Skyrim talk:Dragon Lairs
Naming[edit]
Shouldn't this page be named Word Walls since all each of them are are just a word wall and a dragon, no lair.--Ohnoitsmangofett 04:44, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
- From the looks of the page, not all dragon lairs contain word walls. Also, someone might specifically be hunting dragons, so I think it makes sense to list dragon lairs separately from word walls. – Robin Hood↝talk 02:42, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- Actually all of them do contain a word wall. 78.2.62.202 20:49, 8 January 2012 (UTC)
- I wasn't sure, since I haven't played enough to know yet...too busy with the wiki itself. :) If that's the case, some of the descriptions might need updating. I can still see a desire to leave the two concepts as separate pages, but I think it might be best to wait a bit and see what content develops on each page. Currently, the Word Wall page is pretty short, so it may be in the end that the two pages can be merged, with one of them just becoming a redirect to the other. – Robin Hood↝talk 23:54, 8 January 2012 (UTC)
- I don't think they should be merged, simply because not all word walls have dragons. Many word walls are indoors. I came across this page because I was looking for exactly this: outdoor dragon/word-wall areas. Trying to do that on the shouts page requires looking up each shout to see if it's hidden in some ruin, possibly a 3+ hour task for us meticulous sneaky types. I just wanted outdoor wall locations: find it, read it, kill a dragon, done. However, I REALLY think this "summary" page should list the important facts: general location, TYPE OF SHOUT, and enemies present (basically, will there be a dragon or a dragon and a priest?). We want to keep it simplified, with the details on the page for each location, but I think the shout is more important than any other information. --Amsuko 04:50, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Bug[edit]
Due to bug, dragons don't respawn at some of the lairs (Dragontooth Crater and Bonestrewn Crest in my case). Uninstalling and reinstalling the game or waiting 30 game days doesn't fix the lair. This is troublesome for certain quests such as Dragon seekers, Esbern's dragon hunt or Dragon bounty where quest pointer will point to the ground (possibly the place where the dragon was previously killed?) and there will be no dragon to kill. (ZekunD 01:49, 11 January 2012 (UTC))
- Have you tried detect life to see if they're underground? Could be they spawn below the map like a few other characters. If that's the case, it might be feasible to hit them with a rune spell or something to get them moving.. WhackyGordon 19:03, 29 January 2012 (UTC)
- Yes. I did aura whisper, hitting the ground with all kinds of destruction spells including rune, shouting the ground, shouting up at quest marker. Nothing worked. This was patch 1.3 PS3. I haven't checked if it is fixed after patch 1.4. (ZekunD 12:28, 21 February 2012 (UTC))
- On my PC version the dragon at Bonestrewn Crest respawned even before I got patch 1.4. It might be a PS3 specific bug? --MortenOSlash 21:23, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
- Even after patch 1.5, I still find that dragons are not respawning at Lost Tongue Overlook, Dragontooth Crater, Ancients Ascent, and Eldersblood Peak. (PS3) Charlie1121 17:14, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
- you guys are lucky in my case they stoped spawning at all lair i downloaded dawnguard dlc i tought they had it fixed because dragons started spawning again at the lairs but i killed the dragons twice in each lair and now nothing they stopped spawning again at all lairs im on xbox 360 — Unsigned comment by 96.21.222.124 (talk) at 19:09 on 28 June 2012

(←) Are you sure you're staying away from these locations for the appropriate amount of time for them to respawn? Waiting away from the locations may be necessary, and coming back too early to check the area will restart the clock each time. ABCface◥ 20:46, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, I waited for 30 days (30th of Midyear to 30th of Sun's Height) at Proudspire Manor. Charlie1121 01:54, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Return to Esbern[edit]
On my PC version, at the moment I finally had cleared all the Dragon Lairs once (very late in the game, long after having finished the Main Quest and all Faction Quests), I suddenly got "Return to Esbern" as a new Miscellaneous Quest. Esbern does not want to speak much to me though, as I have still not killed Paarthurnax, so the Quest is left active. Is it a bug, or can it be finished without use of console commands? (I did not find anything under Miscellaneous Quests or its Talk Page, so I put it here, as it came after clearing the Dragon Lairs.) --MortenOSlash 21:46, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
- I believe that may be this quest, and the bug is documented here, though it needs to be moved. I don't know what to do to complete it. Vely►Talk►Email 21:51, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
- The bug is listed on a few of the dragon lair pages, but not all of them. It's been changed since it was added to Esbern's page, and some of the others aren't actually the same, but they're too similar to be different bugs, IMO. If it actually does apply to all dragon lairs, it should definitely be added to this page, the Dragon Hunting page, and possibly each dragon lair page as well. Whether or not it should remain on Esbern's page is iffy, but I'd prefer it remain there since users discussing the information on various talk pages have been unsure of which quest it's referring to, so that's a likely place for future users to seek out that information. I'm a little unsure of how to handle the situation though, since there are various reports across different articles and talk pages, and the similar bugs are not quite the same. =\ ABCface◥ 22:31, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
- This bug is the same and probably linked to the dragon potion that Esbern gives you not giving you the perk. On different playthroughs it has happened at Shearpoint and Dragontooth Crater, adding it to this page is ok but not each lair, and it is Esbern's quest so should be there as well. - Actually, looking at the list of dragon lairs, there's only ten of them total anyway, so I don't think it would be that bad to mention it on each dragon lair page, if it does effect each one. I'm not talking about every word wall, just each dragon lair. We could put the details on one page (probably this one), and have a note in the Bugs section for the others directing them here so that it doesn't get edited inconsistently across various pages. Something like: "A bug involving Esbern and the Dragon Hunting quest affects all dragon lairs; for more information see the <fakelink:Dragon Lairs#Bugs> page" or something. That could probably be worded better by someone else, though. ABCface◥ 23:08, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

I just cleared my last dragon lair, which was Shearpoint, and did not get the Return to Esbern bug after getting it on every other character I've played. I cleared some them well after I finished the main quest. Wonder what happened. On Xbox with latest patch. El Duderino (talk) 03:06, 12 November 2012 (GMT)
Bugs Cleanup[edit]
- If you fight and kill a dragon near a dragon lair that is already marked on your map, you can fast travel to it.
- Been 8 months unconfirmed, and frankly its hard to believe. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 01:22, 12 October 2013 (GMT)
Dragon Soul Respawn[edit]
I just killed a dragon at a lair that I'd previously cleared and my character didn't absorb it's soul. I went looking to see if this was a bug and I came across this article which does indeed list it as a possible bug. I then went and the checked the official support section and found http://support.bethsoft.com/?i=167
Is that implying it's not a bug...or it is a bug and there's no fix? I'm running PS3 2.09 with all DLC (not legendary edition) so unfortunately the unofficial patches are not an option. I'm around level 28. Does this mean my save file is messed up now? Is this going to cause problems with not having enough souls to unlock all shouts etc?
- Personally, I'm certain I have absorbed souls at respawned Lairs, however sometimes (1 in 20?) random dragon encounters don't give me any souls which makes me think its a bug. I play on Xbox with all DLC if that's any help. Don't worry, there are enough dragons out there to get all the shouts. --Jimeee (talk) 12:29, 21 February 2014 (GMT)
