"This is where it will begin. A new uprising." —Madanach[1]

Druadach Redoubt is a Reachfolk bastion and forge located in the Druadach Mountains in the Reach, southeast of the Dwemer ruins of Bthar-Zel.[2][3] The cavern within was known as the Druadach Redoubt Cave, which was abundant in iron and quicksilver ore. Various plants and fungi grew within and around the fortifications, including nightshade, hanging moss, blue mountain flowers, mora tapinella, juniper trees, and potatoes.[2]

Second Era[edit]

Druadach Redoubt Forge circa 2E 582

During the Three Banners War in the Second Era, the redoubt was home to a forge with special properties. It was fortified in typical Reachfolk fashion. The weapons crafted there were imbued to enhance the potency of the poisons they were coated in.[3][4] It was one of many special crafting sites scattered across Tamriel, known to provide unique effects to weapons, armor, and jewelry created in such places.[5][6][7] The creative skill of the smiths who have worked these forges has imbued those sites with the divine spark of creativity, transforming the local reality such that items crafted there possess certain unique attributes.[8] Some of those places were known to contain lingering arcane power.[9]

At that time, despite the region being under the control of the Reachfolk, Nords would occasionally venture into the area.[10] Nordic raiders who targeted indigenous population of the Reach utilized a location nearby as a hideout for storing the spoils acquired during their raids. The Wand of Bone, a revered Reachfolk artifact associated with Hircine, was intended to be stored in that location, but it never reached the destination, and was eventually restored to its lawful owners at the Shrine of the Hunt-Father in Markarth.[11][12][13]

Fourth Era[edit]

King Madanach

In the years leading to 4E 201, a faction of the Forsworn had established a stronghold in the Druadach Redoubt. This particular redoubt stood among the more sizable enclaves held by the Forsworn in the region.[2][14]:512 Accounts varied regarding the destiny of King Madanach, with certain reports suggesting that he had orchestrated activities from Druadach Redoubt following his escape from captivity in the Cidhna Mine. From there, he allegedly planned a new uprising. However, contrasting narratives asserted that he had met his demise while imprisoned.[1][2][15]
