Livestock?

Anyone know if your chickens, cow and horse respawn? Cause my estate keep getting attacked by a new NPC named Rochelle the Red and her bandits and first thing she's doing is killing my chickens... Lord Eydvar Talk | Contribs 00:26, 8 September 2012 (EDT)

No, you have to purchase them again if they are killed. I stopped buying the horse after the 4th death. — KunvuloninKünvülänin 00:30, 8 September 2012 (EDT)
Really? Cause my steward stops offering improvements once either I've bought everything or if the Bard is the last option left. Lord Eydvar Talk | Contribs 01:27, 8 September 2012 (EDT)
Hmm, your steward should have the options to buy again if you animals have died. So far I've been able to buy a horse 4 times and a cow 2 times. As for the chickens, I've only been able to buy a chicken 3 times and no more after that. — KunvuloninKünvülänin 01:33, 8 September 2012 (EDT)

() Yeah see I have 3 chickens, and 1 of everything else but as soon as i buy the last thing or if the only thing remaining to buy is the Bard then the option disappears from my stewards conversation list. Lord Eydvar Talk | Contribs 12:50, 8 September 2012 (EDT)

Your chickens will respawn if you are absent from the house for ten days, which is why the steward never offers any more when they die. — Unsigned comment by 58.169.148.24 (talk) at 03:07 on 17 October 2012‎
And they say there's no sex in Skyrim, iykwim. *cough-cough* my chickens never respawned (though they got lost travelling to the lake themselves), but even if they're absent, the eggs continued appearing.--Mr.Killjoy (talk) 02:25, 7 March 2013 (GMT)
Console codes could speed things up for you here. I don't know if the refIDs are all the same for everyone but for me the Lakeview livestock are the following...
Cow - xx000994 Horse - xx007a8e Chickens - xx007888, xx007683, xx00788d
prid <refID>
resurrect
disable
enable
You can skip the enable/disable part for the cow and chickens, it mostly effects the horse who likes to slide around on the ground after being ressurrected. Throw all that in a .txt in your skyrim directory and just run it whenever you're missing livestock.Vainamoinen -Talk -Stuff 23:05, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

The Woodsman's Friend

The weapon "The Woodsman's Friend" is located just northwest from the house, which makes it rather handy for discovering the item. Kaelorn (talk) 20:04, 8 September 2012 (EDT)

Confirm Spouse glitch

I can confirm that your spouse will indeed attempt to spend the day on the armory porch which causes them to stand in the general area of the where the stairs would be if you do not have the armory. This isn't too problematic a bug but indeed is a bug. Lord Eydvar Talk | Contribs 01:37, 11 September 2012 (EDT)

Is there a fix for this? A console command or mod? Does the unofficial patch fix this problem? While it's a pretty minor glitch, it still really bugs me that my husband always walks to the side of the house and then just stands there all day. It's great he goes outside, but I'd like him to do more. I don't know enough about scripts or modding to fix it myself, though. 72.135.118.77 06:07, 4 August 2013 (GMT)
The latest unofficial patch fixed this. Now the spouse will doing stuffs like chopping wood and making leather when they are outside. — Unsigned comment by 103.6.238.80 (talk) at 04:44 on 7 November 2013‎

Armor duplication glitch returned

I built the armory in the east wing, put a full set of armor on the center mannequin, removed it and went questing. upon return the armor was duplicated there although the mannequin was.. displaced, in front of the armor stand on the floor (pretty much where you'd be when selecting the object) and upon taking the new set of armor, the mannequin moved back to its original position. left and returned house, a new duplicate is there. And another. I can't remember if I left the cell before retrieving the armor

It also removed all armor tempering. (No custom enchantments were on the armor, so no enchantments were lost although I'd imagine they would be)

I can't get rid of the duplication either, also the mannequin displacement glitch is entirely separate (or so I believe) from the duplication. Luckily I've got 6 sets of Ancient Falmer Armor... but it's a bit annoying. — Unsigned comment by 74.193.81.178 (talk) at 04:34 on 12 September 2012‎

moved from article

  • This could be a bug. I've purchased the property at level 2 and later on various characters. But there is discussion elsewhere about it not being available until later levels. I just played a character to level 9 and was not offered the quest to give the Jarl some Black Briar Mead. I believe this is because I did the Bandit Leader quest first.
added by Dog333 on 19:10, 30 September 2012‎

I removed the above from the article due to the first-person point-of-view, lack of specific details, and also the fact that the very first sentence implies that it may or may not be a bug. Knowing the exact circumstances would be helpful in order to determine whether or not this is a bug, and of course, how to reword it accordingly and add it back to the article if appropriate. — ABCface 20:40, 30 September 2012 (GMT)

I am rewording it as follows. Please advise on changes.
This property is sometimes unavailable at early levels - other times it is. If Siddgeir is Jarl, and Rare Gifts is complete, and Kill the Bandit Leader is complete, then it usually works. But sometimes Rare Gifts is not a conversation option at early levels [other times it is]. — Unsigned comment by Dog333 (talkcontribs) at 00:26 on 4 October 2012‎
Okay, so from what I understand, the gist of it is that you sometimes can do Kill the Bandit Leader without even getting the dialogue to do Siddgeir's Rare Gifts quest? — ABCface 02:40, 4 October 2012 (GMT)
I'll confirm. Got the letter to report to the Jarl ~72 hours after installing the DLC, did the quest and got the deed. I'm 98% sure I didn't do the rare gifts quest as I didn't even have Falkreath(?) unlocked for fast travel at the time. 67.169.54.165 18:26, 6 October 2012 (GMT)
Okay, thanks for the confirmation. I'm thinking now that this is not actually a bug, but the way that it is supposed to work, given some new information and other reports. For one, a loading screen says that you can buy property by becoming a friend of the jarl in the hold-- this indicates that you are required to raise their disposition to a certain point, rather than required to complete certain specific quests. Of course, completing certain specific quests is how you can raise their disposition, so that's where the listed quest information came from before the CK information was available. Also, there's this discussion regarding Heljarchen Hall which seems to indicate this as well. For now, I'll add a note to this page about being able to buy the property without completing Siddgeir's Rare Gifts quest, and all the related information on the different house pages should be updated shortly, as the availability of game-data will help sort it all out. — ABCface 18:52, 6 October 2012 (GMT)

Cannot buy home bug line

I've just edited the bug section, since "cannot buy house for Dark Brotherhood quest" is easily avoidable on pc version via console. It seems just a matter of relationship with the jarl, which is obviously quite low after having killed Helvard. 94.39.220.243 23:42, 6 October 2012 (GMT)

Is there any fix for this on consoles? Neither the Jarl or Nenya will offer me property even though the Jarl says he has granted me permission to do so. It seems that now that means I can't buy property in either Falkreath or Dawnstar (thanks to the recently added crashing saves bug for the Dawnstar quest). such a good value DLC =/ -- Haravikk (talk) 12:50, 23 November 2012 (GMT)
I remember having this problem on the XBox360. I was determined to own all three houses, and having already killed Helvard a long time ago, before I even bought Hearthfire, I also found that Nenya would not sell me Winstad Manor. I tried everything I could think of, and eventually had to go back to a save game from before accepting the quest to kill Helvard. That was a major leap backwards for me. Darictalk 01:35, 12 January 2013 (GMT)

i was able to buy property with the dlc hearthfire all you got to do is complete the quest for the dragonstone in bleak falls barrow take it back then you will have to go fight a dragon and after it you become thane of whiterun then a couple days later you get a message from the jarl of falkreath to go embershead mine to kill the bandit leaders there is just bandits nothing else just by the guardians stone by riverwood then travel there like you are going to riverwood then when you kill them go back to the jarl once you have done that go to the stueart and they will offer you land lakeview manor but you must have the dlc hearthfire at least thats what happened with me on xbox 360 - diamond freddygaming/ emilia the dragonborn

Storage room exterior door bug

I added the storage room to Lakeview Manor and the exterior door had been placed inside a section of wall and could not be opened. Selecting the wall in the console and typing "disable" removes the section of wall in the way and allows access through the door. --YetiWithFlamethrower (talk) 05:04, 10 October 2012 (GMT) I tried, but it would not work. I think maybe it is because I can't really select wall.5:16 May 25, 2014 AH

I found entering the main hall and exiting before building the storage room made the balcony door usable. — Unsigned comment by 188.220.59.80 (talk) at 01:00 on 10 June 2014

Apiary

Does it actually do anything? Seems kindof useless compared to the fish farm, and the mill at least gives you a supply of flour for baking. I guess it might respawn the honeycomb and bees on a timer. Shame they didn't add a method for obtaining honey from it/honeycomb. 87.194.26.132 22:43, 10 October 2012 (GMT)

It does seem to respawn, but it takes a very long time. I didn't keep track, but probably about a month of game time. I got (I think) five pieces of honeycomb and a bee. --Darth l33t (talk) 00:38, 31 October 2012 (GMT)
It also seems to attract bees into the house, though I'm not entirely sure whether this is because I have the greenhouse as well. Can someone with a different west wing addition confirm this? Lady Azura (talk) 06:19, 2 December 2012 (GMT)
I believe bees will spawn in the greenhouse, as well as butterflies, in any of the greenhouse additions. I have the bedroom addition for the west wing of Lakeview Manor and no bees. My Windstad Manor has a greenhouse and many bees inside. Maestrochi (talk) 15:17, 11 December 2012 (GMT)
The greenhouse spawns bees, butterflies, glowbugs, and lunar moths as well. It is a great extra source of alchemy reagents, and is why I always have the greenhouse and the Alchemy tower together in the same house. Darictalk 01:25, 12 January 2013 (GMT)
I haven't had anything in the Apiary respawn yet. I'm wondering if it's just broke on the Xbox 360. (Gadianzero (talk) 12:41, 23 December 2013 (GMT))

Cannot buy lumber to build Lakeview-Manor in Falkreath

Half-Moon Mill is a lumber mill that supplies Helgen and Falkreath. It is operated by Hert and Hern. Should you join the Dark Brotherhood, a contract placed on Hern will reveal the couple's true nature to be vampires that feed on passing travelers. You should be able to buy sawn logs here after installing Hearthfire by speaking to Hert. You can also cut your own for free if she has given permission to do so. Before installing "Hearthfire," I've accomplished the Dark Brotherhood quest "Kill Hern the vampire at Half-Moon Mill" and I killed both Hern and his wife. Now I cannot build my house (Lakeview Manor) in Falkreath because I was provided with only one source to get my sawn logs, that is Half-Moon Mill, and I've already killed the owners of that Mill. Is there a way to work around that issue on a PC? Such as console commands? — Unsigned comment by 96.231.112.102 (talk) at 16:57 on 11 October 2012‎

You can simply buy your wood at another mill, for example at Riverwood, they will deliver it to Lakeview (or any other manor). See Sawn Log for sources. For a console solution see this talk page. --Alfwyn (talk) 15:20, 11 October 2012 (GMT)
Or you can get an housecarl for your manor - any companion will do, just enter the house with him and then talk to him - and you can buy logs directly from him (same price). 94.34.188.238 21:49, 11 October 2012 (GMT)
Falkreath itself has a mill in the town. The brother of the owner of grey pine goods sells the lumber. He often gets stuck in his house though as does the riverwood mill owner until you go find them and then they will go out to work at the mill. 87.194.26.132 12:31, 12 October 2012 (GMT)
If you really want Hert, you can try using console typing player.placatme 0001982F. Not sure if the dialogue will be avaviable, but that should bring Hert back. --Mr.Killjoy (talk) 02:19, 7 March 2013 (GMT)

Respawning?

I know that the article says that there is no respawn time, but haw long does it take for the items naturally in the house (like salt piles, snowberries, etc.) to come back? — Unsigned comment by 184.88.12.130 (talk) at 20:03 on 20 December 2012‎

Respawn Time: Never. So: never. --Mr.Killjoy (talk) 02:16, 7 March 2013 (GMT)
Well, that's definitely not true. Containers do not respawn, but items placed around the house definitely do. Annoyingly so in some cases. (I want to know who keeps putting that shovel and pickaxe on top of the cabinet behind the forge in the basement. I keep all my crafting supplies in there, and the number of times I've picked up that junk by accident is ridiculous.) I think it's like 10 days, but not sure. (Also, don't put your signature on a new line. It screws up the flow of the thread.) — TheRealLurlock (talk) 02:33, 7 March 2013 (GMT)

Dragon Spawns

I just got Hearthfire yesterday and my first homestead was Lakeview. Five times now, I've returned there to build upgrades, and have gotten attacked by an elder dragon (I'm level 42, was 40 with the first dragon attack). Every time I return after two or three days of doing something else, another dragon appears, and my housecarl runs out to help me kill it. I've also been able to absorb the soul off of every dragon, despite them all being Elder dragons, so it's a good way to soul-farm for anyone else who gets this. --204.232.72.35 21:45, 21 December 2012 (GMT)Chibale

Spouse Moving

Is there a glitch with moving spouses here from another property you own? I have Windstad Manor, and wanted my wife and children to live there. But I then decided to move them to Lakeview since they are suppose to like it better. Only now when I go to tell her I'd like us to move elsewhere, and pick Lakeview she says if that's what you'd like, and they never move. This is on the PS3 version. 67.142.182.22 22:21, 21 February 2013 (GMT)

I can confirm that despite this wiki's reassurance that proper availability of chests and beds can replace the need for the Bedrooms attachment, once I built all three tower attachments on Lakeview I could not move my spouse in after adopting Runa Fair-Shield. Should also note I am married to Borgakh the Steel Heart, and that I also play on the PS3. I did not attempt to move my spouse and children into the house until I had built the Enchanting Tower. — Unsigned comment by ‎ 24.19.122.206 (talk) at 10:25 on 7 November 2013
I was able to move Aela and Sofie to Lakeview just fine even though I had not built the Bedrooms addition there. This was on PC though. --Xyzzy Talk 13:05, 7 November 2013 (GMT)
I play on PC and was unable to move the Camilla, Ysolda, Mjoll or Iona into Lakeview manner. I think we can confirm this but and put it on the page. Thanks! 107.194.218.9 22:34, 6 December 2014 (GMT)
If some people can move, and others can't then there might be a issue with the specific people, not the house itself. Did were you moving from another house into Lakeview? Or directly into Lakeview after getting married? Jeancey (talk) 22:36, 6 December 2014 (GMT)

() I'm pretty sure this is the have children - can't move to a house without beds for them situation. I still haven't had anyone say they couldn't move a spouse and had no children. --Morrolan (talk) 11:06, 29 December 2014 (GMT)

Cellar Wall Sconce Bug

The cellar workbench gives the option to add one single sconce and four "pairs" of wall sconces. One of the pairs, specifically the pair flanking the doorway leading into the deeper half of the cellar (where the forge and smelter are) only spawned a single sconce (the left). The sconce on the right side of the doorway (next to the corner with the display case table, deer head, and shrine of Kynareth) wasn't added, so that corner remains darker than intended.MrC (talk) 15:23, 27 February 2013 (GMT)MrC (PS3 user)

I wanted to add that this bug only appeared in the Lakeview Manor cellar.MrC (talk) 15:33, 6 March 2013 (GMT)

I also encountered this bug on the 360, specifically the Lakeview Manor cellar. Didn't discover a solution. It is really quite irritating because I took my time, building each piece of the house one at a time, even removing work benches as I finished each room, making certain that everything appeared as it should (since I've had problems with hearthfire houses in the past) before moving on to the next section of the house. And the very last room I go to finish, the cellar, has this sconce bug; really Bethesda, really? I even reloaded a previous save before I had begun construction on the house at all, rebuilt only the essential pieces first (house and main hall), went to the cellar immediately, built only this "one" wall sconce (it's the second from the bottom of the misc menu list for future reference), and the right sconce still didn't appear. Whatever causes this bug, it seems that it's caused by an "outside", unrelated influence (in terms of gameplay), that happens regardless of what you build or how you build it. Therefore I can only suggest building a Lakeview Manor as quickly as possible to avoid it.--108.183.41.123 01:53, 16 August 2013 (GMT)
This should be added to the page, I have the same thing on PC on multiple playthroughs. If I knew the id of that wall sconce could I just enable it with the console?

Lakeview Manor Alchemy Lab bug

Has anyone else experienced problems with the Alchemy Laboratory?? I have built it twice (Had to go back to a load the 2nd time. I have completely built the lab correctly and it will not have 2nd floor, it just leads me to balcony. Does anyone know of any fixes for this?? I am so frustrated now because I have now lost tons of loot going back to a load and NO alchemy lab!— Unsigned comment by 74.194.72.118 (talk) at 15:42 on 1 March 2013

For me it sometimes take time for new stuff to appear in Lakeview manor (but in cellar, the shrines didn't appear at first, but after fasttravel they were there). the only bug with alchemy lab I had was in Windstad Manor, when, though built it couldn't be used by the player. --Mr.Killjoy (talk) 13:47, 22 March 2013 (GMT)
OP, are you referring to the alchemy lab built in the main hall, or the alchemy tower wing addition? The wing is a tower, which should be structurally identical to the library tower, which I use all the time. There's a single door on the upper floor, but that doesn't lead outside; it just allows you in to the second floor of the tower. From there you find a ladder which leads you outside to the tower top. The main hall alchemy lab is on the ground floor, right front corner as you come in from the entryway. I just use that one and don't bother building either the alchemy or enchanter tower; to me it seems redundant and prevents me from building something else I can use. Carriage bug?

Have this bug in Lakeview Manor - I can't use a purchased carriage. The character asks to ride somewhere (any location), sits on a carriage, pays gold but whether doesn't move (the only thing you can do is jump of the carriage) or the screen fades black then fades again, but you're still at this same location (after 'fading' carriage driver, I forgot his name, asks where to go again, and you can do it all over again, giving out all of your coin). Anyone can confirm it? Or may be tell a resolution? --Mr.Killjoy (talk) 20:45, 3 March 2013 (GMT)

I had the same problem, in a fit of rage I hit both him and the horse. Hitting the horse caused Gunjar to :leave the seat of the carriage. After he climbed back up I talked to him again, selected a place to go, :climbed in back, and it worked.

The Hearthfire carriage drivers are free, well sort of. You've already paid 1500 gold for them, they don't charge you for trips. --Morrolan (talk) 05:30, 14 September 2013 (GMT)

Second story crash / game lock

Okay, I'm completely puzzled here. Playing on the 360, so no mods. DB, HF, and DG installed. Cleared my cache. When I enter Lakeview Manor and ascend the internal stairs - OR come in on the second floor and descend the internal stairs - my game will lock up. This isn't my first time playing by any means, but this is a new one for me. Current quest has Serana following me as we are going after the Moth Priest. Conditions in the house are: Lydia is my steward (and she WAS following me until I had to dismiss her in Fort Dawnguard so that Serana could follow me); Rayya is my housecarl, I have a generic bard living in the home, and my spouse (I do have the armory addition) is Avrusa Sarethi. Currently my character is level 55. I have NOT completed DB yet (need to go talk to the Skaald) or the main quest yet - I'm doing things a bit differently this time.

I have not tried this at any of my other houses yet - I'd like to get into Lakeview as there are some things inside I need. Any thoughts? Also note this is quite repeatable, and waiting until assorted NPC's are outside doesn't help. Agmen (talk) 02:16, 4 March 2013 (GMT)

Try using the carpenters workbench outside the house and removing all the interior workbenches. They've been reported to cause crashes and lockups at times. Quillan (talk) 15:02, 22 March 2013 (GMT)

Hmm I have Had a very similiar problem (360) that I think I've resolved finally. This was my second time around like yourself with similiar circumstances ( no add-ons except hearthfire so far). I noticed that it started glitching and freezing going through the front entrance. It would Drag\catch\glitch four steps in and then i would either run back to the door or face a full system stall. This was after I hired a bard yet before i married my wife and adopted a child. Rayva was my steward and carl, Lydia was my wife. I had the amoury wing yet no bedroom wing so my guess is that when you hire a bard with no extra beds it causes a conflict. I tried the workbenches to no avail, moved my spouse and child to one of the other houses ( which took sometime as all my stockpile was in Lakeview haha ) and that didn't help as well. what has worked is coming through another entrance ( the amoury in my case). I got the customery glitch but it did not crash. I also sent my bard packing. So far so good, but I am moving my main hub of operations somewhere else. it was quite annoying and frustrating .... Schrödinger's Hawk?

I've noticed in pretty much all my games that if I shoot at the Hawk(s?) circling my house, something weird will happen: the hawk will continue flying but another one will drop out of the sky. Anyone else get this? --Rylasasin (talk) 22:56, 11 March 2013 (GMT) Addendum: This only works once per respawn cycle it seems. Shooting at the still-flying hawk after the dead one falls has no effect. --Rylasasin (talk) 22:59, 11 March 2013 (GMT)

Adopted kids think they're in Whiterun

I think I saw this in earlier version of the article (or maybe some other one), but maybe it should be mentioned in this article as well: both adopted kids living in Lakeview manor sometimes spawn a Whiterun comment about the tree in the park being so pretty like if they were living in Breezehome.--Mr.Killjoy (talk) 19:13, 22 March 2013 (GMT)

Nearby iron ore veins

Has anybody but me experienced an issue with the iron ore veins just outside the house never respawning after being mined once? I mean, NEVER? This has happened to me on several different characters at Lakeview Manor, but after using them up, they don't respawn. ThuumofReason (talk) 21:53, 27 April 2013 (GMT)

You have to stay away from them for quite some time. I think they're on a 30-day timer loop, and if you get anywhere vaguely close to them, then they reset. --Morrolan (talk) 05:27, 14 September 2013 (GMT)
Same thing here, but I can't seem to stay away long enough for them to respawn. It's probably worth it to experiment and wait 31 in-game days and see if they respawn.
On a different note, are these veins visually glitched for anybody else, in that appear to be floating a foot or two above the ground? I haven't seen this with any other ore veins anywhere. --Xyzzy Talk 05:33, 14 September 2013 (GMT)
I saw them respawn on one game where I went and did the Dragonborn questline, staying entirely on Solstheim, and they respawned after I got back. I did a bunch of DB sidequests on that playthrough too I think. They look perfectly normal to me, not floating in midair like a dragon corpse. --Morrolan (talk) 05:42, 14 September 2013 (GMT)

Cannot purchase lakeview manor.

I have completed siddgeir's bandit quest, and he said I could buy it, but neither steward is offering the option to buy. I haven't killed the guy, whatever his name is. Item dupe on my character?

well, it seems the mannequin bug has affected my character and the armors that was worn by the mannequin that i removed is now duping in my inventory every time I go inside this manor. Creep shit house, probably because it's near a NOrd tomb and graveyard of the dead in Falkreath.

Into the topic, is there a fix for this? I don't mind getting dupe but it's pretty annoying to the points it's ruining the immersion because money is just dropping like rain. — Unsigned comment by 67.180.64.9 (talk) at 01:59 on 7 May 2013 (GMT)

For the PC, I'd recommend installing the Unnoficial Skyrim Patch, which fixes this bug. As for the other consoles, the best option would be to just throw away the duplicated items or reload to a time before the glitch started. However, to actually fix it, from my searches I found a few solutions that I haven't tested, like this one or this video. However, I don't see much that much that's been tried as most people enjoy glitches like this which give them stuff. I hope this helps. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 01:59, 7 May 2013 (GMT)

Cannot Purchase Lakeview Manor (2)

I keep getting the Kill the bandit leader quest from the stormcloak thane's steward. No option to purchase land. I'm pretty sure I became Sidgeir's Thane before I took over the area for the stormcloak questline. I can't persuade the guards from arresting me with a "I'm the Thane" dialog option, so I don't know if I'm really the thane anymore. I've done all the area's quests. EDIT: I never did Dengeir's quest "Dark Ancestor" and it's currently impossible to do. 216.246.130.20 21:29, 18 May 2013 (GMT) Edited 216.246.130.20 04:57, 19 May 2013 (GMT)

You can't get the kill the bandit leader quest from the steward. Those are bounty quests you're getting. You're not thane anymore. You should be able to ask Dengeir "What can I do for you, my jarl?" and then become thane again. See Skyrim:Thane of Falkreath for details.
You should be able to ask Tekla for a house. --Morrolan (talk) 05:26, 14 September 2013 (GMT)

Bandits Spawning Inside House

I just fast travelled to Lakeview Manor and had a bandit encounter, however, all of the bandits were positioned inside my house - as in, I was outside, and using Detect Life I could see that they were inside the framework of the house. Upon retreating a safe distance and waiting, going inside the house then coming back out, or travelling away and then back, the bandits would be fixed. Jazstar (talk) 06:18, 6 June 2013 (GMT)

It could happens with wolves too. — Unsigned comment by 1.9.46.41 (talk) at 05:17 on 26 August 2013
I have seen this bug too, only with bandits. --Morrolan (talk) 05:23, 14 September 2013 (GMT)
It's been added as a bug, and confirmed. --Xyzzy Talk 05:36, 14 September 2013 (GMT)

(PS3) Same thing happened to me. Worse, the situation couldn't be avoided or circumvented. The game "persisted" with the bandit raid as a random event despite how long I stayed away or how many times I rebooted. What fixed it for me was fast-traveling to Pinewatch, then running to Lakeview and engaging the bandits farther away from the house so that they were drawn away from the rock ledge they were spawning inside. Once the bandits were killed, the event stopped.MrC (talk) 23:40, 6 January 2014 (GMT)

Bought Lakeview Manor, but it isn't anywhere to be found.

I used the console 'cheat' player.setrealtionship to get the yarl to like me enough to purchase the property, but it wasn't given to me. — Unsigned comment by 96.50.243.116 (talk) at 07:17 on 8 June 2013

For this hold, after getting him to like you enough to offer it, you have to buy it from the steward. Did you talk to the steward? — ABCface 12:40, 8 June 2013 (GMT)
Sorry to create a new thread, but I am unable to reply to the one I created.
Thanks to ABCFace-I did indeed have to talk to the steward to purchase this land, although
the Yarl took my 5K and gave me a Housecarl. I'll be praying to the Night mother soon so I can kill that Yarl who stole my money.... — Unsigned comment by 96.50.243.116 (talk) at 04:54 on 9 June 2013‎
If the jarl took your money rather than their steward, you may be in a different hold. If it was in fact the steward that took your money, and all the jarl did was give you a housecarl then the conversation with the housecarl was about being thane and not necessarily about the house. So, if did in fact give money to the steward for a home, did you receive a charter? Do you have a quest objective in your journal to find your land? If you go to where the home is supposed to be {see the map linked from the page), is there a setup there with a drafting table, carpenter's workbench, anvil, and chest clustered together? There should be a copy of the Beginner's Guide to Homesteading on top of the carpenter's workbench. There should also be a log pile on the property (along with the potentially easy-to-miss clay deposit and stone quarry). Are those things appearing at the homestead location? — ABCface 11:32, 9 June 2013 (GMT)

Built everything, but house never appear.

so i've purchased Lakeview manor, built foundation for small house. ive build everything door, wall roof etc yet the house didnt appear like i never build the house. i already turn off every lakeview mod yet i still got the problem. was it come from other mod? — Unsigned comment by 124.82.127.26 (talk) at 20:52 on 2 August 2013

It's probably from a mod, yes. This issue has not been reported by users without mods. The only way to know for sure is to go to a save with no mods installed (which may mean a new game if you've had mods for your whole current playthrough) and trying to build it again. — ABCface 20:57, 2 August 2013 (GMT)

Still cannot buy become a thane, or even buy land in Falkreath, despite doing everything

I own Skyrim legendary edition on the PS3 and have installed all the DLC. Before I liberated Falkreath for the Stormcloaks, I got a letter from Jarl Dengeir of Stuhn (despite him not being Jarl at the time) asking me to visit him and become his thane. I ignored this, and later, I liberated Falkreath hold. Now I wish to buy land and become a Thane off him. I've made sure that there are no rare gifts or kill bandit quests in my quest log, the only radiant quests are the thieves guild "the numbers job" and another one handed to you buy vex that name escapes me; yet still there is no dialouge option with him or his steward to become a thane or buy land. I've helped a couple of people around falkreath so far. If anyone could contribute something that might help it would be appreciated. Thanks. Have you tried talking to his steward, Tekla? — ABCface 20:09, 29 August 2013 (GMT)
The letter you got from Jarl Dengeir is sorta buggy. When it originally came, it was from Jarl Siddgeir. When you overthrew the Legion in Falkreath, it automatically morphed into a letter from Jarl Dengeir in your pocket.
In order to become a Thane with Dengeir, you need to walk up to him and ask him if there's anything I can do for you, my jarl. If this isn't a dialogue option then there's something the matter. He doesn't require Rare Gifts or a bandit leader quest, just installing him should be enough. However the page that details the Falkreath thane quest is Skyrim:Thane of Falkreath. Maybe something there can help you.
Tekla should be willing to sell you the land for 5000 gold. --Morrolan (talk) 05:21, 14 September 2013 (GMT)
What happened to me was I recieved my letter from the jarl I did the bandit leader quest and then got the mead for him. After that he wouldnt give me anything else to do the stewards quests were'nt fulfulling the obligations of helping his people to become thane. I tried a few quests throughout the area and nothing so I was 2/3 in helping I went and chopped some wood then Bam I'm thane yehaw bought the land got the housecarl ( new favorite) have Lydia doing the steward stuff but unfortunately my cow just died. Small House attacks - moved from article

If you have only constructed the Small House, even with livestock outside and a carriage, there will be little to no attacks from bandits, giants, or animals.

This sounds like opinion, and is pretty vague. Can somebody verify with game data that only building the Small House reduces random attacks compared to the full-house footprint? --Xyzzy Talk 16:19, 8 November 2013 (GMT)

problem in display cases

i have a problem with display cases.indeed no display cases work!all of them just open and close and dont have "active" option for set the weapon in that.2.146.193.146 17:24, 5 February 2014 (GMT)

This is a common feature of all display cases in the Hearthfire homes. You can open the case, manually place whatever items you want inside it, then close it. The was a discussion here that resulted in a note being added to Skyrim:Hearthfire. --Xyzzy Talk 19:15, 5 February 2014 (GMT)

Disappearing Construction Options

Okay, so I drafted a plan for my house, went to the workbench, and built half of it. When I realised that I needed more resources, I backed out of the bench and worked at the anvil to make nails and fittings and other iron materials. When I went back to the workbench, the menu was completely blank. No roof framework. No 'HOUSE' section. Nothing. When I checked back at the drafting table, the small house blueprint was available again. I stocked up on supplies, selected it, and built the whole thing in one go. It seemed to work until I went back to build the next stage of the house: I drafted the large house plan, built half, and went to restock; when I came back to the workbench, it was empty again. When I checked the drafting table, it offered the small house plan again! I don't know what to do with this!

"Friendly" skeever? - moved from article

The following was added as a bug to the article:

"The friendly skeever that stays after 1st skeever infestation doesn't prevent other infestations, so you can end up with multiple infestations, leading to a crowded cellar if you save each friendly skeever."

I've dealt with the skeever infestation several time at Lakeview Manor, and I've never had one of the pests appear non-hostile. I wonder if the OP has confused a pet skeever with one of the infesting ones, although that wouldn't explain the multiple friendlies that build up. Can anybody verify that this can happen, please? --Xyzzy Talk 20:18, 20 March 2014 (GMT)

If you wait at the bottom of the ladder for them to attack you, and only kill the ones that attack you directly, the friendly one will stay away from you until the fighting stops, then start "patrolling" the area between the 2 "rooms" in the cellar. They even make noises & sometimes crouch on their back legs, as if greeting you. You'll need to get any followers to wait upstairs though, or they will automatically kill any skeevers present.142.163.118.142
Hmmm. I'll check it out when I get a chance. Does this skeever turn hostile if you approach it, and does it show up as a hostile on your display, or does it remain completely passive? --Xyzzy Talk 17:41, 21 March 2014 (GMT)
I don't think it turns hostile at all. It seems to hide near the further end of the shrine until the battle is done. I didn't notice if it showed up as hostile in my HUD. Kellynne (talk)

Avoiding balcony separations

What I found out is that if you're going for the balcony combo (Armory, storage, bedroom) that if you build the armory last, there will be dividers (wooden railing) between the balconies. You have do build the armory first so there won't be dividers between the balconies. 104.35.7.43 07:35, 2 May 2014 (GMT)

Actually, correction to this, when you build storage/bedroom/armory, just save the floor for last for all of them and there should be no seperations at the balcony. 104.35.7.43 17:16, 8 May 2014 (GMT)
Can anyone confirm this? Or better yet, clarify what he meant by "save the floor for last for all of them"? --71.94.53.49 12:18, 22 October 2014 (GMT)
I can't confirm, but my interpretation of what the IP said was that you should build all parts of the storage, bedroom, and armory except for the floors. Once you've got everything else built, then do the floors for the three sections. Robin Hood  (talk) 19:22, 22 October 2014 (GMT)
Gathered all the necessary materials, and did it all in one go. Built armory first, then bedrooms, then storage. Left out building the floors on all three wings until the basics of each wing were built, then wala, no separations. Don't know if the order in which the wings were built, or doing it all in one go affected anything, but I can definitively confirm that the patio wraps all the way around with no dividers. Cannot build Shrine of Akatosh in basement- game says I have no flawless amethyst (i have several)

Have several flawless amethysts which are required to make the shrine in the basement- yet the game refuses to believe I have any when trying to build- it is greyed out as if there isn't one in my inventory. Tried with both stolen and regular gems. This is on xbox 360. Anyone else had this kind of issue? — Unsigned comment by 74.65.161.166 (talk) at 06:13 on 10 August 2014 (GMT)

I don't see any known bugs for this issue, and haven't experienced it myself. I'd recommend you go back and ensure you have every item, all non-stolen and what not, before trying to build it again. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 06:13, 10 August 2014 (GMT)
Have you started, but not finished, the quest Sealing the Deal? I have seen reports of quest-involved items affecting the use of said items in crafting, so it's possible this is the culprit. — ABCface 13:16, 10 August 2014 (GMT)
What is your release version? That's the only quest that uses flawless amethysts. Can you sell them? You should be able to sell them at general stores, like the Riverwood Trader. If they don't show up on the list to sell them then they're quest items. --Morrolan (talk) 15:46, 11 August 2014 (GMT)

() I finished that particular quest- but I found out the problem is that the game doesnt recognize that I have the gems in my inventory. I checked by trying to make the necklace and it appeared greyed out as if I had none in my inventory. Maybe a mod should move this to the bug section for gems or something now. I'll try handing in every gem quest I have open and see if that does anything.

- I should add that I can view and sell the flawless amethysts in my inventory to merchants.

- I also should add that upon thinking back, I am pretty sure thy immediately after accepting the quest reward I would have tried to steal back the gems (I usually do this to improve the skill, then make new jewelry to lose the stolen tag). I wonder if taking one of the flawless amethysts back thar way may have glitched the way my game views them in my inventory or something. Weird thing is I can sell them- I sold them and bought them back and still I cannot make the shrine or the necklace

That's really weird. I've never tried to steal back gems handed in for collection quests, I don't know if they appear in the quest-giver's inventory. I'll try it sometime and see if I can duplicate this bug. --Morrolan (talk) 16:18, 12 August 2014 (GMT)
-just realized what may be the problem! There IS another quest that invovles a flawless amethyst and I have it in my inventory! It's a misc quest for theives guild to steal Mjolls flawless amethyst. I must have missed it because 1. It doesnt look like a normal flawless amethyst and 2. Its called "mjoll the lioness's flawless..."
Which means usualy I only noticed the beginning and would skip ahead. I'm going to turn in the gem and see if this fixes things-hopefully it will. — Unsigned comment by 74.65.161.166 (talk) at 17:38 on 12 August 2014‎
UPDATE- strangely, I turned in this quest and yet the gem mjolls flawless) is still in my inventory. Knowing me, I prob stole it immediately after turning the quest in. Anyway, dropping the gem from my inventory (since it's no longer a quest item) fixed the problem. This (apparently) means having her gem in your inventory marks all flawless amethysts as quest items, even when the ques has been completed and Mjolls gem is no longer a quest item — Unsigned comment by 74.65.161.166 (talk) at 17:47 on 12 August 2014‎
Great, thanks for letting us know! I'll add that information to the Main Hall page. As for the wrong gem being turned in, that's a common issue when you have stacks of things. Robin Hood  (talk) 17:52, 12 August 2014 (GMT)
That's Skyrim:The Fishing Job. It's not a misc quest, it's a sidequest. It causes odd behaviour with the item being targetted. When you turn in the item, if you have other items of the same type then Delvin takes a random item out of your inventory, possibly the the item you actually stole but quite often a different item. So you probably lost one of your regular flawless amethysts when you turned it in. The item you stole is identical to the others except for its name and can be used for smithing etc. after you turn in the quest. --Morrolan (talk) 01:57, 13 August 2014 (GMT)

Item flinging

I've bought Lakeview Manor and I am about done with the interrior. However, I wanted to give the house a Dwemer makeover. I removed all jugs, pots, plates...etc and replaced them with Dwemer artifacts. I went into the Celler to remove all the cogs and upon return I found the Dwemer things I just placed all over the house. It seems like all the Greybeards came into my house and Fus-Ro-Dah'd everything. Is this a bug or is the house anti Dwemer? — Unsigned comment by 74.193.89.183 (talk) at 13:23 on 6 September 2014

Houses tend to only save where you drop an item, not where you move it afterward. Reading the workarounds, I think if you move them now, then exit and enter, it will save the placement. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 13:57, 6 September 2014 (GMT)
Silencer's got one half of it right. However - you can't remove all the jugs etc. permanently. They will respawn eventually. Still, if that's not a problem, in order to place an object in a particular spot in the house, you drop it, then leave the house, then re-enter and drag it where you want it and then leave right away and re-enter. --Morrolan (talk) 23:30, 12 September 2014 (GMT)

Audio glitch outside

Every time I leave the house or fast travel to Lakeview, the game's sound effects cut out completely, except for the wind. This started happening after around 200 hours of play. If I leave, they start working again. Soon as I return, they cut out again, or only work intermittently and/or play the wrong sound, like only hearing every third footstep, or every other hammer hit with some sounding like they're coming from off in the distance. Approaching the apiary makes the sound mute completely until I move away from it, like it's trying to play the bee sounds but can't. This only happens outside at lakeview. Any idea what causes this to happen so late in the game? 24.179.199.9 04:11, 13 December 2014 (GMT)

This sounds like it may be a conflict due to a mod. Disable any that even have the slightest chance of affecting it and see if the glitch ceases to occur. --Xyzzy Talk 21:48, 13 December 2014 (GMT)
No, this is on the 360. It was fine for the longest time, then started glitching out one day. Only happens outside lakeview manor. Sounds work inside the house or in another cell- outside lakeview, they glitch. Definitely a localized bug. Reinstalled everything and it is still doing it weeks later. Had to abandon that house because it was annoying, but I'd still like to figure out what caused this to happen. If it were some other general bug, it wouldn't affect just this one outdoor location.96.42.112.55 09:47, 26 December 2014 (GMT)

Construction Item Spawning Glitch

This is specifically in the Lakeview Manor Cellar. I have created all the items via the workbench, and a good half of them never spawned (ex. the barrels, smelter, children's dummy, and shrine base). However, the bench does not give an option to build any of them again. In fact, with the shrine base, I was able to build the shrines, and they are floating on nothing. I can walk through the space where these items should be as well. — Unsigned comment by 67.61.66.218 (talk) at 22:31 on 24 December 2014

Disappearing Books on Upstairs Bookshelf - Bedroom Side

(PS3) I've encountered a bug or glitch with a particular bookcase. It is located upstairs on the back wall near the bedroom (not the western-wing bedroom!)The manor was built several saves ago, after completion of the Companions and Dark Brotherhood quest lines, so it is unlikely that I can return to an old save. What I've done is empty the house of every valuable so nothing else goes missing, and I've saved outside away from the property.

Here's the problem: Books were stored on the bookcase sometime ago. Instead of being able to put the usual amount of books that can fit there, only eight were able to sit on each shelf. When I attempted to add new books, the original books disappeared! They didn't appear anywhere else in the house or on the floor - they simply vanished. I reopened the bookshelf inventory to see the two new ones that had taken the old ones' places, closed the inventory, then opened the inventory again. The two new books were gone. All of the shelves did the same thing.

It's obvious that the only way to not lose books is to prevent putting books on that shelf. My question is... will this happen with other Hearthfire homes, has this occurred for anyone else, and could other containers start emptying after adding to them or opening/closing them? I'm worried that ANY of the homes could make different occupants, valuable and rare items, and regular items disappear. Again, this is on PS3, but has this happened on PC as well? Thanks in advance - I hope I've provided enough information.

Questionable Notes

  • Adopted children appear to favor Lakeview Manor over Windstad Manor and Heljarchen Hall. When spoken to, they sometimes remark, "I like living here. The lake is so pretty." (girls) or "I went fishing at the lake. I almost caught something!" (boys)
  • If you have children and you ask your spouse how the kids are, your spouse may respond in support of the location: "Fine, love. I think the fresh air does wonders for all of us, and this house... it's just perfect." However, other spouses may comment that living in a homestead is too dangerous for children: "Fine, when we're not fending off attacks by wolves. Or bears. Or giant spiders. Honestly, what were you thinking, sending us out here?"

Both of these notes don't really seem noteworthy to me. For the first one, I can't remember what children say about the other homes, but saying that they prefer them over the others seems somewhat subjective. The second note just doesn't seem to belong on this page because I'm pretty sure spouses say the same thing for the other homes as well, as in those lines aren't unique to Lakeview Manor. •WoahBro►talk 19:31, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Each house has its own set of unique lines. If you move your spouse to Lakeview, then you get the compliments about the fresh air. The wolves, bears, etc. comment is for Heljarchen. If you move your spouse to Windstad, you get complaints about the crypts and associated undead surrounding the house. --Morrolan (talk) 02:10, 25 August 2015 (UTC)
