Azra's Crossing (render)

Azra's Crossing is a village that was built in close proximity to a large magically-made crater, located in the region known as the Western Reach that is bordered by the provinces of Hammerfell, High Rock, and Skyrim. While isolated, the settlement has a water source in the form of a waterfall that flows into the crater. Azra’s Crossing also lies southwest of Earthtear Caverns.

History[edit]

The town was built after the first Shadowmage Azra Nightwielder attempted to merge all versions of himself across the multiverse. This process became complicated when Redguard soldiers, fearing the power he would command should he succeed, surrounded him in northern Hammerfell. During the fight, Azra lost control of his magic, resulting in a large crater being formed at the battlefield. Afterwards, Azra disappeared, causing people to ponder his fate. Eventually the town of Azra's Crossing would be founded near the crater and was named in the shadowmage's honor.[1]

Many years later, during the Imperial Simulacrum, the Soul of Conflict’s destiny began when their home village of Azra's Crossing was attacked by bandits during the War of the Bend'r-mahk. The hero traced the bandits back to their hideout northwest of the city of Azra’s Crossing and wiped them out. Inside the bandit lair was the Bosmer shadowmage, Skelos Undriel, who revealed the machinations of Jagar Tharn. Tharn sought to fuel the War of the Bend’r-mahk as fuel to manifest an entity known as the Umbra' Keth, the Shadow of Conflict. The hero would then set out on their journey to stop the Umbra’ Keth’s shadows from potentially swallowing Hammerfell by seeking the legendary Star Teeth, eventually discovering Azra Nightwielder, as well as an ally of Jagar Tharn, Pergan Asuul. After recovering the Star Teeth, Azra’s Crossing was used as a staging ground prior to the hero’s descent into the Umbra’ Keth’s lair, the Crypt of Hearts. It was here that the hero returned to after banishing the beast, as well as the place of the last known sighting of Azra Nightwielder, who departed to continue his journey.[2]

Notes[edit]

  • The settlement of Martyr's Crossing that was in existence during the Interregnum shares a similar name to Azra's Crossing and is also found on the west side of a lake in the Western Reach, but it is unclear if they are the same location.
