Walkthrough[edit]

Black-Briar Meadery[edit]

Ungrien is the barkeeper, and therefore welcomes most visitors to the meadery. However, Indaryn is the brew master, in charge of brewing the mead. Romlyn Dreth, Niluva Hlaalu, and Asgeir Snow-Shod are the remaining employees, and can be found doing various nondescript jobs around the meadery.

Entering leads directly into the shop/bar area, with the counter in the southwestern corner. On the counter is a note from Indaryn regarding thefts from the meadery. There are three stools in front of the counter, and a couple Black-Briar mead barrels in the southeastern corner. There are two small square wooden tables, one to the north and the other in the northwestern corner. These have three bottles of Black-Briar mead, a bottle of wine, two salt piles, and two notes, the first titled All Employees Must Read Immedately!, and the second titled To Be Read Immedately!. Both notes indicate that working conditions are terrible for the employees, and that Indaryn is a tyrant. Hanging above the counter is a rabbit, a pheasant, two garlic braids, two bunches of Elves ear, and two bunches of Frost mirriam. Under the counter is a leveled sword and three bottles of Black-Briar mead. On the south wall is a wall shelf holding all of the displayed merchandise (see notes). There is a door behind the counter to the west.

Through the door is a corridor heading north to a T-junction, with a set of shelves in front, against the north wall, that holds three boiled creme treats, a sweet roll, a couple loaves of bread, several potatoes, a cabbage, and several pieces of cheese. There is a crate, a sack, a couple food barrels, and a Black-Briar mead barrel in the corridor, with a second to the east of the junction over a flight of stairs leading down to the cellar. Heading west along a walkway with the lower lever visible below, there is a railing on your left side, with a wooden bench and a dresser against the east wall. At the end of the walkway is a storage area with several crates, sacks, and more Black-Briar mead barrels, with the door to Indaryn's bedroom to the left. Seen over the railing on a ledge in the southeast corner is a large coin purse; to reach it, you must jump over the railing and land on the ledge before inching across and then dropping down to the floor below.

Indaryn's bedroom contains his owned double bed, a medium coin purse and two loose gold coins under the bed, a cupboard to the left holding four potions and a mammoth tusk, a dresser at the foot of the bed with a note from Maven on top, an end table, and a wardrobe. Clutter, food, and alcohol are also found scattered about the furniture and on a wall shelf.

At the bottom of the stairs are more barrels containing Black-Briar mead, with a small chance of finding a bottle of Black-Briar Reserve. Against the east wall is an unlocked chest containing nothing, with a set of shelves beside it. These hold a bottle of wine, an iron sword, and copies of The City of Stone, Songs of the Return, Vol 19, The Code of Malacath, and Song of the Askelde Men. In the southeast corner is a small round wooden table and two chairs. Against the north wall is a long wooden table holding a medium coin purse, three loose septims, a bottle of Black-Briar mead, a portion of grilled leeks, a loaf of bread, and a goat cheese wheel. There is a doorway to the west that leads onto another walkway with a railing around the middle and a view down to the bottom level, where the storage and boiling vats are. The walkway heads both west and north. Following it north passes a couple wall shelves on the east wall holding three bottles of Black-Briar mead, a bottle of alto wine, and plenty of clutter, with a garlic braid, a bunch of elves ear, and two bunches of frost mirriam hanging above. At the end of the walkway is a small square wooden table set for three, with two salmon steaks, three portions of grilled leeks, and a bottle of Black-Briar mead. Heading west passes several more Black-Briar mead barrels, before turning to the north and passing a second exit leading out onto the docks. At the end is a flight of stairs down to the east leading to the lowest level.

At the bottom, in front of you is a chest that requires a key to open. The only way to get this key is by completing the relevant quest for Sibbi Black-Briar. There are two large boiling vats against the north wall, three large storage vats opposite against the south wall, and several piles of firewood on the floor and under the stairs, where you can find two loose pieces. There are also a large number of Black-Briar mead barrels stacked in piles around the room, and a wall shelf in the middle of the east wall holding several food sacks.

Displayed Merchandise[edit]

The following items are sitting out in the store, for example, on the store counters. They can be purchased from the merchant, or can be stolen. Other items may also be present in the store, but those other items are not available for purchase. These items respawn after ten days.

Standard Merchandise[edit]

This is the merchandise found in the meadery's merchant chest. These items are only available if purchased from the merchant; they cannot be pickpocketed or stolen. These items are restocked every two days.

Count Item
12 bottles of Black-Briar Mead
3 bottles of Black-Briar Reserve

Notes[edit]

  • There is a Protected Protected shadowmark by the entrance, due to Maven Black-Briar's strong ties with the Thieves Guild.
  • Completing Under the Table for Wilhelm makes low-level items in the meadery freely available, including the bottles of Black-Briar mead found in barrels, but not the bottles of Black-Briar reserve, nor the items on the shelf behind the counter, which are always tagged as owned.
  • Aside from most barrels and sacks, all containers in the area are non-respawning, and are safe to store items in.
  • If you don't want to go through the main gate of Riften (and thus meet Maul on the other side, who will start the misc. quest to talk to Brynjolf about joining the Thieves Guild), you can go through the meadery's doors on the docks outside the city during the day and enter Riften this way, bypassing Maul. Brynjolf will seek you out as soon as you enter the market, but you can use the forge at the Scorched Hammer to avoid the misc. quest he gives to join the Guild.
