Last Name?[edit]
Okay, so if him being the same race and sharing a last name is not noteworthy here, why is it noteworthy here and here? - Kinetically-Interlinked Nirnian Multi-User NthGen Exoform (talk) 21:57, 3 June 2016 (UTC)
- Probably because no-one's got round to removing it. I'd just remove it all, ideally in one fell swoop with a bot as that's not all of those notes; there's more on other pages. DRAGON GUARD(TALK) 23:16, 3 June 2016 (UTC)
- The problem with using a bot to do that is when people actually do seem to have a connection, like, say, this man, this man, and this woman. It'd have to be done manually, like this: http://en.uesp.net/w/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch&search=shares+a+name&button= which would be pretty tedious. - Mentioning that one NPC shares a last name with another NPC isn't really noteworthy in and of itself because a) it's a statement of the obvious, and b) it falls more under the heading of trivia, which we don't list on our articles. Ideally, shared surnames should only be mentioned when there's some significance to it. Motierre, for example, is a surname used by two men related to Dark Brotherhood questlines in different games, and there are hints that one may be a descendant of the other, so it's a point of interest. Another example would be Noveni and Aldos Othran, who are the same race and appear in the same game, but don't appear to be related. It would be natural to assume that they are, so we have the note to point out the unusual circumstance. On the other hand, there's nothing to connect Varel Morvayn with any of the other numerous Dark Elves across the series with that surname, so listing that he has the same last name as, say, Liiril Morvayn would be like Wikipedia's article on Brad Pitt mentioning that he has the same last name as William Pitt. It's not really worth mentioning in most cases unless there's some connection between the two. Zul do onikaanLaan tinvaak 00:12, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
- Thuum is right. You literally have dozens, if not hundreds, of NPCs in ESO that share a last name with some NPCs from previous games - I'd even risk to say that it happens more often than not - so it should only be mentioned when there's a tangible connection. --Vordur Steel-Hammer (TINV1K) 07:47, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
