Bug[edit]

how long does it take for belethor to re spawn his gold? i think mine got a bug.. no matter how long i wait his gold is still 0.--120.166.0.197 19:08, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

a more thorough explanation of this bug: do a transaction with belethor (buy/sale) then right after that, load a previous save/autosave. what should happen: belethor's gold back to the amount before you do that transaction. what happen: his gold is still at the amount after you did that transaction.--120.166.27.23 09:20, 27 December 2011 (UTC)

() For some reason, he won't buy or sell anything. I have the dialogue option to trade, but when the trade UI comes up, nothing's for sale. What's up? — Unsigned comment by 187.67.238.28 (talk) at 04:21 on 7 January 2013

Belethor gone[edit]

So suddenly Belethor wouldn't open his shop anymore. So I did. Surprise, he wasn't in there. I did prid 1A672 and moveto player and found an empty corpse in front of me. After a quick resurrect he felt better, but doesn't sell me anything, nor offering the corresponding dialog option, even after days outside the city. Everything else works fine. Has anyone experienced similar things? --79.194.9.176 05:52, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Check the Hall of the Dead for a coffin or urn. You may need to "disable and reactivate him" for his packages to reactivate (not familiar with proper terms). The Silencer has spokenTalk 06:04, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
Try this, it worked for me.

prid 0001A672

Possible remedy for Belethor closing shop after player leaving (through front door)[edit]

I have tried using the rear door to Belethor's shop (in the room with the Cooking Pot, to the left of Belethor), instead of the front door (to the small square where the city guard normally stands), and found that I can go several round trips to my house and back making me able to trade in items for the gold I spent buying things. If I use the front door, he regularly closes up shop for me too, and reopens next day with only 1000 gold or so.

If anyone could confirm this also works in their game, I think it would make a fine contribution to the wiki. :-) GJ 14:57, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

No inventory bug[edit]

If it helps figure out the cause of the no buy/sell bug: I got this bug on my newest character when I went into the shop (which was unlocked) around 7:10 am, he was still asleep, I then went up to the room and talked to him. I used the "What do you have to sell?" option and discovered it was blank. After reading it was a permanent thing, I murdered him in the hopes that someone replaces him and they work properly. If it succeeds I'll post so maybe it can be mentioned as a "solution" of sorts. Realchaos (talk) 08:00, 6 January 2013 (GMT)

Belethor killed by vamp; no vendor replacement[edit]

(PS3 user) During my newest character's beginning days in Whiterun, literally in the first two hours on this save, I spawned a master vampire and thrall attack, but instead of attacking me, the vamp ran straight for Belethor, I tried to fight the vampire, but he was ridiculously overpowered (he had cast ice spike, so he was "at least" a level 31, according to this chart, which should be impossible, considering level 31 master vamps don't start spawning until I reach level 38, but I digress) even at Novice difficulty. I ended up moving away and letting the guards handle him and his thrall, but ever since then, if I enter Belethor's General Goods, I'm always trespassing, even during standard business hours when the doors are unlocked. There is not an NPC to replace him in his vendor capacity. His shop assistant, whom I had assumed would take over the shop, has not, although he still works there, he will only ever give me the trespassing warnings and eventually call the guards. It has been about 104 hours of play since then and this still occurs. Any tips? 75.173.64.14 08:26, 24 January 2014 (GMT)

Ysolda is marked incorrectly as Belethor's successor, but she doesn't always take over due to some of the many scripts involving her. Even if she did move to the shop she can't trade with you. In short no-one will take over from Belethor and sell items. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 19:02, 24 January 2014 (GMT)
(Xbox360 user) When Belethor is killed by Vamp and ressurected into Thrall, he will become ash and never be able to be ressurected leaving no one to take over his General Goods store. Even after waiting 30 days for Whiterun to respawn, no change. Best bet is to never enter Whiterun after dark with Dawnguard add-on. — Unsigned comment by FalloutIII 2013 (talkcontribs) at 17:01 on 27 January 2024 (UTC)

Killing Belethor gives a "Talk to the Companion leaders for work" quest.[edit]

Basically what the title says. Every time I kill Belethor (I save my game first before I do it, and then reload it) a miscellaneous quest always pops out saying "talk to the Companions leader for work". So I was wondering, does Belethor have some sort of connection to Companions, or it's just some sort of a bug? Also, whenever I try to talk to them there's no dialogue that says something about 'work'. Thanks in advance. (Yeah, I'm also the one who posted it in the other wiki.) — Unsigned comment by Incohatus (talkcontribs) at 01:55 on 25 February 2014‎

He has no direct link to any Companions quests, but there are a few Companions quests that target semi-random people, and Belethor could be coming up as one of those. Assuming there's no obvious indicator, like "Failed Objective...", the only way that I can think of to be absolutely sure what's causing it is to go down your miscellaneous quests and note any that are likely suspects, then see if they're still there after you kill Belethor. If one of them has disappeared, you can search the wiki for the text of the objective, and see which quest it is that's causing it. My first guess would be Hired Muscle, since that can target almost anyone in Skyrim. Robin Hood  (talk) 03:07, 25 February 2014 (GMT)
Hmmm... It's weird cause as far as I can recall it correctly, I already finished the Hired Muscle quest on the save where I had this bug happen and my target is Elrindir and my current objective for the Companion's quest is the "talk to Vilkas for work"(and it also doesn't have any mods whatsoever since it was also my first playthrough). And there's also no failed objective that pops up when I kill him. Only that "talk to...". Thanks for the response. Incohatus (talk) 03:39, 25 February 2014 (GMT)
