Why is Telvas ticked as Steward candidate?[edit]
I do not know why Talvas was ticked as Steward candidate for Hearthfire (as well as all the other Dunmer followers from Dragonborn) I have been trying all night to get them to work with no results. Does anybody know what issue is here? Are the voice files there and we just need a patch or what?— Unsigned comment by 24.214.174.253 (talk) at 10:30 on 20 January 2013
- There are three pages where this is added. He can be added as a Steward, it's the conditions under how this is available that need found. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 00:06, 23 January 2013 (GMT)

- On my current playthrough, I've advanced to being a member of House Telvanni and he's my steward. Probably you do not need to go the whole way along the Telvanni questline to make him a steward, but it seems to be sufficient at least. --Morrolan (talk) 21:03, 23 January 2013 (GMT)
- I think he's the only elf race steward possible. If so, this should be placed on the main page under notes or something.Vainamoinen -Talk -Stuff 22:49, 24 August 2015 (UTC)

What triggers him to sell the new spells?[edit]
I've seen other people saying that he sells all of the new spells regardless of your level or skills, provided the requisite quests have been completed. Well I've done all of them, and the only new spells he's got are Bound Dagger and Conjure Ash Guardian. I've traveled all over the place numerous times to allow his inventory to reset, and he still only sells those two (plus a bunch of vanilla spells). I get Bound Dagger - it's the only new Novice-level spell there is. Ash Guardian is Expert-level, however, so I'm surprised not to see anything in between. According to the info currently on Skyrim:Spells#Dragonborn, there's 5 more spells I should be seeing, but I'm not. I'll try later with my higher-level character who's maxed all the magic skills... - I believe that in addition to having completed the required quest, your relevant magic skill must be at the right level for the tomes to appear (as with other spell tomes), which I think is 40 for Adept and 65 for Expert. --Enodoc (talk) 14:45, 21 April 2013 (GMT)
Training bug[edit]
This has been marked as a question that needs to be answered. |
When he was my follower he stopped offering me training unless we were at Tel Mithryn after I advanced with the Dragonborn questline Frostmere (talk) 12:37, 5 July 2013 (GMT)
- Stopped training for me, when I left Tel Mythrin, period. — Unsigned comment by Benadrit (talk • contribs) at 15:06 on 10 July 2015 (UTC)

- Talvas is the only trainer/merchant/follower in the game, which appears to cause a difficulty. Obviously as a merchant he needs his merchant chest and moving too far away prevents him from trading. However, all other trainer/followers can train wherever, but Talvas cannot. Why he cannot is a question that should be answered. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 21:18, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

- Talvas has the Pillar building script and a script for selling Whirlwind Cloak and Ash Guardian; as well as vendor, pillar worker, follower and trainer faction memberships. He should automatically stop being a vendor when he is too far from his vendor chest. I don't see anything "suspicious" in the CK, but I wonder about the Pillar Script because it simply checks to see if the nearest pillar is destroyed and if so removes him from the pillar worker faction: I wonder if it unintentionally messes with being a trainer by removing him from the trainer faction? It is only my guess as I have never had the issue. --Anubis Priest (talk) 03:29, 24 July 2018 (UTC)

Master Neloth was a female[edit]
During the Reluctant Steward quest, Talvas can be heard saying: "Find a new steward for us quickly, Master Neloth is making me do all her work". Apparently, some other dialog that was cut, also hints at Neloth being female during development, but this line seem to have slipped through. — Unsigned comment by Aezay (talk • contribs) at 16:23 on 28 July 2013 (GMT)
- It seems to me that when Talvas says her, he is referring to the steward, not Master Neloth. GodRaineTalk 16:34, 28 July 2013 (GMT)
Follower/Mechant/Trainer[edit]
Though Talvas fulfills all these roles, he seems to do a poor job of multitasking. He only trains and sells whilst in the proximity of Tel Mithryn, but, it seems that even when in the proximity of Tel Mithryn, as a follower he cannot sell, with the relevant window instead showing his inventory, as if you were to trade with him. However, dismissing him did not seem to instantly fix his merchant screen, nor did waiting for his stock to reset, I was only able to fix this by recruiting another follower altogether, and then visiting him. (All on Xbox) MadAndyD (talk) 13:19, 2 August 2013 (GMT)
- I had to dismiss my current follower, ask Talvas to follow me, ask him to exchange things with me, take away all the nifty equipment/weapons, etc, that I had provided to him while a follower. I dismissed him as a follower, then got back my other follower who had made her way out of the "building". This did not instantly reset his vendor inventory so I tried the game glitch to quick save (on the xb360 by pressing Wait, A for OK, then hold B down to cancel out of the wait), then assault him with flames until a crime was declared, then load the just done quick save. This also did not work. He still had an empty inventory since he had not properly switched back to his merchant / vendor hidden chest. I talked to and gave the Wind and Sand book that I had retrieved on a quest to Neloth who specifically told me that a whirlwind vortex spell would soon be for sale from Talvas.
- I found that after all of the above, I waited 2 x 24 hours or a bit more outside the front door of Tel Mithryn then re-entered to see what he had for sale--SUCCESS--he had the spell tomes that I had wanted to purchase--the Ash Rune alteration spell, and the Cyclone / whirlwind cloak destruction spell. 198.91.176.251 05:10, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
If you make him a steward early he won't give you the ash guardian spell[edit]
I don't know exactly what I did wrong, but I decided to make him a steward on one playthrough and he won't continue his dialogue with the ash guardian and offer the spell as a reward.174.130.36.62 16:59, 5 October 2013 (GMT)
- As the article mentions in the notes, making him a steward messes up his possible services. His quest being ruined as well also makes sense. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 17:13, 5 October 2013 (GMT)
Talvas dies when follower[edit]
Talvas dies as a follower before the ash cloak tome becomes available, now i cannot find it. — Unsigned comment by 2.122.153.242 (talk) on 15:57 2 January 2014
- I'm not sure what spell tome you are referring to, no spell called Ash Cloak exists. Assuming you are referring to Whirlwind Cloak, there's no way to get it if Talvas is dead without console commands. --AN|L (talk) 16:09, 2 January 2014 (GMT)
Talvas disappeared in White Ridge Barrow?[edit]
Talvas Fathryon disappeared on my game, making me unable to get all his unique spells like whirlwind cloak, summon ash spawn, et.cetera. I had him as my follower, and went into White Ridge Barrow. After I got all the way through the barrow and fought with Dukaan, cleared the dungeon and got the Black Book, blah blah blah. After I finished the fight with Dukaan, I realized that Talvas wasn't there. I waited, left the dungeon, came back, fast traveled, went to Tel Mithryn, and can't find him. I didn't find his body in the dungeon when I went back through it, so I'm assuming he didn't die. I guess I want to know if he has a bug on him, or if it is White Ridge Barrow that is bugged, because on a different file I also lost a follower temporarily, but got them back. — Unsigned comment by 50.52.3.209 (talk) at 03:50 on 7 September 2014 (GMT)
- This happened to me with teldryn sero. After waiting around for days, checking where he usually sits when not a follower, I went back to the dungeon and found him as an ash pile. Perhaps the same thing happened with talvas? — Unsigned comment by 95.148.146.5 (talk) at 14:19 on 5 July 2015 (UTC)
