Arathel

Arathel is a High Elf who wants to be a young rebel, but ends up being duped by Mirulon to assassinate Sapiarch Aicantar of Shimmerene. He is the subject of the quest, A Tale of Two Mothers, and is first met in Mirulon's Chamber in the Shimmerene Waterworks, though he flees the chamber upon the players entrance and the beginning of a battle with Mirulon. You'll then find him in the next part of the waterworks where you'll be asked to escort him to Mother's Den. After you leave the waterworks, Arathel is removed from the area.

Quest-Related Events[edit]

When you first encounter him, he'll be frightened.

"Agh! Don't hurt me! Wait. You're not one of them, are you? Sorry. As soon as I saw an opening, I took off running. I didn't even see that drop!
Honestly, I'm lucky to be alive … for the moment, at least. My mother is going to kill me."
You're mother's the one who sent me. I need to get you back to Mother's Den.
"Ugh. That's two mothers that will want my head.
All right. I'll follow … at a distance. I've had enough excitement for one lifetime."
Stay close. You'll be fine.
"What's the hold up? We need to get back to Mother's Den before Mirulon's thugs run us through!"

Speak to him and he'll say:

"How did Talerion find this place? I guess it doesn't matter. I'll go quietly if I must. Just don't let him hurt the people here."

After convincing Talerion that Arathel is innocent, Arathel will thank you:

"Thank you so much for dealing with Talerion, cerum. I think the Mother of Rats wants to talk to you."

After the quest, he speaks to Lanarie:

Arathel: "I think I might want to be an adventurer too!"
Lanarie: "No. You've had quite enough adventure for one lifetime."

If you speak to him after the quest, he'll thank you.

"I don't know what to say other than thank you. The Sapiarchs may expel me for all this, but that's something I can live with.
People in high places don't have all the answers. The Mother of Rats taught me that. So did you."
