Inconsistency[edit]

Citation: "like all vampires they will turn to dust if killed" - they don't, only ressurected corpses do. — Unsigned comment by 213.155.255.148 (talk) at 09:17 on 21 November 2011

vampires turn to dust if killed which is written in the lore, this is why you find vampire dust on them. the game mechanics prevent the vampires from actually and visually turning to dust but that is what is supposedly happening. they turn to dust when they die but in the games they are unable to make the character models actually turn to dust though i must say that bethesda could have used the same program for turning resurrected corpse to dust animation for the vampire models.
Mr Scryer 86.186.126.162 21:26, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
So, you just said in this game vampires bodies don't turn to dust. — Unsigned comment by 213.155.255.148 (talk) at 14:23 on 24 November 2011
in game no, in nature and lore yes, vampires turn to dust when killed but not visually in the game but you find vampire dust on them so they are supposed to be just dust on the floor with empty clothes and armour and so on. Mr Scryer86.186.126.162 14:29, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
They COULD use the same thing they did for lightning magics if they really wanted to push that idea but i guess we'll find out one way or another in future updates :P I'm fairly sure a modder would do it if they really wanted to -yoo203 — Unsigned comment by 218.48.23.46 (talk) at 13:53 on 15 February 2012

Vampires also located in Potema's Catacombs[edit]

Staring at the back of a Volkihar Vampire in Potema's Catacombs. Vampires can also be random spawned in the world during the night. 24.156.216.144 19:45, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Yeah definitely. I've come across two or three in The Rift at night, in the more heavily forested areas. They're pretty rare but you can come across them. --62.30.162.142 08:26, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

Console Command for Vampire and turning NPCs into Vampires[edit]

You can turn yourself into a vampire by typing in:

player.setrace nordracevampire
player.setrace argonianracevampire
player.setrace khajiitracevampire
player.setrace woodelfracevampire
etc...

player.setrace (type in your race)racevampire

NPCs Into Vampires:

Click on the NPC you want to turn into a vampire and type in setrace (type in desired race)racevampire

Remember 2 important things: 1. Click on the NPC first to get their "reference ID" and 2. type in setrace, not player.setrace.

NPCs can be cured at any time by typing in setrace (type in desired race). — Unsigned comment by 99.136.224.214 (talk) at 04:02 on 29 November 2011

Vampire in Riften?[edit]

When i entered Riften for the first time, a vampire ran out from behind me and killed a guy called Aerin.

Bug or is this part of something?- Azurome 03:20, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

could be a random encounter as there is a few that includes vampires. 86.179.18.163 15:32, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
Having the Dawnguard plug-in will cause vampires to frequently attack cities at night. The guards usually deal with them fairly quickly but sometimes they manage to kill some of the nonessential NPC's. 58.7.187.160 11:23, 21 May 2013 (GMT)
If you read the dates of the contributions here, you will see it was well before Dawnguard was published, so I guess it had nothing to do with that. —MortenOSlash (talk) 19:20, 21 May 2013 (GMT)
To possibly answer this mystery many years later, there is a world interaction point just east of Riften's north gate. I've noticed that one frequently spawns vampire encounters. Azurome likely aggro'd a vampire that spawned there but didn't notice before entering the city. Olaus (talk) 03:33, 26 June 2021 (UTC)

Friendly Vampire + Thrall?![edit]

I was just South West of Alftand travelling North and I came across a non-hostile although also not very talkative Volkihar Vampire and his female thrall standing around on the mountain-side doing not much of anything. Neither did anything and I decided rather than leave them to jump the next wanderer to pass, I'd wipe them out. Still, I'd never encountered a friendly vampire before. The Source 15:57, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

Did I miss Volkihar?[edit]

I'm looking for a Valkihar to thrall but whenever I encounter Vampires it's a bunch of lower level vampires and the boss is a Master Valkihar. I understand the boss will always be the highest level possible so have I basically missed the window to run into Valkihar vampires? 108.28.34.65 00:15, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

you will encounter Volkihar Vampires when you over level 30, they are more common at level 50.86.147.157.189 22:36, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
Looks like I missed them. I'm level 50 and all the caves that will respawn are a bunch of Mistwalkers or whatever and a Master Volkihar Vampire. 108.28.34.65 22:51, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
Also keep in mind that most caves or dungeons when visited at lower levels will usually respawn the level of enemy from your first visit when you re-visit the location after it has respawned. So, if you clear out Broken Fang Cave (in Whiterun hold) at level 20, the vampires in that cave will probably be low leveled vampires, even if you are at level 60 when you re-visit the location. --Blackpete (talk) 00:01, 21 October 2013 (GMT)

Spawn locations for Volkihar?[edit]

Apparently you mainly meet regular Volkihar in random encounteers, either attacking you directly or fighting Vigilants or werewolves. Anyone know if there are any fixed locations any of these encounters will happen at or where they're likely to spawn. — Unsigned comment by 108.28.34.65 (talk) at 17:59 on 3 February 2012

I don't know if it's a fixed location but I ran into one a little south-east of the midpoint of a line between Druadach Redoubt and Deepwood Redoubt. 174.6.51.17 15:03, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
There are no definite fixed locations to encounter Volkihar Vampires. Like you said, they will occasionally appear in random world encounters. They are most likely to appear at high player character levels like 50 or above. --Blackpete (talk) 00:04, 21 October 2013 (GMT)

Inconsistency with lore[edit]

Could it be that Movarth is the cause of Skyrim vampires having Cyrodiilic vampires' ability? Since he got infected by that priest as described in Immortal Blood. --AtrumVentus 23:49, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

No because he has the volkihar look, i think its another error to be honest. 81.151.174.145 23:16, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
Considering the fact Immortal Blood was written by a vampire there was never any reason to believe its contents to begin with. — Unsigned comment by 184.97.239.110 (talk) at 08:00 on June 3, 2012
Why should we believe vampires to be liars? And where in Immortal Blood does it say that Cyrodilic vampires are unique in their traits? Vely►Talk►Email 15:38, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Observation[edit]

In this article, it states that one can contract Sanguinare Vampiris by being struck by a vampire. In the Vampirism article, it states that you can only contract it from the Vampire Drain spell immediately after saying that there are "many ways to contract the disease, all of them involve encountering hostile vampires and allowing them to attack you." Obviously that article and this one don't match up and so should be edited for consistency's sake. Firstly, someone needs to confirm that the disease can't be contracted through any other means than having Vampire Drain cast on you, which would be easiest through game data, I imagine, but I have no access to that as a console player. Eximago 16:31, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

I don't see how the articles are inconsistent. This article states that the player can become infected if struck by a vampire. The other article goes into a bit more detail, explaining that the player has to be hit with the "Vampiric Drain" spell. For some reason, I can't seem to find which attacks have a chance of infecting the player with Sanguinare Vampiris anywhere in the game data. Can someone look into this? • JATalk 16:55, 31 May 2012 (UTC)
Well, being "struck" would suggest a physical attack, at least as I interpret it. I believe this can be confusing especially since melee hits had a chance of giving the player Porphyric Hemophilia in previous games. Perhaps the author of that bit didn't intend to mean melee attacks, but I believe being more specific could be necessary given that fact. And, again, in the Vampirism article, it states that there are many ways to contract it, but contradicts itself. Eximago 17:03, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

Strength of Drain Spells[edit]

I have noticed someone added images and a individual section for each vampire, which is great, but I believe there is some inacurracy about the strength of their life drain spells, I edited both the volkihar vamp and volkihar master vamp to have 40, and I see they have been edited to 20? When I view my active effects, whilst being attacked by one of these I see 22 per second (for magicka stamina and health), and I have 25% magic resist from breton blood + 20% from alteration perks, so the damage per second should be 40 (22=40*(1-.25-.2)). I am playing on master difficulty, I am asking if the person doing the editing has accounted for magical resistance, or is playing on a lower difficulty. — Unsigned comment by 77.99.185.89 (talk) at 19:16 on 25 June 2012

I added those with the numbers from the CSList, this is the Drain Life a master vampire uses — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 19:22, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

Vampire unarmed damage[edit]

Does the vampire touch power exist? it supposedly enhances unarmed damage but it seems only npc vampires have it and I am actually not sure of that. Is it real? Mr.Scryer. 19:27, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

Yes, I can confirm it is real, and you can test this yourself, if you use dead thrall (or the ritual stone) on a vampire, after taking their weapon away, you can attack them till they become aggresive, and you'll find their fists do far more damage than other NPCs (e.g in a brawl). — Unsigned comment by 77.99.185.89 (talk) at 06:43 on 17 July 2012

Vampire gender - only females described[edit]

I quote the current text: "All generic Vampires are female; only boss-level Vampires are male. An exception to this is the random encounter of a vampire and their thrall, where non-master vampires can be male." Even though these exceptions are found only in random encounters, these encounters are not that rare. I would think it natural that the UESP Wiki should describe the free land wandering specimens with the same thoroughness as the dungeon dwelling female counterparts has been. --MortenOSlash 19:55, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

what about Babette?[edit]

Its true that Dawnguard changed the eye color of vampires but i noticed that hers are the same as before 174.254.1.33 04:57, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

Yes it is true, some vampire had normal eyes in the vanilla version instead of vampire ones (sybille stentor, alva, hern) but now they have glowing vampire eyes but there is a bug with nords and high elves, they just get glowing versions of the old vampire eyes and npcs do not have the bat-like face. 217.137.157.197 14:30, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

Volkihar Vampire minimum encounter level wrong?[edit]

On the page it states, "Can be encountered starting at level 42." However, one of the commentators above says level 30, and I definitely ran into my first one in the wilds when I was level 33. Correction needed? 174.6.51.17 15:10, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

It's hard to tell where the user who made the comment about encountering them above level 30 got their information from, since they didn't provide details. Do you have Dawnguard? It's probable that that's why there's a discrepancy in what you're experiencing and what's stated on the page. I believe the article information is based on game-data from before Dawnguard came out. Dawnguard has changed a lot of aspects of vampires and vampirism, including when and where the different types are encountered, so the page needs to be updated to reflect the changes. I can say for sure from looking at CSList that most (if not all) of the leveled lists for vampires are modified after Dawnguard is added, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to determine how those changes affect the information on the page. ABCface 17:28, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
The information on the page might also just be incorrect. I didn't quite understand the leveled lists from looking at CSList when originally writing the page, and I think someone changed them without comment. Checking the CK might clarify things. —Legoless 18:35, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
I just encountered one in the wild at level 38. It was most unpleasant! I was south of Riften heading to Lost Tongue Overlook. I do not have Dawnguard (yet). Bootstomp 00:19, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
I think it is a bug. I encountered a bandit marauder.... fresh out of Helgen. That's right I met one of the hardest npc bandits one can face at level 1. I turned the difficulty to novice during the fight but it was still a hard one. It is probably a bug.--Br3admax 00:31, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

Voice of the Sky makes enemy vampires friendly?[edit]

I could use some help verifying this. From what I can tell, normally hostile vampire NPCs, like the vampires that inhabit places like Pinemoon Cave, for example, become non-hostile to the player when Voice of the Sky is active on the player. They won't attack the player or followers, and interacting with them results in generic dialogue. I think this might be due to Dawnguard adding the "PreyFaction" faction to many/most/all of these vampire NPCs. If someone else can verify, this might be worth mentioning on the page as a bug, or an oversight, or unintended behavior, or something. 75.3.116.191 05:06, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

I can confirm the same effect. Just completed Awakening with totally passive Vamps, and Voice of the Sky in place. 86.30.201.11 08:01, 26 September 2012 (GMT)
Not sure this is related, but I just experienced a randy vamp in the wild and had no such effect in place. It did not attack me, but I did kill two of its pursuers. 108.175.88.68 00:22, 17 September 2014 (GMT)

Has the Dawnguard DLC Changed Random Vampire Encounters?[edit]

The character I'm currently playing is a Bosmer thief, at Level 15. Dawnguard is installed, and I have gotten the quest from Durak to report to Fort Dawnguard to join up, but haven't yet gone there.

Last night, right outside the Riften city wall, she came across a random encounter with two Vigilants of Stendarr fighting a vampire. The vampire easily killed the vigilants, then turned on my character with very little of its health gone. The vampire turned out to be a Vampire Nightstalker, and it was a very tough battle with a Level 15 character with no magic resistance. She made it through, but it was a near thing.

According to the main article, Vampire Nightstalkers are not supposed to appear until the PC is Level 28 - this vampire was also wearing the Vampire Armor introduced by Dawnguard. Has the Dawnguard DLC changed the leveled enemy lists for random encounters? If so, the article probably needs to be rewritten to reflect this - however, further verification by others who may have encountered this would be helpful first. Gator Country (talk) 06:02, 3 November 2012 (GMT)

Dawnguard has changed all the vampire encounters. The armour they wear has been modified, but the leveled list has only been modified to allow the new vampire types, the Nightstalkers should still not appear until level 28 by my reading of it. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 09:30, 3 November 2012 (GMT)
I'm going to consider it to be another bug then, I guess. After some further reading, it looks like other people are having similar issues (meeting high level enemies at very low character levels), and not just with the vampires. Maybe it's related to one of the later patches, and not Dawnguard. Gator Country (talk) 15:25, 3 November 2012 (GMT)

Volkihar Vampire at Level 31 (PS3)[edit]

Despite the article stating Level 42 being the starting point, I came across a Volkihar Vampire fighting two Vigilants of Stendarr at a Dragon Mound northeast of Gjukar's Monument and south of Morthal at the bend in the river. Are the vampires from that random encounter supposed to be stronger than normal or does the starting level need to be changed? 24.254.147.246 00:38, 28 November 2012 (GMT)

The random encounter lists have Vampire Nightstalkers appearing at level 28, Ancient Vampires at level 38, and Volkihar Vampires at level 48, so they shouldn't appear that early. They also go through 4-5 leveled lists to get to this point, so it may be a visual error, or a computing error, or the lists may not function as described. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 01:45, 28 November 2012 (GMT)
I'm not quite sure what you mean by visual error, but for more information it was a female Dunmer. And she had Orcish Armor, Orcish Boots, and an Elven Dagger on her. (On a slightly unrelated note, I seem to be unable to view this section unless I compare history or hit edit, does that just have to do with being an unregistered IP?) 24.254.147.246 03:54, 28 November 2012 (GMT)
To the last question: yes, it's a known issue the wiki has for users who are not signed in to have caching issues and see outdated versions of pages. It's quick, easy, and free to create an account, and quite convenient for resolving this issue and has other benefits. — ABCface 03:57, 28 November 2012 (GMT)
To the question, it might be a problem with the latest patch, on the ps3. I too have experienced this, but not with a vampire. Soon out of Helgen, I meet a Bandit Marauder, at level 1. It might be safe to say that the spawning has become glitched, but it will take more ps3ers to be sure.--Br3admax (talk) 04:01, 28 November 2012 (GMT)
Another thing to keep in mind is where exactly the encounters are. There are some locations in the game which have a "minimum level" higher than 1, so you can encounter enemies at higher levels than you normally would according to leveled lists. — ABCface 04:07, 28 November 2012 (GMT)
I experienced this as well northeast of Lost Tongue Overlook, on the Special Edition with the unofficial patch. I was level 33 and encountered a Volkihar Vampire, which had little difficulty dispatching and then reanimating the Vigilants, who then annihilated Marcurio and then me. Olaus (talk) 03:41, 26 June 2021 (UTC)

Male Vampire Random encounter[edit]

The article states that all Vampire Fledglings are female, but I encountered two male Vampire Fledglings and a resurrected wolf in a random encounter. Is it so that vampires can be male in random encounters or is this a one-time special thing? (PS3) --81.225.78.221 15:44, 30 December 2012 (GMT)

Goes for PC as well. I aired this question half a year ago, but did not receive any answers. (Look for "Vampire gender - only females described" above here.) I do not feel competent to try to revise the page myself, as it has grown so much it would need a lot of advanced work to do it, but it does not seem to ignite the inspiration for other to do anything either. —MortenOSlash (talk) 11:50, 31 December 2012 (GMT)
Okay then it's not just my system and I didn't noticed that, could have saved some space on the page but I don't feel competent for editing this page either, I suppose we have to wait and see. --81.225.78.221 14:29, 31 December 2012 (GMT)
The thing is that the vampires shown are only those in dungeons, who are always female except the dungeon bosses. That is no excuse for not listing male vampires, as those randomly encountered may vary. —MortenOSlash (talk) 15:03, 5 January 2013 (GMT)
I totally agree with you, at least a note stating that there are male non-bosses or named vampires would suffice. --81.225.78.221 20:03, 14 February 2013 (GMT)
I clarified this with the overhaul (or tried, anyway):
All generic vampires are female; only boss-level vampires are male. The only exception to this is the vampire that appears in the "Vampire Trick" world interaction: this vampire uses the same data as the generic vampires below, but is always male instead of female.
Hopefully that should do ;). eshetalk 20:10, 14 February 2013 (GMT)
Awesome, thank you for the work :) --81.225.78.221 20:15, 14 February 2013 (GMT)

Arch-Curate Vyrthur[edit]

Sun Damage[edit]

Not sure if this has been answered but if it hasnt I really dont know why not. Do hostile vampires get affected by sun damage? So can a hostile vampire be lured outside so that their stats dont regenerate and does Serena take sun damage?--82.46.168.98 22:53, 12 April 2013 (GMT)

vampie hood help[edit]

No, there is no known fix for this bug without mods. The Unofficial Skyrim Patch (for PC only) does fix this issue though. --Blackpete (talk) 10:17, 20 October 2013 (GMT)

Related quests: should WQA be listed?[edit]

Skyrim:The Wolf Queen Awakened has no mention of vampires in the quest dialogue; however the dungeon where most of the quest takes place is listed as a Vampire Lair, and there are a few vampires in it at fixed locations. Followers who have dialogue for vampire lairs will comment on it while they're there. --Morrolan (talk) 16:34, 26 September 2013 (GMT)

The occurrence of vampires there seems incidental. IMO, it depends on why we are listing related quests here. If it's to document which quests relate to vampires, then I'd say no. If it's to list quests where you encounter vampires, then I'd say yes. My gut says no. --Xyzzy Talk 15:29, 20 October 2013 (GMT)
I second Xyzzy, there's no real relation of the quest to vampires. Xolroc (talk) 15:31, 20 October 2013 (GMT)

Naked, Headless Vamps[edit]

After installing Dawnguard, I (obviously) encountered some vampires in Bloodlet Throne. These were naked, had no head, and had no animations. They just floated over the ground in the Vitruvian Man pose when moving. When killed, the bodies did nothing. They didn't fall to the floor and the ragdoll physics didn't activate. The bodies weren't able to be looted either. When I left and reentered the area, they were now lying on the floor, had heads, and could be looted, but were still naked. I know all vamps have their clothing replaced as part of Dawnguard but I accepted the Dark Ancestor quest from Dengir before installing it. I think it set up a specific setup for the quest then the location was altered by the DLC and that is why it glitched. Anybody else seen this? --Zuuk (talk) 01:18, 9 January 2014 (GMT)

It's happening again in Haemar's Shame. Is it because I activated the quest before installing the DLC? It isn't game breaking and it isn't every vamp in the worldspace, but it is immersion breaking. They don't even fight back... --Zuuk (talk) 06:17, 9 January 2014 (GMT)
Leaving the cell and reentering seems to solve the problem if the vamps are not dead (well, redead.) If they are, the head comes back but they are still naked. --Zuuk (talk) 07:46, 9 January 2014 (GMT)

Master Vampire lvl 23 inconsistency[edit]

I am playing a level 18 character and I met and enthralled a level 23 Vampire Master in the Broken Fang cave. This itself should not be possible accourding to this level list. Farther I observe my thrall using Ice Spike, which was not in the list. I edited this bit.— Unsigned comment by ‎178.203.96.148 (talk) at 19:25 on 22 August 2014

General dialogue vs. Trigger dialogue[edit]

In terms of combat dialogue, could someone separate generic lines that vampires use on any enemy and lines that they only use when they are fighting another vampire (such as potentially yourself)? MidbossVyers (talk) 01:50, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

Nightlord Vampires[edit]

I would just like to point out that there are actually three Nord Nightlord Vampires that spawn. This third one is xx00282a, and is the "template" in the CK, but is present in the spawn lists. Funnily enough, this is the exact same Nightlord Vampire that is used in the picture of the Nightlord on the page. Desterine (talk) 09:51, 22 September 2015 (UTC)

Vampire encounter not listed?[edit]

I encountered a vampire outside of Solitude, it looked like she came out of the water near the docks, and she then ran along the road you would take to get to the main gates. I figured she was running to attack the city and followed, but instead of going to Solitude, she turned the other way and ran towards Dragon Bridge. If I tried to interact with her, I got the message 'this person is busy'. Just before we got to Dragon Bridge, she veered off the road onto a rocky outcrop, yelled out 'Enough!', cast a spell and disappeared. I'm sure she just went invisible but I lost her and don't know what she did after that. Maybe that's just the end of one of the listed encounters, I don't know, but I couldn't figure out what she might've been involved in. 70.30.20.192 15:26, 3 December 2016 (UTC)

Sounds like a one off bug, that's just standard behaviour for fleeing combat. —Legoless (talk) 15:46, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
