Quote[edit]

To prevent an edit war, I'm starting a discussion on the quote that is the subject of a slight tug-of-war under Undeath and Vengeance. The quote in question?

"Vengeance!" - King Lysandus's shade 3E 405

Personally, I think it's unnecessary. Lysandus says "Vengeance". That doesn't tell us anything about Lysandus. More specifically, it doesn't add to our knowledge of Lysandus.

As fun as the sound file is, presenting the vengeance quote on this page serves no purpose aside from being aesthetic, and it's not a very good aesthetic fit, as it's jammed between an image and a heading. The way it's formatted, it could very well be mistaken as part of the paragraph text at first glance. An indentation isn't enough to make it stand out in a way that adds to the look and feel of the article, and if we put it in a quote box, it would smush the images down further and turn the section from one that looks kind of awkward into one that's an eyesore.

I know that this is a rather easy page for me to pull from, but let's look at one of the quotes from Lore:Molag Bal, particularly under Worship:

"Mehrunes Dagon revels in direct destruction—his cultists will set your city on fire and burn it to the ground. Molag Bal exists to dominate and deceive—his cultists will persuade you that a plague is loose, and the only way to stop it is to burn your city down yourself."

This information isn't repeated anywhere else in the article and illustrates the difference between our two subjects. It tells us something new, and it adds to our knowledge of Molag Bal and his slithering toadies.

To make a long story short, the vengeance quote is too short to be aesthetically pleasing, and has no substance lore-wise. Having the quote on the page doesn't really improve it. If we want to use the sound file somewhere, that's fine, but it might be more appropriate on a gamespace page given that this page is already crammed full of files. The whole point of Dcsg's Community Portal post wasn't to phase out the use of quotes altogether, it was to bring up the issue of quotes being misused or being used in ways that make pages look ugly. The way this quote is being used doesn't make the page look better. -MolagBallet (talk) 23:22, 12 April 2021 (UTC)

I don't feel strongly either way, but "Vengeance!" is an extremely iconic quote from this character and also has in-universe relevance given that his ghostly calls for vengeance ringing through the city of Daggerfall each night is what prompts the entire storyline of TES2. It doesn't offer any additional information, but it's certainly a historical quote. —Legoless (talk) 23:27, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
If there is historical relevance to the word vengence, then I do think its good to have it on there. Now it doesn't even have to be a sound file, maybe just the word itself in the form of a quote. As a small quote it doesn't even need a quote box, but I'm personally fine with either the sound file or doing a small one word quote. As if its the most iconic thing, and that word the reason the whole storyline started to begin with then we for sure should be using it like Legoless said above. What about using it as a caption for an image? — Wolfborn(Howl) 03:56, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
That could work. -MolagBallet (talk) 16:02, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
