Attribute Images?[edit]

Is it really appropriate to use the attribute icons from Oblivion on a Daggerfall page? I don't have Daggerfall, so I don't know if it had icons for this purpose, but if it did, I'd say we should get those if anything. Otherwise, I don't think those icons are appropriate for this page. --TheRealLurlock Talk 14:48, 26 November 2006 (EST)

There were no icons for the attributes in neither Daggerfall nor Arena, but the page looks a lot nicer with them. ⌈Uniblab 20:58, 6 December 2006 (EST)⌋

Running/Jumping as primary skills[edit]

Is it really that bad a thing to choose these are primaries? It seems to me that I'm still perfectly able to get to level 40+ with characters who take these as their major or primary skills - it just means that the starting levels are extremely fast (to level 10-ish in about two hours) and the later levels are slightly slower.--Kroth 14:11, 4 February 2007 (EST)

Custom Class Examples[edit]

The pages are extremely first person, made with a lot of non-encyclopedic personal accounting. I think it might be better to delete them, but I want the opinion of others, first. (Especially considering I can't delete, I can only tag). Somercy 12:51, 27 April 2007 (EDT)

This ain't no Wikipedia. Seriously though, it's fine. 68.46.219.84 23:29, 17 May 2009 (EDT)

Special Traits (Advantages/Disadvantages)[edit]

I noticed that there is nothing on Special Advantages and Disadvantages on this page. Since they are such an important part of the Custom Class creation, I've started a sandbox that details them to the best of my knowledge. It's not complete since I don't know the details on all the traits. Please help me complete it. :D AlcaeusTheWizard 00:09, 16 September 2008 (EDT)

Lower magic ability[edit]

in light

in the latest patch a bug that didn't exist in the earlier versions was added. If you take this then any "increased magicka" enchantments on an item will actually decrease magicka. I've got 2 rings an amulet and a bracer with increased magicka, work as advertised in light, step into darkness and my total magicka is 2 and I have 0. take them off it goes up to 68

this doesn't appear to have been fixed in the unofficial patch either. — Unsigned comment by 24.38.217.116 (talk) at 14:37 on 20 July 2013

Skill point generation at character creation[edit]

There is perhaps understandably a bit of pushback toward the research I've done into skill points at character creation...after all, the old values had been established for decades and seem correct at first glance. I thought I would take an opportunity to present a test here which anyone can perform to help prove the accuracy of how skill points are calculated in classic Daggerfall.

This test has been performed on multiple different computers using Bethesda's 2009 release, Steam's release, and DaggerfallSetup-2.17.0.zip, each updated to 1.07.213. Each produce identical results. This test (and skill point generation method) do NOT apply to Daggerfall Unity, which was developed based on the previous incorrect understanding of how skill points are established.

Follow these steps:

  • Start a new game
  • Choose any race and gender
  • From the list of possible classes to play, choose Nightblade
  • Choose to answer background questions
  • For every question, choose the top-right-most answer (e.g. the first one is "Stealth"), EXCEPT for the question "In between formal study, you spent your time ___." Answer this question with "practicing acrobatics."
  • Choose any name and face
  • Increase any stat as you wish

After this process, you will be on the skill screen. Notice that your Dodging is only 27, even though the minimums are thought to be 28 to 31. This is because Dodging as a primary skill began with 25 points, then was increased by +2 from the "practicing acrobatics" question, and was not modified further.

Also notice that your Restoration is 22. As a minor skill, Restoration began at 10 points, then was increased by +6 from "which school of magic have you been studying the longest," then by +6 again from "as you grew older, you received additional magical training in ___." Of course Restoration is higher than the expected defaults of 13 to 16, but you can see how having answered two +6 questions, it must've started at 10 points to end up at 22.

I hope this helps to illustrate the way Daggerfall's skill point generation works. Sporky (talk) 22:56, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
