Surol Volayn

Surol Volayn is a Dark Elf and the adopted daughter of the noble Arenim family. She can be found outside the family manor in Akamora. While much loved by her foster parents, Surol has a reputation for being somewhat eccentric, if inoffensive:

"The young mistress is like a little kitten who's dropped head first into a barrel of sugar. But the young mistress has always been kind to %Name, so you will not catch %Name saying bad things about her." - Ahhazi

According to Surol's adoptive mother, Llavane Arenim, Surol was found alone in the mountains as a child, with her parents having been dismembered by some unknown creature. Surol has since frequently gone for walks in these mountains.

The Dark Elf is encountered on a number of occasions during the Fighters Guild questline, although her dialogue is often cryptic, hinting at Akamora's ancient past, and expressing antipathy to the Guild's presence in town. Her true role is revealed during Caught in a Web, where she is reported missing and the Arenims commission you to find her. Your investigation takes you to Shambalu in the fabled Valley of Mephala, where Surol reveals her role as an agent of the Daedra Prince, Mephala, the Webspinner.

Surol's disappearance proves to have been a trap meant to ensnare you, but in the event that you defeat the assaulting Daedra, Surol will instead comment upon your actions in previous quests. She approves of sparing Olmu Llendu in No Sin Goes Unpunished, and of saving the unwilling thralls of the Molag Bal worshiping vampire Akavorioc in the quest of the same name. If you did both, Surol will reward you with the Daedric Hand of Ambidexterity, but true to her idol, will still try to lure you to your death - accepting her offer of quick transport back to Akamora will see you teleported to the skies far above the city, as she chuckles at your gullibility.

You may alternatively choose to kill Surol or insist on returning her to town, in which case combat will ensue and the witch will need to be killed - an outcome which upsets all within Akamora if you admit to having a hand in it.
