any reason it shouldn't be fixed. then I looked at my load order one more time and realized the uop (for the vanilla game) was loaded after frostcraig (the dlc, not the uop) so I thought that that maybe uop (vanilla) fixed something in mystic emporium as well. I open uop in construction set and looked at the cell, and it did. uop(vanilla) makes the sames changes to the cell as the uop for frostcraig does. But uop(vanilla) has ownership set to Calindil instead of the Mystic Emporium faction, causing the same problem with battlehorn. So I moved the frostcraig dlc after uop(vanilla) in my load order. I tested ingame and now the shop is open from 8 to 8 like it should be. I use wyre bash by the by.

So I have my load order as:

                           UOP (vanilla)
                           dlc battlehorn
                           dlc battlehorn uop
                           dlc frostcraig
                           dlc frostcraig uop

With the load order for those ESPs, the Mystic Emporium is longer locked 24/7. I hope this helps. — Unsigned comment by 24.15.101.79 (talk) at 12:17 on 22 February 2017

How I fixed the locked door bug[edit]

I tried every other fix. I changed my load order to put frostcraig over battlehorn, I have all the UOPs installed, I tried the "Mystic Emporium Patch" mod, as well as the "Mystic Emporium Fix for OCO" mod and nothing worked.

This mod FINALLY did get rid of the bug: https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/46001/?tab=posts

Some details: I'm using all the DLCs, as well as Oblivion Character Overhaul 2.0.

My load order is roughly:

- All DLCs with Frostcraig above Battlehorn

- All Unofficial Patches EXCEPT Frostcraig and Battlehorn

- All other mods

- UOP Frostcraig, then UOP Battlehorn (Which were supposed to fix this bug)

- Oblivion Character Overhaul

- All OCO compatibility patches

- The OCO Mystic Emporium Patch (which was supposed to fix this bug)

- This mod, "Mystic Emporium Fix", is very last in my load order and FINALLY fixes this bug.
