Author, Title, & Description[edit]

This has been annoying me for a while: occasionally, these parameters don't transclude properly. I see this all the time, but the latest example is Lore:Malyn Varen's Grimoire. The title, author, and description doesn't transclude to Skyrim:Malyn Varen's Grimoire, They have to be re-entered on that page, otherwise they won't appear. And the description and author currently don't appear at Lore:Books M. Noincludes don't seem to play a factor. It seems entirely random to me; sometimes these parameters transclude properly, sometimes they don't. So ... WTF? Do they have to be inputted in a certain order or something? What am I doing wrong? Check again - these book templates seem to be very slow to actually appear due to caching issues. It makes editing them a real pain as I'm discovering. Changes you do might not show up for several minutes, so you think you did it wrong. Very annoying. TheRealLurlock (talk) 03:17, 18 October 2012 (GMT)
All right, thanks, I'll check back on it tomorrow. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 03:19, 18 October 2012 (GMT)
It's working now, thanks. I'll be more patient in the future. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 16:19, 18 October 2012 (GMT)

Mod books in Lore section[edit]

I am trying to update the Books added by Tamriel Rebuilt, which includes adding them to the Lore section. The issue is that these books cannot be linked to their respective books in the Morrowind: Tes3Mod: Tamriel Rebuilt: Items: Books: section.

What I want is to have Tamriel Rebuilt show up in the Seen in listing (For modder-written books). The source code works for base games, for example: MW=yes will make Morrowind show in the list, SR=yes will do that for Skyrim, but TR3=yes won't do that for Tamriel Rebuilt. Is there a way to get this fixed? Klep (talk) 15:03, 9 December 2014 (GMT+1)

There's nothing built-in that'll allow you to do it at the moment, but it's not a terribly difficult thing to add. My only real question is whether we want to support mods in this template or not. I think it probably makes sense to do so for those that we have as part of our pseudo-namespaces, like TR3 and TR4. Barring any strong comments against in the next few hours, I'll look at it later today and add the necessary code. Robin Hood  (talk) 15:43, 9 December 2014 (GMT)
Since TR3/4/5 etc. is all user-generated material and not from Bethesda, I'd be against adding mod books into the lore namespace. It's just not canon. •WoahBro►talk 16:18, 9 December 2014 (GMT)
(edit conflict) Do we want mod books in the Lorespace at all though? A couple of the Lore guidelines state officially approved TES media and OOG that has not been written by a game developer in general does not belong in UESP articles. Whether we include TR3 and other mod content at all in Lore I think would be a subject for community-wide discussion that cannot be determined here. --Enodoc (talk) 16:24, 9 December 2014 (GMT)
I have been reading and writing descriptions for all the current TR3 books and wish to create an updated list (200+ entries). The tabled Books listing for Morrowind is based on titles that are included in the Lorespace. In order to make a similar listing of TR3 books, they would need to be in the Lorespace as well, or (as it seems I have iniciated a discussion about whether mod books should be allowed in Lorespace at all) a way to make a listing of TR3 books similar to the original Morrowind listing without having the books in Lorespace. In my opinion though, adding books from big mods such as TR3, which are written with great caution and extremely well controled on quality and Lore-compatibility, should be no issue. Klep (talk) 16:46, 9 December 2014 (GMT)
I don't see that there's any room for debate here. The Lore space only hosts things that are officially created or authorized by Zenimax/Bethesda themselves. No matter how well-written or 'lore friendly' mod content is, it's still completely user-created and has absolutely no bearing on anything outside the mod itself. I don't have any problem with updating the template to support other namespaces, but putting mod books into Lore is a no-go. -- Hargrimm(T) 17:05, 9 December 2014 (GMT)
I respect that, and it would actually save me a lot of work. What I would like to see is an easy way to create a listing of TR3 books similar to the original Morrowind books listing, which would take the icon, value, author and description from the books' corresponding individual pages without having to list it all manually. Would this be possible? Apologies for asking so much, I do very much appreciate the help. Klep (talk) 18:16, 9 December 2014 (GMT)
Would it still be possible to have the code allow to add Tamriel Rebuilt to be mentioned in the Seen in part in Lore books that also appear in TR3? Klep (talk) 19:03, 9 December 2014 (GMT)
The book listing didn't need any changes to template code, just changing the page itself. I'll wait for others to comment on the "Seen In" request, but I suspect I know what people will say. I wasn't thinking clearly about the ramifications this morning, having just gotten up. :) Robin Hood  (talk) 19:44, 9 December 2014 (GMT)

() Like the others, I would oppose putting them in lorespace. Honestly, there is so much other work that the TR3 namespace needs, I feel efforts should focus more on completely adding the content to the wiki rather than aesthetically pleasing things like this. The change to the Books page in the TR3 namespace is no problem and simply requires the use of the template over the current method, but anything about adding it to lore simply isn't going to happen given our strict guidelines. Thank you all for the great feedback. I'm new to both TR3 and Wiki-editing, but trying my best to contribute. Please do correct my when I'm wrong, I take criticism constructively. I have made an updated spreadsheet of all TR3 books and written descriptions for them, so I will be working on adding and editing (and deleting a few removed) TR3 books on the UESPWiki pages in order to create an up to date listing on here. I see there's now a tabled listing on the TR3 book page, but after editing some of the book pages by adding descriptions and icons I see that most of the information does not get updated in the table. I thought it might take some time, but a day later things are the same so I'm guessing it's something template related, of which I lack knowledge. Could anyone help me out with this? Klep (talk) 02:00, 11 December 2014 (GMT)
It's more than likely a caching issue and the page(s) just need to be purged. This can be done by going into your user preferences and finding something somewhere (so specific, sorry :p) that gives you a button to purge a page, or it can be done manually by making a null edit (clicking edit and saving without making any changes). And we appreciate the attention you're giving to TR3! I simply don't have the time anymore to play, so it's great to see someone giving the namespace some TLC. •WoahBro►talk 02:06, 11 December 2014 (GMT)
Just to give the specifics, the two that are in your preferences are under the "Gadgets" tab: one that adds a UTC clock (which you can also click on to purge the current page) and a second that only adds a purge button. Robin Hood  (talk) 02:50, 11 December 2014 (GMT)
Thank's gents. While we're at it, I see that Morrowind books with several volumes are listed under a "parent" book page which shows the content of all volumes, with the possibility to go to pages of each seperate volume. I would like to do the TR3 listing in the same manner, but this does not have top prioroty for me at the moment. But, before I screw up the good manners of etiquette I would like to know if this is part of some etiquette. Klep (talk) 22:57, 12 December 2014 (GMT)
