Red, Black, or Maroon?[edit]

A while back on the discord server there was a discussion over whether Yolnahkriin was red or black, since a user red that when the wiki previously listed him as black. Though a lot of screenshots showing the dragon at night showed him as black, pictures taken in the day didn't. People came to agree that it was a very dark shade of red, so I decided to transfer this to the wiki as maroon.

Now somebody is advocating to list them as simply "red" which sets us back to how the page used to be. They're not wrong, he's certainly red, but to describe him as just that would be a little misleading and strips readers of more detailed information. Red dragons have long been notable, going back to the PGE 1st Edition from 1998 where they say "The Red Dragons that have come to represent the Empire and the Imperial City were originally Akaviri war mounts." and Mysterious Akavir stating that particularly the red dragons were all enslaved by the Akaviri, which made the distinction notable back before there was much lore on dragons.

Furthermore, the standard dragons fought at dragonscours are a much lighter shade of red than Yolnahkriin. To describe these two no differently from each other just feels odd to me. Personally this seems to have become a much bigger issue than it should be and you could call him burgundy, sangria, or simply "dark red" for all I care, I just think Yolnahkriin should be noted for having a darker shade of red and that the wiki should come to a consensus on what color he is. Iirc I created the assumption that Yolnahkriin was a black dragon on the Sunspire page, since Lokkestiiz was white. I hadn't actually seen any pictures of Yolnahkriin at the time, I missed the Sunspire preview stream. Yolnahkriin being listed as black was a product of foolish conjecture, not someone seeing him and thinking "hmm scales looks black". Conjecture doesn't belong on the wiki.
With that said: I believe the distinction doesn't really matter all that much. Call him ruddy red if you want to. He's the color of burnt corpses and desolation. His theme is fire, like the magic he uses and the hot oil surrounding his ruined arena. He may not be bright red like the weaker dragons, but he's red. If you feel like we shouldn't use the same word to describe Yolnahkriin that we use to describe dragonscour dragons, call him ruddy or maroon.
No one has ever looked at him and perceived him as having black scales, we can remove black from the equation entirely. MolagBallet (talk) 18:56, July 5 2019 (UTC)
