A guar?

In my game (PC GotY) Tarvyn Faren comes without a guar. Maybe he had one in earlier versions of the game and it was removed at some point?--Mortzestus 06:07, 26 April 2007 (EDT)

I don't think Tarvyn has ever had a guar with him. I think there may be some confusion between this quest and A Man and His Guar. --Gaebrial 07:56, 16 August 2007 (EDT)

Cannot get quest without being in House Hlaalu?

As the subject line states, contrary to what the Note in the wiki says about being able to do this quest without being in House Hlaalu, I think one does have to be in the House (and have completed the requisite quests) to receive this one or at least not have advanced so much in another house already (see my additional info below)? But this is my first time playing MW so maybe there are other factors I'm not considering? Will see what happens if I do end up joining House Hlaalu (not currently planning on doing so this playthrough). Just trying to get some verification re: the Note in the wiki about being able to do this quest.

Additional info: Even when I've charmed Edryno Arethi's disposition up to 100 (had been at 41 when I had entered), she greets me courteously ("Hello, I don't believe we've met, I'm Edryno Adrethi"), but presents no dialogue options, only the Persuasion and Training actions. Also, I'm currently one (and a half) steps away from being Archmagister in House Telvanni (have to ask for Advancement and then go kill Gothren), so maybe the Note in the wiki is correct, but I had waited too long to try and start this quest? In which case, I should probably add a note about this on the Quest Timing page (which is how I had found out about this quest as one to do early). Keneticmotion (talk) 08:09, 12 July 2021 (UTC)

Are you running with any mods (e.g. Morrowind Patch Project, Patch for Purists, or something similar, or any mods at all)? I checked Edryno Arethi's dialogue in the Construction Set, and none of her "business" dialogues have any faction requirements whatsoever, meaning you should be able to speak to her about "business" if your disposition is at least 30. Her greeting if you have not spoken to her before ("No, %PCName, I don't believe we've met. My name is Edryno Arethi. I don't have any official title, but I handle House Hlaalu's business here in Vivec.") should unlock the "business" dialogue if you haven't already received it from another source. All of her quests are available to any player in the vanilla game; the note is correct. — Wolfborn^(Howl) 02:18, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
