Dealing with level-ups...[edit]

As I understand it, this quest requires you to sleep twice in order to activate and finish it... can anybody please tell me how to safely circumvent this? Cuz as it stands, my character is more or less perfect (strong-but-not-overpowered) and I don't want to throw him off balance. Thanks. :) --86.31.175.118 12:58, 24 May 2007 (EDT)

The best way would be to not do the quest when you're close to levelling. This is a side quest; there's no reason to do it when/if you don't feel like it. (Similarly, it's probably a good idea to cure yourself of Porphyric Hemophilia before attempting this quest.) DisplacedAvenger 13:28, 24 May 2007 (EDT)

Loot 'n' junk[edit]

Removed reference to random loot obtained -- it's all level dependent and random apart from certain special items. Endareth 22:37, 28 March 2006 (EST)

Ah, I suspected as such. Thanks for cleaning it up! -- Zoogie 16:37, 29 Mar 2006 (EST)
Has anyone tried waterwalking/swimming off the ship? -- Ryvaken 1:29, 6 Apr 2006 (EST)
I suspect that there is no way of getting off the ship, doors locked requiring keys etc. Endareth 01:34, 6 April 2006 (EDT)
If I ever get back there I'm going to try running off the top deck, where the third enemy is. I expect it won't get me anywhere, but if I was going to plop an easteregg somewhere that would definatly be one of my first choices. -- Ryvaken 1:37, 6 Apr 2006 (EST)
Tried running of the ship to resolve a game-crash while/after resting at the end of the quest, but to no avail. Could neither jump of the front nor rear part of the top deck, there seem to be walls around the ship. (Though I did not (yet) check how high they are, or if there is a ceiling.) If anyone knows a way of, it would be most welcome... -- Alexander 14:00, 3 August 2006 (EDT)
To answer your question, there is a ceiling. i tried many times to get out at different places of the ship and unless i missed something, there is no way off — Unsigned comment by July 2007‎ 71.170.219.95 (talk) at 01:57 on 5

Elven Maiden in 1.2[edit]

I just had the two of these active with no crash on v1.2. I'd stolen the bust and was waiting for Methredhel to appear and started this quest. I completed it and as soon as the ship was back at the dock, Methredhel appeared telling me about Armand's arrest. Looks like they have fixed the problem in 1.2. Rpeh 06:52, 18 June 2007 (EDT)

Starting the quest[edit]

The walkthrough states:

  • note that sleeping 1 hour in the middle of the day doesn't seem to trigger this quest

I believe that the quest only triggers if you sleep for at least one hour during the night. For the purposes of this quest, I believe 'night' starts at either 9 or 10 pm. I rented the room with the intention of doing this quest, and slept for one hour from about 8:30 pm, and the quest didn't start. Sleeping for another hour (from about 9:30 pm) triggered the quest. Can anybody confirm the exact times during which the quest will start? --Gaebrial 06:36, 17 August 2007 (EDT)

I can't see anything in the script for this quest that seems to make it depend upon time of day. The script just checks to see whether the player is sleeping and whether the player is inside the Bloated Float. Also, my memory is that I did this quest during the day, although it was a while ago so I can't be completely sure. --NepheleTalk 11:30, 17 August 2007 (EDT)
I tried sleeping for one hour at 11:59pm to start the quest. That didn't work. I then slept for 4 hours. That triggered the quest. Maybe the second time you sleep at the Bloated Float Inn the quest start? 68.147.67.250 21:21, 12 January 2008 (EST)
I'm going to try, but maybe it won't start with actors (excluding Ormil, Grahm, & the player) in the Bloated Float.--Puddle 16:44, 9 April 2008 (EDT)
I've already investigated it, hence the first note on the article. –RpehTCE 17:00, 9 April 2008 (EDT)

Quite the case of Stockholm Syndrome...[edit]

Just thought I should point out, Ormil defends Selene. If you attack her first in any case, he'll jump on you as well. I left the room at one point after she attacked me, came back in, and struck her, and Ormil attacked me. Same thing happened when I tried to kill her after she surrendered her blade. --Kingfausto 13:51, 23 September 2007 (EDT)

Alright then, I've added that to the Notes section. It is important enough to warrant a notice. Also, don't hesitate to edit pages if you feel that your information is worth mentioning, as this little tidbit was. SubtleCynicism 14:10, 23 September 2007 (EDT)

That was my loot![edit]

Brand new to this wiki, so I didn't want to do any rash editing. The first two items under Notes for this quest are useful, but they don't point out a fact that caused me great consternation. Although you can indeed leave all your spoils lying on the ground to pick up later, if you wait until after you receive your reward from Ormil, they will all suddenly be marked as stolen property. I'm not sure if this is a side effect of completing the quest, or simply of the room rental expiring.

The upshot is that if you have more loot than you can carry at once (quite plausible if you're low-level or began the quest by accident), you only have a brief window (after sleeping the second time but before talking to Ormil and ending the quest) that you can transport it off the ship without it becoming hot. But I didn't want to add this to the article if it might be considered obvious because of the behavior of inns, or if it turned out I was doing something wrong. I did see this while running a game with Oscuro's Overhaul, so it may not even exist in an unmodified game. Feedback? --TheNicestGuy 10:09, 5 December 2007 (EST)

I've done this quest with OOO running, and I was able to retrieve my loot without problem. However, I always store my loot on the bottom level - just outside the room door. I don't know if that makes a difference.
In addition, the UOP changes a few ownership issues with the Bloated Float, as in vanilla Oblivion, you are free to take more or less all of the items from all of the levels of the boat at any time. The fix makes everything owned by Ormil, except during the quest. I guess that it adds/removes ownership to the cell itself, thus making anything in the cell 'owned'.
--Gaebrial 10:15, 5 December 2007 (EST)
Then it's probably the UOP that's causing the problem. I've got another character running without the UOP who's currently in the middle of this quest, so I should be able to test that soon. Awfully annoying side effect, whatever causes it. Am I wrong, or would that basically mean the author of the patch took a sloppy shortcut rather than going to the trouble to set ownership just on the items that logically belong to the inn or to paying customers? --TheNicestGuy 11:17, 5 December 2007 (EST)

Is that right?[edit]

I seriously doubt the recent addition to this page saying you can trigger the glitch by picking up certain items and talking to everyone, could someone confirm that? Volanaro 13:44, 1 February 2008 (EST)

This is is the sentence in question:
It will work, however, if you trigger a glitch in the game by drinking/taking all the drinks in the restaurant and talking to everyone.
I agree with Volanaro and therefore moved it here from the main article. How is taking all of the drinks or talking to everyone supposed to be a glitch? --NepheleTalk 16:34, 1 February 2008 (EST)
Considering the amount of time it could take to do this, it may be that the amount of time taken to pick up all the bottles and then go round talking to everyone could mean that the time is past midday by the time you get round to starting the quest. Volanaro 06:39, 10 March 2008 (EDT)

Bug?[edit]

Moved here from the bugs section of the main article:

It is possible that the Orc bouncer Graman gro-Marad wil not apppear preventing one from getting him to sail the ship back to the Waterfront; this glitch has not been fixed with the v.1.1.511 patch. To solve this problem one can continue through the quest without going to the Orc bouncer.

I don't exactly see what is supposed to be a bug here. It sounds like just a misunderstanding about what is supposed to happen during the quest. Especially since the bug is fixed by just doing the quest as usual. If there are tweaks that need to be made to the quest walkthrough to prevent misunderstanding, then the walkthrough should be edited. But the bugs section should be reserved for real problems that can occur while doing the quest, i.e. problems that don't get fixed simply by completing the quest as usual. --NepheleTalk 16:22, 1 February 2008 (EST)

i killed graman gro-marad before i did this quest and cause i did this quest before he gets locked in the storage room and he bangs on the door but this time when i killed him the door still made the banging sound and when i opened the door no one was there o.o is that a bug? — Unsigned comment by 71.143.152.235 (talk)

Niben River Accessibility?[edit]

As part of one of my first edits to UESP, I posted a note that the Bloated Float cannot actually get in/out of the Niben. I was told that it was an "Irrelevant piece of information that is probably incorrect" but as per your own article on the Niben, "Leyawiin completely blocks the river."

Was I out of place adding this edit? I think it's an interesting piece of information that should be noted on more than just the Niben River page. --DavehoekstTalk 22:32, 31 March 2008 (EST)

The Article: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Niben_River#Lower_Niben

LOL, I love this - you are happy to accept elves, magic, walking skeletons etc., but worry about a some "realistic" aspect of the world. How does this sound. Boats use a levitation spell to get over obstacles and out to sea. The End. — Unsigned comment by 203.206.107.195 (talk) on 29 May 2009
I agree with Davehoekst, it doesn't make sense that ships are able to get to the waterfront via Leyawiin. Although, it might make more sense for this to be on the Waterfront page, rather than here. --Weeman5872 16:47, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Selene Surrendering[edit]

(moved from the article)
  • It is also possible to get Selene to surrender before killing anyone. Using a Staff or Spell of Paralyzation, you can disable and pickpocket the keys off Lynch, Minx, and (if you are quick) Wraith. However, until all three are dead, the Ormil conversation dialog will not allow you to go back to sleep to return the boat to dock.

I've moved this because I don't think it adds anything. It's an interesting quirk, but since you can't complete the quest this way I don't think it should appear on the main page. –RpehTCE 04:11, 10 June 2008 (EDT)

It's also very similar to the second bug listed on the page. --Gaebrial 05:31, 10 June 2008 (EDT)

Bravil Safehouse?[edit]

is there actually a safehouse in bravil for the black water brigands? — Unsigned comment by LuciusZelgius (talkcontribs) on 9 November 2008

No. As least, not one that appears in-game. –RpehTCE 08:28, 9 November 2008 (EST)

Moved from the Article[edit]

  • It is possible to start this quest while being pursued by guards, when you wake up you will be confronted, and if you pay the fine, or go to jail the image of the inn will be where it usually is, but you will not be able to enter.
This is fine until the last part... "the image of the inn will be where it usually is, but you will not be able to enter." - what on earth does that mean? –RpehTCE 02:40, 23 March 2009 (EDT)
Maybe they're trying to say that a 3-D replica of the bloated float will be where the float was originally stationed, but its more for aesthetic purposes and can't be accessed. Rather like the buildings of a town if you manage to scale a cities walls from the outside in? 75.45.166.120 09:49, 8 April 2009 (EDT)
I suspect it just means the model is there, but you can't enter it as, logically from the game perspective, you are on the boat, (obviously an overlooked possibility). Maybe it is meant to stop NPCs from "boarding". — Unsigned comment by 203.206.107.195 (talk) at 18:25 on 29 May 2009

Regarding the bug involving Hieronymous and Servatius[edit]

As mentioned in the article, Servatius Quinitilius appears prematurely after the completion of the quest, and walks around together with Hieronymous Lex. Is there any fixes? The article says: "Finishing this quest MAY cause Servatius Quintilius to show up prematurely, due to a bug in scripting." So does this mean it doesn't have to happen? If there's any fixes? Is there any disadvantages, or is the problem about tolerating Servatius' existence? I don't think reloading would fix anything, I've tried several times, from the middle of the quest. After I've completed it, I go to see Hieronymous but he's always accompanied by Servatius. I always complete the quest in the morning and wait at the Waterfront until 7 pm when Hiernymous is there, so it seems it's permanent. Thanks in advance! Hostile waterfront pirates - Marie Elena[edit]

Are the pirates on the Marie Elena meant to become hostile? When I left the ship the pirates milling around the Marie Elena attacked me on sight. I suppose it would make sense if the Blackwater Brigands were part of the same faction, but unless my game is bugged, I would have thought it was worth noting. Using Unofficial Oblivion Patch 3.0.0. — Unsigned comment by 203.206.107.195 (talk) at 18:50 on 29 May 2009

They becomes hostile when you get to close to their ship. Unrelated to the Blackwater Brigands as fair as I know. - User:Aces Andre 15:57, 29 May 2009 (EDT)
They mention it when you talk to them. They tell you not to get too close to their ship. I advise you heed the warning ;) --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 16:07, 29 May 2009 (EDT)

Bouncer likes to play games[edit]

Well, I killed Lynch and opened up the door. The knocking stopped then, but the bouncer is no where to be found. If it matters, I had to complete the dreamworld quest with console commands so I could do this. My game crashes when I enter the dreamworld which I why I did it.— Unsigned comment by 97.122.222.250 (talk) at 02:49 on 20 September 2009 (UTC)

I'm having the same issue.Does it affect the quest at all? — Unsigned comment by 99.169.92.165 (talk) at 19:42 on 31 December 2010

Sorta a bug[edit]

When Ormil says to go to rest near the end, if you wait until the bed you rented at the start of the quest would no longer be yours, The room is not yours any longer and you have to rent it again. — Unsigned comment by 89.107.3.252 (talk) at 17:00 on 14 October 2010

That sounds like the behaviour I'd expect, so I don't think it constitutes a bug. Robin Hoodtalk 02:52, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

Vampires?[edit]

As I slept below deck on the Bloated Float to begin the quest, I awoke having been bitten and thus turned into a vampire...is this supposed to have happened? — Unsigned comment by 99.73.75.68 (talk) on 1 November 2010

You must already have been suffering from Porphyric Hemophilia. rpeh •TCE 07:18, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Rest Crash[edit]

I defeated every one, and negotiated with Selene and locked her up. I spoke to Ormil and he told me to go and rest. I went to my cabin but every time I try to rest when the "clock" finishes his countdown the game crashes with the message: "Oblivion.exe has stopped working." — Unsigned comment by 92.36.149.250 (talk) at 11:46 on 14 January 2011

I'm having the same problem and can't find a solution online. I run See You Sleep, Vilja, and CM Partners, all of which affect the Bloated Float (and sleeping) but I've found posts that said the quest was completable with those mods installed. — Unsigned comment by 98.228.55.179 (talk) at 07:39 on 31 August 2011

Ormil death glitch?[edit]

So, when i went to the bloated float on my random killing character, i rented a room, then killed ormil. i went to sleep and did the quest all the way up to selene. ormil was not in there, so when i killed selene, and invisible(not chameleon, he was completely invisible, like js'kar) and it was weird. in the bugs section, it says the quest will be impossible to complete but in fact, everything after that was normal, except ormil was invisible until the room reloaded after 3 days.76.250.8.243 20:49, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Under siege movie[edit]

I found this on the Easter eggs page: "During the quest An Unexpected Voyage, your character is given the opportunity to claim, unsuccessfully, to be the ship's cook, mimicking dialogue from the Steven Seagal movie Under Siege." RIM 18:36, 16 September 2011 (UTC)

1. Bug 2. TWO Blackwater Blades[edit]

So I experienced a bug with this quest, and didn't have a save to reload to fix it. When I escorted a surrendering Selene to her room (the one next to mine), she wouldn't get in, no matter what I tried. So I decided to fix my problems with violence, and I was surprised when she pulled out a sword, because she'd already given it to me! When she died I looted a second Blackwater Blade she had spawned, just for our fight. Aww. Thought that was interesting, though I don't have the confidence to edit the main page, yknow? 73.214.92.58 00:27, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
