Gryfard Peton

Gryfard Peton, a Breton pawnbroker, is a tailor selling his clothes and jewelry from a stall in the Bruma market.

After waking up at 7am, Gryfard eats a quick breakfast in his house and then heads off to his market stall at 8am. For the next twelve hours he will offer his services, buying and selling clothing and jewelry. Once his shift is over, he heads to the Jerall View Inn for some food and drink until midnight, when he will head home and go straight to bed.

Gryfard does not seem cut out for buying and selling, as his poor sales pitches reveal: "Oh, uh, greetings, customer! Would you like to buy some new apparel?", "You look like you could use some new clothes. I mean, not that what you're wearing looks bad!", "Everything you see here is for sale...well, except for the actual stall. I, uh, kinda need that.", "Are you interested in buying some new, uh, clothing?", "Quite chilly out today, isn't it? Then again, every day in Bruma is chilly..." and "The best clothing High Rock has to offer, right here...oh, sorry, I'm not actually open. Just practicing my sales pitch."

Asking how business fares will net you: "Alright, I suppose. My sales pitch isn't very good, I know, but I still get a fair few customers. Everyone need something to wear, I guess." If you notice his nervousness, he admits: "You can tell, huh? Yeah, I'm not exactly the best salesman. Don't exactly like being one either. Don't worry though, I'm a much better tailor than I am a merchant."

If you ask why he is at his stall, he explains: "You know, I always thought about doing something else. Becoming an adventurer or whatnot. It's just...well, I'm just not cut out for that kind of lifestyle. As my good old ma always said, "Gryfard, my worthless, good-for-nothing son, you got to do something with your life!" "And since you seem to be better at sewing than spellcasting, you had best become a clothing merchant." So here I am. Yes, she's a lovely woman, my mother. A powerful mage, too. If you see her around these parts, though, you warn me right away. She's the reason I left High Rock."

As befits a tailor, Gryfard wears expensive Colovian fine clothes, fine boots and a random ring. He is armed with a Third Era iron sword and also carries the key to his house, two philters of glibness and a random selection of gold, lockpicks, gems, jewelry, food and drink.

At his market stall you will find on display some Cyrodiilic merchant clothes, a gold and ruby circlet and silver and moonstone circlet. Underneath the stall is an unlocked safe.

Bugs[edit]

  • Gryfard was meant to have an exchange with Harthir, but the two will never cross paths:
Harthir: "Eight blessings upon you, tradesman. Priest Neremus sent me to retrieve some robes for the Chapel."
Gryfard: "Huh? Oh - right! he spoke to me earlier. Let me look... ...You know, I always thought priests wove their own robes. Humility and all that. What happened?"
Harthir: "I do not understand, good sir. We have always purchased our clothing from local tradesmen, to please Zenithar. Are you accusing us of impiety?"
Gryfard: "No, of course not! I was just...oh, nevermind. I'm sorry. Here...here is your order, sir."
Harthir: "...I thank you." ?

Conversations[edit]

While in Bruma, you may overhear Gryfard conversing with Stantus Faleria or Felki Silver-Plow:

Gryfard: "Excuse me, ma'am! Would you - would you - oh, by Mara..."
Felki: "No, no, don't stop. Try again."
Gryfard: "Uh, okay...would, uh, you like some-"
Felki: "Louder! More confident!"
Gryfard: "Would you like to buy a new petticoat, ma'am? Or perhaps a nice, fur-lined cloak? I have a wide variety of clothing, right here!"
Felki: "That's it! You have to be confident, young man. Confidence is key. Now, I'd like to buy that dress right there..."
Gryfard: "Oh? Oh! Of course. Here you go, and...thank you."
Felki: "Of course. Divines watch over you, child."
Gryfard: "Evening, Stantus."
Stantus: "Hey, Gryfard. How's business been?"
Gryfard: "At the stall? Slow as usual. Sometimes I think I wasn't cut out for this whole "clothes-selling" business."
Stantus: "Sorry to hear that... want a drink?"
Gryfard: "Drown my sorrows in drink? Heh, absolutely, please, old friend. I've been saving up, feel like splashing out. How about some Surilie Brothers?"
Stantus: "Coming right up."
