Possible bug with daedric artifacts comments[edit]
Sorry if it has been mentioned before or elsewhere, but I cannot find anything related to this. Happened to me after I got the Oblivion Walker achievement: with a new character that has not even got any daedric quest in her journal, the guards keep commenting about artifacts not in my possession. I'm sure I heard one of Volendrung's lines and one about the skull of corruption. Has anyone seen this happen? (the achievement could be unrelated, but it felt significant) Ytsejam91 20:55, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

Guard used my staffs against me..[edit]
i was in the Solitude Prison and i shouted and i backed up into the cell and he came in and gave me the whole my shouting is making people nervous blah blah blah... um.. i went to go out and then back in hoping they wouldnt notice.. they did and i got the Staff of Magnus used against me and my staff of Firebolts used against me.. lets just say that i didnt survive them. can anyone relate to this? 76.188.158.10 04:49, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
- NPCs are known to pick up any powerful weapons nearby, and although I haven't seen it in Skyrim yet in other Bethesda games I've seen NPCs take items out of containers. It's possible that this happened to you. I would've thought that guards would not be allowed to take from the item chests, but I guess not. It could be for added realism, or maybe the developers forgot about it. • JAT 08:26, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

- I can confirm that NPCs can take items out of containers in Skyrim. At some point I did something that made my follower Faendal leave my service and attack me and guards come into my house, and Faendal took the Staff of Magnus out of a dresser and used it on me.— Unsigned comment by 67.209.65.163 (talk) at 14:31 on 1 September 2012
Dialogue in wrong place?[edit]
"Well. I'll let it slide this time. But you'd be smart to take that off. Someone might get the wrong idea."
"Hmm. I still don't like it, but I guess I'll overlook it. This time."
I'm not sure, but I believe that these two dialogue entries are specific to Stormcloaks or Legionnaires if you enter one of their camps dressed in the opposition's armor. Can someone verify this? If it helps, CSList has them here. --Xyzzy Talk 01:41, 3 October 2012 (GMT)
"Don't like those eyes you got. They've got a bad hunger to them."[edit]
That's not a Dawnguard exclusive line, is it? — Unsigned comment by 80.137.238.147 (talk) at 08:15 on 17 October 2012
- It doesn't appear to be. CSList shows this dialogue as being from the Skyrim.esm file, and not added by Dawnguard. --Xyzzy Talk 13:27, 17 October 2012 (GMT)
Rename page to Guard Dialogue[edit]
It seems clear to me that this page was created as a place to list guards' passing dialogue. I think we should therefore rename it "Guard Dialogue" to better describe it, as well as make it easier to find. --Xyzzy Talk 05:55, 19 October 2012 (GMT)
- I think this is a good idea. The name "Guard Dialogue" would reflect the page content better than the current name... especially considering none of the dialogue is used by any NPC that's simply named "Guard"-- they generally have their city name as part of their name. On a slightly-related side note, as far as I know the only NPC's actually named "Guard" are the ones at Nilheim and only under certain conditions (they are regular bandits otherwise)... but I'm rambling... :P I support the rename idea. :) — ABCface◥ 07:08, 19 October 2012 (GMT)
- I was the one that transformed this page into a dialogue repository, but I agree, this page should probably be renamed. We ought to have an actual article for guards, though, explaining their purpose and their functions. • JAT 02:48, 20 October 2012 (GMT)
- Well, we have Whiterun Guard and Riften Guard and the like, but I suppose a [[Skyrim:Guards]] page as an overview is what you mean? That would probably be a good idea too. — ABCface◥ 03:14, 20 October 2012 (GMT)
- I like that idea. That would give wiki users a central place to find all things guard-related. --Xyzzy Talk 03:26, 20 October 2012 (GMT)
- I'd move this, and then edit the remaining redirect to be the generic Guard (not plural) page, similar to the Skyrim:Soldier page. Those Nilheim bandits would be here, again same as the Skyrim:Soldier page. We could have a See Also section linking to the more specific guard pages.
--DayDreamer (talk) 23:23, 26 October 2012 (GMT)- The Skyrim:Soldier page is for NPCs actually named "Soldier" in the game, not an overview about soldiers in general. I'm pretty sure that the only NPCs actually named simply as "Guard" in the game are the ones mentioned above, and only under certain conditions. [Skyrim:Guards] (plural) would be more appropriate for an overview page for that reason. We can easily use [Skyrim:Guard] as a disambig, [Skyrim:Guards] for the general overview page about guards, [Skyrim:Guard (NPC)] for those NPCs which are actually named "Guard" in the game (which is probably only those Nilheim ones), and [Skyrim:Guard Dialogue] for this page. Then, we could have links on the Guards overview page for the more specific guard pages (either in a See Also section or within the article). We can also use the {{About}} template on the various pages to aid navigation, and even add the [Skyrim:Guards] page as part of the {{trail}} for the specific guard pages. — ABCface◥ 02:47, 27 October 2012 (GMT)
- A month has gone by. There seems to be a plan (above), let's do it!

(←) OK, I give up. Psylocke (talk · contribs · email) leapt in and interfered with my edits and this plan.
--DayDreamer (talk) 12:39, 16 November 2012 (GMT)
- Nah, I don't think I'm interfering. I simply set up the basic pages, that's all. You can continue what you planned to do on them; still needs a lot of work. Currently I'm just changing the links on pages that are linking to the disambig page. ~ Psylocke 12:45, 16 November 2012 (GMT)
- Okay, DayDreamer proceeded with the page moves, and I have set up the disambig page, the (very basic) overview page and the Guard (NPC) page (for the Nilheim ones) as planned above. I have also converted several redirect pages to NPC pages (but there are still a few leftovers), and also corrected most links on pages that link to the disambig page. The overview page could use a nicer layout IMO, and also more content. And there's still the part about the trail and the {{About}} template. ~ Psylocke 15:33, 16 November 2012 (GMT)
"What is it? Dragons?"[edit]
Might be just me, but I'm pretty sure I've only gotten this comment when I'm sprinting through the streets. ie. It's your apparent urgency that triggers it? --124.171.101.12 03:47, 12 January 2013 (GMT)
- Doubt it. I've gotten that comment while talking to guards normally.99.108.100.228 22:14, 5 May 2013 (GMT)
Missing Dialogue and Dialogue Conditions[edit]
After reviewing some of the information on this page, I discovered two things - some dialogue is missing, and some of the dialogue conditions aren't correct. The vast majority of the dialogue found on this page comes from the Guard Faction (for dialogue) faction; however, there is dialogue to be found in other factions, especially Imperial- and Stormcloak-specific dialogue. The problem with the incorrect dialogue conditions is my fault, actually - when I made this page, I didn't know how to check for dialogue conditions, and instead made educated guesses. A good number of them are correct, but someone needs to go through and confirm them. I'm posting this here because even though this is kind of my project, this is a significant task, and the soonest I can get working on it is in two weeks. If any user is feeling motivated enough to take on this task, then by all means do so, but otherwise I'll do this in a short while. • JAT 16:18, 12 March 2013 (GMT)
Confused about Talk Page links[edit]
I'm new to editing this wiki, and there's something I'm confused about. Why are there links on the GD page that link to the talk page, when those issues haven't even been addressed on the talk page yet?64.135.48.170 15:03, 6 May 2013 (GMT)
- That's just the generic {{vn}} template--it sends you to the talk page even if there isn't a related section. If you have any information, you can always start the section yourself :) Vely►t►e 15:10, 6 May 2013 (GMT)
- Thanks:) Also, does anybody know what some of the "various reasons" are for why certain lines are never spoken by the guards? For example, the guards never refer to me as thane.64.135.48.170 15:18, 6 May 2013 (GMT)
"If it's a fight you want, I'm ready this time"[edit]
Why does it say "verification needed" for this dialogue's conditions? I don't think this dialogue can be heard without attacking the guard first. — Unsigned comment by 99.108.100.228 (talk) at 07:36 on 14 June 2013
- It says verification needed because "I think" isn't good enough :P It needs to be confirmed by looking at the construction kit at what precisely is required. Jeancey (talk) 07:57, 14 June 2013 (GMT)
Both Hands[edit]
The guards say "The gods gave you two hands, and you use them both for your weapon. I can respect that." if you are dual wielding two one-handed weapons as well as if you have a two-handed weapon equipped. Bolter1 (talk) 18:22, 2 August 2013 (GMT)
- This dialogue is not about what you have equipped, it's about your skill level. You could have anything (or nothing) equipped in both hands and hear this remark from a guard, just as long as your Two-handed skill is 30 or better. --Xyzzy Talk 04:18, 9 August 2013 (GMT)
All ingame?[edit]
Are those lines all taken from the game files, or actually written down from the game? Because, at least the 'nighttime' and 'thane' lines, I have never heard ingame.. WooShell (talk) 14:39, 16 November 2014 (GMT)
- They are all from the game files; I found most of them here, so they do include a handful of lines that are very rarely heard in the game. The 'nighttime' line is only heard from Riften guards between 19:00 and 4:00, and the 'thane' lines are only heard from Riften guards if you completed I Done Got Thaned!. At least according to the dialogue files, there's no reason they shouldn't be spoken. • JAT 10:23, 18 November 2014 (GMT)
"You've got a lot of nerve, walking around here dressed like an Imperial Legionnaire"[edit]
The only place I'm ever seeing this is in Stormcloak camps, not from the soldiers who have replaced the city guards. Oddly enough only the female soldiers are giving me this dialogue, even the injured ones in the makeshift infirmary tents. After this I'm given an approaching-Aldis-in-Stormcloak-armor-esque choice, except the wrong answer just turns the entire camp hostile. Perhaps someone not using the Civil War Overhaul mod could doublecheck this. Schiffy (Speak to me|What I've done) 05:24, 21 April 2015 (GMT)
One line missing[edit]
I heard it for the first time since 2011, but in Whiterun guard once said, as I walked nearby: "If it's a fight you want - I am ready this time". No mods installed, except "official unofficial patch" ;-) --162.216.46.54 20:48, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
- That line ("If it's a fight you want, I'm ready this time.") is in the group for greetings for people you have assaulted before, and is unique only to those with MaleNordCommander voices. There are 26 named people and 7 generic NPCs that can speak that line. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 22:05, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
Provides new location[edit]
Seems the section of dialog that adds a map marker (not quest related) needs to be looked through for the requirements. There is definitely one location from the Whiterun Guards and one location from the Riften Guards that don't happen right away. Both deal with dragons appearing at a location so it would make sense the dialog doesn't appear until at least after Dragon Rising, but would need someone to look in construction set to confirm. There may be a couple more in other cities, I haven't checked them all, I just talked to a guard in Whiterun, Falkreath and Riften repeatedly until they say nothing but "What is it?". Bamspeedy (talk) 20:52, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
I don't know how this happened...[edit]
I started a brawl with a guy outside Riften and a guard interfered. Now whenever I pass by that guard, she says, "I don't want to get hurt again!" — Unsigned comment by 96.4.94.251 (talk) at 18:43 on 21 March 2018
- "Don't come near me! I don't want to get hurt again." This line is spoken by someone you have previously assaulted, but only those with MaleCoward voicetypes. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 19:14, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
"Word is Elenwen's furious..."[edit]
Just had a Riften guard say this to me, despite that the article here says "only solitude." I think it should be changed to say "only imperial-aligned", because I'd already completed the Civil War, so all the guards in Riften were Imperial soldiers.174.28.86.89 03:16, 8 October 2019 (GMT)
- I've checked the dialogue conditions, and gone through every guard that can trigger it, and they're verifiably all in Solitude. The two most likely explanations are that it's a mod that's allowing the wrong guards to say the line, or it's a hard-to-detect bug. Mods are the more likely explanation, but if you can get the guard to say the line again with no mods enabled, then it's a bug. In that case, I would need more details to track it down, like which specific guard it was and anything else that you think might be relevant. – Robin Hood (talk) 05:00, 8 October 2019 (GMT)
