Curing Vampirism

It would also appear that completing the Cure Vampirism quest may result in the the Count of Skingrad offering to make you a vampire. Anyone able to confirm this (I was already a vampire, and he said something along the lines of "What I would offer you you already have", or some such)? -- EndarethTalk 02:33, 21 April 2006 (EDT)

Vampires visiting you in sleep?

Quote:

You may simply receive a visit from a vampire while you sleep; you lose blood and gain an unpleasant infection.

Are you sure of this? It does not seem very likely actually, and personally, I've never contracted the disease while sleeping (and I've slept a lot). --MiSP 05:46, 22 April 2006 (EDT)

I'm also a tad sceptical of this option... -- EndarethTalk 08:16, 22 April 2006 (EDT)
I've heard this, but never experienced it. So far, I've only been infected by meleeing with a vampire. Quillan 11:55, 22 April 2006 (EDT)

It happened to me before. Eowiel 11:55, 25 April 2006 (EDT)

Confirming, happened to me yesterday when I tried to sleep in a bedroll deep in dungeons of Sancra Tor(sp?). You don't sleep really (I had a level pending, didn't level up), you just get a dialog saying you had a nightmare, then you become a vampire, no disease, no time to cure or visit a temple, simply "vampirism added", "vampiric abilities added" right after you click "ok". I knew of this discussion so I made a screenshot, if unbelievers want to see I can post it somewhere. Seems this thing is dependant on bed you pick, because I loaded the game two or three times, retrying with that bedroll and every time got infected again. (or maybe it's about this level? I'd just become level 10...) --Vook 02:46, 28 April 2006 (EDT)

Are you sure this isn't a case of having been infected some days earlier without realising it? That happened to my wife, she reloaded and checked to find that she had in fact contracted the disease a few days earlier and hadn't realised it. All you get is a brief message saying "You have been infected with a disease". -- EndarethTalk 02:59, 28 April 2006 (EDT)
You were right I'm afraid. I loaded that save and tried using "cure disease" prior to sleeping - and it prevented the effect. Likely that message and no visible signs of earlier contracting the disease (if you don't see the message, there are no hints) makes people believe they were bitten while sleeping.
That's wrong. If you go to the magic menu and click on the magic effects tab, you will se a Drain Fatigue effect or something like that. If you hover it, it will say "Porphyric Hemophilia", or whatever. --MiSP 18:45, 28 April 2006 (EDT)
true again, it was huddled somewhere on the long, long list of active effects, seems I missed it the first time I looked through them.--Vook 09:13, 29 April 2006 (EDT)
i Find that sleeping in the wilderness in a bandit camps near forts gets the disease mainly the ones near vampire areas must be that im either getting some other disease or just seeing things
I can confirm that this can happen. I had never fought a vampire before (so zero chance of an unnoticed infection), and one night in a hotel, I woke up to a message something like this: "You dream of a sleeping person, and a figure moves over the person, giving a bite on the neck. You see the face of the sleeping person and realize it is your face. You wake up screaming."
Should this be added to the article, or should we see if there's a potential trigger for this happening first? 72.200.100.219 23:09, 15 January 2008 (EST)
I'd really like to find out some explanation for this before adding it to the article. In particular, it's a safe bet that it has nothing to do with the bed that you just happened to be sleeping in. The message you describe is just the standard message that accompanies the first vampire nightmare. Therefore, there is no special significance to the message; it does not mean that the events in the dream supposedly happened to you while you were sleeping. Rather, given the standard progression of vampirism, it means that whatever triggered your vampirism happened three days earlier (or more, if you hadn't slept in a while).
In other words, so far what you have amounts to "under some unknown circumstance I caught vampirism without noticing it". Sorry, but in my opinion vague information like that really doesn't help other readers. --NepheleTalk 23:23, 15 January 2008 (EST)
Make sure you aren't in the dark brotherhood, because it might have had something to do with Vicente Valtieri coming to you a few days prior. There are a few quest involving vampires.--Puddle 17:10, 29 February 2008 (EST)
How do you know you didn't fight a vampire at some point in time, not all vampires have "Vampire" in their name, and sometimes the message dosn't appear that says you contracted PH, and if you do not look in your spell list it is likely you won't know you have it.

Can't become a Vampire again

Well, after i've completed allmost all the quests in the game, I wanted to become a Vapire again. I found some Vapires and got the disease. But after i've slept more than a week, I'm still not a vampire! I've been vampire once before, but that was early in the game, and i've finished the cure vapireism quest. Anyone know if its a bug preventing me or something ells?

I beleive that this is a known issue (Though I'm not sure if Bethesda considers it a bug, or if it is working as intended). Currently it is not possible to become a vampire after you are cured of it. Fushi 04:09, 24 April 2006 (PDT)

This is indeed the case, and working as intended. There's an internal flag (can't remember exact name), which begins the game as 0, which is normal mode, susceptible to vampirism. Contracting vampirism sets the flag to 1, 2, 3, etc. Curing it sets the flag to -1, making you immune to vampirism. -- EndarethTalk 03:09, 28 April 2006 (EDT)

Note: I found the above mentioned flag, it's 'pcvampire'. So to become a vampire again, simply 'set pcvampire to 1'. I did this after completing all quests in the game, and wanted to become a vampire again to access the vampire dungeon in the Kumiko Manor mod. I'm not sure what went wrong (probably the hood that is supplied for protection against the sun), but after using a cure vampirism potion a few of the vampire attributes remained, and not only once but several times each (once for each time I put on/took off the hood). Also, my character still looks all wrinkled up. Resetting my race using the showracemenu command does fix it, but it also resets all my minor skills, and removes all the permanent major skill increases I obtained through quests. This is probably exclusive to the Kumiko Manor vampire hood, but I'm not 100% sure.

Stages of Vampirism: No need to sleep

The information on "Stages of Vampirism" is INCORRECT. You DO NOT NEED TO SLEEP to advance in Vampirism. WAITING can make you advance.

The edit would have been too long, and I don't have the specific times for stages. Someone should edit it.

It's based on how long it has been since you've fed. But you need either to load something, or wait, to activate it. I just wait and it happens.

Mechanics wise, waiting (T key, by default) and Sleeping are the same, with the exception that sleeping will let you advance a level. However, fast travel, normal travel, standing around and entering/exiting buildings will not trigger a vampire level increase. You have to either Wait or Sleep. Fushi 04:15, 24 April, 2006 (PDT)

Contracted Porphyric Hemophilia while a vampire?

I have been a vampire for a while, and ended up in some vampire fight, and got the message "You have contracted Porphyric Hemophilia". What's up with that? Unless I saw the wrong message and I caught something that has a similar spelling?

No reason it shouldn't be considered a stackable effect really. -- EndarethTalk 01:51, 8 May 2006 (EDT)

Either you saw the wrong message, or it was a bug. Vampirism gives you 100 % Resist Disease. --MiSP 10:14, 8 May 2006 (EDT)

Hello, my story: I had contracted Vampirism, slept to recieve the Vampirism (25) plus the rest of the vamp effects, went to a shrine to remove the "Drain Fatigue", fought a vamp and was given another contraction message, and the Active Effects page showed that the Drain Fatigue was reapplied (mouseover of "Porphtric Hemophelia (2)"). So, I contracted vampirism even though I already had it. I again went to a shrine and removed the Drain Fatigue again no problem. --Brendle 02:55, 24 July 2006 (EDT)

@MiSP: Au contraire, I got Vampirism from the DB quests, but I've, nevertheless, recieved a -10 Drain Fatigue due to "Porphtric Hemophelia" (sp?) after I've went through some vampire-infected caves. I chose to ingnore it, but now I'm curious how it could've happened. D: --Burunduk 23:09, 26 September 2006 (EDT)

Well, that makes two of us (I'm curious too). --MiSP 06:32, 29 September 2006 (EDT)

Confirmed. I contracted Porphyric Hemophilia during my quest for Mehrune's Razor despite being in the second stage of Vampirism. I suspect that it does not have the proper disease flag making the resistance useless. Now I'm on a tangent to try for Double Vampirism! :[ --OGRastamon 20:31, 22 November 2006 (EST)

if you look in active effects you'll see that vampirism REPLACES porphyric haemophilla, allowing you to become diseased again (disease immunity doesn't seem to work completely) — Unsigned comment by 75.154.124.81 (talk)

I kind of tested this out, it seems that the resist disease is only around 75%. If you take an Argonian into a vampire infested cave your only 25% likely to get the disease then other classes, the same thing if you are already a vampire. However I have not contracted it with an Argonian vampire, the only reason I can thik for this is the two values add up to a disease resistance of over 100%.161.57.229.103 02:47, 8 May 2008 (EDT)xBlink N Die

I love being an Argonian (75%) and sometimes play as a vamp (100%) (total 175% resistence) I often receive diseases though I always forget... Also it is "RESIST" not "Immunity" to disease... That might help! Drake3555 23:42, 14 May 2008 (EDT)

Hiding your condition

On patched PC version, being a vampire seems to be a hard way : even members of guilds the player has reached are scared by seeing him, guards attack him. Wearing the marvellous Nocturnal's Cowl has no influence ... the lower limit of the Nocturnal's Cowl or the upper one of vampiric capacities ?

  • It depends on how long ago (game time) you've fed. If you've fed in the past couple of days, NPCs will treat you normally. At around the border between two to three days, some NPCs will comment that you look ill or unwell. As long as you feed often, being a vampire is relatively easy, especially if you belong to guilds that give you plenty of access to sleeping people, i.e. the Mages Guild. Instead of trying to wear Nocturnal's Cowl to counter vampirism, try the Daedric artifact the Masque of Clavicus Vile - it boosts your personality by 20 points. -Annacecilia 02:55, 14 February 2008 (EST)

Contracted Porphyric Hemophilia but not turning into a vampire?

I've got the bug but I can't become a vampire no matter how many times I sleep. It took me a while to get it as an Argonian but does the disease resistance actually interfere with the transformation? If I look in my active effects it shows fatigue drain due to Porphyric Hemophilia but resting for days on end has never made me a vampire. Anyone else run into this?

Me too!!!!!!! I have contracted Vampirisom 100 times and i wated, slept and fast traveld to pass the time but i havent become a vampire!!!!!!!!! I hade the game before my hard drive crashed 2 times. I got the game a week ago and i simpely can't be a vampire!!!!!!

If I am not mistaken, you must remain awake for some time before sleeping (3 days). These were the instructions that Vincent gave me when passing on the gift.--OGRastamon 20:33, 22 November 2006 (EST)

Ok I have a HUGE problem with vampirism... I can't get PH. I fight a vampire, a message pops up with me contracting PH, but when I look in my Active Effects, there's no Drain Fatigue effect. I've tried a dozen things and was even ready to use the console to be a vampire, but the console also seems to have a problem. After I set the pcvampire to 2 and player.av vampirism to 25, I get 50% vampire but what I don't get is the Hunters Insight. When I next feed on someone, I return to 25% vampirism, but can't advance anymore (I waited, slept, combined the two... no effect). Please, I'd appreciate any advice on how to fix this. 87.250.34.197 05:34, 26 December 2006 (EST)

If you're messing with console commands any way, you might want to try player.addspell VampDisease. That's the command used by all scripts to trigger vampirism, and it looks like you have to have that "spell" for the rest of the vampirism script to be executed. --Nephele 13:53, 11 January 2007 (EST)
Hmm dunno about that... If it works, great. However, if you're already messing with the console, I stronly recommend just using the "Turn me into a full vampire" stone in the testinghall. After most/all things failed for me (including the other stone that just gives you the disease... did nothing for me at the time [works now, after the update, though... I can be a vampire twice :P]), the Full Vamp stone worked like a charm Lisan al Gaib 16:15, 23 January 2007 (EST)
Apparently that spell doesn't exist. Sam324 19:59, 4 August 2007 (EDT)
Argonians can become vampires, I actually think they make the best vampires because they are the only race that actually gets 100% disease resistance(the 100% it says you get from being a vampire isnt right but adding the disease resistance of the vampire with that of the Argonian makes it above 100% making it work right). And you do not have to remain awake before you sleep, if you wait 3 days before you sleep your at the last stage of vampirism or 100%, if you stay awake for 2 days your at 75% and so on so fourth. And if you have the disease but can not become a vampire you probably got the disease before and cured it without knowing(praying at any alters, eating an ingredient or drinking a potion that cures disease, etc etc).161.57.229.103 18:48, 8 May 2008 (EDT)xBlink N Die

Clarification Re: Advantages

The author writes "nor can you associate with or avoid being attacked by vampire antagonists". Does this refer to antagonists with Vampirism or those who antagonize vampires? I'm not trying to nitpick. I find the difference important. As a vampire I am as yet uncertain how I will be viewed by vampire hunters. I do know how I am viewed by other vampires and it ain't pretty.--OGRastamon 20:47, 22 November 2006 (EST)

Other vampires just treat you the same. NPC Vampire Hunters don't really exist. TET 14:38, 11 May 2007 (EDT)

NPC Vampire Hunters do exist, but they'll treat you just like any PC. Without giving away any spoilers, you could talk to them in the light of day and convince them to kill other vampires.

That all depends on if you can get the NPC vampire hunters to talk to you. Sometimes they will act like other NPC characters and try to avoid you. 161.57.229.103 18:56, 8 May 2008 (EDT)xBlink N Die

Greywin

Why is Greywin a notable vampire? He's only mentioned in a book, he is not an NPC Lisan al Gaib 15:22, 18 January 2007 (EST)

Stages of Vampirism

"You advance through the stages of Vampirism during sleep or waiting. After 24 hours of waking activity (total of 24 hours, not counting sleep in-between,)". Is "not counting the sleep in-between" part supposed to mean that you can't advance waiting/sleeping for 24 hrs then waiting/sleeping again? Cause if it is, it's wrong and should be removed. I often do that when I need some extra power or just Strength to carry more items Lisan al Gaib 14:45, 12 January 2007 (EST)

Sounds like that phrase needs to be removed. --Nephele 16:37, 12 January 2007 (EST)

Sleeping Coffin and Vampirism?

I noticed in the article is says that in Deepscorn Hollow, sleeping in the coffin once you purchase the bedroom area will turn you into a vampire. I tried this one time and it worked, but I found that I only turned into a vampire because I already had porphyric hemophilia. Once I drank a potion of cure disease and slept in the coffin nothing happened... I figured either the coffin thing isn't true or I'm doing something wrong, so any help here would be useful.

And while I'm at it, I've got another quick question. If I am a vampire and I cure it with the purgeblood salts in the pool thing, than is it like the vampire cure quest where you can't become a vampire again after catching porphyric hemophilia? or can you keep turning into a vampire and curing it as many times as I want. Im playing on the 360 by the way

In the construction set I don't see anything special about the "Sleeping Coffin". In particular it doesn't have a script or enchantment, which is how I would expect something like turn-into-a-vampire to be done. I haven't had a chance to test the addition to this page saying that the coffin will turn you into a vampire, but now that I've looked in the construction set I'm skeptical. Information from anyone who has tested this in game would be really helpful.
The pool of renewal vampire cure works the exact same way as the quest's potion. In particular, both set the variable "PCVampire" to -1, which I'm pretty sure is the internal setting that prevents you from ever becoming a vampire again (aha, yes, the notes earlier on this page confirm that). So vampirism is still a one-time only option. --Nephele 13:24, 11 January 2007 (EST)
I think you're having the same problem that other people have had where you didn't know you already had PH and you slept in the coffin, turning into a vampire. Sam324 11:15, 7 August 2007 (EDT)
I'm going to confirm this. I found that I accidentally had PH because I went to the Dark Brotherhood sanctum and slept on Vicente Valliteri's slab and awoke a vampire. So I called up the save before I slept, cast "cure disease" on myself and then slept on the slab and only slept. --Kragshot Feb 27 08
No the coffin will not turn you into a Vampire, it is just a rumor that someone started, probably because they had PH and didnt know it. I had been using the coffin for a while before I went and got infected on purpose so I could do the quest and get the ashes of Hindrail out of my inventory.161.57.229.103 02:36, 8 May 2008 (EDT)xBlink N Die

What am I doing Wrong?

I am playing as a dunmer and for some reason, whether I contract the disease or am bitten by the dark brotherhood member I CANNOT become a vampire. I would like to know if it is because dunmer already have red eyes (I know this makes me sound like a noob but I have seemed to have tried everything else) I also don't appear to have any immunity to disease and have never contracted it before or cured it. — Unsigned comment by 124.177.132.140 (talk)

Firstly do you have any mods installed? — Unsigned comment by Jadrax (talkcontribs)
Mods could be the problem, its most certianly not because you are a dunmer. Here are a few other questions:
  • Have you messed around with your save game or CS variables, or used the in-game console at all. If you are playing on Xbox, then you have not.
  • Do you see the message "You have contracted Pyroforic Hemerofelia" at the top of the screen? If not, you actually never contracted the disease, most likely due to resist disease.
  • Have you waited three days after seeing the message about Pyroforic Hemerofellia before praying at an altar or wayshrine, curing diseases, etc?
  • This may sound obvious, but: have you slept (not waited) in a bed after waiting three days?
If you answered yes to the first question, or no to any of the last three, then the problem should be easy to fix. For furtre refrence: please mention the version and system of the game when asking for support (I am assuming you have the latest patch, you must download it from Xbox Live (free membership ok) or Bethesda's website (PC only). As for system, I have tried to cover problems on both.) -- Dylnuge(talk · edits) 14:20, 23 January 2007 (EST)

Vampire Problem *Includes Spoiler*

Okay, so i join the dark brotherhood, get contracted with Phorific Hemophilia, and i waited (T-Key) for three days, Then slept, and i wouldn't change. I think, if you use a bed to sleep before the three days is up, as i did (Got kicked out of DB had to face Wrath Of Sithis) It won't take effect. I eventually got bored and got cured at the chapel. Spoiler: I got to the bit where i have been contacted by Lucien Lachance, and i've done this before so i know what happens next. Does anyone know if for that quest when you fight with Vincente you can get contracted with vampirism, 'coz i need to know whether to drag the fight out and make it more likely, or to just kill him instantly?

He is a vampire, so yes, you can contract Porphiric Hemophilia while fighting him. But if he doesen't give you the disease after about a minute or two while fighting him, your vampirism might be bugged :/. In that case I suggest doing what I did, open console, type coc testinghall, find the vampire testing room and click on the turn me into a full vampire stone. Oh one thing. Before you do that, make sure you get the latest patch if you don't have it (some problems with vampirism were fixed in the 1.01 version) Lisan al Gaib 08:02, 28 January 2007 (EST)

I can't get the patch, something to do with "File not found, another file was found with the same name but does not have the correct data." Don't worry I'm sure it'll be fine. If i play another character and use the same method to vampirism, what do i do to make it work? I've done it before but I'm unsure what to do.....

A friend of a friend had a simmilar problem ;)... Did you maybe install (ie. replaced Oblivion.exe with) a NoDVD crack or something simmilar? Cause if you have, the solution would be to just get that Oblivion.exe file back (if you made a backup, simply put it back, if not you can reinstall the game). After patching, you can replace the file again Lisan al Gaib 15:25, 29 January 2007 (EST)
It's possible he bought the Direct2Drive version, like I did. Direct2Drive.com has a version of the patch made for their...ahem, "edited," version of the Oblivion.ini file. Qubeheheheh 08:47, 17 June 2007 (EDT)

Funny Thing to Try

Not sure if this works or not but would be funny if it did. You know the poision apple? Well, after doing the cure for vampirisim quest, and if you don't want the cure potion, use the cure vampirisim potion on a vampire as you would a poision apple. (or try getting them to use it somehow not sure if potions and food work the same) And see if they turn into a human! Please post it if this worked or not if you try it. Pappasmurf 10:00, 2 February 2007 (EST)

Nope. There's a difference between potions and poisons. When you "use" a potion, it is used on you. When you "use" a poison, the computer asks you if you want to poison your weapon or not. Ie you can't poison yourself (except with a potion made from Poison Apple and/or Chokeberries, but that's a bug [or they thought it too be too potent]) and you can't use potions on others Lisan al Gaib 10:23, 2 February 2007 (EST)
True, but it's also important to notice that poison apple is not a poison, but an ingredient. This still makes curing a vampire NPC with the potion impossible, but, you know, just to make things clear. --84.2.150.211 08:43, 20 April 2007 (EDT)
What I think he's asking is if you can reverse pick-pocket the potion (I don't know if it's weightless) then have them drink it, though I suppose the only way to do this would be to attack them since otherwise the vampire wouldn't drink a potion (they'd eat food for food, not potions for food, right?). --Adoring Fan 17:17, 1 April 2008 (EDT)
I just tried to reverse pickpocket the potion and it dosn't work, at least it didnt for me, it wouldn't let me give the potion to the person.161.57.229.103 19:02, 8 May 2008 (EDT)xBlink N Die

Color Change

I moved the following commentary from the main page: --Nephele 16:26, 2 February 2007 (EST)

Here's an interesting tidbit; I had created a blue charactor (don't judge me... :P ) and had accidentally contracted vamirisim and my character turned pale flesh tone! Needless to say that looked kind of odd with my blue arms and torso and dismayed me more that a little. Therefore, as a complete side note, if you make a blue (or yellow or green... not sure if green is possible though...) charactor and contract vampirisim you will no longer be that unnatural color you grew to love. :'(
The precise effect is that your character's colour is reset to the default for that race. Additionally if you are female your face mesh if you do not load an older save game, will be replaced with the defaul MALE head appearance, which is why female vampires tend to look plain stupid. --85.62.18.8 13:12, 5 April 2008 (EDT)

Vampire counts

I think Nephele and I may have used different methods to arrive at our vampire counts. I used the number of predominantly vampiric monster markers that always spawn a creature as the low number and added those that had a chance of not spawning to get the top number - even though any one of these might spawn a creature other than a vampire, as Nephele's note explains.

I think Nephele used the number of markers that are guaranteed to spawn and only spawn vampires for the low number, which is more accurate, I admit in retrospect. -- JustTheBast 12:55, 5 March 2007 (EST)

Yep, my low end was only counting guaranteed vampires, i.e., entries like LL1Vampire100, not just guaranteed creatures. I had started by adding in the LL2VampireLair100-type entries to the count, then realized that there are several non-vampire options in that list (3/6 chance vampires, 2/6 chance undead, 1/6 animal). If players are keeping track of vampires for whatever reason (collecting vampire dust?) and want to actually have the number of vampires in a cave, it seemed like including LL2VampireLair100 as a guaranteed vampire would be misleading. --Nephele 16:17, 5 March 2007 (EST)
I had counted the predominantly vampiric lists like LL2VampireLair100 as "Vampire, who may be replaced by undead or beast", but you are right; it is misleading, despite your footnote. I'll go and change the two counts accordingly. -- JustTheBast 16:33, 5 March 2007 (EST)

Help, I don't want to be a vampire

I got the add on, found the liar then got the purge blood salt. I got into both the fountain at the shrine and the pool where the salts were, but I am still a vampire. What am I missing?

Did you activate the column in the middle of the font of renewal (i.e., the pool of water next to where you collect purge blood salts)? What message did you get when you activated the column? ---Nephele 20:50, 10 March 2007 (EST)

Vampirism Cure Window

WARNING: If you do not normally sleep on a regular basis and usually simply use the "wait" option, you will become a vampire the FIRST time that you sleep after being infected. The game timer does not seem to work properly under these conditions. Instead, it counts all of that time that it's been since you last slept (probably your last level up) and applies Vampirism as if it's been the full 72 hours. This means that if you want to avoid becoming a vampire, that you need to cure yourself of disease BEFORE you attempt to sleep as the 72 hour "cure window" will be ignored by the game.

Can anyone confirm this information? In the scripting, I don't see why it would count the time since you last slept. The vampirism daycount timer doesn't start until you have the disease. Is there any chance that you just caught the disease at an earlier time and didn't realize it? --Nephele 14:06, 14 March 2007 (EDT) Yes that same thing happened to me I got the disease and waited for and hour and i had already become a vampire i was kind of confused when this happenend.--Oblivion

Eye Problem

Not really a problem, per se, but I am playing as an Argonian and when I became a vampire, my eyes changed! I was looking to see how much 25% Vampirism looked and my eyes were human looking with the red tinge. Kinda crazy looking the first time I saw it. Oh and by the way, the servant for Rosethorn finally said something different! I was waiting for her to sleep so I could feed and when I walked up to her she said something like "Something seems...amiss with you, milord".--Quidon88 12:25, 21 March 2007 (EDT)

Added "Note about skill increases in Magic"

Hi, I'm new to this place and thought I would add my 2 cents. I added a comment about skill increases in magic when you are at a higher level in vampirism. I discovered this one day when I was unable to cast the new spell I created after I fed. It's a nice advantage and one reason I like playing at 100% vampire all the time in my game. Cheers.

-*EDIT* Thanks for whoever added the link to the other skill boosts info. I wasn't sure about that myself.

I added the vampire nightmares into the article. I noticed that it was lacking it. Vethrian 20:02, 8 April 2007 (EDT)

The comment about Resist Fire and Sun damage

Has anyone else had a chance to mess around with this? I had a Dark Elf vampire who, with enchantments from sigil stones, had resist fire near 200%. This, however, did not seem to help much at all with the blasted sun damage. Can anyone validate and hopefully quantify the comment about resist fire?

As a sidenote, I also tried getting resist magic quite high, (100% anyway). I still seem to be taking full sun damage with 125% resist fire (not counting the 50% weakness) and 100% resist magic. --70.176.248.24 11:21, 5 May 2007 (EDT)Stevil

Just did a test. Full Vampirism, 113 HP. Took 15 seconds to die from sun damage at noon with both -50% Resist Fire (default for full vampire) and with 90% Resist Fire (4 Sigil Stones at 35% each = 140%, -50% from vampirism). Removing comment from article. --Deathbane27 12:28, 5 May 2007 (EDT)
Thanks for confirming. Damn I wish it did though :D

Problems with advancing after eating the Heart?

Hi, I'm playing on the Xbox 360 and I chose to eat the Beating Heart from the Mehrunes Razor quest to become a vampire. I am able to attain the first level of vampirism easily, but no amount of waiting or sleeping will give me a higher level then the first. I've slept and waited each for about two weeks with no effects. Any ideas? — Unsigned comment by 67.160.91.133 (talk)

You need to go some time without feeding before sleeing to advance in rank. — Unsigned comment by 90.240.191.166 (talk)

Sleeping Outside

In the 'Notes' section of this article it reports that: "If you are outside of a town and you are taking sun damage, try to find a bed to sleep on. You can sleep until the sun sets to avoid dying from the daylight." I assumed that this was referring to a bed outdoors and I woke up dead (strangely with my Health bar still full). I may have just misinterpreted the wording of this, however, a warning of some sorts might be a good idea. -Arador 20:38, 4 June 2007 (EDT)

Skill Increases Question

I wonder if I could just clarify something. The vampire skill increases work a bit like the Skeleton Key bonus; they stop you increasing your skills and therefore your level if the bonus pushes them to or above 100? However, I understand they are also different from the Night Mother's Blessing etc, which stop you getting to 100 for some reason (I'm not sure how this works, but that's what it says here). So, in other words, if your Destruction skill is say, 90, and you become a vampire, pushing it up to 95, can you then train from 95-100 as normal? Similarly, if you then cure yourself, will it then drop back down to 95 if you trained to this 100? Finally, can you train to 100, and then use Vampirism to get to 120, which, if I'm right, will reduce your magicka costs for spells?

A bit convoluted - sorry - but help would be awesome. Thanks. — Unsigned comment by 87.127.79.8 (talk)

The article on Free Skill Boosts provides some of the information you're looking for. All three of the bonuses you mention are treated as "abilities" and therefore work the same way. Vampirism will boost the base value of your skills, so it becomes more expensive and difficult to train up and increase the skills. You can get to 100 in any skill with or without vampirism, but with vampirism you can miss out on some attribute bonuses. If you train destruction to 100 and then become a vampire, your skill value will be boosted past 100, but you don't benefit from the boost (see Skills). Almost all skill values max out at 100, so 100 in destruction is the same as 120 or even 250. --NepheleTalk 02:07, 20 June 2007 (EDT)
To add on to what Nephele was saying, no the Destruction skills or other skills wont do anything past 100, but the +20 from the 3 attributes and from athletics and acrobatics can help you out past 100. If you are trying to become a Vampire on purpose I would recommend getting 100 in Strength, Willpower, Speed, Athletics and Acrobatics before you get the disease.161.57.229.103 01:37, 8 May 2008 (EDT)xBlink N Die

Would fire resistance protect from sun damage?

If I had 100% fire shield could I not take sun damage? 68.60.226.203 17:48, 1 August 2007 (EDT)

No, because Sun Damage is a completely separate effect.

Vampirism by Choice (moved from main article)

The second way to become a vampire by choice doesn't work. — Unsigned comment by 70.17.32.210 (talk)

Easy way to get blood grass and night shade.

An easy way to get blood grass and night shade is if you have the wizard tower thing then go to the ingridient part of the tower and there you can find nightshade and blood grass. I had to do that because I couldn't find any nightshade and i finished the main quest so i could not go to the plane of oblivion to get the stuff.

Doesn't go through the normal Vampirism stages

I happen to be having the same problem (Yes, me again in Oblivion this time!). I followed OGRastamon's instructions on waiting THEN resting after contracting PH. I successfully transformed into a vampire, but I don't go through the normal stages of vampirism. I tried waiting and resting but that didn't work. I have also tried the instant Vampirism headstone and I get the same results. (Patched to the latest version [1.2.0416{Non-SI}]) I disabled all my mods and it still didn't work. Sam324 19:59, 4 August 2007 (EDT)

Never mind, I found this great mod called Vampire Script Fix. It fixes this problem.

Human Blood Doesnt Work?

In Vincent's valteri's desk and if you have done the thieves guild quest with the pale lady, you will find they both have Human Blood in their possession. Now a vampire sucks Human Blood, so if you drink human blood obtained in the potion like form wouldn't that be the same as sucking someones blood?

Its not, tested and tried, drinking human blood from the bottle does not act as a substitute for actually sucking someones blood.

These don't actually work, but there are several mods that make it work like it should. See here. —Sam324 10:54, 12 August 2007 (EDT)

Sun Damage In Oblivion

I'm a vampire and I'm about to start completing the main quest, but I want to know first, can you get hit by sun damage in the planes of oblivion, ie, through the oblivion gates. cos i dont think there's a sun in there, is there? Any help would be welcome, thanks. — Unsigned comment by 220.238.213.26 (talk)

Correct: there is no sun in the Planes of Oblivion, therefore vampires do not take any sun damage while in Oblivion. --NepheleTalk 21:45, 13 October 2007 (EDT)

Face Issue

I keep reading about a problem with vampire faces - mainly that you have to keep a save game from before your character was a vampire, and load it before your 'infected one', otherwise your character will walk around with the default vampire face. I was just wondering if anyone had experienced this issue and if there is any truth in it. Also, if it is the case, and you have to load this preliminary save each time you play, do you have to do it with quicksave/load as well? Because that would be a fluppin' nightmare. Thanks. — Unsigned comment by 87.127.79.8 (talk)

I got Porphyric Hemophilia and I drank a cure disease potion. But no one will talk to me, like when you gain 100% vampire. I look the same and I don't have any vampirism skills or powers. Is there any way to fix this.

-- I also got the face issue with my female Dunmer. Using the sexchange command did not work, nor did advancing in vampirism. Strangely enough, when I installed Shivering Isles and slept, my face became normal again. Roguelike.

-- I have the face issue, can testify that it is a problem. I didn't know about this issue before I became a vampire though so I didn't have a save with the correct face (I only noticed the problem after 3 hours of playing, and many save overwrites after I became a vampire). So I loaded the character race editor thru the console ("showracescreen" I think?) and that reverted my face back to what I made it. However it also reverted some of my minor stats...not sure why that happened. So basically now I have a save that I can load with the correct face, incorrect stats, and then I load the right save which has my stats and current spot in the quest lines. Lots of trouble I know...but the only time I notice the face gets loaded incorrectly is when I've exited the game and gone back in. So that's when I have to first load the previous game and then switch to the real one that I'm playing on.

-- To get ur face back after cured type "showracemenu" in console, then move age slider just a bit so char will change face for original and save game. Do not press done button cose this will make ur skills reset. Just load that save u made on race screen.
