Say What Again?[edit]

I was walking along the streets of Bruma, associating with the locals, throwing a coin or two at the more-common-than-you-would-think beggars walking around. When I realised that every time I give a coin to the beggars their voices change. (as if they used a different voice actor or something) this works with both male and female beggars (although less noticable with female) and I found it quite amusing. Anyone know what's up with that? Progamming error? Lack of voice actor talent? If anyone knows please post here.

-They really should have either recorded more 'beggar voice' lines, or limited what you can ask them about. Oh well. — Unsigned comment by 58.170.203.26 (talk)

Or it's a wry comment on beggars? Until they get the coin they're frail and helpless and once they've got it they're perfectly fine? Perhaps somebody at Bethesda is simply being cynical. –RpehTCE 02:41, 29 January 2008 (EST)
I think they just have normal voices to pronunciate the fact they're "fakers", poor nonetheless... Dwarfmp 05:26, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Blessed are the Meek, for They Shall Inherit the Earth[edit]

Okay, so they may not quite inherit the earth, but I've had some (real) people tell me that if a beggar collects enough gold, he might eventually get himself better clothes or a suit of armor. I'm not sure if this is true or not because I've never seen it happen. Have you? (Gromir the Wasted) 24.2.171.37 14:15, 14 May 2008 (EDT)

Nice theory but not true. There's nothing in the AI to allow any NPC to buy anything. I think your friends are winding you up! –RpehTCE 00:50, 15 May 2008 (EDT)
Yeah, just had to make sure. I'm not the kind of person who would sit there and offer coin after coin after coin to a beggar just to see if he would buy anything. Thanks for the clarification! (Gromir the Wasted) 24.2.171.37 21:14, 15 May 2008 (EDT)

Cure[edit]

-Can Beggars Be Cured Of The Diseases? — Unsigned comment by 71.156.74.155 (talk)

Nope. There's no mechanism to allow such a thing to happen as far as I can see. –RpehTCE 02:11, 18 May 2008 (EDT)
If you were to cast a cure disease spell on them, would they revive? I always wondered but I play on the 360 so I can't check to see.--Emperor Ray IV 19:21, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
It seems you can cure beggars' disease. I used Puny Ancus as a test and, after creating a Cure Disease on Touch spell, I typed isspelltarget 98405 into the console. Before I cast it on him, it came back with 1, meaning he had his default Yellow Tick Disease. After casting the spell, it came back with 0. I also waited for a standard respawn time of 73 hours, and it was still 0 (not that he needed to respawn, but I thought if it was going to kick back in at all, that would be when it would happen). No Charity required[edit]

Just wanted to note that you don't actually have to give them a coin to complete this quest. Merely starting a dialogue with the 19 beggars is sufficient to complete the quest. Perhaps the main page should be adjusted to reflect this? — Unsigned comment by 72.74.221.152 (talk)

Done. Thanks for pointing that out; the quest page was correct but that one wasn't. –RpehTCE 09:53, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

Do they eat?[edit]

Just Wondering Do Beggars Eat I Never Seen Them Eat I Only Saw One Eat When I Had To Go Talk To The Countess Of Bruma To Meet Martin At The Chapel And I Saw Fetid Jofnhild Eating — Unsigned comment by 70.234.82.7 (talk) at 06:16 on 13 June 2008‎

Ehm, if you have seen one eating than yes, they eat! 82.95.155.246 10:18, 4 August 2008 (EDT)

Voices[edit]

Are there different sets of dialogue for beggars? When I play on the 360, the beggars seem to have ordinary voices for all their dialogue except for "Thank you, kind sir!", but on the PC they have the noticeably different beggar voices. --142.161.43.198 06:52, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Who is Mystara?[edit]

When giving gold to a beggar they often reply with "Blessings of Akatosh/Mara/Stendarr/Julianos etc. upon ye". However one of them said "Blessings of Mystara upon ye", and this is a god I haven't heard of. There is no mention of a deity called Mystara on any of the lore pages, I've never heard of him/her apart from beggars giving me his/her blessing. Who is Mystara? Norowane (talk) 12:07, 17 July 2013 (GMT)

Mystara is a realm in Dungeons and Dragons. It is an easter egg that hasn't been added to the OB:Easter Eggs page yet. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 18:06, 17 July 2013 (GMT)

About Simplicia the Slow...[edit]

I'm using sacks in the Storage Area (both the West and East wings) of the Imperial Market District as my alternative containers in order to free inventory spaces from my own house in the Waterfront and the Arch-Mage's Quarters (Arch-Mage's Night Stand) and Arch-Mage's Tower Council Chambers (sacks) of the Arch-Mage's Tower (I don't trust the Guildmaster's Quarters in Dareloth's Basement) and I've noticed that there's one time Simplicia the Slow is snatching something in one of the sacks in the Market District. I wonder what beggars snatch in nearby free containers? Rider4ever38 (talk) 05:10, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
