Possible bug?[edit]

One of the potential clients for this quest is Sabine Nytte, who is apparently always inside the Red Wave. Initiating a conversation with her only results in a standard trespassing warning, making it impossible to complete the pickup. I circumvented this with the console command A17A6.MoveTo Player while standing outside on the deck. Initiating a conversation in this environment worked, allowing me to pick up the item and complete the quest.

Was this a glitch local to my current game, or did this happen to anyone else? — Unsigned comment by 92.201.240.135 (talk) at 17:34 on 7 December 2011 (UTC)

This happened to me too, I found this page by Google. Thanks for a fix! She immediately walked right back in there again, too. --50.46.12.26 13:11, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
I also have this bug on the PS3. No solution. This was the second pick up mission. I'm glad to read that it is just a random generated mission! — Unsigned comment by 182.20.98.224 (talk) at 17:28 on 18 December 2011
This happened to me on the 360, but I was able to complete it by forcing her out of the cabin onto the deck. In order to do this, I entered the cabin and talked to her so that she started complaining about me trespassing. However, before she could complete her sentence I exited the cabin through the door and went back out onto the deck. In my game at least, if you change areas when an NPC is in the middle of talking to you, they will follow you and change areas as well. Leaving the cabin when Nytte is in mid-sentence should force her out onto the deck, which in my case allowed me to complete the quest. — Unsigned comment by 76.113.55.19 (talk) at 04:58 on 9 January 2012
Another bug
I was asked to pick up an item from Jenassa. She was already dead lol. I resurrected and enabled her. That seems to have allowed me to finish the quest okay. --184.59.139.152 01:18, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

() One solution I found on PS3 was to pickpocket until I was caught, causing Sabine to attack me. I ran out side and went into stealth until hidden, then talked to Sabine before she went back inside. — Unsigned comment by 68.32.7.149 (talk) at 12:34 on 25 February 2012

(To 76.113) Thank you, this worked for me on PS3 — Unsigned comment by 46.246.92.176 (talk) at 19:30 on 11 October 2012‎

Radiant Customers[edit]

Suvaris Atheron in Windhelm is a radiant customer of this quest. --Tiger8u2 00:52, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

Arivanya in Windhelm possible radiant customer? Can anybody confirm? (I think "The Butcher" might have gotten her, bugging this quest.) Motion to create "Possible Targets" section on Quest page, move Aicantar to it with a quick note (and the two full bullets to his page), and add Sabine Nytte, Suvaris Atherton, and possibly Arivanya • S1D3WYZ 12:13, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
Brand-Shei in Riften is a possible radiant customer for this quest. Xyzzy 16:23, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
I have now tested this several times, and the first customer is always Endon. (I've never tried for a second customer.) There was a recent edit saying this is "radiant", while I assumed it was scripted. Is there a list of radiant targets yet?
--DayDreamer 19:34, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
Not true for me. My first customer on my first playthrough was Tythis Ulen and on my second playthrough it was Corpulus Vinius. Wolok gro-Barok 17:11, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

() This article was updated after DayDreamer's post, explaining that there are 57 possible NPCs. I'm not exactly sure why DD would have the same person every time, but my guess is that he was repeatedly loading a save for which the NPC was already determined for his quest. ABCface 18:49, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

Nope, that was 3 different starts, with 2 different races, but going there immediately after Whiterun (roughly Level 6-8). Each start was with a new official update (1.3, 1.4, 1.5). However, my 4th start (1.6) had Imedhnain at Level 12, and this 5th time (1.7) at Level 17 he won't give me the quest, he wants to do soul gems instead. I'm going to look at the code.

I've looked at the code, and it's completely random. No level checks at all. But just as the random number generator isn't very good for Faralda (I always get Fear or Flame Atronach), it must not be very good here either. Anyway, I've found that quitting and reloading gives more variety than merely reloading.

Stopping getting his quests[edit]

Recently I've started a new character and decided that these pick-ups would be both Role Playing(encouraging traveling) and money making activity (since even at level 1 the reward is 250 Gold). Formally speaking, he first asks for another quest to restock soul gems but it seemed that you can just cancel it and after he is giving a Pick-Up one. However after 5 or 6 pick-ups he stopped giving any quests: both Restocking and Pick Up. I wonder about reasons. Maybe he is really out of gems plus after several refuses to give him gems (actually I was unlucky that he wanted 10 Grand Gems when I am level 6 myself) this option terminates. So be careful if you are planning to use this quest as a source of relatively easy money. Bring him gems first.--89.23.163.29 00:47, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

Update: actually in my case he awaited when I bring him 10 Grand Gems (and no option to cancel) which I was able to do around level 50. After, he continues to give me his quests.--31.128.131.146 06:06, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

inaccurate[edit]

The description is inaccurate:

Prior to commencing this quest, you must complete the Restocking Soul Gems quest given by Sergius Turrianus.

I met him before finishing First Lessons with Tolfdir (immediately after talking with Mirabelle Ervine), and he gave me this quest without asking for Soul Gems.
--DayDreamer 07:04, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

True, I've got this quest as well, but have not yet been asked to fetch him some soul gems. I'll update the article. Wolok gro-Barok 16:15, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

no prerequisite[edit]

Prerequisite Quest: First Lessons

I've gotten this quest before finishing First Lessons, talking to him immediately after Mirabella Ervine.
