Skyrim talk:Fort Kastav
Sequence[edit]
Does this remain a military fort held by the winning side after the civil war? If so, maybe "normally occupied" should be changed to "initially occupied." --JRTalk E-mail 08:37, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
- As far as I can tell, every "military fort" is initially occupied by bandits, vampires, mages, Forsworn or some such. This only changes if the fort has to be captured during the Civil War quest line: it will be occupied by the enemy when you've been tasked with capturing it. Once you do, it becomes occupied by your side and it stays that way. See The Liberation of Skyrim and Season Unending for which Forts have to be captured and which don't--it depends on the player's own situation.
- When I first discovered Fort Kastav it was full of mages and necromancers. The Stormcloaks didn't need me to capture it, so it's still full of mages and necromancers. YMMV, as they say. Wyldebill 10:44, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
Occupied[edit]
I have not started the quest line of joining the legion or the Stormcloaks. Have never even discussed it with anyone. I just wandered past Ft. Kastav and it is occupied by Stormcloaks and there is a large contingent of Stormcloaks amassed as if ready to attack the fort. Anyone else encounter this? Sniffles (talk) 08:29, 9 April 2013 (GMT)
- PS3. I also have neither joined the Legion or Stormcloaks. Immediately after clearing the Fort of mages, I fast-traveled to Windhelm to ditch my load, then came right back to Fort Kastav to continue my walking journey. The Fort was now occupied by Stormcloaks, and as you say, there was a fair group of them outside the Fort too. The loot inside the Captain's quarters was much better this time! Also there were beds for the troops etc., and now going into the Jail was trespassing, and the altar up top was gone.104.247.247.102 22:26, 4 March 2018 (UTC)
- PC. I have experienced a similar thing with Fort Amol down in Eastmarch, and I am suspecting it might be that after being cleared, it might default to the soldiers of whoever owns the fort in a Civil War context. Not absolutely certain, but a possibility. — Unsigned comment by 84.238.38.253 (talk) at 18:09 on 17 November 2018
- If you clear one of these military forts they will be occupied by the faction which controls that hold. The civil war does not have anything to do with this mechanic, other than to determine which faction occupies it once you clear it. A secondary situation is that at a certain point in the civil war questline each fort will be occupied regardless of whether or not you have cleared it before. The only thing in doubt with the original post by Sniffles is whether he had cleared the fort before noticing the change of occupier. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 21:31, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

Why does this fort seem harder than others?[edit]
I noticed this fort is occupied by high-level mages and is hard to defeat. I always sneak past it at low levels. Is this my imagination? Maybe a word or two about this is an order?--Grimbold (talk) 17:04, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
