The Fists of Randagulf were worn by Randagulf of Clan Begalin, one of the mightiest warriors from Skyrim in Tamrielic history.[1] He finally lost the gloves, and his life, when High King Harald conquered Skyrim circa 1E 143-1E 221.[1][2][3] As a sign of respect, Harald took Randagulf's gauntlets for himself. After the High King died, the gauntlets disappeared. The Fists grant the bearer added strength.[1]

The last living dwarf, Yagrum Bagarn, at one point befriended the sorcerer Divayth Fyr.[4] At Fyr's behest, Yagrum Bagarn wrote a book that would later be known as Tamrielic Lore[5]:241 from the notes that he gathered over the centuries, listing the Fists of Randagulf among various items of "unimaginable significance".[1] By the Interregnum, copies of this book circulated throughout Tamriel, providing some general information on the artifact to its readers.[6]

Circa 3E 427, the Blades spymaster Caius Cosades sent the Nerevarine to assault the Sixth House base of Ilunibi. Traversing deep into the sea-side cave, the Nerevarine encountered several Ash Creatures and the Dagoth shrine protected by Dagoth Gares. The warrior was able to defeat the Ash Ghoul but was cursed with Corprus. Among the spoils from the bittersweet victory was the Fists of Randagulf, which lay at Ilunibi's bell chamber.[7]

The Fists of Randagulf would later come into the possession of Grenwulf the Brawler, a renowned pugilist. Circa 4E 201, Grenwulf came into a heated argument with Holrik Frost-Sword, a swordsman who wielded the Ice Blade of the Monarch. Seeking to settle their dispute and showcase whose fighting style was superior, the two figures took on a quest to slay a Web Mother spider that had nested nearby at Cronvangr Cave. Three weeks had passed, and the ambiguity of their fates led the Last Dragonborn to investigate. Amidst the webbed victims were the corpses of the two, whose bickering caused the end of them. The two manifested as restless spirits, finally banding together to put an end to their executioner. Lending their aid, the Last Dragonborn slew the brood mother, helping put the spirits to rest, leaving the Fists and the Ice Blade to be claimed.[8]
