The Cathedral of Saint Martin in Bruma

The Cathedral of St. Martin is a large chapel in Bruma. Formerly a place of Talos worship, it is now dedicated to Saint Martin.

The Cathedral dominates the southern district of Bruma, towering over the nearby middle- and lower-class dwellings, as well as the market square just to the west. Neremus Agrecian and his acolyte Harthir run the Cathedral, despite attempts at intimidation by Armion, and welcome a regular stream of worshipers from across the city.

Walkthrough[edit]

The cathedral's interior

Cathedral of St. Martin[edit]

The main chamber inside is dimly lit, with rows of wooden pews in the nave leading up to a stone altar and a wooden lectern with copies of Prayers to the Eight Divines, The Song of Pelinal, v1 and Scripture of Saint Martin, volumes 1 and 2. Around the walls of the cathedral are shrines to each of the Eight Divines as well as offerings of domica redwort. A wide stone staircase leads down to the Chapel Hall and Undercroft, and nearby is a shelf with various religious books and an assortment of potions (one potion of plentiful healing, two potions of healing, two potions of minor healing, one potion of minor magicka, one potion of stamina).

Chapel Hall[edit]

The Chapel Hall comprises four separate areas. The first is a sparse dining room, with meager food and drink, but containing a shrine of Arkay and a large bookshelf holding a novice-locked strongbox, a scroll of harmony, a scroll of heal other, two silver candlesticks and copies of numerous books, including Lorkhan the Charlatan, Scripture of Saint Martin, volumes 1 and 2, Souls, Black and White and Spirit of the Daedra. To the south is a room with two beds, two chests, a copy of Knightfall and an amulet of Kynareth. Down the stairs to the east and west lie two rooms. The first is Neremus's room, and contains a double bed and a wardrobe, while the second is the kitchen, where a cooking pot is surrounded by food and salt piles.

Chapel Undercroft[edit]

The undercroft's main chamber has walls lined with coffins, faced by benches and chairs for the faithful. On two tables you will find a shrine of Arkay and offerings of flowers, gold and silverware. Two matching family crypts are found to each side of the main chamber, both containing a coffin and tables with offerings including flowers, gold, silverware, a lute, two copies each of Scripture of Saint Martin's two volumes and a scroll of calm.

Notes[edit]

  • The cathedral also appeared in Oblivion, when it was referred to as the Great Chapel of Talos.
  • The Cathedral was meant to host the wedding of Benuni Alfena and Galarynn during All the Wrong Places. Unfortunately, the quest was cut, and you will never be able to witness the scene.
  • When first entering the city, you will come across Neremus and Armion on the steps of the Cathedral, locked in argument about whether the worship of Saint Martin contravenes the White-Gold Concordat.
  • The beggar Reln-Tei sleeps on a thin bedroll in one of the exterior alcoves on the southeastern wall.
