Question.[edit]

Hi can I ask how you are able to edit the page for Mikrul Gauldurson? I tried afew days ago to write a page for each brother but I was just redirected somewhere else and couldnt seem to edit them. Kimi the Elf 20:22, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

A never mind, I typically found out just after asking! Kimi the Elf 20:33, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
Well, i'm presume you found the little link in the top right then :) --Kiz ·•· Talk·•·Contribs ·•· Mail ·•· 20:57, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

Images[edit]

Thanks for fixing Media:SR-quest-Purity.jpg, Kiz. I am still learning the standards here. Pics should be in 4:3 ratio?-RedKnight 20:08, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

No problem! I'm doing a batch of them at the moment. All images (but not npcs) should be in 4:3. NPCs should be in a 1:1 (or square) ratio. I'm going to ask before posting - do you know all of the naming conventions we use on wiki? --kiz talkemail 20:12, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
Hiya. Hmm well, now I see there is a standard and can compare similar images to try to get it right. Is there a page that explains the standards? Thanks -RedKnight 20:14, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
Help:Images is the best one - if a bit long winded. But its all there, i'd advise reading down to "Adding images to pages" after that you already know about! --kiz talkemail 20:18, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

Can I borrow...[edit]

I was wondering if you'd allow me to use your profile page as a template for my own. I could just have a boring white page and rattle on about nothing useful, or I could have one similar in style to yours and still rattle on about nothing useful ^^ Draconeo 14:55, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Feel free! Just be warned its not as simple as it may look if your not familiar with code :) --kiz talkemail 14:56, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
I don't imagine it would be, but I'll spend some time on it and hopefully not get my "Writing to be edited mercilessly" on my own userpage lol. Thanks :3 Draconeo 15:00, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
It's very hard to actually make someone else edit your user page - just dont be offensive/obscene and don't put any userboxes stating your are an Admin/Patroller/Mentorr etc. and you'll be fine. Also, if your going to put images on there that aren't already on the site please check the Copyright and Ownership page for what is, and isn't, allowed on the site --kiz talkemail 15:11, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
Hope it's not too bad :P You can see how much I really did pilfer XD. But thanks again :3--Draconeo01:12, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

Possible Beacon Locations[edit]

Hey, thanks for your latest edit to that section of the Break of Dawn page. There were a lot less locations on the list when I first made it into a table, but all the later additions were making it ridiculously long. I didn't really know how to address it though, and this works pretty well. Thanks! :) Alphabetface 23:40, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

It's alright :) I was at a loss for a bit, I can't split the list evenly. Do you happen to know if thats all of the locations? --kiz talkemail 18:12, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
I've been watching the page since I first added the list, and there's now about three times as many locations listed as there was then. I'm beginning to think that the beacon can be found almost anywhere except out in the wilderness, but I really have no idea. I play on the Xbox, and I don't really know anything about the CK, so I have no way of finding out for sure. If it's something like "any random location which contains a boss chest" or something like that, maybe we should just add a note to the page which details the criteria for what locations are possible, rather than keeping the ridiculously long list of known locations. The list could be moved to the discussion page after doing this, so it still exists somewhere. But, I don't really know how the game determines when/where the beacon shows up, or how to find out.Alphabetface 00:33, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
To be perfectly honest, it can more or less spawn in every boss chest in existence. Alfwyn looked through the game files yesterday, and came up with a whopping 151 possible locations. It might be easier to list where it won't spawn. --Krusty 00:39, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Krusty. I updated the page based on this info, and moved the existing table to the discussion page. I was wondering if a note should be added about when the beacon appears though. The quest can only be started at level 12, according to the Daedric Quests page. Is that when the beacon can randomly start appearing as well? Alphabetface 01:14, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

Um...[edit]

Does this page really belong in the Daggerfall namespace? JW ABCface 21:34, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

I'm not going to comment on appropriateness for Daggerfall since I haven't played it, but one thing to keep in mind is that pages like that in the more recent games would've gone into Tes3/4/5Mod space. Daggerfall and the other older games don't have a corresponding uber-technical namespace, so it's not unusual to see a couple of more technical articles in their gamespace instead. As I say, I don't know whether that one's really appropriate or not, though my gut says probably not, at a glance. Someone we might want to consult would bePLRDLF...he's sort of our Daggerfall master around here. Robin Hoodtalk 00:52, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
Well, I don't know anything about Daggerfall at all, so it wasn't the page subject matter being in the Daggerfall namespace that concerned me (especially now that I know that there's no technical namespace for Daggerfall). What concerned me was the way it was written— not quite a 'professional' or 'encyclopedic' style, particular the swear word right smack in the middle of it. But I'll move this discussion to PLR's talk page, thanks for directing me where to go with it. ABCface 02:22, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

Got something[edit]

[English Accent] Onnit like a car bonnit! [/English Accent] --kiz email 17:16, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
Ok I've taken the short time to check out those powers and that perk, seeing as I already knew you were getting it wrong, I just needed to know what was right: the different Dragon Shouts are not in words, unless there are somehow 5, but rather, as I expected, the damage is different. The perk simply negates 50% of any incoming attack except for the player, but I figure that must be noted somewhere on the dragon page. I do know that the dragon page just lists "Fire Breath" at every dragon with that power, but I KNOW they're not all the same fire breath, so that needs to change! But that's got nothing to do with this ~ Dwarfmp 17:26, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
Thanks! I'm changing the table style now anyway, didn't like how I had it before. :) --kiz email 17:27, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

IRC Privileges[edit]

Just FYI, IRC privileges expire if you don't log on for a long time (I can't find specific info, but I think it's about a month), which is why Alfwyn no longer has privileges. Robin Hoodtalk19:40, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

I figured it out in the end, I also got Krusty to fix some of the weird (my fault!) Half Op permissions that ABCFace and Skooma had! --kiz email 19:43, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
Oh, good idea! It's funny though, cuz I think we all have odd entries in a way. You should be able to do /cs HOP #uespwiki listand have a list of the half-ops show up, but it doesn't work. Neither do any of the other xOP commands. Before the changes, ABC and Skoomadid show up on the HOP list. <shrugs> Doesn't really matter, though.../cs flags #uespwiki shows a lot more detail. Robin Hoodtalk 02:46, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
I presumed that we were all set up that way because of the flags that were recieved, since /cs flags #uespwiki is much better than the than the other listing commands. I thought whilst I had Krusty i'd poke him about it :D --kiz email 14:49, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

Skyrim:Monsters[edit]

There is not set policy on "one image per creature" on that page. As you can tell from other pages, this is a normal and accepted practice. Your multiple reverts serve no discernible purpose. Please re-add the images. Thanks. elliot (talk) 21:51, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

I was under the impression (since its such a minimal page and not at all in the style of those that you pointed out) that it was supposed to be a brief summary of those, and that any seperate creature would have its own heading, and that those listed as variations were variations with very similar models. I would not consider Wisps to be a variation of Wisp Mothers per example and thus I believe it should have a different header. --kiz email 21:58, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
Actually, it's in the same exact style of the other pages because they're basically the same page but for different games. And as you can tell, obvious differences in appearances should be displayed on the wiki; it's why both images were taken by rpeh. Now, removing the images because you believe they should have a different header is counterproductive. Either add the other header and information to improve the page, or leave it like it is because removing the images hurts the page (it should be worth noting though, that the wisp and wispmother are documented under same header, as are the spriggan and spriggan matron). So, please, re-add them to the page.elliot (talk) 22:03, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

Objectives[edit]

Just moving this to the wiki in case anyone else wants to chime in. :) In regards to your comments in this diff, so far, I've been ignoring the "completes all objectives" or "fails all objectives" coding. They could be considered as completing or failing the quest, but I'm not sure how that differs from actually marking the stage as "completes quest" or "fails quest", which are checkboxes that appear in the CK totally separate from the code.

For the time being, I've also been leaving the blank entries that NepheleBot left on smaller pages and not putting the note at the bottom, but I'm kind of leaning towards doing it the way you did in the previous edit, but I'm thinking we should add a parameter to {{Journal Entries}} so that we can ensure the wording and formatting are consistent across the board.

I haven't been marking when objectives are completed since, for the most part, the start of one objective implies the completion of the previous one. That's not true in all cases, of course, but for those where it isn't, it's usually one overarching quest objective plus a bunch of smaller ones, which is fairly easy to figure out from the quest walkthrough. I'm open to changing that, but we'd have to figure out how to format it so it's not confusing...perhaps having different colours for "objective assigned" and "objective completed". (Probably yet another template to handle both cases, rather than constantly reusing Quest Comment...cuz there can never be too many templates. :Þ)

Lastly, if there are no objectives, then you can simply mark it as checked. The "objectives" are correct as written in that there are none, and it says there are none. Robin Hoodtalk 20:20, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

That parameter would make a nice addition! And, I don't know what the difference is, I was hoping perhaps you knew that :P I've only found one (Chop Wood) where there are no objectives, but I suspect thats because NephBot never edited it (if I recall correctly). I might make a personal note of them in a word.doc if I come across anymore - incase we decide at a later date to include them somehow! --kiz email 16:52, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, if I understand correctly, NepheleBot only created pages where there was either text in a quest stage or a quest objective. Except for very rare cases, anything that doesn't have one of those is likely to be just a quest for coding purposes and not something the player would usually be aware of. Bard's Leap Summit is a straightforward example of where a hidden quest is used, and it might actually be a candidate to consider overriding what NepheleBot did and actually display the quest stages. Something like the Thieves Guild progression is the more common example, though, where several very complex hidden quests and subquests are used and displaying those would be meaningless to anyone but modders and the like. Map Link Question[edit]

Hey, so I was wondering how you were able to place those markers on the Whiterun map that were linked to their respective places? I've noticed that the Markarth, Solitude, and Windhelm pages are currently lacking maps so I plan on changing that. So far, the only map for any of those three cities on this site is Windhelm and I would like to add it to the Windhelm page and get to be like the Whiterun map. --Jake-518 (talk) 10:13, 16 February 2013 (GMT)

See the following templates:{{Perk Tree}}, {{Perk Tree Setup}} and {{Image Mark}} for it, though the actual template doc is somewhat confusing you may just want to take a look at what i've already done for pointers. I wish you luck. --Kiz (email) 20:57, 8 April 2013

RC[edit]

Hello and welcome to UESPWiki! Thanks for your interest in the wiki; however, you seem to have been making multiple edits to a page by not using the show preview button, clogging up the Recent Changes in the process. We appreciate your enthusiasm, but keep in mind that each edit needs to be patrolled, so multiple consecutive edits create an unnecessary hassle on those who patrol. So please utilize this feature! You may also want to look over our style guide and Getting Started guide. Feel free to ask if you have any questions. :D -- Hargrimm(T) 01:01, 24 January 2014 (GMT)

Imperial Corruption[edit]

Hey Kiz. Not sure what's up with this image for the Imperial Corruption page - in the vanilla game, Audens Avidius is dressed in rags and wielding a dagger after he escapes prison. Was this image taken during normal gameplay? —Legoless (talk) 22:54, 11 February 2014 (GMT)

I setstaged through the quest to stage 100, which probably skipped his clothing change. I'll retake it tomorrow manually playing through the quest this time. I presumed that setstage'ing worked properly, but I didn't read the notes for it. By the games completely vanilla with only official patches (not even UOP). It's been that long since I played through Oblivion properly I can't remember a lot of the quests. --Kiz(email) 23:21, 11 February 2014 (GMT)
I've retaken the image (though I appear to have permanently damaged the quest ingame somehow in the process) and it should now be better, he is atleast wearing prison garb, even if i'm not quite sure they're exactly the right ones, and he appears to be completely lacking shoes for instance... --Kiz(email) 17:00, 12 February 2014 (GMT)

Ebony ingots[edit]

As stated in the summary in the article history, there is already a preceding contribution at the talk page, so your "please discuss on talk page some more" makes no sense. As stated in that contribution, the level at which ebony ingots can be bought from merchants is 20 (probably even lower). Also I have no idea what brings to your mind I would talk about some loot chests. Kind regards, --93.199.156.31 17:23, 19 February 2014 (GMT)

Thankyou for contacting me, I read the wrong section on the article's talk page, and do not have the current capabilities to find the information properly, only having Oblivion on PC and Skyrim on PS3, so I have no CK access. A Verification Needed tag has been added (thankyou Silencer) to the article to show readers its dubious and in discussion, someone will eventually find and correct the figure as needed. I'm sorry for reverting your edit if I was wrong, but someone will correct me before long since it's now been brought up on-article. --Kiz(email) 17:40, 19 February 2014 (GMT)
Well I just felt like correcting that value but of course a CK-verification is much more useful and precise than my sheer ingame experience, so your undo and Silencer's addition is welcome and I'll refrain from alter those values any further. Kind regards, --93.199.156.31 17:57, 19 February 2014 (GMT)
Just a note for you, that page has been updated to match testing results, General and Blacksmiths have different level requirements. --Kiz(email) 21:19, 19 February 2014 (GMT)

Sandbox[edit]

Just FYI, I'm splitting your Sandbox3 into subpages. The wiki seems to be having difficulty handling that size of page and keeps failing to accept my changes which, in turn, is causing the bot to fail. :-/ Robin Hood  (talk) 22:34, 19 April 2014 (GMT)

Well, that page has got me stumped. Something is causing it to fail to submit when it's all together, even now that it's basically just a bunch of transclusions. My best guess is that the formatting on some of the tables is incorrect, and while it's able to deal with it on individual pages, it's not able to when it's all on one page. I'll play with the sub-pages more later and see if I can get them to work, but for now, I want to finish the bot run and go have dinner. :) Robin Hood  (talk) 23:05, 19 April 2014 (GMT)

Some examples[edit]

Hello, I'm new here, I wanted to know if you can show me an example of how to write about this: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Battlehorn_Castle_Blacksmith_House (currently working on this) to make it follow the general style of articles. Unnatural (talk) 23:43, 17 September 2014 (GMT)

Templates for creating pages[edit]

I've recently starting using Beyond Skyrim - Bruma SE. I noticed that there is missing content, for example Armor and Weapons. I have been saving images and stats for those items with the thought of contributing to the Wiki. Is there a template page for armor or weapons that I can use to create some draft pages? for images, descriptions, stats, notes? Thanks Caelon (talk) 16:34, 30 January 2020 (GMT) (Alan)

Unfortunately for item pages the answer is no, we have an example of the infobox set up here. We don't generally create pages for normal items or armor, these would go on a page like this or this. The best advice would be to look at existing pages for the type that you're trying to create and taking a copy of those. Kiz(email) 02:42, 31 January 2020 (GMT)

Silvenari Sap-Stone[edit]

Just trying to give you guys an FYI for one of your pages, something I noticed while running around in ESO earlier today. The Lead for the Silvenari Sap-Stone, an Antiquity Furnishing, did drop for me from one of the bosses inside the Public Dungeon, Crimson Cove, in Malabal Tor. I would try to edit the page for you however I would more than likely do more harm and leave a big mess. On another note I truly enjoy your website, thanks for the hard work and information all of you have put together.

Gear set editing[edit]

Hello, I was wondering if I could just edit the gear that has been changed since update 27. I read on this page that anyone can edit, I just want to make sure. Also, if there is an error done would it be corrected by someone else. Thank you Ggreen (talk) 00:03, 2 September 2020 (UTC)

Hi, you’re right - anybody can edit. With gear set changes some are showing incorrect tool tips in game compared to their actual effects so I’d be a little careful for now. Errors in formatting will be picked up very quickly, errors in the values might take a little longer - someone will get to it though. Kiz (email) 06:23, 2 September 2020 (UTC)

Enhanced Build Tool[edit]

I am interested in developing a system that automates creating builds based on criteria choices of the user. What I would like to do is collaborate with somebody at UESPWiki to enhance the current build tool by allowing it to make suggestions based on preferences that players would input. I know how to do this in excel, but I do not have access to all the data for ESO Online.

As an example of the nitty gritty, I want people to be able to compare in way meaningful with mathematical underpinnings differences in abilities like a DoT and an instant cast spell. A DoT, in PvP for example, can be purged and some of the damage never materializes. ZOS has a weighing system reflected in the relative resource costs of both types of skills. My system would allow for you to easily compare the two, and even give more weight to certain characteristics of skills based on your preferences.

I did this for myself in Dark Ages of Camelot, but the variables were fewer at the time. Anyway, I know how to go about doing it, but I am not able to find a source for the data that I can dig into.

Yet almost all of the data is here on UESP, but heck if I know how to extract it to process it. Likewise, I would not know how to give the results back. I have the overall idea and the specific equations and algorithms involved but I just do not know how to get to the data beyond typing stats into Excel on my own.

Anyway, if you or anybody you know is interested, I would really like to see if I can put this into practice. — Unsigned comment by Akopian (talkcontribs) at 01:17 on 11 December 2020

Grotto Lotto?[edit]

Kiz

File:SR-map-Brinewater Grotto.jpg Looks an awful lot like Bloated Man's Grotto to me. I ask because I really want to know how you produced this awesome excellent clear amazing picture!! While in my heart I believe it to be Bloated Man's, that is piddle; I really really want to know how you did it? Your awestruck fan,

Kalevala (talk) 13:41, 30 April 2021 (UTC)

It was created using screenshots from the Creation Kit, I believe I used either 9 or 12 screenshots and then positioned them manually. If you're attempting to re-create this image style for other problematic zones (which was the reason for this one), it's worth noting it creates a better image to use smaller screenshots (not resolution, but size of individual capture vs. size of map proportionally) as they are slightly warped, and this is less noticeable to the eye the smaller they are, because the effect never stacks up for long enough. Kiz (email) 18:27, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
Thanks so much!! Kalevala (talk) 21:46, 30 April 2021 (UTC)

Easter Egg?[edit]

I wanted to ask someone about a potential easter egg before I go adding it to the Online page for Easter Eggs. There's a character called Vance in Fallout 3 (which game I had played in the distant past) who is very similar in attitude to that of an Online character, Verandis Ravenwatch. Some of their dialogue is even almost verbatim. I haven't played Online but I've read a lot about it and I can't help but think Verandis was based off of that Vance character. Thoughts? The address to the Fallout 3 page: https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Vance_(Fallout_3)

Thanks in advance. TheOutsider (talk) 22:53, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

At least part of the problem was that you used {{{ns_base}}} rather than {{NS_BASE}} (or, probably better, {{NS_FULL}}). The variable version ({{{ns_base}}}) is just a template variable like any other, so if it's not provided a default value ({{{ns_base|default}}} or explicitly set on every last call to the template, it'll show up as {{{ns_base}}}, which will break the links. The function ({{NS_BASE}}) looks at the variable, and if it's not defined, returns the current namespace. That's the one you most likely wanted. {{NS_FULL}} takes it a step further and adds a : or / as needed so that subspace links work correctly. That all being said, switching from NS_PARENT to either NS_BASE or NS_FULL will affect links to mod namespaces and subspaces in ways you probably didn't intend. NS_PARENT basically says that if you're in Bloodmoon space, for example, you should link to Morrowind pages rather than Bloodmoon pages, where NS_BASE and NS_FULL don't do that...they'd link to Bloodmoon. That would likely break a lot of links in those spaces.
What is it you're trying to do? Maybe I can give you suggestions. Robin Hood(talk) 22:07, 9 February 2024 (UTC)
For TR:Barilzar's Mazed Band, I was trying to get {{MW Spell Effect}} > {{Effect Link}} to display the spell effect icon defined in TR:Summon Fabricant. Salamangkero (talk) 09:36, 10 February 2024 (UTC)

How can I include treasure chests I have found and which are not on the map?[edit]
