Stantus Faleria

Stantus Faleria, an Imperial food vendor, is the publican of the Jerall View Inn, which he runs with his wife, Hjotra.

Stantus dedicates his life to his inn and can be found manning the bar in the main room from 7am to 3am, when he sneaks into his room upstairs for a short nap. During this time he will buy and sell a range of food and drink, as well as offering you a room for just 10 gold. A reliable source of rumors and bounties, Stantus is also in the market for a courier to Greenwood to pick up some mead, and will reward you when you return with a batch of cider from your errand in Applewatch.

His steely side will be evident during The Screeching Songman, when he will unceremoniously evict the tuneless bard Renod Even-Toned for distressing his customers, as well as during your efforts to collect payments for Razzada the Resplendent. Stantus will initially brush off your request, threatening to report the rogue enchanter to the city watch, and it will take some skill to intimidate him into handing over the cash.

His pride in his establishment shines through when talking to him: "We are renowned through all Cyrodiil and beyond as the finest inn, restaurant and entertainment location in all Tamriel. We spare no expense for our customers' pleasure." If you ask about business, he double down on his selling point: "Business at the Jerall View is always good, due to our exceptional standards for customer service. We strongly believe that if you build it, they will come." If you do choose to spend the night, he will show off that famous touch for his clientele: "Ah! You did well to choose the Jerall View. Your room rental also includes complimentary access to the Jerall View bathhouse on the lower floor. Peruse it at your leisure. Our customers find it very rejuvenating."

While husband and wife obviously love each other, Hjotra has a clear view of their relationship: "Stantus tends the bar and rents out the rooms. I keep the View running." Stantus maintains a healthy business rivalry with Bentior, owner of The Restful Watchman, who will remark: "Go over to the Jerall View Inn if it suits you better. Me, I think this inn has more character than mister Stantus Fancypants's little establishment." Meanwhile, over in Greenwood, Afer Famalius has a high opinion of him: "Ah, Stantus! A good family friend and one of the most prolific Greenwood Mead purchasers. Do give him our best."

Stantus wears barkeeper clothes and a pair of matching shoes, and is armed with a steel sword. He also carries a broom, the key to the inn and a random selection of gold, lockpicks, rings, food and drink.

Rumors[edit]

When asked about rumors, Stantus will offer up a wealth of information:

"There's some trouble going on with the Jucanis. Family feud or something. Their arguments aren't exactly hard to overhear."
"I heard the city guard are trying to crack down on smuggling. Been too many illicit goods making their way to Skyrim from here. Empire doesn't like it one bit."
"There's a Thalmor agent here in Bruma, making sure no one violates the Concordat. So I'd advise you not to, if you don't want them to slap you in irons."
"I heard the general store, Ice-Wind Traders, got robbed by the Khajiit, Dar'taqto. Or so Cedus says."
"Adius Vilius has been walking around looking flustered lately. Y'know, captain of the city watch. Not sure what's got him in such a knot, though."
"Reln-Tei has been complaining about some noise nuisiance. Talks my ear off about it. Probably that damnable "bard", Renod "Even-Toned"..."
"You know that "bard", Renod Even-Toned? Yeah. I hear the Jucanis paid him to watch over and entertain their kid Banus while they were out of town. Apparently his attempts at lullabies scared the child so much he ran away from the bard and cried in the street until his parents got back."
"I hear tensions are flaring up in Cheydinhal. They've been bubbling over for a while. Dark Elves and... other Dark Elves, I think. Something to do with the Red Year. Bad business."
"I hear the count's cracking down on criminals in Bravil. About time."
"You ever hear the history of Cloud Ruler Temple? Of course you have. Used to be a home of the Emperor's Blades. Now it's all ruins and overgrowth. Sorry end for a glorious bastion of the Empire."
"Cheydinhal's overflowing. Aftermath of the Red Year."
"Ever been to Sutch? Should consider it. I hear it's absolutely picturesque. Want to head there myself, but no time, running the View and all."
"Been to Bruma's Synod Conclave? Useless quacks, the lot of them. Well, Elinitus [sic] is a nice guy, at least. I mean the organization. They refuse to lift a finger for anyone who isn't a high-ranking member."

Conversations[edit]

Stantus and Hjotra can be found alternatively arguing or keeping track of business:

Stantus: "Hjotra, did you change the linens like I asked?"
Hjotra: "Of course I changed the linens. Don't you trust me, Stantus?"
Stantus: "Why do you say that?"
Hjotra: "Today it was the linens, yesterday it was the bath. It feels like you don't trust me."
Stantus: "I... I'm sorry, love. The inn has just been so busy lately, and the stress is getting to me. I didn't mean to take it out on you."
Hjotra: "You should take it as a compliment, Stantus. The Jerall View is busy because of our hard work. "
Stantus: "Yes, you're right. One of these days, though, I'd like to take a vacation. To the Highlands, perhaps. Or maybe High Rock."
Hjotra: "I could tolerate High Rock."

Hjotra: "Hey, I was just looking down in the cellar. We're out of Greenwood Mead still, it looks like. We've been out for a week now. What's going on?"
Stantus: "I wrote the order up ages ago, but I can't track down our courier. As soon as we get someone to deliver it, the mead should start flowing again."
Hjotra: "I see. Well, let's hope the courier turns up sooner rather than later."

If Gryfard Peton is in the inn, you may also witness him and Stantus chatting:

Gryfard: "Evening, Stantus."
Stantus: "Hey, Gryfard. How's business been?"
Gryfard: "At the stall? Slow as usual. Sometimes I think I wasn't cut out for this whole "clothes-selling" business."
Stantus: "Sorry to hear that... want a drink?"
Gryfard: "Drown my sorrows in drink? Heh, absolutely, please, old friend. I've been saving up, feel like splashing out. How about some Surilie Brothers?"
Stantus: "Coming right up."
