Ripple Effect[edit]

Prior to starting Ripple Effect, he'll warn you that the current threat is greater than his friend says it is:

"Bhagrun here claimed that the threat that Faolchu poses has been greatly exaggerated.
Poor fool wouldn't know a moth from a mammoth."

Collect the Ancient Blades from each of them and return to Sarvith Lunlin at the Mages Guild camp, where he is arguing with another mage. Bhagrun Gro-Dunk doesn't believe that the stories of Faolchu are entirely truthful.

Sarvith Yunlin: "It's true! Faolchu was tall as a tree, with claws like greatswords."
Bhagrun gro-Dunk: "Yes, yes. And he breathed fire and ate warriors, armor and all. I've heard it all before."

Speak to him and he'll repeat his earlier line about Bhagrun, but you can tell him you've gathered the swords:

Grahla asked me to bring you these things.
"Ah, the focus objects! These will do very nicely. Let me just, uhh … hmm. I don't think that was supposed to come off.
Well, these swords are pretty beat up. I'm sure we'll still have plenty of material for the ritual, though."
What do you hope to accomplish?
"If all goes well, we'll be able to peer into the past. Hopefully see what happened to Faolchu. Find out how the Dirennis were able to defeat the Alessians so long ago.
And if something goes wrong, well, then we shall see what we shall see."
I'd like to observe the ritual.
"Of course. We'll be using the amalgamated essence of the past, focused with these ancient weapons, to open a sort of window into history.
Follow me."

Follow him and Bhagrun out into the camp:

Sarvith Yunlin: "Now we may finally learn how Faolchu was defeated."
Bhagrun gro-Dunk: "And maybe we'll find out how tall the horker really was."

The two mages cast a spell on one of the swords when a spirit appears:

Alana Relin: "Listen to me! You must listen!"

Speak to him and he'll be more elated than it seems he should:

"Julianos's little teapot! We did it!
I think."
Was that supposed to happen?
"The spell worked better than I anticipated. We didn't just create a window into the past—we opened a door. The very air ripples with temporal disturbance.
Somewhere nearby, a door into history stands open. All we need to do is step through it."
Who was that woman who appeared?
"A fragment from the past, I think. Something that was pulled forward with the spell.
Let's hope that was all we pulled forward."
So how does this help us learn about Faolchu?
"Someone brave and rash enough has to actually step through the door we opened.
I'm too valuable to get lost in the past. And Bhagrun would probably change history with all his usual bumbling about. Ask Grahla what she thinks we should do."

Speaking to him again:

"It seems we've created a ripple in time itself.
Someone needs to go and find out what our spell actually accomplished."

After you talk to Grahla and before you head out to examine the ripples:

"Grahla actually agreed? You can look for the door into the past? Well, that's just great. I knew she'd appreciate what I've done."

The Nameless Soldier[edit]

Depending on your choices during the quest, exit the crypt and you'll find Sarvith Yunlin and Bhagrun waiting to speak to you:

"Ha! It worked! I knew it! Into the past and back again!
Er … are you all right?"
I think so.
"The ancient armor, it drew you into the past.
But we knew it was temporary. You belong here, my friend."
I killed Faolchu. Fire weakens him and makes him vulnerable.
"Fire! Of course! That makes all kinds of sense.
Quickly, report your findings to Grahla. She needs to hear what you learned."

Speak to him before speaking to Grahla and he'll say:

"Of course. Of course. Faolchu's weakness is fire. That makes so much sense when you stop to think about it.
We need to tell Camlorn about this immediately."

After the completion of The Nameless Soldier, he'll say:

"Can you believe it? My spell actually worked and you were able to uncover Faolchu's secret!
Say, if you ever want to help me with another … experiment … I wouldn't turn you down."
