How To Change Weight With Console[edit]

The self explanatory title should say everything, but yeah which command do i use to change weight please? — Unsigned comment by 71.207.92.255 (talk)

You mean change the weight of an item? I don't think you can. Certainly you can do this in the Construction Set, but not the console. --TheRealLurlock Talk 12:52, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

What are TGM's effects?[edit]

Is it suppose to be like Oblivion? I know that in Oblivion, you never lose health, magicka, fatigue and you have unlimited encumbrance, but in Morrowind, I only have unlimited magicka and fatigue (I don't know yet for encumbrance). The description on this wiki says that it's suppose to make you invincible, but what do you mean by that? In Oblivion, you never lose health, but in Morrowind, with TGM on, you die from falls and you lose health when monsters attack you. And are there other effects to Morrowind's TGM, except for unlimited magicka/fatigue?

It's still pretty useful to have unlimited magicka/fatigue, I totally agree, but I'm still a little disappointed, I liked big jumps. At least, it doesn't make the game 100% easy lol. --76.67.153.113 03:45, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

You don't take normal or fall damage with TGM on. You can only take damage from enemies with reflect. Kinne 04:02, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

weapons[edit]

I used the command additem to get myself some armor.

I tried to get myself a weapon, but it seems i can't get weapons with that command?

This is what i tried:
player->additem daedric_katana 1
player->additem deadric katana 1

Both don't work for me.
How do i get weapons with the console command? — Unsigned comment by 77.250.40.55 (talk) at 08:38 on August 6, 2012

player->additem "daedric katana" 1

Simple Tip[edit]

Since there isn't kill or killall command in morrowind, just click the NPC (or player) that you want to kill and use 'SetHealth 0'. I have tested this mostly on Hlaalu guards. This is probably an obvious workaround, but I thought it would be worth noting. I'm AcE x EPiiCzZ, i'm just not signed in. :) — Unsigned comment by 82.4.8.184 (talk) at 21:54 on 6 October 2012‎

Copy ande Paste?[edit]

Does the Command Console have any functionality to copy and paste? I'm going to have a lot of commands to enter, working around a bug in the main quest: Corprus Cure Bug. Downstrike (talk) 04:03, 19 February 2013 (GMT)

I've given up on that particular game because it had so many glitches that it seemed unsalvageable, but I'd still like to know if the Console has the capability to paste. Downstrike (talk) 01:27, 19 March 2013 (GMT)
I don't think it does, but you can repeat commands by hitting up on the arrow keys. Jeancey (talk) 22:11, 10 April 2013 (GMT)

TFC[edit]

Does Morrowind have anything similar to the TFC (Toggle Free Cam) command that Bethesda have in their later games?
Also, when I was trying that, I noticed that I can't seem to toggle menus back on after toggling them off, they just keep turning off (see this image.) 121.45.249.71 09:55, 15 June 2013 (GMT)

Yes, they do, it is TCL (ToggleCollision) (also UI comes back if you open a menu after disabling it I believe. Just hit escape or something). Jeancey (talk) 21:15, 15 June 2013 (GMT)

Race Change Glitch?[edit]

I changed my race using enablestatreviewmenu from Imperial to Khajiit and I've noticed that when I open conversations with NPCs, they will refer to me as khajiit, but npcs outside conversations may say "Greetings Imperial" and in combat, similar dialogue such as "Die Imperial." Is there a possible fix and has anyone encountered this? Also, I didn't see enableracemenu as a console command on the page, the command works.~ J'Darko (Talk) 01:50, 1 February 2014 (GMT)

Problem with addsoulgem command[edit]

In the list of console commands the one that says addsoulgem <CreatureID> seems to be wrong. When I try using it I get an error that says it needs 2 IDs not just one. What the other ID is and how it's formatted (before or after the CreatureID) is a mystery to me. I thought maybe it was just the number of items or something but that wasn't the case. It would have been nice if the author had given an example and had tested it to make sure it worked.

Has anyone gotten this to work? If so can they please post the proper format? — Unsigned comment by 184.99.93.135 (talk) at 18:21 on 9 August 2014‎

Based on the instructions, it looks to me like it would be, for example, addsoulgem "<CreatureID>" "misc_soulgem_grand" 1. Robin Hood  (talk) 19:15, 9 August 2014 (GMT)
Nope, that didn't work. It says item "misc_soulgem_grand" was not found.
Zagan 19:27, 10 August 2014 (GMT)
I just googled to be sure, and then tried it myself. Here's exactly what to type, including the quotes, assuming the creature you're using is a Golden Saint: player->addsoulgem "golden saint" "misc_soulgem_grand" 1 Robin Hood  (talk) 04:27, 11 August 2014 (GMT)
This varies by game build. Whether you capitalize or use commas or not is (or at least should be) entirely irrelevant. Quotation marks around "golden saint" are required because of the space in it, but not around the soul gem type name. What works or doesn't work is the number at the end. Some builds require it and throw an error if you leave it off, and some do the opposite, and won't work unless you don't include the numeral. I've updated the article to reflect this. — Darklocq  ¢ 10:16, 5 June 2017 (UTC)

Vanity mode[edit]

There's a togglevanitymode command which seems to just make the camera slowly revolve around the player as if they were idle for too long. I noticed though that you can't use it before you've picked a race and class for yourself. The game just says "No." Is there any information on how the player looks before they choose a race? Baron Praxis (talk) 10:00, 23 August 2014 (GMT)

The PC "doesn't look" before this; you'd just show up with an invisible body, since no mesh has been selected. — Darklocq  ¢ 10:12, 5 June 2017 (UTC)

setpos(x,y,z) and enablestatreviewmenu commands:[edit]

Hello. I've noticed that every instance of the aforementioned commands is accompanied by a "this will not work right" disclaimer or something similar. I wonder: is this game really so old that people have forgotten how to make those commands work correctly, every time? Thousands of years ago, when I first began playing Morrowind, the community in which I was active at the time (about eleven years ago, heh) spent weeks getting every detail of the process worked out, and far be it for me to let that work fade into the fog of history. So, without further ado:

To use the setpos(x,y,z) command in-game, and have the changes remain persistent to your save game: first, use the commands to get the placeable object where you want it. It's easiest, obviously, to use the getpos(x,y,z) command and modify the output. Then, with the object still selected in the console, enter the commands: move x 1; setatstart. The coordinate variable doesn't matter, you can use move y 1 or move z 1. Once you enter these commands, quick save, then quick load, and voila: the item is exactly where you wanted. Permanently. Note that these commands are only effective for placeable objects (both those you can and cannot pick up, e.g. furniture and inventory items.) It does work on corpses, but the changes are not immediately reflected until you reload the game.

To use the enablestatreviewmenu command to modify your character skills WITHOUT losing levels/spells/data: first, save. Then, make a backup save, because you can never be too careful. Once all that business is taken care of, enter the enablestatreviewmenu command into the console. Navigate back through the menus until you reach "fill out forms yourself," and select that option. Make the desired changes to your skills. Once you hit OK the window will close. Do not, and I say again, with emphasis, DO NOT under any circumstances open any menu (except the escape menu, which you'll need). DO NOT open inventories, DO NOT look at your stats, DO NOT access any menu at all, or you will LOSE your character data. Instead: save the game immediately, and exit the game—exit it completely, back to desktop. Then, re-run the game, and load the save file you made. You'll find that the changes to your skills have worked, and your character data (levels, skills, spells, so on, so forth) remain the same as they were before.

Both of the methods I describe above have worked flawlessly for me for the past eleven years. Note that, in that time, I have not tried to change PC race using the enablestatreviewmenu command, only PC major and minor skills to continue leveling. I'm not positive if race change will work the same way, though I can easily try it and post back results. Using the setpos command, I have actually constructed dynamic houses in Morrowind—that is, buildings that I have created in exterior cells using placeatpc and setpos commands. The result is a totally dynamic location that exists only within your savegame. The results can be very interesting, though this is an extremely tedious approach.

If this information is available elsewhere, I apologize for taking up the space with a redundant post. Heh. However, a cursory glance suggested the contrary, so I decided to post the information here, and see if anyone deems the information worth sharing. WEAPON (talk) 02:31, 13 September 2014 (GMT)

Nah, it's good to bring it up here, because forums about old games die eventually, and most of the MW-specific ones are already lost.

For the first, we'd need an entry on SetAtStart, its syntax, and its purpose(s). Also some confirmation from people who can trigger the "my moved item didn't stay put" problem that the trick you outline still works in the final build of the game. Using OpenMW, I can't confirm that this bug/problem even affects that engine at all. The only time my positioned/rotated objects do not stay put is when I've done it poorly and they're clipping, in which case I may come back to find they've moved to no longer clip (and this is sane game engine behavior, not an error).

For the second bit, that's probably too detailed and precise a hack for this page, though it might work out at more narrow article on Console-hacking your character. Again something that someone with a current copy of the final game release should test to make sure the decade-old instructions are still valid. — Darklocq  ¢ 10:10, 5 June 2017 (UTC)

change class[edit]

is it possible to change your class with the console?

This is already covered in the article. See EnableClassMenu. — Darklocq  ¢ 10:11, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
That doesn't save changes. I just used the menu to adjust poor decisions in my character build but none of the changes showed up. My Major/Minor skills are all as they were before. UrKungFuNoGood — Unsigned comment by 108.53.102.234 (talk) at 18:24 on 8 November 2018

Proposed cleanup[edit]

I would recommend that we remove all the entries with descriptions that are blank, marked with "unknown", or with "?". As the list says, it is just a selection from the full list, and we should not be "selecting" to highlight here anything we can't actually explain to readers. From trawling around teh interwebs, it's clear that some of the console commands are either not understood by anyone at all outside of Bethesda, or that whatever site did detail their exact workings has long since disappeared. — Darklocq  ¢ 10:20, 5 June 2017 (UTC)

No. This is an encyclopedia and every command should be listed, whether we know what it does or not. The only reason they should be removed is because they are not a usable command. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 17:27, 5 June 2017 (UTC)

Stolen Items[edit]

Hey, I was skimming this page looking for a console command to reset the stolen status of some items. I've recently took over Foryn Gilnith's shack over at Seyda Neen (he's long since been dead), but I can't find a command to reset the stolen items in his house. Does anyone know about a command that could help me with this? AedraRising1 (talk) 00:50, 10 October 2018 (UTC)

Renaming cells and items?[edit]

Is it possible to rename cells and items using the console? If so, this should be added.

Command format[edit]

Hi everyone! The article says that writing the command as player -> AddItem "Gold_001" 12345 (with spaces) is wrong. But it's not. It works the same way as player->AddItem "Gold_001" 12345 (I checked it on my version of the game, I have no mods or patches, only M+T+B). Please, someone else check this information and correct the article if my information is confirmed. — Unsigned comment by SergiuZ (talkcontribs) at 06:18 on 28 April 2021 (UTC)

DeadCount[edit]

Any way to fix that variable? Only command I see is GetDeadCount "character_name" and it show number of kills, yet see no way to change it...--87.207.108.197 20:18, 8 October 2022 (UTC)

shorten or break up showvars?[edit]

When using showvars I get the sense that I'm not seeing the full list of results. Is there a way to make the output capacity larger break up results in to smaller parts? Chill fridge (talk) 15:13, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
