Starting the Page[edit]
To get this page somewhat started I've done a quick data dump of all the short "books" listed in the construction set. It still needs work, such as:
- Figuring out which ones are quest-related and should be (or already are) listed on the relevant quest page
- Providing information on where each of these can be found
- Eiminating any entries that are already listed under books (or are more appropriate under books because they provide lore)
Anyone who wants to tackle some of this is welcome to do so. --Nephele 14:09, 30 March 2007 (EDT)
- Well, I recognize a few of them right off. The "crumpled pieces of paper" (000624D1 and 000624D2), as well as the "Letter to the Guild of Mages" (000624DC) are part of the unlisted quest in Lost Boy Cavern. The "List of Candidates" and "Forged List of Candidates" (0000C229 & 0000C04A) are both part of the Thieves' Guild quest Taking Care of Lex, as are the two "Transfer Orders" (000982F1 & 000C4A29). I expect one is the note given to Lex when he is reassigned and the other is the one you find on the desk in the Guildmaster's Quarters once you become the Gray Fox. All the various "House XXXX area" notes are the physical manifestation of the different house upgrades that can be purchased. All of the "Glarthir's Notes" and "List of Deaths" (too many for me to list the IDs) are part of Paranoia. I recognize a few more but cannot place them accurately. Directions Notes[edit]
Note: 00068C13 This one is found in the cave where you fight the Mythic Dawn (Cant remember the name) Are these notes useful at all? I tried to follow the directions but I didnt find anything. It would be cool if someone who has followed through on each of these "directions" notes to explain what each one leads to. 69.121.123.51 18:06, 14 July 2007 (EDT)
- I was almost sure that I found that note from Cheydinhal (that is where I used to be when I was a low-level.) --84.250.159.219 17:18, 20 July 2007 (EDT)
-
- This particular note is identified internally as "ClutterDirections04" and it can be found in both Lake Arrius Caverns and in the basement of the Bruma Fighters Guild (but not in Cheydinhal). Given that it can be found in multiple places and is considered by the game to be purely decorative "clutter" I doubt that the directions really take you anywhere. There are other notes in the game (e.g., the Note found outside Fort Coldcorn for The Unbeaten Path quest) that do provide actual directions. But those notes are unique and are identified internally with distinctive names (e.g., "ClutterEEgg00FortColdcornLoot", EEgg=easter egg). --NepheleTalk 01:21, 30 July 2007 (EDT)
House Upgrades[edit]
I came up with a new format for the House Upgrade notes, most of which are nearly identical in text. I split off the top and bottom parts in column-spanning cells, and lined up the actual contents sections (the only different part) in parallel columns, so you can easily compare and see what each upgrade will get you. See Bravil for an example. This makes the chart far more useful, I think, though it does lose some of the original text. Before I do this to all of them, I'd like some feedback on this one. Other things I might add would be the prices of the upgrades (all the same for Bravil, but some of the others have varied prices.) It's possible we might want to move all of these out as a separate page, say, Oblivion:House Upgrades, linked to from the Houses page. (It would also reduce the size of this page by over half.) Any thoughts on this? --TheRealLurlock Talk 23:44, 30 March 2007 (EDT)
- Looks good to me. I almost deleted all of the house upgrade notes from the data dump because they took up so much of the page, but then figured maybe somebody could make some use of them. I think your format makes the information much more useful.
- I'd think that that the tables would be most useful incorporated right into the Oblivion:Houses page, instead of moving them to a separate page. On the houses page they could even replace some of the existing text. And would address a suggestion made a while back to add details of what each upgrade provides to the houses page. --Nephele 00:07, 31 March 2007 (EDT)
Wanted Poster[edit]
From a search I just did, it seems that right now, the wanted posters for the Gray Fox that you see in the imperial city aren't listed anywhere on this wiki. While they are unlike any of the notes currently listed here, I think this page would be the best fit for that particular item.
There are also some particular properties of the Wanted Poster of which people might want to take note. First of all, it is completely immobile. They only appear on the walls in the Imperial City, as far as I know, and cannot be moved. However, I once found one in a Loot Bag in the Waterworks, along with various other items that had been lying around there. I took it, simply because I thought it was sort of neat. When I later dropped it, it just hung in midair, much like paint brushes do. This is probably so it doesn't simply fall off walls, but it still might be worth noting.
Anyhow, I'll add the Wanted Poster to this page in the next few days unless someone feels it doesn't belong here, and assuming nobody else beats me to it. --Honeybunch 09:07, 26 October 2007 (EDT)
- The wanted poster is here. It is shown on on the Gray Fox and Finding the Thieves Guild pages. I will agree that the text of the poster needs to be somewhere on the wiki, though.--Gaebrial 09:16, 26 October 2007 (EDT)
- Just beat me to the post, Gaeb. Yes, it's one of those things that's so obvious everybody has assumed it must be on the site somewhere... but it turns out not to be. Thanks for spotting it. Finding the poster in loot is a glitch, though - it shouldn't happen. There is also a poster (the only one outside the Imperial City?) in the repaired captain's quarters of the Smuggler's Cave mod. --Rpeh•T•C•E• 09:37, 26 October 2007 (EDT)
- Well, I'm going to do my best to add it to this page, although I'm not so great at wiki formatting. Also, since I'm running the 360 version, I don't think I can get the item code (or whatever it is) that is under the name of all the other notes on this page. If somebody else could get that and put it into the table, I'd appreciate it. --Honeybunch 22:19, 26 October 2007 (EDT)
- I should also mention that I'm not displaying or linking to the image of the Wanted Poster, simply because there's no place on the table where it will fit. --Honeybunch 22:38, 26 October 2007 (EDT)

Orders from Lucien Lachance[edit]
ON the Dark brotherhood quest Purification, someone has complained that there is no info on the orders you recieve, i have the text for it but am not sure about exactly how it should be added to the wiki or even if it should be added at all, could someone tell me exactly what should be done with it? Volanaro 08:59, 5 February 2008 (EST)
- In short, it needs adding to that table of notes in the style of the ones already present and then linking to from The Purification page - see also the Cleanup tag I put on the Next of Kin page. If you're not comfortable editing what is a pretty big table, I'll do it this evening. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 09:09, 5 February 2008 (EST)
- I think you're thinink of the wrong orders, i'm tlaking about the ones you get given during the purification quest, also i don't know its id in the construction set so someone else would need to find that out before it's added. Volanaro 09:18, 5 February 2008 (EST)
-
- I put cleanup tags on two pages that were missing links earlier - one was for the Purification, the other was Next of Kin. I just meant if you were doing one you could do the other at the same time. I don't have the IDs, alas. I'll put 'em on later. Thanks anyway. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 09:27, 5 February 2008 (EST)
Taxing paper[edit]
In the notes, i saw the taxing paper which you take during Untaxing the Poor. It said Raven Camoran has paid 3 gold. Does Raven Camoran lives in Waterfront or it is a minor easter egg? — Unsigned comment by 78.184.152.243 (talk)
- This is already mentioned here. Presumably he was in the Waterfront that day. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 18:30, 12 July 2008 (EDT)
Missing[edit]
You're missing the 'Ravings of a Necromancer"(?) I've found three, one with curse words (we must alert the Church Elders!) - Amen Brick.
- Again, it would really help if you could provide an accurate name, because there are no notes or other items named "Ravings of a Necromancer". --NepheleTalk 15:37, 22 July 2008 (EDT)
-
- Sorry! Memory probs + not at home computer = pain for all around. The notes are titled "A necromancer's..." I've found 4 so far. - Amen Brick
- Still, no. There are no items anywhere in Oblivion, SI, or any of its official mods with the string "a necro" in the name (any case, any letters before or after the string). The only book/note/written material with "necromancer" anywhere in the name is Necromancer's Moon. Since you're obviously playing with numerous mods, in future I think it would be far more useful if you assume that your mods are adding the items instead of sending us on wild goose chases for non-existent items. --NepheleTalk 12:13, 29 July 2008 (EDT)

"Important" Notes[edit]
I was wondering what qualfied as an "important note" in the Important Notes section. I would think that quest related notes would get put here, but some notes, like Glarthir's, don't show up in the section. Also, some quests are quests that don't appear in the journal that do appear in this section. I think that we should create a separate page listing these important notes if they are that important. I think there are quite a lot of these notes to warrant a separate page.
Also, I think the Gray Fox wanted poster should have a separate page. Is it possible to get a picture of what the picture looks like in-game (I mean when activated, not like the poster of the Gray Fox's page)? If so, I think it would be more useful to show what it looks like in-game. -- Jplatinum16 03:02, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
- I think that most of the notes under the "important notes" sections, are (of course) notes that you can get a some point of the related quest to either give you some background info or to help by giving some tips on the quest. Also, most of the notes are a method to advance in the quest since they add a new journal entry once you have acquired them. I don't think that Glarthir's note are that relevant to list them sice you actually don't get them in the course of the quest (and there are several variants according to how you make the quest), same goes for the Gray Fox's poster since it actually only adds a new conv. topic. And as for separating them, I think that the page, while not useless, it would be a little bit redundant since you will only have a list of the notes, and as it says at the start of the section the already have separate pages (similar to the book layout) due to their importance. --S'drassa •T2M 03:12, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
-
- Yes, most of them are quest-related (including unmarked quests). The page was far too big (and still is!) so I moved some of the notes out months and months ago and did a few more last night. There are several others that could go, and in fact you could argue that (almost) all of the notes in the first section should get their own page. We'd probably still need to keep notes with the same name on this page (Glarthir's Notes, for instance). rpeh •T•C•E• 12:07, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
- I was just going to suggest a table for the important notes, but it looks like you already beat me too it :) Looks you've removed all the quest related notes from the section. I agree with you that notes with the same name should stay, but it's also possible if we could put them all on one page, like all of Glarthirs notes on one page since they have the same name. That way, readers can find the particular note they wanted easily. Also, cleanup of the bottom plug-in section should be addressed. Should we put them in tables too, or would it cause problems for the plug-ins with only one note? -- Jplatinum16 19:56, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

A Necromancer's Riddled Warning[edit]
I can't find "A Necromancer's Riddled Warning" anywhere on the site. It's the letter in Teekeeus' room in the Chorrol Mages guild right next to his copy of "A Brief History of War in Tamriel I". I don't have the CS so I can't look up the FormID. It's a pretty interesting letter that also gives some cryptic insight into Teekeeus' history, so I think we should add it. Glarthir's notes...[edit]
It seems Glarthir was right all along, at least about one thing. The Mythic Dawn were conspiring, just not against Glarthir. The question is: if the Mythic Dawn are so secretive, how did he know about them? And the Blades "Dark secret" could be martin... What do you all think? — Unsigned comment by Count Marius Caro (talk • contribs) at 13:37 on 22 May 2011
- He also blamed the Maruhkati Selective, a branch of the disbanded Alessian Order. So no, his paranoid ramblings have no hidden meanings. Legoless 15:04, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

- @Legoless Actually Else who talked very bad of Glarthir turned out to be a Mythic Dawn agent later on. She had talked in a very evil way of Glarthir even though unaffiliated with the quest: "He's a raving lunatic. 'Oh, he's harmless, we're used to him.' Harmless, ha! One day he'll snap. Then watch out." 212.186.15.63 12:55, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
Not found in game[edit]
If something is not found in the game, then why even post it in the article? how do we even know it exists if it's not found in the game? — Unsigned comment by 67.236.25.14 (talk) at 23:18 on 24 October 2011 (UTC)
- While I'm not sure if it's worth listing notes that aren't included in the actual game, I wish to point out that every item created for the game would be found in the Construction Set (or in the testing hall in some cases). For example, the note "Instructions" is easily found in the CS. While it's not found in-game, it does exist. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 23:18, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

Possibly a reference?[edit]
Could note AA081's "People are doing just as Chancellor Ocato said -- staying calm, and honoring the memory of the emperor and his sons by getting along with their lives." be a reference to the British WWII propaganda poster that seems to be all over the place lately--"Keep calm and carry on"? Dark secret[edit]
What is or might be the Blades' "dark secret" Glarthir is writing about? Is it that they failed to protect Emperor Uriel? But I don't think this is a 'secret' but the citizens know that the Emperor was accompanied by the Blades when being murdered, or am I wrong? 212.186.15.63 12:59, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
- Glarthir is a paranoid schizophrenic clearly suffering under some serious delusions. The name of his quest is literally "Paranoia". Per the above, there is likely no meaning behind his ramblings about conspiracies and secret plots. —Legoless (talk) 15:27, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

- But it looks like he was right with Toutius Sextius and the Surilie brothers. He wasn't so with Bernadette Peneles, dare I say, but in his notes he admits himself that she is one of the few to have shown him kindness. What's also weird is that Dion came to me to talk about Glarthir and asked me to tell the guards in case Glarthir asks me anything. That's very suspicious too and explains why Glarthir doth not trust the guards. 212.186.15.63 18:03, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

- Thou art a Daedra worshipper so no wonder thou art siding with Glarthir's strange enemies. There are many hints Glarthir is right:
- he writes in his notes about some factions that may be involved he knows a lot about
- some denizens of Skingrad detest him for some reason, especially guards
- while I was sleeping, Dion appeared in my home (walked all the way up into my bedroom; how did he find out so precisely where I live?) and told me that someone (who?) told him that I'm asking around in the city about Glarthir
- Dion energically insisted that I tell him why and anything what Glarthir told me (I then was pretending to "just wanting to know more" about him), this is direct proof Glarthir is being watched
- Toutius Sextius didn't want to talk about Glarthir until being bribed. But when gaining a high enough disposition he at first pretended to not know who I'm talking about until suddenly remembering of himself; and when I again came up with the topic he said "Yes, the strange Wood Elf who haunts the Low Gate every morning, you said he was Glarthir. I'm afraid I know nothing else about the fellow" making things even more strange. Glarthir had warned me how cunning Toutius is and Toutius' beating around the bush proves him right
- Toutius Sextius, the Surilie brothers, Dion and open Mythic Dawn agent Else are dead now. Glarthir doth not suspect anyone else, not even Bernadette, and everyone seems kinder to Glarthir now. If Glarthir was a paranoid maniac, he would have suspected more and more denizens of Skingrad. 212.186.15.63 07:00, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
