Warning[edit]

Hi, after being on the UESP for about 10 minutes I am told I have new messages, about my being warned and blocked. I haven't edited anything so I would like an explanation. - 83.100.186.83 20:11, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

Basically, I'm guessing that you read a warning message intended for someone else, either because you are using a shared IP address or because of an ongoing glitch we're experiencing. The IP address that you're currently logged in as has never been given any warnings. While I'm sorry for any misunderstanding, I can't do anything to address the problem unless you give me more details -- such as the exact page where you saw the message that you had been warned and blocked. --NepheleTalk 22:59, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

New IRC channel[edit]

In case you're around, I've created #uesptech on ChatSpike for those of us who need to discuss byte offsets, field names and other gibberish without annoying the regulars. Anyone's welcome but I thought I ought to point it out to you specifically since I know you're going to be busy on this. rpeh •TCE 18:29, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

You just used Unrelenting Force on a page...[edit]

You recently drastically changed the Skyrim Settlements page, taking several locations off the list, saying that you took places off that were never going to make it on the list. Why did you do that? Isn't it the point of the Skyrim wiki to have every piece of information possible? If you look at the Oblivion Settlements page, it has all settlements broken down into villages, farms, and isolated houses. I don't see why the Skyrim Settlements page would not be laid out the same way... Willman

I just went through and re-categorized every place in the game (not to mention created a few hundred new place pages). Although I still need to tweak the categorization There are far more farms and isolated buildings in Skyrim than there were in Oblivion. For example, these are lists of the farms and the isolated buildings. So having all of them listed under Settlements isn't going to make much sense for Skyrim. Within the next day or so I'll be creating all of the place subpages -- lists of all the places in the game, organized by type. Every place will end up appearing on one of those pages. --NepheleTalk 14:37, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Strange Page created by Bot[edit]

Not that important, but Sky Summary in the main namespace probably shouldn't be there. --Alfwyn 12:37, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing it out, although I don't really know how it got created. My best guess is that it was bizarreness after I thought I'd stopped the bot, and started to edit its input files, then realized the bot was still running. It probably pulled in some corrupt version of the input data. The side effects of only being able to run this stuff late at night.... --NepheleTalk 06:50, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

Bug Template Suggestion[edit]

Hey Nephele. We get more and more bug entries on the pages, and I just added the bug template to one of them, so we can get it categorized. That made me think, though – is it possible to tweak the template so we can get an “Unconfirmed Bugs”-category, instead of them being added to “Outstanding Bugs”? I have already added three vn-tags to unconfirmed bugs (in an attempt to avoid a bug-cleanup-project similar to OB), and it seems a bit overkill if we could get them all under one roof. --Krusty 08:21, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

I can look at it tomorrow, but right now I'm just trying to get a bunch of bot-related stuff done before going to bed. --NepheleTalk 08:23, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
I think this is important, so I'll just elaborate a bit, especially because I can hardly access the Wiki when you're awake. I suggest a {{Bug|(desc)|vn}} template for unconfirmed bugs, along with the normal {{Bug|(desc)}} for confirmed bugs and a {{Bug|....|UOP}} for bugs fixed by the... UOP, or whatever it will be called. This will create three Categories and will make it much easier to sort, especially for Kivan later on. --Krusty 07:43, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
Now that the weekend's over, I'm making some template changes, and took care of this one, too. One little tweak that I made for the sake of my convenience was that you have to say vn=1 instead of just vn. In other words, {{Bug|(desc)|vn=1}}. --NepheleTalk 16:34, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Place_Summary/Skyrim problem[edit]

Pages like Skyrim:Winterhold now show a {{{oreHeader}}} line in the table. Experimenting a bit it looks like the cleantable stuff fails to hide the last header with "colspan=2", that is adding a random other such header makes the oreHeader disappear and the other appear instead. An off-by-one problem in the cleantable implementation or some other thing I'm missing here? --Alfwyn 00:03, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Aha, that's why you've been experimenting with the Place Summary template! Now that you describe the problem I'm pretty sure it's a bug in cleantable that RobinHood previously pointed out (perhaps near the top of my talk page... if not in an archive), but I never got around to diagnosing. For now, I'll see whether applying the same temporary fix that RobinHood used last time around takes care of it. Thanks for pointing it out. --NepheleTalk 00:13, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
Well, no luck on my hoped-for quick fix. So instead I just hid the text for now -- the box is still showing up, but without any more strange text. At some point I'd like to find a proper fix, but it's not top on the priority list right now unfortunately. --NepheleTalk 00:20, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
A variation of the fix seems to work in this case. --Alfwyn 12:21, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Duplicate pages?[edit]

It seems we have both a page for Forelhost and for Forelhost Stronghold. Should they be merge:d, or one deleted? --QuillanTalk 18:41, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

They probably need to be merged, and Forelhost Stronghold turned into a redirect. It's a result of trying to auto-create the pages -- and scripts coming out with different guesses as to what the primary place name is. In this case, for example, there's no cell named "Forelhost", just a map marker. --NepheleTalk 18:52, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Forelhost and Forelhost Stronghold?[edit]

Take a look at these two articles. Skyrim:Forelhost and Skyrim:Forelhost Stronghold. I'm fairly positive these articles are detailing the same place (with one being much more developed). Or maybe something else, I don't know. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 02:47, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Yes, they're the same place. There's a handful of cases like this that I need to dig out and clean up. It's basically just a problem caused by places having multiple names, and deciding which one should be the "official" page. RoBoT created pages based on all the names used for map marker icons. NepheleBot then tried to fill in missing places, and on the first run used the cell name as the primary name. I've since made tweaks to NepheleBot to try to be more in line with the pages RoBoT created, but the bot can't go back and fix the cases that it did wrong the first time. The upshot is that a pages such as Forelhost Stronghold needs to be turned into a redirect to Forelhost. In this particular case, one easy way to confirm that they're the same place is that both have the same location codes listed. There are probably other cases out there, though, where it may be harder to know for sure whether or not they're the same. --NepheleTalk 04:14, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

You removed the bug I added.[edit]

I added a bug that I had come across to The Path of Dawn page, but you removed it. How come?

--Liamcullins

As I said in my edit summary, it's a one-off glitch. By your own description, it is not a reproducible problem. See the introduction to Oblivion:Glitches for the criteria that must be met before adding something to the site, in particular:
It must be reproducible. If the problem does not recur after reloading a save game, then the problem is not a reproducible glitch. If the problem is specific to a single save game, and does not happen to anyone else, it is not a reproducible glitch. If there is any chance the problem is caused by a bad sector on your hard drive, defective computer memory, or a power surge then it is not a glitch.
Furthermore, it's really just another example of the Spasm Glitch, which can happen nearly anywhere in the game. If we added one-paragraph notes at every possible instance where spasm glitches had been observed, the site would be completely unusable. --NepheleTalk 06:35, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Please stop[edit]

Getting involved in the discussion is what you should have done rather than getting involved with reverting. If you expect people to follow your advice, you may just want to listen to it yourself. elliot (talk) 06:59, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

I've been trying to participate in the discussion, but keep getting edit-conflicted out of it. So please stop trying to distract from the central issue here, which is your mass-reverting bordering on edit warring, without having even looked at the pre-existing discussion. --NepheleTalk 07:06, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
No, the central issue is your reverting without discussion. Had you shown a prior effort, then maybe it wouldn't have looked so... petulant. elliot (talk) 07:17, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
That snidely ad hominem remark regarding me will not be tolerated, Nephele. elliot (talk) 07:34, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Miscelllaneous Quests[edit]

So I see that you've completely redone and added a lot to the Objectives (now Miscellaneous Quests) page, which is great, but you've totally overwritten the previous stuff. You implied in the edit summary that you would incorporate the old page info to the new, but I don't see any of it, particularly what I wrote. Not that I'm angry, but did none of my stuff make the cut? Will it ever see the light of day again? :C--Dalsio 07:25, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Oh wait, I just saw the Radiant page, so at least that still exists. I guess that's good. >.> --Dalsio 07:30, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
I moved all of the information about individual quests onto those quest pages, and checked that every quest (except one unknown one) previously listed on the page was still present in the final version of the page. The information on Radiant Quests has been moved to SR:Radiant. If there's any information that I overloooked, please add it back to the page, but I did spend several hours trying to make sure that nothing was lost in the process. --NepheleTalk 07:31, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Essential NPCs[edit]

I spotted a request on the Skyrim:People talk page for information on Essential NPCs, I then spotted Skyrim:Essential NPCs. My question is - Is this something a Bot could do? Or something that needs filling in by hand? I was going to start doing it in My Sandbox but thought about it. If, I was to do it, I presume this style would be used? --Kiz ·•· Talk ·•· Contribs ·•· Mail ·•· 17:36, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

First, for anyone who wants info right now, there is already a category at Category:Skyrim-Essential_NPCs, that is created from bot data.
I could pretty easily create a set of tables comparable to Oblivion:Essential NPCs, with a blank third column -- the third column would then need to be filled in by hand. Before doing that, though, it would be good to get confirmation that the category actually contains a valid list of essential NPCs. --NepheleTalk 18:04, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
I was going to format that category, and then let people remove them once i've launched it. Or let people do it in my Sandbox. It would take a while for me to do it alone (the checking not formatting) --Kiz ·•· Talk ·•· Contribs ·•· Mail ·•· 18:29, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

Suggestion for new page[edit]

Hi, do you think, on the main page, a page should be made called "starting out" or something like that to give new players hints and tips about, well...starting out. The reason is that there are a lot of new players coming to skyrim who have no experience with previous elder scrolls games.RIM 22:55, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

It should probably be named "First Time Players" for consistency with Oblivion:First Time Players. --NepheleTalk 23:00, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, I never saw that page:)If nobody has any objections I'll start it now.RIM 23:01, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

Paralyze[edit]

Nice job with paralyze page. I am especially thankful for the ingredient listing.  :) Ascaffo 02:32, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

Actually, I can't really take credit for the ingredient listing on that page, since it had been there before my edit. Nevertheless, I'm glad that people are finding the revamped effect pages useful :) --NepheleTalk

New Page Requests[edit]

I saw your name in the history of the page as one of the people answering requests, so I thought I'd ask you directly. Could you please take a look at my request at UESPWiki:New Page Requests#Homes. Haoleboi69 05:59, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Blood on the Ice?[edit]

Hey Neph! I was just trying to sort out the mess that is our current Blood on the Ice page, and – while the quest is as bugged as can be – there seems to be something wrong with the Journal Entries on the page. Incidentally, Blood on the Ice consists of two “separate” quests with the same name and the current journal only lists the second part of the quest, e.g. the part where it becomes apparent you framed the wrong guy. Is it possible that the quest has two separate IDs? It has two separate entries in your quest journal in-game, so that is why I’m asking. If you could take a quick look, I’d be most grateful. ☺--Krusty 11:05, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Yep, there are separate quest stages for MS11 and MS11b, so I've added the missing MS11 ones. --NepheleTalk 16:56, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! I've made saves all over the quest, so I'll give it a cleanup starting now - just needed to know exactly what was "supposed" to happen. --Krusty 17:01, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Muffle test data[edit]

Your requested Muffle test methodology / data is now available on the talk page. Further testing will be appreciated though. Jimhsu 21:22, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the interesting info! --NepheleTalk 16:57, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Weapons[edit]

Since you re-organizing the Weapons page and I didn't know exactly what you had done, i'd to point you towards this edit, i've left it unpatrolled and untouched. --Kiz ·•· Talk ·•· Contribs ·•· Mail ·•· 20:11, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Sorry[edit]

I am sorry for my improper behavior "if you were aware of it". I didn't mean the names I called you. I was in a miserable mood and the clean-up marker you made for Skyrim: Creatures I didn't approve of. I really did't mean it. You are awesome and a great contributor to the site. By far more then I am. You didn't deserve the slander. Again sorry Nephele.  :( Ascaffo 00:46, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
