Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

Almoner Mission[edit]

Iulus Truptor at the Imperial Chapels in Ebonheart will ask you to collect a promised pledge of 500 gold from Cunius Pelelius, owner of the Caldera Mine.

Donation from Cunius Pelelius[edit]

Cunius can be found just inside the door to the Governor's Hall. You can talk to him, and persuade him all you want, but you'll find he won't agree to give anything to you. There are two ways of blackmailing him into donating the pledge:

  • Of all the people in the Hall, only Olumba gro-Boglar in the South Hall upstairs will be of any assistance. Olumba will tell you that Cunius is solving his money troubles by skimming from the ebony mine and smuggling ebony. If you visit the mine to the southwest of Caldera and speak with the slaves, this rumor will be verified (you may need to persuade the slaves to talk). Return to Cunius with this information.
  • If you go through the door to your right (if standing behind his desk) and go up the stairs, you'll come to Odral Helvi's bedroom. You can go through the door on the left and up the stairs also, you end up in Odral Helvi's office, just continue on to the next room. You need a pretty good Security skill, but there is a chest with a ledger in it for the mine. Take the book back to Cunius and use the option "show him the book".

Both ways will squeeze three pieces of Raw Ebony from him, which you should be able to sell for more than 500 gold (depending on your Mercantile skill).

Return to Iulus with the money to receive the following scrolls: Scroll of Black Despair, Scroll of Elevram's Sty, Scroll of Lord Mhas' Vengeance, Scroll of Savage Might, Scroll of The Gambler's Prayer, Scroll of Alvusia's Warping.

Notes[edit]

  • Alternatively, you can just pay the 500 gold pledge yourself, upfront, if you can afford it.
  • If you demand that Pelelius give you the money, he'll attack.
  • If you accuse Pelelius of corruption without evidence, his disposition towards you drops by 10 points.
  • If you fail to obtain 500 gold, Iulus Truptor's disposition towards you drops by 10 points.
  • If you are member of House Redoran, you might want to keep the ledger for the Evidence of Corruption quest.
  • If you free all the slaves before the quest, you will be unable to verify the rumor about Cunius, so you will be forced to solve the quest by using the ledger or by paying the gold yourself.
  • If you do not find the ledger in the chest, check your storage and inventory as you may have already looted it if you had also done the Thieves Guild, Bal Molagmer: Books for Vala quest.

Bugs[edit]

  • If you chose to pay the 500 gold yourself, you won't be able to talk to Cunius anymore; he'll just dismiss you with a "Goodbye."
  • It's possible to talk with Cunius again by taking off clothes.
  • If you ask Iulus Truptor about Cunius Pelelius immediately after receiving the quest, he may erroneously tell you that Pelelius is dead. This is because the game doesn't check to see if Pelelius is alive or not before giving out the dialogue relating to his death.

Quest Stages[edit]

The following Quest_ID and Index codes can be used with the Journal Console command to manually update the quest to a certain point.

Index Finishes Quest Journal Entry
1 Iulus Truptor has sent me to the Governor's Hall in Caldera to persuade Cunius Pelelius of the Caldera Mining Company to donate 500 gold to the Imperial cult's Widows and Orphans Fund. When I've obtained the donation, I'm to deliver it to Iulus Truptor.
10 I asked Cunius Pelelius to donate 500 gold to the Imperial cult's Widows and Orphans Fund. He said he was very busy at the moment, but he would be happy to discuss the donation at a later date.
15 When I spoke to Cunius Pelelius about his donation, I threatened to to reveal his skimming from the ebony mines. He called me a fool, and dismissed me without responding to my threat.
40 When I confronted Cunius Pelelius with the slave's testimony about his sneaking into the Caldera Mine and removing raw ebony, Cunius Pelelius decided to give me three pieces of raw ebony. If I sell these pieces of raw ebony, I should be able to get 500 gold and more to deliver to Iulus Truptor for the the [sic] Widows and Orphans Fund.
42 When I confronted Cunius Pelelius with the Secret Caldera Ledger and its evidence of misappropriation of ebony from the Caldera mines, Cunius Pelelius decided to give me three pieces of raw ebony. If I sell these pieces of raw ebony, I should be able to get 500 gold and more to deliver to Iulus Truptor for the the [sic] Widows and Orphans Fund.
45 Finishes quest☑ I told Iulus Truptor I couldn't get Cunius Pelelius to donate 500 gold to the Imperial cult's Widows and Orphans Fund. Iulus was disappointed, and told me to decide whether my talents and temperaments are suited for soliciting donations. Before I approach him again for an almoner's mission, I must be sure I want to give the Imperial cult my full commitment.
50 Finishes quest☑ I delivered 500 gold to Iulus Truptor for the Widows and Orphans Fund. He was very pleased. He gave me an interesting assortment of scrolls he had received from an anonymous donor, and told me to speak to him again when I'm ready for another almoner's mission.

Donation from Cunius Pelelius (IC13_fight)
1 When I demanded that Cunius Pelelius deliver the money he had promised, he took offense, and attacked me. Now there is no chance that Cunius Pelelius will give me 500 gold for the Widows and Orphans Fund.
Donation from Cunius Pelelius (IC13_rumor)
1 Olumba gro-Boglar, a member of the Imperial cult, told me why Cunius Pelelius is slow to redeem his pledged donation. Olumba says Cunius Pelelius has gotten into money trouble, and that he's trying to handle his trouble by skimming from the Caldera mine and smuggling raw ebony. I might be able to pressure Cunius Pelelius if I had proof of his misdeeds. Olumba says the slaves in the mine would know, but they'll be afraid to talk. Perhaps I can persuade them....
Donation from Cunius Pelelius (IC13_slave)
1 I spoke to a slave in the Caldera Mines, and he said the 'boss man' sneaks in at night, takes ebony, puts it in a bag, then takes it away. Perhaps this is not solid enough evidence to take to the guards. But perhaps, if confronted with this testimony, Cunius Pelelius may reconsider his unwillingness to donate 500 gold to the Widows and Orphans Fund.
