Quick Walkthrough[edit]
Note: This quest only becomes available if you give The Reach to the Stormcloaks during Season Unending.
- Report for duty to Legate Rikke at the Reach Imperial Camp.
- Join the Legion soldiers gathering for the attack.
- Clear the fort of Stormcloak rebels.
Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
Report for Duty[edit]
When speaking to General Tullius he will make a bitter comment about your decision to give up The Reach during Season Unending: "Hurry over to our military camp tucked away in the Reach. Ulfric's been enjoying those silver mines for far too long. And, soldier. You better help win me back Markarth, or die trying. It was your brilliant strategy to give it over to the rebels in the first place." Legate Rikke can now be found at the Reach Imperial Camp, northeast of Markarth. She will give you orders to rendezvous with a group of Imperial soldiers preparing to attack Fort Sungard and to assist in the assault.
Join the Soldiers Preparing the Assault[edit]
Fort Sungard is located far east of Markarth, and the soldiers are waiting just northeast of the fort. As you approach the group, they will draw their weapons and take off on a running pace towards the fort entrance.
Take the Fort[edit]
Assist your fellow soldiers in clearing the fort of Stormcloak rebels while the game updates you with the percentage of enemies remaining. The battle takes place in the exterior parts of the fort only, in the courtyard and on the walls.
Once you have killed all Stormcloak rebels, the quest will be completed. The Reunification of Skyrim quest will update and prompt you to return to General Tullius to report your success and receive your reward.
Achievements[edit]
One achievement is unlocked at the end of this quest:
- War Hero (10 points/Bronze) — Capture Fort Sungard or Fort Greenwall
If you did not give The Rift to the Imperials during Season Unending, you will already have gotten this achievement from The Battle for Fort Greenwall.
Notes[edit]
- Corpses will disappear shortly after death, so you may wish to loot them as you go to avoid missing out.

Notes
- Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g.,
<Alias=LocationHold>
) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game. - Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
- If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
- On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering
setstage CWFortSiegeFort stage
, wherestage
is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest usingresetquest CWFortSiegeFort
