Gas rooms in planes of oblivion?[edit]

This page says: "Gas Room. Found in: Ayleid Ruins, Planes of Oblivion" I closed 60 oblivion gates and never once encountered a gas room trap. Might this be an error? 184.56.10.239 02:56, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

This is pretty strange, maybe it is referring to Spiddal Stick?--Corevette789 03:06, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
I was thinking something like that too, but then there's this: "Gas Rooms found in Oblivion are generally identical, save for the material of the wall," implying an indoors presence. If, by chance, there is one, then it's far enough out of the way that I could've never found it. 184.56.10.239 04:28, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
There are about 8 or 10 in Ayleid Ruins that I could find in the Construction Set — try Anutwyll just outside of Bravil in the really large room there. I only found a couple of references to gas traps in Oblivion, but it's hard to find them when I don't know exactly what I'm looking for. The one I tested was in The Bowels in the gate just outside Cheydinhal that you do as part of The Wayward Knight. It was on the top-most floor in a room with two fleshy pods (one ceiling, one floor) and a Harrada. I found that one really hard to trigger, but occasionally a flesh/claw thing would rise up out of the floor and surround me, roughly at the center of the two pods and Harrada. If there was gas in there, I didn't see it, but jumping around with the Console can cause all sorts of anomalies and I was distracted, so it may or may not actually activate as it should. It's marked as a gas trap in the CS, though, so I have to assume it was intended to be one, at least. Robin HoodTalk 21:12, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
I've encountered the trap RobinHood described a few times, never had it trigger gas though (simply holds you in place for a time) - perhaps a bug somewhere? Walbert 21:19, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

Trapped Chests[edit]

I haven't seen any mention of trapped chests any where. How can you avoid them and/or disarm them? Can you trap your own chest? How do you even know if it's trapped in the first place? — Unsigned comment by 70.94.17.190 (talk) on 2 May 2010

Trapped chests are added by OOO. You avoid them by having a high security. — Unsigned comment by 108.1.209.56 (talk) on 2 May 2010
Certainly there are no trapped chests in the vanilla game, which is why we don't list them. rpeh •TCE 16:27, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

Using traps to your advantage[edit]

I suggest adding something (small note, entire section, I'm sure either could be done) about using traps to your own advantage, for instance sneaking and pushing an enemy into an abyss, grabbing a swinging mace or a citadel and letting it fly (usually works best if sneaking as well) or luring enemies into spike pits/spiked ceilings/darts/gas traps/etc. Also, why is an abyss a trap, but lava isn't? Both are parts of the environment, both do harm to someone who stumbles into them. -- /\/\oses 03:03, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

I added a meager sentence as a general tip. I could see the reasoning for lava being a trap, though it's more environmental like water or a hill. Though then again most traps are triggered. Feel free to add it if you'd like. -- Jplatinum16 03:33, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

Disappearing land mines[edit]

Long ago I've found some strange error with land mines from planes of Oblivion, and it still seems to occur: if you will come close enough to the mine to trigger its jump but without detonating it, then move away, wait for the mine to get into half-way to the ground and then once again come close to it, the mine will instantly disappear. Have anyone else experienced it? - ZuTheSkunk 17:28, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

To clarify: it happened more than once to me. I can do it each time with every mine I encounter. - ZuTheSkunk 19:17, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
I'll try it tomorrow. If it happens to me too, then we will put it on the article. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 19:26, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
So? - ZuTheSkunk 01:22, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
Any kind of reply? - ZuTheSkunk 14:12, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
You might want to post on his talk page. I don't think he watches the RC.--Ghurhak gro-Demril or TAOYes? 14:26, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Ways to reduce physical trap's damage[edit]

It seems the only way is Resist Normal Weapons effect. Armor rating, shield spell and reflect damage have no effect. Tested on swinging blade. — Unsigned comment by 213.145.155.74 (talk) on 18 April 2011

Also tested on the Falling Blades. Good find! rpeh •TCE 06:47, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

Citadel guillotine blade.[edit]

Are you sure it will damage you if you walk into it? It seems to work in a different way than falling blades in Ayleid ruins.

Cave In Glitch?[edit]

When I ran under an opening for a cave in trap in Pale Pass fort, it triggered the usual shaking and rumbling, but the rocks didn't fall. After walking under to look up at the trap, I fired an arrow at the rocks and they all dropped as soon as it hit (crushing me immediately, of course). I haven't been able to repeat this from a save earlier in the fort. Just wondering if this has been encountered by others, and whether it's glitch with the trigger or if perhaps the physics of the rocks just happened to do something particularly odd that time.141.151.80.140 00:24, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

I would attribute this to a rare physics glitch where objects will not move properly, although triggered. I've seen it too. I would think that it is just a small glitch of the game engine. --DKong27 Tk Ctr Em 03:22, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

Landmine Instant Death?[edit]

Apparently hitting landmines with fire damage on-target in the Planes Of Oblivion is a bad idea as sometimes the instant after it's been exploded a piece of the trap itself or a fireball will comes flying at you with great prejudice and if it makes contact you are instantly killed. They're difficult to avoid if t happens too as they're usually travelling the speed of AoE spell-flung objects. Tried on different Oblivion Worlds and at different levels and health levels up to 25.
