Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
Just outside the entrance to the Lost Prospect mine, you may come across a wounded man lying on the ground. Talking to him, he will ask for your help.
- "You're not one of them. Need your help. Not for me—I'm doomed—but the others…."
- How can I help?
- "The Cult. They killed us all. Our loved ones in Riften must be told. Help us, please!"
- But how do I identify you?
- "Search the corpses. Personal items. Come back to me."
- I'm on it. Don't die on me.
On the riverbank just south of Svein, the body of an Argonian peasant lies in the water. The Signet Ring can be taken off her corpse. To the west, on the other side of the Worm Cult camp and near a trio of zombies lies a Nord peasant's corpse. The Engraved Locket can be taken from his corpse. Roughly south of him by the cliffs lies a Dunmer peasant, and the Unsent Letter can be taken from her corpse.
Returning to Svein, you will discover he died while you collected the personal items from the peasants. You will then have to collect his personal item, a Handkerchief, and take all four items to Riften.
North of the Wayshrine is Windtorn House, where you can deliver the Engraved Locket to Amifar Windtorn.
- "I see it in your face—you have word of my husband. Please tell me!"
- Amifar? I found this locket in Lost Prospect. I believe it's yours.
- "He's dead then. I think I knew it, deep down. Vikonn kept my locket on him always. After Sinmur attacked, Vikonn was gone. At least now I know. Thank you."
The Mages Guild is directly south of the Wayshrine and Windtorn House. Inside, a man named Priest Zakhal is praying. Talking to him, he will accept the Unsent Letter.
- "Mara watches over us all. Everything happens according to her plan, though we often don't see it."
- I found this letter on a body in Lost Prospect. Is it yours?
- "Yes, it's mine, I'm afraid. That's how Flavia always referred to me. She was a dear cousin as well as my acolyte. Flavia vanished when Sinmur attacked Riften. May Mara grant her soul peace."
Heading west from the Mages Guild to deliver the Signet Ring, you will find a Nord man named Hadriss in the Artisan's Hall. You can return the ring to him.
- "Yes, what is it? I'm a busy man."
- I found this ring on a body in Lost Prospect. Is it yours?
- "Yes. My wife, Pria, had it on her when Sinmur attacked Riften. I'd hoped she was still alive and would come back to me someday. But she never will now."
In the south of Riften is the Fighters Guild. Just inside the doors is Thane Viri, and you may speak to her to deliver Svein's handkerchief.
- "What do you want? If it's a favor, I have no time to spare right now."
- I spoke with Svein before he died. He would have wanted you to have this.
- "Poor Svein. I wondered what became of him after Sinmur attacked Riften.
Thank you. It's a relief to know at last."
She will then give a reward, completing the quest.
