Confused about interracial aspects[edit]

Why is the Grey Prince an Orc, but Lord Lovidicus isn't? Yoppula 00:57, 1 March 2007 (EST)

Because the Gray Prince's mother was an Orc. The fact that it was an interracial relationship was a pretty major theme in the quest's storyline. --Nephele 01:10, 1 March 2007 (EST)
Also, from Notes on Racial Phylogeny, mixed offspring usually have the traits of the mother, but some traces of the father may also be present. And I imagine that any diseases/conditions (in this case, vampirism) would probably be passed on as well. Th232 03:18, 1 March 2007 (EST)

Dark Brotherhood[edit]

  • I killed Agronak in the arena, with out completing this quest and i was contacted by the Dark Brotherhood anyways, so it worked for me. Im gonna go back to my old saved game and finish the quest though id like the upgrade. -moved by Lordsword 8 06:29, 12 April 2007 (EDT), posted originally by 142.179.204.62.

Could someone trying to play a good guy finish this quest, kill Argonak in the Arena, and end up in the Dark Brotherhood without "murdering" someone? --Zander490 01:47, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

mabye a frenzy spell would work?--GUM!!! 01:56, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
I think what he means is when you tell Agronak about his father and he simply stands there in the Arena and lets you kill him. Usually there's no need to use Frenzy, he already wants to lop your head off anyway. --SerCenKing Talk 08:19, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Mistakes in the Article[edit]

The article says:

Bring cure disease potions or spells if possible as you may catch something from one of the denizens of this forlorn place.

Which is quite hilarious to me, seeing as I did this quest at level 2. The only 'denizens' I came across were 2 skeletons outside, and a rat and a few dogs inside, none of which were diseased. Please someone mention that diseased creatures only appear in the fort after level X.

The article also mentions that the vampire inside does not drop 'Vampire Ashes'. 'Vampire Ashes' do not exist in Oblivion, but Lord Lovidicus does drop Vampire Dust (or at least he did during my level 2 excursion). Does he cease to drop them at a higher level? --Marshmello 19:34, 22 August 2007 (EDT)

The enemies you encounter in Crowhaven are leveled and randomly determined. The article on Crowhaven provides more specific details, but basically it's just luck that you did not encounter any vampires while you were there; at the same level, with the same character, you could just as easily have encountered five vampires.
I've fixed the article to say "Vampire Dust" instead of "Vampire Ashes"; thanks for pointing that out. But I can't see any evidence that Lovidicus ever drops Vampire Dust (in the construction set it's not in his inventory, and it's not a "death item" that appears when he dies), and I know when I did this quest I didn't find any Vampire Dust. So I'm not sure why you would have found some... unless possibly you're using a mod like the Unofficial Oblivion Patch. --NepheleTalk 20:22, 22 August 2007 (EDT)
Thank you for the clarification. I have been using a few vampire mods, one of them must have changed the contents of Lovidicus's inventory. --Marshmello 18:17, 23 August 2007 (EDT)
Vampires and undead are only found in the Burial Halls, the first zone has only wolves/timber wolves and rats. I've done this quest like 40-50 times at different levels(1-40) and not once have I encountered vampires in the first zone, except Lord Lovidicus of course.
Speaking of Lord Lovidicus, while the quest is active if you sneak up on him, charm him enough to have a conversation with him and speak to him he'll say, "Release! Sweet release! After all these years, all these decades, I am finally free! And you! So...so fresh! I must feed! I must feed! Agghhhhh!" Obviously you can immediately yield to him if you want to. If you let him survive the quest and then come back and charm him again, you can ask him for rumors. --Sundaroct131088 15:40, 4 September 2007 (EDT)

Fame[edit]

There may be an error in the article since it says that you receive +1 fame for completing this quest, but I have received no fame for completing the quest. 71.116.162.229 15:08, 20 November 2007 (EST)

You're right. Nothing in the CS indicates there's a fame point and your experience seems to confirm it. Thanks for that! --RpehTCE 15:25, 20 November 2007 (EST)

Lord Lovidicus Dialog[edit]

Something I'd like to add to the Notes: if you are able to somehow make Lord Lovidicus yield combat and talk to him, he gives you a scripted response reveling about his newfound freedom, but desiring some fresh blood first... then you return to combat.

To get him to talk, I assume high enough of a Personality may do it. In my case, a combo Calm/Charm spell got him to yield and converse. I assume the Charm effect is all one really needs to do it.

If someone could take a look at the files for the specific dialog, I'd appreciate it if this were included into the article.Dark Spark 23:13, 15 December 2007 (EST)

Done. —RpehTCE 03:00, 16 December 2007 (EST)

Gray price dead - get into Crowhaven?[edit]

if you were to start the quest and get the key and then kill the gray price without finishing the quest could you still go kill his father?--Marleysexton 12:37, 27 February 2008 (EST)

No. At least not in the way you describe. Lord Lovidicus will not be present in the game, until you have progressed up to entering Crowhaven. When you enter, and Agronak gro-Malog is still alive, he will be enabled. So if you kill Agronak (you will receive a journal entry about it) before entering Crowhaven, Lovidicus will never appear. --Timenn < talk > 13:14, 27 February 2008 (EST)

How could the stat bonus matter?[edit]

In the article it says "If you completed the quest, but don't want the Gray Prince's Training ability messing up your stats...". Could someone explain to me why his +3 increases would make any undesirable difference? Thanks. — Unsigned comment by 161.150.2.56 (talk) on 1 July 2008

It couldn't matter. I deleted the comment from the article — Unsigned comment by 58.164.76.20 (talk) on 5 December 2008
Sorry, but it can matter. See the comments at Oblivion:Free Skill Boosts#Abilities. Please don't delete information from articles just because you don't understand it. --NepheleTalk 09:49, 15 December 2008 (EST)
I'm not sure if it'll do this, but normally, if a skill is fortified, you can only get it to 100. But if it's 100 after fortification, you can't become a Master of that skill. Usually, you just drop the item that's fortifying, but you can't drop the Grey Prince's training. AznWarlord 11:12, 1 January 2009 (EST)

The thing is: the stats bonusses do not count as skill training if you look at it from a leveling point of view. Tipttt 17:46, 29 May 2009 (EDT)

Fixing "Broken" Skills in UOP after Grey Prince Training[edit]

When one equips enchanted equipment which affects a skill positively, the number associated with the skill in the skill level window increases and changes color from blue to green. If the skill is affected negatively, it changes color to red. I recently found that some of my skills were damaged and the damage wasn't wearing off.(I assumed that it should wear off; I may have been wrong there) So I used the Unofficial Oblivion Patch thinking it would fix these broken skills. It did fix them back to defaults but I hadn't considered that I was wearing enchanted gear and the effects of that gear might also be removed. I unequipped the gear, found my skill numbers to be red and fixed the skills again. Now I could re-equip and get the bonuses that those enchanted items give me, but I noticed that my grey prince training was essentially canceled out by this because I couldn't unequip it before fixing my skills. Since we're providing notes about all the bugs that the UOP fixes, wouldn't it be consistent to mention this bug that is created as well? And further, though I don't want to imply that I think of this site as a resource for UOP help, is there a way to keep it from canceling out the Grey Prince Training? Might it be possible to find out if it's canceling out my wood elf's natural disease resistance?--24.211.221.221 21:14, 10 September 2008 (EDT)

I'm not sure I quite understand your problem, but I don't think it's the UOP causing it. It sounds like you had some damaged skills and should have used Restore spells / potions, or visited an altar to fix them. If you still have the GP's training in your active effects list then you can use the console to boost whatever skills are below their correct values - player.advskill blade, 3 or whatever. –RpehTCE 03:18, 11 September 2008 (EDT)
I'll try to make this clear with an example. Let's say you have a Blade skill of 50. You have not yet finished Origin of the Gray Prince. You equip an enchanted item that increases Blade by 7. Your Blade skill is now at 57(green). If you use the UOP to "fix broken stats", it will set your Blade back at 50(blue). You can then unequip the enchanted item and your Blade skill will be at 43(red). This is fine. You just have to remember that you should unequip everything before using "fix broken stats". So, you fix your stats again back to 50 and equip the enchanted item and your blade is at 57(green) again.
Then, you finish the Origin of the Gray Prince quest and get + 3 to Blade, Block, and Athletics. Your Blade is now at 60(green). Now I can't really be sure in my current game, but I would guess that if you fixed your stats at this point, your Blade skill would go back down to 50. It's not a problem that fixing stats requires you to unequip enchanted items, but since the Gray Prince Training is a permanent effect, it can't be removed prior to "fixing stats". That's the problem. I can't be sure that the Gray Prince Training doesn't change your base skill, but I know that I have the training and my stats aren't green when I think they should be.
I suspect you're right about my skills being damaged and I should have visited an altar or used potions. Would "Damage Willpower" show up in my effects window? I didn't see it there which is why I thought it was broken to begin with.
Anyone who fixes stats after getting Gray Prince Training could certainly use player.skilladv or more likely setav to avoid level ups, but it will never look like the effect is active and the solution could be more elegant. --66.179.240.112 13:54, 11 September 2008 (EDT)
Update- Turns out the Gray Prince Training is not treated like an effect and does actually change the base numbers of the three skills permanently. It is not affected by Fixing Broken Skills. So this whole discussion is pointless. Feel free to delete it if you so wish.--24.211.221.221 03:33, 13 September 2008 (EDT)

Human Blood[edit]

I was looking for a way to get Human Blood without stealing, the Thieves guild, or Dark Brotherhood. I stumbled upon a wiki that said that Human blood was present in Crowhaven, but it doesn't seem to be. Can anyone confirm this, or am I looking in the wrong place? 24.233.128.66 21:12, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

Agh![edit]

Help! I used the console in the fort before the quest to unlock the door. And got the book. Now when i try to talk the grey prince, i cant say anything as there is no dialog. Can someone help me — Unsigned comment by 70.190.235.123 (talk) on 8 May 2010

hmm...even though i play on the 360 i think you have to use the quest command....(i don't really know the codeing of it...)--GUM!!! 14:38, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

Moved Bug[edit]

I have removed the following entry from the Bugs section:

"It is possible to complete the quests without murder or Dark Brotherhood invitation if the Skull of Corruption is used."

because it is unclear in its present form. What exactly must be done with the skull to circumvent the Dark Brotherhood involvement? If an explanation could be provided, perhaps it would merit being included on the article. Furthermore, if this is true, it seems more appropriate to include in a note, rather than an entry in the bugs section, since it does not seems as if it would impede quest progress or general gameplay.

If anyone feels I am mistaken in removing it, feel free to let me know. Facebag 18:02, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

The Skull of Corruption creates copies of npcs, which are considered "wild" creatures, and therefore the npcs will attack the clone. Since using the spell on a character confers no bounty, and you are not the one doing the killing, it allows you to kill people without actually killing them yourself. There's more on the skull of corruption article. --Pwnageincarnate 03:06, 12 January 2011 (UTC)Pwnageincarnate
If that is the case, then shouldnt that be included in the page as being a helpful way of avoiding a murder?--68.60.16.174 18:17, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Moved notes[edit]

  • Lord Lovidicus can be damaged by luring him outside into the sun. He temporarily gets a red glow, and his skin steams. However, sun damage is apparently applied differently than on the player - rather than updated every second, it is only applied once when he steps outside. Therefore, it is impossible to kill him using the sun.
  • Lord Lovidicus also does not seem to recognize other vampires as inedible, so he will still attack you if you are a vampire.
  • If you later challenge Agronak in the Arena he won't attack, wanting to be killed instead because of his vampiric origin. See Grand Championship for details. This can be exploited to raise many skills by adjusting the difficulty to maximum. He can even be healed with magic when his health starts to get low, so this could continue indefinitely.
  • If you completed the quest, but don't want the Gray Prince's Training ability messing up your stats, you can get rid of it (on the PC version) with the console command player.removespell CBF19.

I've been pruning notes from the quest pages. Leave a message here before you reinstate any of them please. --AKB Talk 16:45, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Question[edit]

I killed Agronak after completing his quest, and Dark Brotherhood aproached to me. Is there a way of not counting this as murder, and getting rid of "Blade of Woe" without joining to Dark Brotherhood?--78.30.151.242 12:35, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

wrong page but if you kill lachance when he first approaches you the blade of woe becomes non quest and you cant join the brotherhood at all (Eddie the head 13:00, 9 May 2011 (UTC))

Gray Prince rumours[edit]

After you complete this quest, some people, specifically in the Imperial City will have a new rumour, something along the lines of "Did you hear? It turns out Agronak-gro-Malog, the Gray Prince, is actually half vampire! It's almost to horrible to imagine!" I don't think it's exactly those words but it's pretty close. It goes away after you defeat the GP in battle. It hasn't been noted on either this or the GP page. If somebody can find out the exact rumour, it would be a good addition. RIM 21:01, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

The exact wording is "The Gray Prince is nothing but a fake. Haven't you heard? His father was a vampire! He's no Orc. He's a monster. Someone should put him down." It only occurs after this quest is complete and if the person speaking is an Imperial (but not Lucien Lachance). rpeh •TCE 05:45, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
I haven't heard that one but the one I'm talking about is a different on where the person is genuinly shocked to hear he is half vampire. I heard it from the owner of the merchants inn if that helps. RIM 17:37, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

Malog = Molag?[edit]

Could be a reference to Molag Bal, the god of vampires. 70.238.139.188 03:09, 24 February 2014 (GMT)

It is fairly close, but the name follows fairly standard Orc naming conventions (see Orc Names). Thus, it would be speculation to say that it was an intended reference. Forfeit (talk) 21:29, 25 February 2014 (GMT)
