"Daggerfall Modern Control" patch[edit]
I'm using a "Daggerfall Modern Control" patch that I downloaded somewhere.. it gives the mouse much more control and works great. I'm not sure where you can get this patch but if you google it there are several mentions of it and I highly recommend it. Dragonalumni 05:33, 17 February 2009 (EST)
Diagonal Movement[edit]
Is there anything to fix the whole "moving forward makes you move a tad to the left" thing? 98.232.157.119 05:15, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
- At present, all one can do is use the DOSBox emulator. While the VDMSound emulator will ensure all music and sound f/x functions correctly, parts of the game are improperly bound to CPU speed. These include walking/sneaking, climbing, and swimming. --Uniblab 07:22, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
-
- This problem will occur when you use the "look around" button, which allows you to look down at the floor, up at the ceiling/sky, and also to the left and right using your mouse. If you do not get your view exactly centered after looking right and left, it will make you move diagonally. To fix this hit the "center/re-center view" button (by default it is "5" on the number pad I believe).173.209.212.202 03:28, 6 February 2015 (GMT)
DDFQL.exe only for Windows 95?[edit]
But what if I run it using DosBox 0.73 (XP)? Is that possible? Can it simulate Windows 95? Thanks in advance! SwedishBerzerker at youtube.com 11:43, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
- If a program was written exclusively for Win95/98, you will get a notification if you try to start it from a DOS-Prompt, try it an see for yourself. By the way, many of the old tools that where written for Win95/98 can be run under XP.--PLRDLF 12:29, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
- I remember this specific program and it can be used only under Win95/98. So if you have no true Win95/98 OS it's not possible to use it with XP because of the infamous invisible quest object bug under XP.--PLRDLF 12:46, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Installing addons and plugins...?[edit]
How do you install these files into the Daggerfall directory??? All these file types and stuff make absolutely no sense to me! ~Eirreann of Vvardenfell, 7 June 2010 21:42 - 72.49.168.229
- You should have a folder in your C drive called "DAGGER" (or, whatever you called it and wherever you installed Daggerfall). When it says "Move into the directory and execute", it means copy the file into the Dagger folder and run the file (should be some sort of .exe file that will autopatch your game). If you're using the Bethesda download version, you likely already have the game patched. --Tim Talk 21:57, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
Error 116[edit]
Hi, I have installed daggerfallSetup.exe with all of the official/unofficial patch/addquest etc. options checked. The game runs fine, but when I talk to an NPC who is known to give out quests, the game sometimes crashes with error 116. A previous post for this error is answered by the dag213.exe fix. I tried this, but then it made the game unstable to run. Is it the opinion of readers here that the error is caused by one of the unofficial addons? If not, would it be fatal towards actual completion of the game? Lmstearn 13:46, 17 July 2010 (UTC)
- Hello,
Try to re-install DaggerfallSetup and uncheck all unofficial Contents related to quests. If after, the NPC can Talk, try to install contents one by one with test each time for find where is the bugged content. --Ancestral Ghost 06:18, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
No Experience points after level 2[edit]
Hi there, As a level 2 Woodelf Bard, my experience points in the Character pane do not display,- not even <zero / next level> points. Have completed a few quests, killed monsters, etc. Is there a way to get this going again? Cheers, Laurie Lmstearn 21:59, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

New game and patches/fixes[edit]
If we download the new game, do we also need to download any of the patches and unofficial fixes? — Unsigned comment by 82.8.192.142 (talk) at 02:34 on 1 January 2012
- For those who might be still interested in an answer: Patch 2.13 + DOS32A = Almost flawless game, at least from my experience. From 2008 to 2010 I've played the game at least with four different characters using DOS32A and only encountered one minor glitch (not even a real bug) which was easily fixed with FIXSAVE. A small side-note, also from my experience, FIXSAVE seems to be rather useless with the latest patch 2.13, maybe it was more useful in previous versions. If one encounters a bug in v2.13 it's rather certain that this can not be fixed with FIXSAVE in most cases. In the latest patch there is no serious Main-Quest breaking bug (for details see the notes in the walkthrough), so if one doesn't want to install FIXQS001 and DFQFIX for some reason, he doesn't have to. Although I put some efforts into DFQFIX back then. Third-party quests are another matter though, some seem to be rather buggy at least from what I've read and I haven't played any of them myself, although some look quite interesting.--PLRDLF 15:45, 9 January 2012 (UTC)
Request for CD[edit]

DaggerfallSetup issues.[edit]
The latest DaggerfallSetup by Ancesteral Ghost has some issues that are repeatable in my experience. There seems to be a bug within the unofficial fix files, as while using them any spell maker is completely unusable and crashes to desktop when pressing the "Add Effect" button. I do not know which one is responsible.
Also, I don't know if this is related, but while doing certain Temple quests (this occurs randomly and I don't know precisely what quest or quests), the game will crash when receiving your reward. Not only that, but it will corrupt all future quests for any guild in the same manner and will make it impossible to fast travel to any far away place such as Wayrest as it will crash to desktop upon arrival. Don't know if this is related to the unofficial fixes, but it does happen on vanilla Daggerfall quests while using them.
While not using any unofficial files outside of the DOS extender the game runs perfectly fine. Hopefully this helps someone who is having the same problems!

- Hello, I can try to fix theses problems.
Did you play in English or other language ?
Are unofficial quest packs installed ?
For the quest crash bug, it's maybe DFQFIX. For the spell bug, It's maybe MAGIC.DEF Fix. Have you theses bugs again if you install the game with only theses contents unchecked ?
Thanks.--Ancestral Ghost 18:06, 24 June 2012 (UTC)- Ok, so here's my setup. I install the game using English, I uncheck all unofficial quests, and I tried installs with MAGIC.DEF unchecked and one with SPELL.STD unchecked. Both installs ended with the spell maker still crashing when pressing Add Effect. I haven't had much time to check how the quest issue is without just DFQUESTFIX, but my install without DFQFIX and all those unofficial quest packs runs fine and I haven't had any problems. — Unsigned comment by 72.78.24.233 (talk) at 06:21 on 27 June 2012
- Thanks. When you installed the vanilla Daggerfall, the "Add spell bug" occurred ?
I contacted the DFQFIX author, he maybe have a solution for the quest problem.--Ancestral Ghost 06:30, 27 June 2012 (UTC)- AHA! I found the culprit for the Add Effect bug, when DagSkills is unchecked at install the bug disappears! Must be something wrong with that fix then. — Unsigned comment by 72.78.24.233 (talk) at 07:02 on 27 June 2012

- Hi, I find what was wrong with DagSkill and I fixed it. You can download new version of DaggerfallSetup. The quest bug is still unfixed.--Ancestral Ghost 18:41, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
- Any progress with the quest crash yet? I'm having similar issues with the guy above. It's totally game-breaking for me and pretty systematic. It looks like after the 5th or 6th successful quest I'm getting the crash-on-reward-screen bug and from then on the game can't be played (no more quest rewards possible).
-
- I noticed the same behaviour also when I only had installed (clicked) official Daggerfall + DOS extender, so it appears to be some issue with Daggerfall itself (?) or could it be DOSBOX configuration (memory-related?). Then I realised my DaggerfallSetup.exe was a year old and there has been a very recent new version, which I downloaded today to give it a try. My old save game just before reporting to the quest giver (played with last year's DaggerfallSetup.exe, DF+DOS extender clicked only) still crashes upon trying to exit the reward screen. (the instalation I tried today is also DF+DOS extender clicked only, but with recent DaggerfallSetup.exe). I don't know if it's worth trying to start a new game with this installation of today to see whether the bug disappears!

- These are my symptoms. Any suggestions?

- I've seen it in several quests (at least 3 or 4) from several places (mage's guild or shopkeepers). I've also seen it BOTH in full installation AND just Daggerfall + DOSBOX ext (so that's BOTH with DFQFIX AND without it). So it seems to be quest-independent and questgiver-independent. It just looks like my game won't go beyond 5 quests. It's weird if I'm the only one seeing it :-(. I did try FIXSAVE a couple of times with no success. Thanks for the reply anyway.--176.58.189.23 16:01, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

- Not werewolf or wereboar - besides, I've started a few games (3-4) in the last few days and encountered the same thing in all of them. I tried the memsize too. Made it 128, didn't help with existing savegame. Maybe I can do that and try playing a new game, although it's getting boring! Well, thanks for the suggestions so far, if you think of anything else I can give it a try.--176.58.189.23 16:34, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

I have been having a similar problem, when i complete a random guild quest, the "Good Job!" message displays, and when i try to exit the game freezes, and the DOSBox status window shows a series of Illegal Read Errors. Unlike the earlier questions about diagonal movement, I actually want to be able to move diagonally. Updating to 2.13[edit]
I recently found out that my Daggerfall, which I got as part of the Elder Scrolls Anthology, is not the latest patch. I have now downloaded the latest patch, 2.13, and moved it to the directory named "daggerfall" but when I try to execute it I get a message stating that the file can't be found. Using Daghex2f with Windows 8 (instructions)[edit]
I'm posting how I managed to get Daghex2f to work on Windows 8 since the page only lists a bunch of editors without any way of actually getting them to work (quite useless the way it is).
NOTE: Although I did change my character's attributes successfully, I can't guarantee it's completely safe. Copy/backup your savegame just in case!
1. I downloaded DaggerfallSetup.exe. Start character, save game. (Like I said, save twice or back up)
2. I then downloaded Daghex2f.zip, extract DAGHEX.EXE into your Daggerfall game directory.
3. Right-click the file DosBox.conf (located in Daggerfall folder), open with Notepad. Scroll down to the bottom.
4. Replace the line fall.exe z.cfg with daghex.exe. (This will tell Dosbox to open the savegame editor instead of daggerfall)
5. Save and close DosBox.conf.
6. Open DosBox.exe. It should open the Daghex editor. Make your changes, save and quit.
7. Go BACK into DosBox.conf, reverse the line (daghex.exe => fall.exe z.cfg), save and close.
8. Play Daggerfall with your newly-edited character save.
I hope someone can read this and present it on the page properly. 162.192.182.176 02:24, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
Incorrect Version Numbering[edit]
All over this wiki, I keep seeing the incorrect version numbering of the latest patch to be v2.13.
It should instead correctly state the version to be 1.07.213. The same goes for the other patches shown in the article.
The list of the current patches provided in the article and their respective version numbering should be as follows:
- After installing the game with the intial installer provided by Bethesda, it will display the version of daggerfall to be
TES: Daggerfall v1.0.165
- DAG177.EXE: This patches Daggerfall to version 1.0.177 and not 1.77 as stated in this article.
- DAG179.EXE: patches Daggerfall to version 1.0.179, and not 1.79 as stated in this article.
- DAG191.EXE: patches Daggerfall to version 1.04.191, and not 1.91 as stated in this article.
- DAG195.EXE: patches Daggerfall to version 1.05.195, and not 1.95 as stated in this article.
- DAG200.EXE: patches Daggerfall to version 1.06.200, and not 2.00 as stated in this article.
- DAG212.EXE: patches Daggerfall to version 1.07.212, and not 2.12 as stated in this article.
- Finally, DAG213.EXE: patches Daggerfall to version 1.07.213, and not 2.13 as stated in this article.
If you don't believe me, you can try to see for yourself. Just install Daggerfall, run the program, look at the initial version number, then execute each patch file, and see the version number the patch will update the program to. athf (talk) 02:22, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
- Not sure about official wiki policy on this one, but it is common practice among software developers to drop the initial 1 or 0 in a version number, as they can become redundant if the program never gets to version 2.*; e.g., version 1.1.0 would be simply called 1.0. It's just better to read if you remove the repeating 1.0 that you'd get everywhere. 76.23.151.174 06:40, 2 July 2016 (UTC)

- nevmind. I seem to have solved it by converting my game into a true full install with the no-cd hack. my guess it that the script tried to modify a file that wasn't on the virtual C drive, then failed when it couldn't find it. beware of this before you try it. --70.170.67.244 21:10, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
DF Setup Descriptor needs updating[edit]
Not sure how to update it myself as Daneel53 updating and maintaining DF Setup is no longer Ancestral Ghost at this time. And Daneel53 doesnt have a user nor user talk page on the UESP site
Chizmad (talk) 14:42, 7 June 2017 (UTC)
- Hello !
- I just created an account here yesterday, so now we can talk.
- I confirm that I shall replace Ancestral Ghost for the management of the PFD, the PFD Setup, DaggerfallSetup and ArenaSetup. I just downloaded the sources of the three installers today and had a first look.
- What in your mind needs to be updated ? What I saw is that the latest DaggerfallPFD.exe setup displays that it contains the 0.30 version, which is erroneous because it actually contains version 0.31 of the PFD. I will soon release a version 0.32 of the PFD, everything shall be in accordance !
-
- no, my issue is that it is saying he is working on it still and that ur profile page isn't set up, which is why its red still :p
-
- BTW look at the area at the top it talks about ho to properlyign ur post and use colins to indent. in which I indented for you.
-
- also the newest version of DF setup should be version 2.12.0 as said here http://wiwiki.wiwiland.net/index.php?title=Daggerfall_:_DaggerfallSetup_EN

(←) Ah, now I understand what was bothering you! In my mind the words "originally compiled by Ancestral Ghost" were not an issue because they are true. But anyway, thanks RobinHood for having added the fix. For information, I'm currently studying the setups of Daggerfall and PFD written by Ancestral Ghost. A setup for a new PFD (0.32) shall be launched next week, followed some days after by an updated DaggerfallSetup.--Daneel53 (talk) 19:40, 11 June 2017 (UTC)
- Will there be anything new in the next version? Or will it just be the last one with my tweak and the newest version of hackfall like the last version (2.12.00) Chizmad (talk) 21:02, 11 June 2017 (UTC)
- PFD 0.32 shall have a fully retranslated Fall.exe file due to my last DFEXEEDT tool that permits to have translated texts longer than the English ones, something impossible up to now. Besides this a set of QRC files has been reread and the translation was updated, the file TEXT.RSC is modified to take care of some remarks made in 2016. All this shall be explained will the release 0.32. If relevant I'll have to take care of DFQFIX 3.3 because PFD 0.31 seems to translate only DFQFIX 3.2.
- The DaggerfallSetup 2.13.0 shall include the PFD 0.32. All other content shall be the same as in 2.12 because, as far as I see on this page, none of its component was updated since 09 october 2016. If you feel that another patch or fix should be added, please telle me.--Daneel53 (talk) 00:12, 12 June 2017 (UTC)

I remember Donald Tipton had several other files back when his site was up. One was a patch that made status effects on weapons found in dungeons stay on the weapon permanently instead of disappearing upon leaving. Anyone know where to find these? --99.162.189.196 22:23, 28 August 2018 (UTC)
- Not positive but I think this is his site. All links are broken unfortunately. --99.162.189.196 23:20, 28 August 2018 (UTC)

So if you download DFHack V3 and open the help tab in the program, it asks you to register the program with a key you can purchase for 25 dollars if you are satisfied with it. I'm not sure we want to host the program still if that's the case. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 17:00, 17 June 2019 (UTC)
- If the payment is optional, I'd suggest just flagging it on the page as shareware. If it's required, I'd say get rid of it, cuz it seems unlikely that anyone would pay $25 for it at this point. – Robin Hood (talk) 20:56, 18 June 2019 (UTC)
