J'datharr

J'datharr is a Khajiit assassin working for the Thalmor who can be found just outside of Windhelm at the Khajiit caravan campsite during the quest Find the Thalmor Assassin.

As an undercover merchant, J'datharr wears a regular set of clothes and boots, while he carries quite an arsenal in his inventory. For combat, he uses an elven dagger and an elven bow with eight elven arrows. He also carries a potent poison, a weak lingering poison, and a potion of plentiful healing. Lastly, he carries an anonymous note, detailing his next hit, the Wood Elf servant Malborn.

Quest-Related Events[edit]

Once the quest is initiated, a Khajiit caravan will settle down behind Windhelm Stables and J'datharr will be present as well, standing a bit away from the other Khajiit, and will only utter:

"Move on, friend. I have nothing to sell today."

However, asking Ri'saad about a possible Thalmor spy will provide some information about the suspicious guest. It is then possible to speak with J'datharr:

Never mind.
"Indeed. That would be best."
Malborn has a message for you.
"Malborn? Ah... very good. I think we understand each other."

Choosing the latter option will draw his attention after which the conversation ends with him drawing his weapon. As he attacks you, he can be heard shouting:

"The Thalmor never forget."
"You'll have a traitor's death."
"Why struggle? The Thalmor will only send more like me."

Bugs[edit]

  • J'datharr carries a nameless object. When dropped, it turns into a large red square with a pink exclamation mark inside it and cannot be picked back up, this is due to the item lacking a world model. This item is actually a world item internally known as HelgenCandleLight01NS, a light source to be specific. It is unknown why he possesses this, but it could be due to him needing a light source for his torch holding animation.
    • Skyrim Special Edition also seems to partially fix this. Upon killing him the item will still be missing the name and icon while in his inventory (it is even invisible in his hand, although the light source is still present), but it will become a mostly normal torch when it enters your inventory. Its weight is 0, unlike a normal torch's 0.5 weight, and won't stack with other torches. It will otherwise function like a normal torch, with the sole exception that this torch casts shadows.
