Broken Ref[edit]

One of the lore book refs is not generating properly, and shows up in reference lists as, e.g.:

12. ^ [[Books:Lord of Souls|]] — Gregory Keyes

with a broken link to Books:Lord of Souls. This can be observed in the refs section at Lore:Chimer.

PS: The author name shouldn't be italicized, but the title of the book should be. This backward italics effect is probably a result of whatever is breaking the book link, though. 73.71.224.145 21:27, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

The broken references are a result of bad caching after a recent edit to the linked page. Purging the book page is usually enough to fix the issue, but sometimes a null edit is required. The italicization of the author is the style accepted by consensus on this website, only a proper discussion to change consensus can alter this style. Another instance of the same bug; different book by the same author, at Lore:Castle Ebonheart and Lore:Ebonheart

n. ^ [[Lore:The Infernal City|]] — Gregory Keyes

Fixed, thanks. It was a new template that wasn't saving all the necessary data. Robin Hood  (talk) 18:14, 22 April 2017 (UTC)

Italics[edit]

It seems to me that the italics for this template should be reversed. Italicize the book title and not the author. This is how most style guides cite books, unless the work is an article, poem, or something else short. At the very least, we should not be italicizing author names. —Dillonn241 (talk) 12:02, 31 October 2017 (UTC)

Makes sense to me, done. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 16:24, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
I don't disagree that it makes sense to some people, but the long term consensus view has been to leave the book title and italicize the author name for references. As this has been debated at length but always left it as is, I would have to ask that a full discussion take place before this massive appearance change that affects all our lore pages. I was expecting some discussion before any change was made, so TheRealLurlock's immediate change surprised me. Perhaps this needs to be moved to the community portal where it is more visible. Just for clarification, Silencer, are you support, oppose, or neutral? —Dillonn241 (talk) 08:01, 1 November 2017 (UTC)
